Piggybacking on Pilates video question

I know this has been discussed before and I promise I searched for the answer but had no luck.

I was very intrigued by the thread about Pilates videos and want to start using some of your suggestions. How do you all incorporate them into your workout week?

I have been working out with Cathe for years; sometimes I follow rotations, sometimes I just alternate cardio and weights. Right now I am trying the Upper Body Bliss rotation from a few months ago.

I am very curious about where to insert these great Pilates videos ya'll are discussing.

I appreciate your input!

Hi Mikie!

I incorporate the pilates two different ways:

1. If I don't take a rest day during the week, I will take an active rest day. On that day I'll do the entire MTV Pilates Mix DVD which totals 6o min or the Ana Caban Pilates for Abs coupled w a coremax workout.

Or...

2. I'll do one pilates workout in place of traditional ab work once a week in my usual rotation.

Hope that helps...

i use it on a rest day from other activities or i will do in place of one of my morning yoga days. sometimes if time is an issue i will do it as part of my ab workout.

If you follow one of Debbie's Rotations (fitnessfreak366) you can add a full body Pilates workout on yoga days. Another way to add it...focus on a certain area of your body after doing weights by adding a short Pilates workout. For example, after I complete my regular workout on my legs with weights I like to add Pilates leg and glute work. I do mostly Pilates Reformer work, but this can easily be done with mat since many of the Pilates DVDs are broken down into a series of workouts for specific body areas (ie. 10 Minute Solution Pilates or Liz Gillies Progressive Pilates... people might find thse useful if they want to do very little pilates and only want to do ten minute "add ons" onto their regular weight workouts). Although Winsor Pilates is a longer workout to tack on to a very taxing weight workout, it can be very useful for this type of routine because it also individually addresses each body area.

I hope this gave you some ideas.

I do my Pilates about 3 times per week. I usually do them in the evening. I like how it stretches me out! Susan

I used to do two weighted ab workouts twice a week. I've replaced one of those workouts with pilates.

So now I have what I call a "core day." Oce a week in the morning before work I'll do a kickboxing workout & at night I'll do pilates (or Core Max, or bosu depending what I'm in the mood for).
