Getting us started for the week.

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes. Saturday was my rest day and I went to the Farmer’s Market for fresh produce.

Valerie, I’m the same with my eating. I eat foods that I enjoy, usually something I prepare at home. I try to avoid overly processed foods.

Have a great day everyone.

Friday I did a 45-minute Peloton walk, a 20 minute Peloton strength workout and an hour of restorative yoga. Yesterday I did a 30-minute Peloton Barre Sculpt workout and 10 minutes of PT work. Today I did a 30-minute Peloton walk and 60 minutes of easy riding on the Peloton bike, watching YouTube. I had my blood work done at around 8 am Friday morning and the results were back very early Saturday morning. I couldn’t believe how fast the turnaround time was. I wasn’t expecting results until Monday or Tuesday. Fortunately, everything was in the normal range.

Shannon-Great job with your PHA style workout.

Carolyn-Great job with JS 15 Minute Calorie Burst and Jane Adams Gentle Yoga.

Cathy-I hope you have a nice and safe drive home today.

Hi to Valerie

ve done two sets of stretches and ab work today. going to do a short spin and some upper body weights. nothing too detailed, maybe another 30 min worth.

carolyn did you find that if you eat enough "decent food" veggies fruit, complex carbs and protein that the attraction to high calorie desserts and chips went away? it sure did for me. i thought maybe it was getting older and wiser! i still enjoy treats occasionally but nothing crazy.

wow judy that is a lot of time walking and riding. our routine labs arrive back within hours unless its an odd ball test. no one interprets them though if there is something out of range.

ETA did a 25 min spin and then weights for another 30 min.

I got home last night. I have extra laundry today, because of not having a washer before I left. Plus I still had the comforter the cat threw up on. Hopefully it’ll still come clean. This morning I did Live Yoga and Mobility Stretch. It was in my favorites, but I don’t remember ever doing it. Sometimes I see something and mark it favorite, but don’t do it at the time.

On the days I went to zoos, I have total step counts for the day, and by far most of the steps were at the zoos.

Cleveland 15784
North Carolina Zoo 17,015
Columbus 18,342

Was happy that I didn’t gain weight on the trip, and we ate out at Mexican restaurants twice. Of course for me that means bean and rice burritos, and I was careful to minimize my free chip eating as it’s easy to eat too many. Oh, and there was the night we were staying in cabins before going to the North Carolina Zoo and ended up at a diner that had only one employee working. I ended up with onion rings and the tiniest most meager salad ever. Tiny bowl, lettuce, a slice of tomato, a slice of cucumber and too many big pieces of onion.‍♀️

This morning I had a doctor’s appointment so no workout today. It was my annual oncology follow up appointment. Everything is normal.

Judy, great job with the Peloton walks, strength work, barre sculpt, restorative yoga, and PT. It’s very surprising that your lab results were available so quickly.

Valerie, nice job with stretching, abs, spinning, and weights. As for food, I don’t want many of the higher calorie things that I once enjoyed.

Cathy, welcome home. That’s a lot of steps that you racked up on your vacation!

Hello to Shannon.

all those steps probably had an effect on the lack of weight gain, dontcha think?? . I used to be an ovo lacto vegetarian if those terms are still used. traveling was what made me soften my position some. especially smaller midwest or western towns, if you dont eat cheese or chicken you can barely get anything to eat. i did not like being hungry or eating junk only because I was way too hungry. i still dont eat large amounts of animal protein but i eat some. if the only thing i will eat on a menu is a piece of grilled chicken or fish, I'll take that over a plate of fries or onion rings. it is not a perfect world. hopefully your washer is up to the task i agree carolyn, i simply dont have any desire for elaborate desserts or even snack chips. i like less sweet/ salty than i used to. its not "will power" i dont find it appealing anymore.

did a big costco run this morning, the cupboard was very bare after our time away. DH got his covid shot. i got my flu and covid before we went on our trip.

Today was an active rest day. We had some errands to run and I got caught up on laundry and housework this afternoon. I probably overdid the walking and riding a bit the past few days. I definitely felt it today. I’m glad I have a PT appointment tomorrow. Hopefully I can get back on track.

Valerie-Great job with the stretching, ab work, spinning, and weights. I was vegan for several years but I do eat fish and chicken now and some dairy products.

Cathy-Wow, that is a lot of steps! I’m not surprised that you didn’t gain any weight. Great job with Live Yoga and Mobility Stretch.

Carolyn-I’m glad your doctor appt went well and that everything was normal. That is always a good feeling. I agree, it was very surprising to get the results so quickly, especially on a Saturday morning. Our doctor switched to a new medical system this year. In the past it would take 2-3 days or longer to get blood test results.

Hi to Shannon

Let’s see. I need to go back to Friday. I tried walking the property again but staying down in the fields, no forest. I thought it was okay, and it felt equivalent to a road walk. But I woke up Saturday with a sore knee. Nothing specific happened during the walk, so my guess is just accumulated impact on uneven ground because I was trying my very best to power walk. I suspect I need to keep my cardio workouts on the treadmill. I feel very, very limited and frustrated. Cardio has always been my favorite workout, but not anymore. But I guess I’ll keep on trucking.

Saturday was an “active” day, but definitely not an “active rest day.” I had to move furniture again. Can you believe that? The arrangement I had just done to move the treadmill just wasn’t getting it. It took me all day to get things exactly right. The main thing that wore me out was that I didn’t think to put shoes on. I always walk around the house in my sock feet, and I have tile floors. My feet were pretty achy, and I thought, oh yeah, shoes would help. Duh.

No workout on Sunday. Yesterday I had meetings at the office and then had to come home and work late, but I managed to get a 30-minute stretch in before bed.

Judy – I’m glad your bloodwork turned out ok. I had some done a while ago and just got the lab bill. Insurance covered most of it, but just looking at the charges – oh my goodness. They’re astronomical.

Valerie – I wish I could reach your point in life where I don’t enjoy treats! CHOCOLATE! Give me CHOCOLATE! LOL.

Cathy – Welcome home. Fingers cross that your comforter comes clean.

Carolyn – I’m very glad your oncology follow-up is normal. I’m sure that’s a relief every year!

This morning I did Live Jabs and Kicks, and jumped back into weights with STS Disk 1. I will definitely be feeling my pecs tomorrow courtesy of all those push ups, and as I’ve said before I am not a push ups fan anyway! Heading to my parents in a few minutes.

Carolyn glad your appointment went well. I have a follow up with my doctor soon on bloodwork, but I already know the results. But, I’ll pay my $20 to chat with him.

Shannon moving furniture is definitely a workout. Yes, health insurance is crazy expensive. Got the info for my Medicare Wellness check, which is “free.” The breakdowns aren’t comprehensible to people. My blood pressure check showed up as being .01. Yes a penny and it was denied. Make it make sense!

Valerie my worst eating days are second day of the return trip. I start out with food from home, but that last day I’m eating on the road. Plus if I’m driving 10-12 hours even if I have food with me I start wanting other things, and gas station stops are not helpful.

Judy I hope your PT appointment is helpful.

This morning I did Stacked Sets Upper Body, 43 minutes, 161 calories before, average heart rate 112, and maximum heart rate 140. I just finished grinding wheat berries and getting a loaf of bread started in the bread machine.

Judy, an active rest day sounds like a good idea.

Shannon, maybe you need to adjust to a moderate pace when walking around your property. I’m sorry that your knee is bothering you.

Cathy, nice job with Live Jabs and Kicks and STS disc 1.

Hello to Valerie.

well now shannon chocolate is its own category. I love chocolate. i eat chocolate often!. i like dark chocolate not messed with. good dark chocolate !!. i have a small piece every day. im not a fan of milk chocolate or cheapie stuff. DH always has things like snickers bars sitting around. too sweet and not good chocolate so im not interested. i like chocolate everything basically except cheap candy. its something i can fit in and really enjoy. especially chocolate and coffee together.

when we travel DH has an egg mcmuffin /hash brown on the way back. i have to go in and get it for him. i dont eat them. i dont think anything at mcdonalds is edible anymore. long ago they have a grilled chicken burger that was ok but long gone. i dislike breaded everything. i eat an apple with PB. for a while FF places had salads but i dont think they do anymore. our usual drive does not have a big variety of FF places near the freeway and i dont wander around looking for them. since we usually leave from our house either direction, i can always have something loaded to eat to keep from getting hungry. Gas station food is not tempting. hummus and crackers are good too but not so much if you are the driver.

i did two sets of stretches and a 30 min outdoor walk yesterday. today i have a cardio pre surg clearance appt so not sure what i will do.

Today is another rest/PT day. I had my PT appointment and it went very well. He did some myofascial release work today and it really helped with my hip pain.

Shannon-I’m sorry about your sore knee. I agree with Carolyn, maybe a moderate pace would be better for walking around your property.

Cathy-Great job with Live Jabs and Kicks and STS Disc 1.

Carolyn-Great job with Stacked Sets Upper Body. Home made bread sounds wonderful!

Valerie-Great job with your stretches and walk. I hope your pre surg clearance appt went well today.

I make a loaf of wheat bread about every 2 weeks. I like to eat a slice for breakfast with avocado. I’m not a sandwich person, so it lasts a while. I slice the loaf and put parchment paper between the slices before freezing.

I meant to add about walking on uneven surfaces after carolyn mentioned it. i almost always walk on uneven surfaces. i wear lightweight hiking boots, something with ankle support. if you do it regularly you might do better with better ankle support. the unevenness slows you down and works feet and ankles more. i get more sore from walking on flat surfaces. its what you get used to. its like uphill and downhill change your posture a little. i do better with changes than i do with a flat surface. i have hyperflexible ankles. i need the support of a higher boot.

Good morning. Yesterday I did my usual total body weight workout. I was moving kind of slow, so it took a bit longer than usual. Therefore, I decided to skip abs. That didn’t break my heart. Too bad the core is so important, or I’d just ditch abs totally, LOL.

Cathy – You sure did jump back into the workouts! Good job! I wish I could do pushups, but they totally kill my right shoulder. I’m telling you, if there are real people handling those insurance claims, they don’t have brains! One cent? Really?

Carolyn – Nice work on Stacked Sets Upper Body. Oh my, the wheatberry bread sounds scrumptious! I used to bake bread but got tired of spending forever in the kitchen. Maybe I should get a bread machine.

Valerie – LOL, I agree. Dark chocolate is in a class by itself. Yeah, the cheap stuff is nasty, Hershey’s especially.

Judy – I’m sure glad your hip pain is better and that your PT appointment went well.

Okay, the walking thing. First, thank you ladies for your suggestions. I appreciate it. I love to walk anywhere and everywhere. I’m always walking around the property and I love to hike (but don’t do it often enough), so I walk on uneven surfaces all the time at a normal pace. That doesn’t bother me. Oh and I do wear hiking boots. My current ones are mid-height. My feet prefer the firm soles, so I wear them all the time, no matter what I’m doing.

The problem arises because now walking is the only form of cardio I can do. My normal pace isn’t enough to get my heart rate up where I want it, so that’s why I power walk. I got the treadmill because I wanted to make use of the incline to really get the heart pumping, but too many hills gave me hamstring tendonitis. So then I went out on the road for recovery, and to remove the temptation of increasing incline. Then I nearly got hit by a car. That’s why I shifted to trying to power walk on our property, but the increased speed on the uneven terrain doesn’t really work well. So it looks like I’m back on the treadmill. It’s boring and I don’t like it, but I don’t know what else to do to get an adequate cardio workout.

Sorry for all this …

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, 26 minutes, 159 calories burned, average heart rate 121, and maximum heart rate 135.

Valerie, nice job with stretching and outdoor walking.

Judy, I’m glad that PT helped your hip pain.

Shannon, nice job with your total body weights.

Hello to Cathy.

Had a CT scan this morning. have to trudge all the way to the hospital for this because of some insurance (united) jerking everyone around. cant use the close by clinic that ive used multiple times before and is my primary care, because the specialist i see is not part of the same group. does this make you crazy?? why? the group gets paid for the imaging service by Medicare or the supplemental insurance i carry but no, we cant do anything that makes sense and i have to now trudge 20 miles further to the hospital for this. its not my fault they dont have the right specialist available so clearly have to go somewhere else. grrr..... we need the health care system completely re vamped.
back was really bothering me today. so i did two sets of stretches and some curls and push ips. and let it go at that.

I did 45 minutes on the treadmill last night. It was okay. I need to find a good balance for using the incline. My hamstring is a little sore but not too bad, so hopefully I'll be able to work in some hills. I might as well get used to it. It's getting too dark by the time I'd finish any outdoor walks anyway.

Carolyn - Nice job with Cardio Quick Fix.

Valerie - Yeah, insurance and healthcare are a mess for sure. I'm sorry you had to drive so far for your CT scan. I hope the results show something that will help you.

This morning I did RWH Legs, 38 minutes, 183 calories burned, average heart rate 117, and maximum heart rate 139.

Waving hello to everyone. Have a great day.
