Getting us started..

ended up only with house maintenance and shopping yesterday. so calling it a day off although it wasn't relaxing. then I couldn't sleep last night. I hate that. feel just as tired this morning as when I went to bed. Had a bunch of labs run last week over some concerning symptoms, but all came back negative. a big relief.

Good afternoon. Today I did my usual light yoga workout, Morning Energy practice, which was 18 minutes. Other than that it’s a rest day for me. I have my family zoom this afternoon and I plan to try out a new recipe. I am making a sheet pan chicken shawarma with sweet potatoes. It looks like it will be good. I love sheet pan dishes since they are so simple. No fuss and easy clean up!

Valerie, thanks for getting us started this morning. I’m sorry that you didn’t sleep well. That’s good news about your labs.

Judy, it sounds like your work schedule is really picking up. I guess that’s to be expected as the weather improves.

Hello to all and have a wonderful day.

This morning I did my finished step routine. I feel like I still need to tweak it a little and move some things around. When I finish STS mid-April, I want to do an updated version of Rock Bottoms with the Bonus Butt Work, and I've pretty much got it all figured out. But, I'll be going up to Marquette for 3 days the end of the month to help move the boys stuff home, and there's not a good way to adjust it to get the proper workouts in, so I think I'll just do my rest week and then a couple of weeks of mixed types of workouts and then start it May 2.

Valerie glad to hear that your tests were all negative. I'm sure you were very happy about that. I generally shop Thursday mornings. Before COVID I usually did Friday mornings, but I found that Fridays had gotten busier. Thursday aren't bad especially if I go early. I try to get started between 8-3:30. If I get over there after 9, there are quite a few more people. Though still not bad.

Carolyn nice job with the power walk and yoga workouts. I may have turned on my gmail notifications on my phone in case I get an alert about Cathe's mat during my workout. LOL Still not sure I'll do it. A lot depends on how much shipping will be. Plus they've said it's a limited supply, but not given any numbers as to how many there will be.

Judy I'm sure you do get a ton of steps at work. Did I ever mention that my parents walk at the Lowe's near them? They started a long time ago when the mall near them closed. I'm not sure how much walking they actually get done as it seems to be a lot of socializing with staff as well. Staff actually offers them deals on things and has accommodated them more than usual on deliveries and even delivered some things that normally aren't. LOL

Hi,

Getting here late. Today I did Live Double Trouble. 46 minutes, 277 calories. This one was fun. It was the latest one she did this past Thursday. 2 upper body weight exercises, 2 lower body, and I think she does 4 or 5 rounds of this. Great calorie burn.

Valerie, glad your test results were good. I hope you get a better night's sleep tonight.

Carolyn, nice job on the yoga workout. John and I were just talking about sheet pan dinners....I would like to try the one you are doing today, if you can get me a link to the recipe.

Cathy, I forgot about the Fit Tower....it would make a good squat rack. Good plan for the workouts. A rest week is definitely good after finishing STS. I can imagine how it works walking at HD. Lots of activity. Nice that the workers do that for them.

Judy, amazing step counts! The workout I did today is another great Live for you to try!

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Today I did a short Peloton ride before work. I only worked 4 hours today. I work 6 hours tomorrow then I'll have 3 days off.

Valerie-That's good news about your tests.

Carolyn-Nice job with your yoga workout.

Cathy-We have a few customers that walk at Home Depot every day. They always stop to chat with employees. Home Depot and Lowes both have a similar layout and atmosphere and I can see how people would want to walk there. I had never thought about walking in a warehouse store for exercise before working there but I know mall walking used to be popular.

Deb-Great job with Live Double Trouble. That sounds like a good one too. I will put that on my list to try. I plan on doing Live Low Impact Cardio Compound Upper Body on Tuesday.

Diane Sue-I hope your move went well and that you are getting settled in your new home.

Carolyn that looks good. I would simplify it too. I love sheet pan dinners. love roasted sweet potatoes! One of those " adult "discoveries for me, delicious with a bit of chili powder. ( I hated sweet potatoes and squash. my family made them syrupy sweet ... inedible and awful!)
sheet dinners are flexible on quantity, and if you use a sheet or parchment paper, there is way less clean up. I don't want leftovers until I know I like something. I'd skip the hummus and sun dried tomatoes and probably split a naan. I love bread. DH doesn't like arugula. spinach instead. I have a "thing" about not too many flavors in a dish. I'll take a look at the NYT one too. need something for dinner tonight. I only use chicken breast and pound it so its even thickness. A PITA but avoids the uneven cooking issue with thick/thin chicken breasts. I never use chicken thighs or skin on breasts. I sub flattened chicken breasts. I occasionally buy a rotisserie chicken and hide the dark meat in soup something.

I have sheet pan chicken and broccoli recipe with romesco sauce that is delicious. will post when I come across it. I might have already posted it. Judy I think you had talked about a Misto sprayer. I got one a year or more ago and use it for spraying olive oil on broccoli before roasting. works great. adds flavor but not many calories.

took yesterday off too. just felt tired and achy, like I had a temp. good nights sleep and I'm much better today.
plan on a mountain bike when it warms a little. rained a lot yesterday so need to pick the route carefully or it will be a mud bath.

This morning I did Ellen Barrett’s Peace, Love, and Cardio, a fusion workout of walking, pilates, and yoga. That was 30 minutes with 174 calories burned. Average heart rate was 124 and maximum heart rate was 154.

We loved the sheet pan chicken shawarma. We will have the rest of the chicken tonight with hummus and the feta salad (using spinach since I don’t have any arugula). I always cook with two meals in mind with some variation to avoid boredom. I made the marinade in a bowl and coated the chicken in it for about 45 minutes before placing on the sheet pan to roast. That was the technique used in The NY Times version.

Valerie, I’m glad that you are feeling better today. I hope your plans for a ride work out for today. If you use chicken breast in the recipe it will cook more quickly. The marinade makes a nice pan sauce that is a necessary component of the overall dish. I love your recipe with the romesco sauce, too. In fact, I made sure that I picked up a jar of roasted red peppers when I went shopping last week so that I can make that soon.

Judy, I can see how walking at Home Depot or Lowe’s would work well for some people. Those stores are so huge. Great job with your ride before work.

Hello to Deb, Cathy and Diane Sue.

Back from my vaccine appointment. Got the Moderna and second dose will be April 26, so if I do have side affects by that one I hope they don't last more than a day and a half because I'm heading north on the 28th. Found out today that Nick is signed up for an appointment next Monday (first day Michigan opens up to everyone) and he'll have to get his second when he gets back here. Derek is opting just to wait and do it here for less hassle.

This morning I did STS Chest and Back. This is the week of the heaviest weights and on several things I was totally maxed out. A couple I bumped up a bit because otherwise I'd have had to add 4 lbs to each wrist and anything over 3 is a bit much for me. Tomorrow is a cardio day, so we'll see if I feel up to it.

The fact that they are so concerned about the cost of shipping on the yoga mat makes me think that shipping will add enough to the price that I won't be able to bring myself to do it.

Deb great job on Double Trouble and thanks for commenting on it. I was wondering how it would be.

Judy great job getting the ride in before work. Sometimes I do wonder how much my parents actually walk given the amount of conversing they appear to do. LOL

Valerie I discovered a lot of foods as an adult, too. My Mom firmly believed in boiling vegetables to death! Cans and frozen dinner were here favorite thing. Part of that came from the fact that starting at about 10 she was in charge of cooking for her family because my Grandma worked and Grandpa farmed. Once they both retired my Grandpa did a fair bit of the cooking because Grandma wasn't the best at it. My Grandma on the other side was a good cook, but it was hard to learn from her, because she was one of those who never used a recipe, it was just a bit of this and a bit that. Glad you are feeling better and hope you got your ride in.

Carolyn nice job on that workout. It sounds like a great combo.

I am back from the ride, 7.5 miles. muddy but OK. its a good skill to have in this area, riding thru mud.

My grandmother cooked for us more than my mother, but they cooked german food. everything in a cream sauce or floating in butter, way overcooked. they even had access to loads of fresh vegetables, and uncle was a truck farmer who brought them things regularly but didn't matter, they boiled everything to mush and then gave it another 10 min just to be sure. they were good at cakes, pastries, pies, but not so great with standard vegetables. lots of fatty meat. my grandmother ate the fat all by itself, like the Jack Sprat fairy tale. everything was made so you couldn't taste whatever poor vegetable was buried in there. they were fat inactive people. I taught myself to cook when I left home at about 18, with books and buying fresh vegetables and learning ways to cook them, one vegie at a time. At least I got the idea of cooking my own food from home, rather than canned, frozen, or ( lately) take out.

I know how heavy my Manduka mat is. this one looks much bigger. does not bode well for reasonable price.

Carolyn glad you like that recipe. I always have of napoleon red peppers on hand. the last people I made that recipe for thought it was too spicy, while even my DH doesn't think it spicy. I want heat in Everything so my judgement is not too objective hDH is pretty delicate. He thinks it’s fine. so you never can tell.

Well I've had an interesting time of it. Was tired last night, but slept restlessly till 1:30 and then was awake till 5. Was super thirsty and drank another quart of water over night. Woke up starving. Went and quick through a smoothie together then broke out in a sweat and felt nauseous and 10 minutes later felt fine. I'd had varying degrees of headache over night and that disappeared after that episode to, and now I feel okay again. Just have a sore arm. Definitely not much energy, so I'm going to skip my workout today, but I'll go outside and get some walking in this afternoon after it warms up.

Valerie I had a grandpa that did the same thing, would just slice a big chunk of fat off his meat and eat it. Yuck!

I didn't workout yesterday. I was going to do something after work but Chris needed to go to Micro Center and we ended up doing some grocery shopping afterwards and didn't get home until late.
I'm off work until Friday so I plan on getting some Live workouts and Peloton rides in this week.

Cathy-We got the Moderna shot too. We didn't have any problems after the first one but my arm was sore for a few days. I hope you feel better soon. I'm expecting to have some side effects after the second one. I scheduled 3 days off work just in case.

Valerie-I have a lululemon yoga mat and it is very thick and heavy. I only use it for yoga. I use my blue Cathe mats and the Fit Tower mat for all other workouts. I still have one of Cathe's blue altus mats that I haven't used yet. We bought several at Dunham's sports when they were on clearance back in 2013.

Carolyn-Great job with Peace, Love, and Cardio. That sounds like a good workout. One of the things I love about working at Home Depot is getting all the steps and exercise in. When it's really busy I almost feel like I'm marathon training again. I go through a pair of Hokas every 2 months, which is about what I did when I was doing marathons.

Hi to Deb & Diane Sue

Today I did Jessica Smith’s WS3 Tone and Flow, another fusion type workout. That was 32 minutes and 167 calories burned. My average heart rate was 120 and maximum heart rate was 155. I‘m doing a few days of active recovery with more gentle workouts.

Valerie, I’m glad that you enjoyed your muddy ride . While my mother was a very good cook, we ate a typical southern diet. When I moved away from home I was very concerned about my weight and wanted a different type of diet. I was always interested in nutrition, so I did a lot of reading and learned to cook food that tasted good, but was better for us. We occasionally splurge on things, but our diet is so different from the food that we both grew up eating.

Cathy, you had quite a time with the side effects of your vaccination. I’m glad that it was over after a few hours. Taking it easy today is a good idea.

Judy, we must have been posting at the same time. Enjoy your days off.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Cathy it is likely over after 12 hours or so. My DH had the sleep issues exactly like you describe. we had Pfizer. I was ill late the same day, he wasn't bothered until the second night. but that was it. small price to pay for immunity. I planned for it like Judy is doing. Hope for no problems but don't plan some critical difficult day right after.

its odd ... bad family eating habits can point you in opposite directions. my brother and sister kept up the family pattern and weigh 100 lbs more than I do. both have lost weight in recent years. they have the usual BP/ diabetes related problems. I dodged it ( so far) with a healthier lifestyle. if you change early, it makes a huge difference. it didn't shorten anyones lives much. grandmother lived to 98 , as did my mother and her sisters.
Grandmother lived for butter and fat, globs of it. it was absolutely revolting! she made our school lunches. it was a battle to keep butter and mayo off sandwiches. who puts butter on bread and then peanut butter? Ugh. she'd pour cream on our cereal. I tried to fish the cereal out of it because I couldn't throw it away and start over ( no wasting!! food) she thought it delicious. I didn't want a fat inactive life so I skipped what I could and learned to cook things I liked. Carolyn southern diets are probably just as bad. all the current stats show obesity and its related problems still going strong in the south. more than other areas.

Anyway, today is my birthday. the big 72. we will go hike and enjoy a nice partly sunny day.

Thank you.. a good birthday. Im reimagining my wardrobe and cleaning out my closet of things I never wear. too big, too old, time to clean out. I need some work clothes but not half a closet of them.

went on a nice 2+ hour hike and saw loads of porpoises, spring flowers. not busy so a lovely day. made a turkey roast for dinner. I forget if I mentioned these before. Jennie-o turkey roasts. frozen with no defrost needed. plunk right from the freezer in a roasting pan. they are wrapped in a thin oven proof bag. roast for 2-3 hours, mine is usually done in 2. it is turkey breast, small, good size for two if you want left overs. so easy. pretty good too. I like turkey. this is simple and doesn't leave massive leftovers, all breast meat. with some roasted vegies and a salad its a nice dinner.

off to mt bike in a different spot this morning. nice weather continues.

This morning I did WS3 Cardio Step Jam for 32 minutes and 234 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 145.

Valerie, your day sounds wonderful with the bike ride and the porpoises that you saw. That turkey roast sounds like the perfect dinner. I have a small turkey breast that I plan to cook Sunday for Easter. We love turkey and the leftovers, when we have them.

Waving hello to everyone.

We Mt biked at a state park today. A really busy day for us It was two hours of harder riding than we have done Since last fall. Ran into rough traffic too. Found a homeless person camped in the park off the trail. I am so done with homeless people ! Sprawled all over public spaces ...I am out of empathy. Bunch of drug addicts. nobody gets clean and it goes on and on. Their crap and garbage and needles everywhere. All the help handed to them and it does no good.
I saw an albino deer. As we got near the park off on a hillside away from the road. Dh tried to say it must be a cow but it was a deer standing still against a green background no way was it a cow !! We were driving with no pull out there and it wasn’t there when we drove back later. No chance for a pic as proof
I googled it and there have been white deer seen near there before.
We will try to ski tomorrow and then probably lay low for the weekend. Holiday weekends are my least favorite to do anything.
Where is everyone today?
I like turkey but not the whole carcass business. These roasts are simple no bones or skin or dark meat. They were on sale after the holidays so it cost only a few dollars. So easy to make.

Really not sure why I didn’t make it here yesterday. I did the heavy week of STS legs. Felt fine, but my arm was still a bit sore. Wasn’t an issue except in the front squats and I never find the barbell placement for that comfortable. Ended up wrapping a towel around my upper arm for some padding. Did the Live Boxing Hiit Express this morning. didn’t use weights as it is still a bit sore, but it was fine for moving. Hoping there was enough leg movement to help ward off some of the DOMS I’m sure will start to make their presence known later today.

Valerie I’m so glad you had a good birthday. Seeing porpoises and lots of flowers is a great way to spend it. Marquette has a group of I think 3 white deer that roam within the city limits. I’ve seen people post about them. They are definitely rare.

I’ll try to get back later. Have to get off on my shopping. For the first time in a year, I put an actual book on hold at the library and it’s one I pass on my way home from shopping, it’s a timed curbside pickup, so I have to make sure I’m done shopping in time.
