Peter Jennings of ABC news just died...

I just read the headline when I signed on line. I hope he didn't suffer. He will be missed.

Hey ladies,

I was going to come on here and ask when he died. I was listening to the news and they were talking about his life and showed he died. That is so sad. I grew up watching him.

I heard this while getting ready for work this morning. He just announced his illness in April, so I'm thinking that he and ABC must have known for some time before he went off the air. You can function with cancer for a little while before it becomes major. Of course, he must not have started his treatments yet because he still looked healthy when he made the announcement.

For anyone who knows Jim Kelly (former quarterback for the Buffalo Bills - back when they were good), his son Hunter finally passed away this weekend too. That's very sad for Buffalo. He and his dad have been heroes here.
 
that is soooo sad..breaks my heart about both Peter Jennings and Jim Kelly's son as well.....

This hit me hard. I lost a friend 2 months ago who was also a newsman (on the radio though)and also died of lung cancer. It's just so sad. :-(

So sad to hear this. I didn't know he was 67 years old. I thought he was younger. These anchors always seem invincible to me, especially when they go cover wars and natural disasters... This is just sad.:(

It is so sad. Donna, I didn't know Jim Kelley's son passed away too. I had seen an Oprah show a long time ago and they were talking about his illness. It gave me chills when I read your post.

I saw Peter Jenning's announcement and yes, he did still look good. That was way too fast.

I saw this on the news! I know he made it public a couple months ago that he had cancer, but man, he passed away fast. My dad passed away 2 years ago from lung cancer and he was only 65. He found out and in a matter of months he was gone.
 
It's the end of an era. I feel for Peter. His farewell speech was very moving. I think he knew. It's so hard. My mom has liver cancer, and what we're going through is tough. I cannot imagine announcing it to the world and only having 4 months. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
 
Peter Jennings announced that he had lung cancer soon after my brother was diagnosed with it. It makes me very very sad that he lost the battle. I haven't talked to my brother today but imagine that he is probably not taking it well.
 
It is very sad but we can all take something away from this - DON'T SMOKE. He admitted himself that he was a long-time smoker and that likely led to his condition. This should serve as a reminder to all to reexamine their lifestyle choices and pledge to live healthy lives free of nicotine.
