Pentagenatians & Beyond: W/B 2/10

Hi Deb and any later posters--

Have a great vacation, Deb! You lucky thing headed for warm weather!

This morning I did Legs premix 6 (48:33). I will be snowshoeing later, so that will also give me some cardio.

We only had about 8 inches of fluffy snow here in the Berkshires, and no power outages. For us it was a big fuss over nothing much. Boston, though, looks like it really was hit hard, and that's where our younger son lives, so I guess he has some digging out to do.

DH and I went to see Zero Dark Thirty yesterday. Valerie, I must warn you that the dialogue was very hard to make out at times. You would probably be better off waiting until you can get subtitles. I liked it, but don't think it will get best picture. I'm leaning toward Argo for best picture. I thought Jessica Chastain was especially good--very believable as a driven CIA agent determined to find and exterminate OBL. Bigelow has a nice way of using closeups of small gestures and facial expressions to delineate her characters. She definitely is a brilliant editor.

Off to Comfort Sunday at Mezze's tonight. Ham steak with red eye gravy--one of DH's favorites from his years in Kentucky.

How was the snow where you were, Lori??

Deb, hope you have a good trip.

Lynda & Lori.... hope you can dig your way out from under! and of course, that you have power.

I did bi's & tris yesterday. today it's nice out. too cold for a ride though, so we will do yard work and if that's not enough, I'll so a workout later. maybe the spin disk again. I fixed the pedal toe baskets and replacved the metal buckles with velcro. should be easier to use and won't keep coming apart in the middle of a workout like the buckles do.

Hi all!

After all the shoveling yesterday I did end up doing supercuts after all. Crazy but I did! We never lost power and I feel so blessed. There are so many still without power. Today we had to shovel the snow off the roof. Suppose to have some rain tomorrow so this needed to be done ASAP as there was a ton of snow up there. Oh life in New England!

I will not be working out today...two days of shoveling and I am done!!!

Chat with you tomorrow.

Lori

Good morning everyone!

I did Chest, Back, and Shoulders this morning (51:18).

Snowshoeing was great yesterday. It really warmed up and there was no wind, just lots of light lovely snow to go tromping through. Saw a pileated woodpecker tapping away at a tree. Otherwise, very quiet in the woods. The meal last night was also soooo good. And then we came home and I had a two hour episode of Downton Abbey to watch. Lovely day all around. Today, unfortunately, it's decided to rain on top of all that snow and to warm up. DH and I have figured that there is only a rare opening for snowshoeing and to carpe diem, and we are definitely right, because it looks like it will be a sloppy mess by the end of the week.

Lori--I don't do any of the snow cleanup, but almost all of it is plowing, so I am left off the hook. The storm wasn't bad for us, either. No power outage, but even if there were, DH has a generator, so we are never without power for long.

Hi Ladies,

I will only work 4 days this week. I asked for Friday off so that I can have a 4 day weekend. Today I did the Max Interval Circuit DVD, it is one hour long and It was
a killer. On Saturday I did the last day of the recovery week DVD and on Sunday I went to my sculpt class plus did the fit test that is required every 2 weeks while on the program.

I must say that I have improved quite a bit since the first fit test :)

No snow here, but it has been cold for Los Angeles standards. At least I get to wear my winter stuff.

I will be back later.

Josie

I did a premix on the spin disk for about 35 min after doing some yard clean up. I like this one more each time I do it. gets my heart rate up there and no impact, although the posture takes some getting used to.

supposed to be nicer today than it is, but it's drizzling and yucky.

that's usually our problem with snow.... it never stays cold ong and rain on top makes for an awful sloppy mess, and gets so heavy on roofs, trees, and decks that things can break down and cause mor eissues than the snow to begin with.

had a doctor appt this morning and a Costco run. my kitchen scale suddenly broke. it was only around $30 but it's so pathetic that nothing is ever fixable. just throw it away and buy another. so I did. hate to participate in that .

Good evening ladies!

This morning was Butts and Guts instead of Legs. Made sure I did the core portion since I left it out on saturday.

Today it rained on top of all the snow so it is really messy out there. Good that you got the snowshoeing in today Garance. Must be so beautiful where you go. I have never been and also thought I would enjoy it. Someday I'll try it.

Good for you Josie with the Fit Tests. Reading your posts I am going to give Insanity another try when I complete Xtrain. Perhaps I'll do a rotation with weights and and some Insanity to it. I am loving weights too much to give it up.

Valerie...I agree with you about replacing things. Hate it when I am unable to fix something and have to go buy new.

Have a great night all.

Hi all

Wifi is not working in the room so have to use in meeting
Room. Ugh.

Using iPad with Travel Fit and treadmill so far

Guarantee, which episodes of Da did you see? What was at the end? Is the Tv series done now?

Lori, glad all turned out ok with the storm.

Hi to Valerie & Josie

Take care.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets Express +Step premix (47 min.). My substitute for Tabatacise.

Deb, next week is the season finale, 2 hours, of Downton Abbey. This last week was the homosexual confrontation, the cricket game, the resolution of how to make the estate work, poor Edith's problem with suitable suitors--if they're too old, the wrong class, then they're married to mad women (reminds me of Jane Eyre and Rochester). How's the warm weather?

Do you prefer Butts and Guts to Legs, Lori?

Two new biographies of Plath for me to read. One of them looks like it's dealing with new material, while the other is a retread of everything I know already. Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of her suicide.

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning I ran 3 miles on TM and will do chest, back and shoulders at home tonight while DH is on the bike. I like it when I plan to run in the morning because I get to sleep an extra 1/2 hour!

Deb how is Travel Fit working out for you? I do the same thing when I travel I combine TF and the treadmil. I like Travel Fit but only do it when I travel so it always feels fresh if this makes any sense.

Garance..cardio supersets is a great substitution. I like the Legs workout but prefer B&G's so I have been alternating between the two. Works well for me.

Hi to Josie and Valerie!

Good morning.. went to yoga this morning, will do burn sets later today, or possibly a cardio disk.
Bummer Deb, that there's no WiFi. is something out of order ? I would think you'd get another room..... online access is too important now to not have it available.

We have put our new kayak together twice now and will do a couple more practice runs before using it in water. need to get paddles and PFD's too. It's not too hard to put together but takes teamwork to do it quickly, and has to be done in the right order. right now I'm typing up a step-by-step so we can get more efficient at it. we did something out of order yesterday and got stuck and had to backtrack. all in all, its not that hard but needs to be done right or you get to a spot where you can't finish. it seems awfully big when it's inside the house

I will do the right thing and get us back on page 1.

Did disk 7, the HIIT one. I liked most of it and didn't find it too hard. not crazy about the step part most was simple enough to do on a high step. did the Ab bonus. Really like that one, same one as on at least one other disk but that's fine, easier than changing disks at the end of a workout.
started doing the 100 rep cactus challenge too but got to 50. enough for the first time. no discomfort this morning so will do more next time. I still haven't tried the hip thrusts that are on another disk.

MIL fell and is in the hospital. dehydrated, and not sure what else. hopefully hospice will get called in. not sure if she'll return to her home, which she will no doubt want to do once she gets all rehydrated and feels better.... but she's proving she can't be alone. even with 2 people there she still is going downhill fast.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Bis and Tris burn sets (37:15).

DS sent a picture of what it looked like outside his apartment in Boston yesterday after Nemo. Incredible! The cars were completely buried in snow. I hope this new storm stays off the coast.

Gosh Valerie, I haven't even looked at the challenges yet. I'm just doing the twelve week undulating rotation. Maybe after I complete that I will take a look at all these extras. It does sound as though your mother-in-law needs full-time care.

DH bought 5 boxes of girl scout cookies! I told him that he's responsible for ingesting them (although I might have a mint cookie now and then). I don't like the do-si-dos he likes, but I do like the tagalongs. Sigh! I must try to resist.

Hi Ladies,

Yesterday I did the Max Interval Plyo DVD. It was tough and a had to modify a couple of the moves. I did not workout this morning, but will do the Max Cardio Conditioning DVD when I get home. I needed to sleep in today.

Valerie, sorry to hear about you MIL’s fall, I hope that she can get full time care.

Garance, I did not order any cookies this year. Last year I ended up throwing them away because no one ate them.

Deb, hope that you are enjoying the weather in Palm Springs ;)

Hi to Joan!

Josie

Hi ladies!

Last night was chest back and shoulders and this mOrning was tabatacise. I love doing tabatas and this work out is tough. My legs really feel this workout.

Valerie - the only time I went kayaking was just recently in Cancun and I loved it. The water was a beautiful aqua. Sorry to hear about your MIL.

Garance - yes the snow was crazy here! I live about an hour from Boston and work about 40 minutes from the city. The snow was unbelievable. My little fiat was buried.

DH just texted me and asked about working out tonight. After doing the tabatas this morning I may just watch him!

Have a great afternoon!

that was the first of the challenges I looked at. it's supposed to strengthen the rotator cuff area, a place where I think I'm pretty strong already. I didn't think doing 50 was that much of a challenge. I think the hip thrusts might be a different story, however.

yard work this morning so not sure if I'll do any more. we cut down two very nasty overgrown bushes, loaded them in the back of the truck. it was a lot of work!

I usually get Dh some GS cookies. he likes them all. I don't like them enough to make up for the calories. I usually shop after my yoga class though, and no girl scouts are around at 8:15 am, so I need to make a special effort to shop when they're likely to be there. . he really is the cookie monster sometimes. he loves those anna's thin tea cookies too. I think they taste burned. that's fine, I don't need cookies around that I like.

the kayak is really cool.... you get a really solid double kayak out of metal pieces and a skin. two bags that go in the back seat of the truck. course, we need paddles, pfd's etc. it isn't that hard to put together and will get easier as we do it regularly.

Good morning Deb, Garance, Joan, Valerie and Josie!

Ran 3 miles this morning on a 3% incline. I usually run at a 2% never 3%. I swear Xtrain is making me so strong! Loving it.

Tonight will be burn set bis and tris. DH is working late so I figured instead of sitting around watching TV I would plan my strength workout for tonight. I most likely will do one of the 100 rep challenges too.

I LOVE girlscout cookies too! My favorites are the mint, lemon and the shorbread. I can eat the entire sleeve of the mint if you let me. Oh and I prefer the mint frozen. I have been doing the same thing...avoiding the girlscouts at walmart. If I give them eye contact then I am done in and will end up buying 5 or 6 boxes!

Have a great afternoon ladies!

Hi Ladies,

Today I did the Max Cardio Conditioning DVD. It was a non stop endurance workout.
I almost threw up! But I finished it :)

I have a 4 day weekend, so I will not get up at 5 to do my workouts. I plan to sleep for as long as I can. Knowing me I will probably be up by 6:30 or 7:00 the latest.

My DD is off tomorrow also, so we plan on having a beauty day. Nails, brows, hair and then lunch. Can’t wait!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Josie

Happy Valentine's Day!

This morning I did Hard Strikes (46:30). I'm definitely getting better on those snatches.

Ooh, Lori, what a good idea on the mint cookies! I will put mine in the freezer pronto. A colleague has a daughter who sells Girl Scout cookies, so she solicits the department's support every year. Happy to help her, although I wish DH wouldn't want so many boxes.

Going out to dinner tonight for Valentine's day. Anyone else with romantic plans?

Valerie, I've only been kayaking once in Hawaii. Enjoyed it a lot, although I think I like canoeing even better. Did quite a bit of that in Minnesota.

Have fun with your day off, Josie. Sounds like a spa day to me--luxurious and pampered.
