Pilates/Resistance Bands

My husband was working out to Cathe the other day and the medium-resistance Firm pilates band that we use somehow snapped in half while doing those outer thigh work in GS Legs. Later that day, we went to Target and picked up a 3-pack of pilates bands of various tensions, thinking all pilates bands were standardized and they would be the same as what we had. When we got home and opened them, we were dismayed to discover that these new bands were only 4' long instead of the 6'+ that our Firm band was. Boo! :p

I thought maybe we could make due with the new bands, but I tried using them in Muscle Max today and they're just too short to use for most of the exercises (leg press anyone?). Does anyone have any advice on a good place to look for the 6'+ version of these? I'd really like to get a 3-pack of them so that we have various resistances to choose from.

Thanks!

Hi Judegirl,

The exact same thing just happened to me. My green band snapped, and I ordered the 3-pack Dynabands from Amazon--only to find out they were 3' long. So I gave them to my sister (who doesn't need to use them with a high step), and ordered some new ones directly from Fitness Wholesale. That was the company that Amazon went through. Their website is 'www.fwonline.com'. I ordered 2 green 6' Dynabands--so I'll have an extra--at $3.65 each, and one purple 6' at $4.10. I'm not sure how much the pink (light resistance) ones are. Fitness Wholesale had all 3 tensions of Dynabands in various lengths. I had to order online since I couldn't find any stores in my area that carried 6' Dynabands.

Meanwhile, I tied a knot in my old band and was able to make it through GS BSB and GS Legs--until the outer thigh portion where you lie on your back and open your legs. Then the band snapped in a different spot. Actually, I think that particular exercise is really hard on the band. I have an old Reebok tube-type band that I finished the workout with. I think I'll use that on that exercise from now on instead of the Dynaband. Maybe I can get the new one to last longer that way.

Hope this helps,

Wow, thanks Carol, that was SUPER helpful! I've never been to that website before. We'd been looking for 2.5 pound plates for our new barbell, and they had those too, so we were able to get everything we were looking for at one place. What a great website! I got two each of the green, purple, and silver (hopefully that one isn't TOO hard), so that we have extras in the future.

Great tip on using the resistance cord instead of the band for that one outer thigh exercise. I think we'll start doing that as well.

Thanks again! :)

I'm so glad that helped. I, too, ordered more than just the dynabands. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be visiting that site again in the future.;-) I'm curious about the silver band--please let me know how you like it.

Happy exercising,

Carol F:D

P.S. May I just say that I'm so impressed that your husband will do Cathe and that you guys can work out together. I think that is wonderful!
