Periods postpartum ?????

Can any of you mums out there shed any light on this one?

Since I lost my baby very late into my pregnancy some 3 months ago my period isn't like it ought to be...or rather, like it was. I'm now on a 39 day cycle and my period lasts 8-9 days and is very, very heavy. I was on a 30 day cycle before, 4-5 days duration and very light. Is this a normal occurence after a baby and everything will settle down soon in time? I don't like bothering the doctor unless I have to.

Anytime you are concerned about something like this, you should always feel free to call the dr or nurse at your clinic. That's what they're there for. After my miscarriage, I felt as if I bled forever. It wasn't super heavy, but it seemed to go on for months. My dr. recommended a birth control pill to help thin out my uterus after the miscarriage. You may see if you dr thinks you should do this as well. I should point out that I was not wanting to get pregnant again after the miscarriage, so I'm not sure if his orders would have been different had I wanted to get pg right away again.

My SIL who had a baby 2 years ago, nursed for a year, with her period returning around 12 mos post partum was having heavier periods that were longer than her normal cycle, but now, 1 1/2 years later, have finally gotten back to the 30-day cycle, 4-5 days of bleeding that she was used to.

Hope this helps.
