Picking Out Baby Names

Ian Phillip

Ian after the Welsh Golfer Ian Woosnam who won the Masters in '93. We were watching the final round and I told my DH I loved that name and he agreed. The fact that Woosnam was from Wales was a bonus as my Grandfather was raised there. The name Ian is actually Scottish for John and the more common spelling in the U.K is Iain.

Phillip after my maiden name of Phillips.

If we had had a girl it was going to be Audrey Ann. Audrey after my DH's favorite movie star - Audrey Hepburn and Ann being the middle name of his mother and sister.

This is a great thread!! I really have enjoyed it.

OH - and our beloved beagle - Bayley. Bayley Beagle just rang out when we were coming up with names. I came up with the spelling.

SO - Bayley and Ian = Baylian!

Thanks Lynne! We're very happy with our choices and I hope the girls will like their names as they get older. I have always liked mine-not too common, not too unusual. And I've gotten used to saying, "It's Klaudia with a K":)

DDs are Olivia Hope and Sarah Joy. I picked the middle names and DH picked the first.

Cats are Simon Peter and Betty.

:D

My boys names are

Samuel Paul and Tristan Joshua

Both my kids were named after the characters in "Legends of the Fall". Paul is DH's first name. With my second son, I wanted to name him Tristan and DH wanted Joshua, I won :p. Tristan Joshua doesn't flow that well but it kept DH happy that Joshua is at least the middle name :D

I have 5 dogs, named Jack, Scooter, Shiloh, Tuxedo and Pepper.

Scooter, Tuxedo and Pepper were already named before I got them. I didn't like the name Scooter but couldn't come up with anything better.

Shiloh is Hebrew for the peaceful one, unfortunately he doesn't quite live up to his name :D He is a terror!!!

Jack was named after Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean and his personality matches the movie character.

Our cat's name is Nemo, no meaning, my kids just decided on the name.

Well, since fur-babies are included, I can participate (nice thing about naming pets : you see what their personalities are like before you give them a name).

My cat Simon looks somewhat Jewish to me, and I like the name Simon.
Bobsie has a bobtail.
Rascal just looks rascally (though he's more shy than rascally).
Pete just looks like a Pete to me.

I've also had a pet named Frisco (I always liked the name Sam for a cat, but never had one. I tried out "Sam" with him, then "Sam Francisco" --the name of a character on "Alien Nation". He seemed to really like the F-K sound combo, so it turned into Frisco).

Scooter (another passed-on pet) was named that because when he first came to live with me, he had to keep scooting out of the way to keep from getting whapped by Frisco (who thought he was a pesky kitten).

Punkin' was a family pet. She got her name after crawling into a carved-out Halloween pumpkin!

My own first and middle names are family names on my dad's side (his aunt Kathryn and his aunt Mary). My godparents later named their daughter Mary Kathryn, which annoyed me to no end, and it felt like it was taking my name somehow.

My cat's name is "Mac" too! He's named after my all time favorite literature character, James Alexander Malcom Mackenzie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series:)

I had a good friend in middle school named Lara-beautiful name:)

Klaudia...Thank you!! I agree with Lynne, your daughters names are unique and beautiful!! I hope your Mac is nicer than mine:).

ms71069...My middle name is Cecile, after my grandmother Cecilia. I am so proud to be named after her!

Carola...after seeing Brad Pitt in that movie, if I ever have a son I want to name him Tristan;)

Kathryn and Mary...I love Simon for a cat!

This is a great thread! I have enjoyed reading about everyone's names.
