Good morning & Happy Labor Day!

Forgot to start the new week's thread yesterday...I barely knew it was Sunday.

The trial is over ( this one at least) and it went well. The usual complaining and crap, but that is normal. Our team won 1st place again, now we are undefeated! We have a video, but it is long and not the same as being there....our music person didn't know how to use the phone that it was on...so that part was not right...but we won and it was fun.

Lori, my friend stayed at a Holiday Inn Express when she came here and I was kind of surprised at how nice they are. Do you use a Blue Tooth type headset with your iPad when streaming? LOL about hurting your son's GF in a workout. :)

Lynda, I may do that R/W HIIT Leg premix today, but not sure, my legs are really aching from standing on soccer turf for 2 days. I guess I will watch that last episode of Catastrophe...just to finish it. I bet they do another season. I don't think I will continue it though.

Judy, when I did Meso 3, I liked it, but would cut the rest time between sets to about 30-45 seconds, used the fast forward on the remote a lot!

Josie, I hope you come back a winner!

Hope to relax today, after a workout.

Take care,

Judy It's been a while since I did STS. I did three meso's including the waiting periods. I was going pretty heavy and I needed the rests. I didn't ever do many of the leg workouts.
I never did the one rep max. too many of the moves were new to me and I didn't like the idea of going that heavy with unfamiliar movements. I mostly guessed and recorded. I was surprised at how accurate guessing turned out to be. I enjoyed all of them. I remember the waits in meso 3 being a little annoying but I mostly did them as directed. Now that I am doing upper weights again I'll think about it for this winter. It's too rapidly progressive for me to attempt right now but I hope I can reach that level in a couple months. no rushing I am reminding myself, and all of you feel free to remind me if I get over confident and push the envelope too much.

Lynda, I know the Guernica was horrible looking, about the horrors of Spanish civil war... read that long ago but would not have figured that out looking at the image. I would have guessed an explosion at a farm, just to show you how "literal" I am with images. I looked up Holbein and realized he was the artist doing the henry VIII paintings in the Tudor series we just watched. I am embarrassed by my pathetic knowledge of history. too many events, too little time spent in school on it. I need to look up the other name and want to ask you a couple other things.
going to go ride now while the sun is shining.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both low impact hiit workouts together (50:08).

We have had a lovely weekend. The weather has been perfect for cookouts and MIL and FIL were in very good spirits and delighted to meet our son's girlfriend. She is training for the NY marathon on Nov. 1 and went for a 7.5 mile run today while our son is golfing. Yesterday they went up to the top of Greylock and then went up to Manchester for some outlet shopping. DH has been incredibly busy. The farmer's market on Saturday was extremely lucrative with people buying meats for their cookouts. He has also been haying in this perfect weather. I have been doing a lot of cooking of side dishes and desserts and just enjoying the company a lot.

Deb, congratulations on another win! I wish we could see a little bit of it because it sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe you should do an upper body workout if your legs are feeling a bit sore. I'm not sure I will stick with another season of Catastrophe either. It is pretty raunchy.

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Valerie, I guess we were posting at the same time. I, too, did the long waits on meso 3. And, I did a 6 month rotation one of the 3 times I did STS. I probably should not have done the leg workouts because that's what injured my shoulder. Bye-bye STS. Sold!

Back from our ride, way too busy today. lots of large groups of bicycles, and loads of families with kids. we bailed at 15 miles. just too congested to be fun.

Deb, congrats on being winners. How many people/dogs are on your team?

My wimpy little kitty caught and killed a small rabbit yesterday. DH intervened before he chewed on it though. no idea how he did it because he is not much of a hunter but I guess he's learning.

I'm sure I did STS for 6 months the first time too. it was a few years ago. I did parts of it at least twice more. DH still uses an STS workout as his regular upper body workout. I'd never done that long a time commitment before. the only upper body I'd done was cathe's gym style, so I was cautious. so many moves were new and I was stymied about the 1 rep max business until I decided it was not going to work for me. . I made serious strength gains in 6 months.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM's Cardio Pump. This is the pyramid one she put out. It seems like Monday to me...I guess that's normal after a Monday holiday. It was so humid here yesterday, the air was oppressive. I didn't want to go outside for anything. We did some errands, had a Chinese lunch, then I stayed in the rest of the day. Read a lot.

Lynda, nice weekend with your family, the best kind to have. I will post the video on YouTube and put a link here. I agree, I thought Catastrophe was raunchy, and it seemed like it was a forced kind, not natural. Not like you can recognize "natural" raunchiness but I think you know what I mean.

Valerie, yes, I would guess it would be too crowded for a ride, being the holiday, last weekend of summer etc. Just think of the nice week days ahead when there are less people around. I did the one-rep-maxes on STS, but don't use them anymore when I do those workouts. I just pick a weight I think will be challenging, and then mark it down to see if I can go heavier next time.

Hi to Josie, Judy & Lori,

Take care,

Deb sometimes it's a surprise if there are no crowds when you expect them. like many, we don't want to fight labor day traffic. this trail is close by. bicyclists in large numbers can be pretty obnoxious. they hog the whole trail and just about run over walkers. DH and I are more polite by far. wish large groups would not take over the entire trail, gives bicyclists a bad rep.

Forced vs natural raunchiness is a great description. Did you ever see "Californication"? I sat thru a little.... to me, that was forced raunchiness. I couldn't stand it especially david duchovny. some sections of OITNB seem forced to me too. there are enough good sections though, so I'm ignoring the forced parts.

the cathe newsletter this week has a good talk about shoulder injury and also about cold showers. never heard of those being used as described here. I would use cold packs for localized use, like an ice wrap on a ankle, or knee or shoulder. sitting in a tub of 50 degree water would not be something I'd do willingly.

off to go mt biking
ETA started raining as we drove there. turned around and will try again after, lunch if it stops. I opened a gel shot to try, finally. No, afraid these are not for me. made me think of eating toothpaste.
double shot light and stok are coming out on top here.

Hi Ladies,

Did not workout al all for 4 days but today I will be doing Bodypump at the gym. My DH is getting his physical and we will not be able to workout with Karina today and Thursday because that is my turn for a physical :).

Deb, congratulations on the win. I did come back a winner ;)

Valerie, we came back on Sunday from our weekend in San Diego to avoid all the traffic. There were a lot of people heading to the beach because we are having a heat wave. It is 81 and 64% humidity right now and I'm near the beach :(

Garance, glad that you FIL and MIL are doing well. It sounds like you ad a wonderful weekend.

Hi to Judy and Lori!

Josie

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ch, sh, tris with core 1 (47:58).

Josie, we are having a heat wave here as well. Been up to 90 the last two days and dewpoint up to 70, so it is steamy. I like the hot weather though, and it always cools down up here at night. Also, the stars have been spectacular. I'm happy, though, that we have leftovers and I don't have to do any serious cooking tonight. Going out with friends tomorrow to Bascom Lodge for dinner. It's at the top of Greylock, and this time I hope it's not foggy.

Deb, I agree with you on the forced raunchiness. That was my problem with Trainwreck. It just wasn't as funny as I had hoped. I started watching The Hand of God last night. Looks pretty good so I will watch a couple more episodes and see if it's a keeper.

Hi to Valerie and Judy!

Good evening ladies,

Came home yesterday and we are exhausted from staying up late for two nights then driving home in this heat. Just drains you. No workout yesterday or today. It is 6:30pm and I most likely will be in bed by 7:30 and will be perfectly fine with this! The wedding was so nice and I could not be happier for my Niece and her new husband. Of course I have already made an awesome video of her wedding and sent it to her. Came out phenomenal! :)

Lynda...while driving on the Mass Pike thru the Berkshires I saw a billboard with Whistler's Mother and immediatly thought of you and how close you may be to this sign. Glad your cookouts went well. Boy has it been hot here. One of my coworker's sons school announced today they will be closed tomorrow due to the heat.

Deb...looking forward to the video! I was the same way all day today thinking it was Monday. Threw me off completely.

Josie...glad you had a successful trip :).

Valerie...thanks for mentioning cathe's newsletter. I'll be sure to read that article. Are you still planning a little vacation soon?

Have a great night...I'm going to bed!!!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did R/W/HIIT Low Impact, with Bonus Abs 1. This is the one with the weighted moves and also the weighted ab/core workout. I like this premix a lot.

Valerie, I did not see Californication.... doesn't sound like something I would like. I bypassed the article on cold showers.. I don't see how that is different from ice packs? I like that you are doing reviews of the energy shots! Since retiring, I have not had to use one, but I like the fact that they are there if I need it.

Josie, good luck with your physical tomorrow.

Lynda, keep us posted on The Hand of God. (notice I am starting to use the italic option? I didn't realize it was there until you mentioned it) LOL

Lori, that is so nice that you made that video and have already sent it What a great aunt you are. :). Schools just started here yesterday..but I forget that they don't have A/C...I don't know how the kids and teachers can stand it...but we have never had a closing due to heat.

Kylee may have another fractured tooth....:(....during the vet visit to get her rabies shot, the vet looked at her teeth, commented on how clean they were ( we just had her teethe cleaned in June where they pulled 2 of them due to an abscess and fracture) and she said it looks like she has a fractured tooth. What??? I was pretty upset, finally got to speak with the other vet last night that did the dental procedure, and she is going to take a look at it tomorrow to see if it is bad enough to have to come out. This is crazy...but I guess I have to blame it on those Nylabones...I took them all away from them....now I need to get something else for them to chew on that doesn't break their teeth...:(

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Dancin' Abs (58:00).

Deb, I am definitely enjoying The Hand of God, especially Dana Delaney as Crystal. A strong female character who is also trying to be supportive to a husband who seems to be going off the deep end. I don't understand why the language is so rough. Do people in power talk like this habitually? I have never given Max a Nylabone, but he certainly gets his share of marrow bones and hasn't had any problems.

Lori, that's really kind of you to do a video. When my older son (now divorced!) was married, they hired someone to do this and I think they paid a pretty penny. The photographer was also expensive. The Clark has been having a very big summer with the Van Gogh and Whistler exhibitions. Parking has been a thorny issue because the Clark is located on a very high end street in town, with beautiful houses, and some people choose to park there instead of the museum lots because they don't want to wait for a shuttle to take them to the museum from the far-flung lots. The people who live on that street are not happy with all the traffic and complain about people blocking their driveways. It is really hot here as well, but I guess tomorrow will be a break and finally some rain.

Out to dinner tonight at the top of Greylock. With our luck, it will probably be raining.

Hi to Valerie, Josie, and Judy!

Good evening!

Still no workout. I have a bit of a sore throat and I am still exhausted so taking it easy. I have been leaving the house at 6:30am and coming home at 6:00pm so no wonder I am still really tired.

Deb...I'll have to try out that premix. It sounds great. I prefer the RWH cardio ones with the abs mixed throughout. Oh poor Kylee. Hope her tooth does not have to come out. But if she is in pain then yes it should go. I am taking Chester to the Vet on Saturday morning to evaluate his hips. We need to see what is going on. He has looked uncomfortable the past couple of days. Not looking forward to this visit at all.

Lynda...I bet the locals hate the extra traffic and I can see being upset with people blocking driveways. That is not good at all. I love making the videos. 2 people I work with both do photography on the side and have mentioned joining forces. Perhaps some day I will but right now it is a nice little hobby.

Hi to Josie, Judy and Valerie!

Good morning,

A nice day yesterday, started out with a jog/walk at the track with my cousin, and agility class last night with Kylee was fun.

Lynda, maybe I am out of touch with the "mainstream" of things...but I where I am people to not talk like that, whether in a work environment or a social one. I think that is part of why I didn't like Catastrophe...the language was actually shocking for me to hear in such a casual way. Don't get me wrong, I have been known to say a few choice words, but not in the way that they do...every other word..it's like they can't speak a sentence without a foul word. The language in Mad Men was more realistic. I guess in my area we are still in the '60's LOL...:). I think I would be upset too if I was living near the Clark, but it's at least temporary right?

Lori, I think it's a good idea for you to take it easy...so far Kylee has shown no pain...and no abscess like the last time. Poor Chester :( Maybe they will have a different med he can take? That would be great, teaming up with a photographer, your videos are wonderful. :).

Hi to Josie, Judy & Valerie,

Take care,

Good morning. we hiked yesterday, very nice and quiet. 7 hours RT. I was pretty tired after. my right knee bothers me a lot lately. Ok though this morning. a lot of very very steep sections I would prefer not to do, but gotta come down what you went up. .

I'm not a prude about language but in some things the eff bomb is half the dialogue. tedious when it's so over used that the characters say almost nothing else. totally boring and annoying! Deb, Californication had the main guy jumping into bed with people right and left. just like the over used eff bomb, that gets ridiculous pretty quickly too. Like he'd be eyeing some girl in the next car at a stop light, and the next scene they're in the sack together? I mean, really? again, I don't think I'm a prude but too much skin and "graphic" stuff is a turn off to me. makes me a little ill.

wish I'd liked the gel shots but no, not even a little. Nuun drink tabs come in some flavors that have a little added caffeine, but not much caffeine for a large volume of liquid.

Lori... Hope Chester has some choices. hope he's feeling better.
for all dog owners.. how often to you worm them? My sister is complaining about her dog eating a lot and still being quite thin. I asked if they'd wormed her at her recent vet visit .... poor dog was totally unvaccinated. seems it wasn't mentioned. I would think that would be an obvious thing for an unvaccinated adult dog? my sister doesn't have any money so she wasn't looking to spend more but that seems awfully basic to be overlooked.... unless it was done and she didn't notice it on the billing.
Seattle has gotten ridiculous about parking too. I don't go anymore because it's so difficult and expensive...unless the business has guaranteed parking. it's a big deal when they build high rise apartments/ condos and don't have to build in parking, as there is so little street parking anymore. it's hard to believe this the same place I moved to and loved in 1975. packed, congested, expensive.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did AT (56:00).

Valerie, I know Max was wormed as a puppy, but I don't recall that being repeated on an annual basis. Where did your sister get her dog? I thought shelters made sure dogs were completely vaccinated before adoption.

Wow, as soon as we got to the top of Greylock yesterday evening the storm came in. It was very dramatic but short-lived. Lovely dinner up there and enjoyed the time with our friends.

Deb, this exhibition continues until September 27. I'm not sure what will be next. In my profession bad language is practically non-existent.

Lori, those are long hours. I can understand being too tired to work out. Crossing my fingers for Chester.

Valerie, I guess parking is bad everywhere. Even our little town when it gets packed with tourists.

Had my flu shot today and this afternoon is a trim and highlights.

Hi,

The original vet took a look at Kylee's supposed fractured tooth this morning, and she said it is nothing to worry about. I don't know if the younger vet is just being overly cautious or if in vet school now they train them to make sure they "drum up" business in any way they can. Excuse my cynicism.

Lynda, the same thing at my company...no foul language at all....it was grounds for being written up...as for the profession in general, it depended on where they are, and who they are speaking with. Nothing like how they were in Catastrophe. That just made me cringe.

Valerie, nice hike, sorry your knee is bothering you. Does ice help? Like Lynda mentioned, dogs are de-wormed only when they are puppies, unless they end up with some type of parasite in adulthood. But that would be a separate type of treatment.

Later...

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did STS disc 15, Back & Biceps, and 2 segments of Core Max. I am feeling it today, but I really needed to get the extra core work in. I feel like I've been neglecting core and ab work since I started STS.

Deb-I like KCM's Cardio Pump. That's one thing I miss while doing STS, I'm not really doing any of the other strength workouts that I like. Maybe I can start adding some back in for cardio and using light or no weight.
I must really be out of touch with the mainstream, as I don't even know what Catastrophe is. I'll have to look it up on Amazon.

Valerie-I didn't do any 1 rep maxes either. Maybe if I do STS again I will do that. I like the longer rest period (1 minute) in meso 2, but not sure how I will like the longer ones in meso 3.
I'm sorry you didn't like the gels. I guess they do seem a little like toothpaste :) I've been using them for so long I think of them as another food group..

Lynda-It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend! That is so awesome that your son's girlfriend is doing the NY Marathon. That is one marathon that I would have loved to have done.

Lori-I hope you aren't getting sick. It sounds like you have a very hectic schedule right now, so it's good to rest a little.

Josie-Glad to hear that you won!

My sister bought the dog from a private party who owned german shelpherds. she( previous owner) showed them at dog shows. I know all shelters sell only vaccinated, microchipped animals. this dog is 6.5 yo female, not vaccinated as far as anyone can show. not even rabies. It's beyond me you could have no proof of vaccination (not even microchipped) and take the dog a to various states mixing with other dogs in a show setting.
I had to worm my dog annually because he ate things he shouldn't have. just when you think they're almost human, they eat something unthinkable. if they bite a flea, tapeworms get transmitted this way... part of the flea tapeworm lifecycle. dogs/ cats can end up with tapeworms. flea control wasn't very good 25 years ago. also dogs eat grass, lick their feet and their butts, and everybody elses, so it's possible to pick up worms like this. I don't know offhand how all worms are transmitted but I thought 'worming" was like vaccines, and regularly done. I read puppies are born with worms, transmitted from their mother transplacentally so that's why puppies are routinely wormed. I don't think all dogs get all possible worms out in the world, but tapeworms are common. My cat is preventively treated for fleas monthly but has gotten tape worms so he gets wormed maybe 2x a year. it's a dab of liquid on the back of the neck, nothing traumatic. similar to flea treatment. Whatever. I thought a vet clinic would automatically treat a skinny unvaccinated dog for worms "generically".

Judy I'm glad I tried gels but the mouth feel really put me off. oh well, ruled those out!

Josie, I must have missed whatever you posted but congrats on winning again.

Good morning & Happy Friday,

Yesterday I did RW/HIIT Chest, shoulders & triceps, with the core sessions instead of "finishers".

Lori, feeling any better? have you stayed home from work at all?

Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?

Take care,
