so for those who have been doing this workout, what results have you seen and how frequently/how long have you been doing it?

Hi Karie,

Several years ago, I did Bar Method classes (at a studio founded by Burr Leonard w/ instructors trained by her) and their general rule for results is one month, doing hour long barre workouts a min. of 3x, but preferably 4x/ week. You'll likely see and feel results by the end of the 2nd week (tighter legs & butt, firmer abs & arms, better posture, more flexibility, etc).

You have to find your own "challenge zone" and since you're an advanced exerciser, you may need to go lower on squats & plies than the instructor shows. If you give your all to the workouts--for example, going deep enough so your legs literally shake for the last 20 reps, you will see results.

FWIW, they don't recommend doing heavy lifting in addition to the barre workouts as they consider it counterproductive. I love doing barre work and think it's a great plateau buster. The flexibility gains are wonderful too. Good luck and HTH!

Hi Karie,

I've only been doing barre workouts for about a month or two but I haven't been exclusively doing the Physique 57 (I've had the DVDs since 7/31 and do them an average of 3-4 times a week...sometimes more) DVDs. I need variety so I do mix them with Pure Barre and Fluidity... and whatever cardio that suits my mood that week.

I can't attribute all my results to "just one set" of DVDs, but in general I can say I've noticed more definition in my torso and legs as well as a higher rounder seat. I'm a little surprised because I never thought I could achieve these results without heavy weights. In general, I'm really pleased.

I haven't noticed any weight loss and to be honest, it's simply not a goal of mine (I've basically been about the same weight since my teens). What I have noticed is a much firmer body....and yes, that is always a goal of mine. :)

I'm sure these types of workouts aren't for everyone (as you already know, there is no such thing as a one size fits all workout ;)), but they really are working wonderfully for me.

HTH,

HTH,

Robin, I wanted to know how you incorporate these workouts into your weekly schedule while still lifting. Can you post an example week to give me an idea?

Karie,

I haven't been doing any set rotation or much weight work. This is also the first time I'm doing a rotation where I've been working out according to how I feel. When and if I do weights I usually do light weights with Jari Love or Power Hour and it' max only one or two days a week......the rest of the days are barre (mostly Physique 57), barre with some cardio or just cardio. Not planning ahead or doing much weight work really has been working out well for me. There really is a lot to be said for bodyweight workouts and not planning...I seem to workout a bit more. ;)

you sound like me. i've really cut back on the weights lately and haven't been feeling them like i used to. lately i've been doing power yoga and cardio but if i feel the urge to lift i do some lifting. I agree with bodyweight workouts being challenging. I should get my workouts next week (i just reordered after canceling my order a while back) I plan on incorporating them into my week about 3 times

Karie,

I really don't think you'll be disappointed. :) I also like that the Physique DVDs do include stretching. I just think stretching is something we tend to ignore but is tremendously important to increase overal flexibility. As a matter of fact, my 72 year old father insists it keeps him young and mostly pain-free, he wishes he started it earlier in life...lol. (By the way, my father really looks fabulous for his age ;))

I do hope Physique 57 comes out with more DVDs. I'll be first to buy.

Anyway, I'm off to do the full body workout and I'm looking forward to it. :)
