Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 9/3/2023

Good morning. Today I did 20 minutes of yoga.

Judy, thanks for starting us off this week.

Cathy, great job with Standing Abs Core plus Floor and Total Body Stretch. The pesto is so good that I plan to find a use for some of it before it goes in the freezer!

Diane Sue, I hope that you are feeling a little better.

Hello to Valerie. Have a wonderful day everyone.

LOVE LOVE pesto! we had it last night. I made a recipe from Skinny taste that I thought was great but DH thought was bland. weird, I'm usually that person. creamy roasted zucchini pasta. the leftovers got a little pesto added and mushrooms and it disappeared. I keep a container of basil on my deck all summer. even if I don't have enough to make a large recipe of pesto, adding some fresh basil to bought pesto amps up the flavor. I love snipped fresh basil on grain salads. if its right outside the door it gets used a lot more. I have more in our main garden but that's a longer hike. it is easy to grow. as long as you keep snipping it, it lasts a long time. I've had this going since I think May.

yesterday I did therapy work, then x train abs, and several sets of curls, dips and tricep push ups. this morning we rode our usual trail 15 miles and 1 hour 15 min. looks like rain or at least showers this afternoon. ok with me, need to hit the grocery too.

Very Muggy here and over 80 by mid-morning. Yuck. I did Giant Sets this morning and after the first round, I had to back off a bit on some of the weights. Was still a big sweaty mess.

Caroline good job with the yoga!

Valerie great job with the therapy work, then x train abs, and several sets of curls, dips and tricep push ups and trail ride.

Today I did All Out Low Impact HiiT, floor and step cardio. That was 33 minutes and 237 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 155.

Valerie, nice job with therapy work, XTrain Abs, biceps and triceps, and your 15 mile ride. I love pesto too. I didn’t plant any herbs this year and I miss having them handy.

Cathy, great job with Giant Sets today.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

Today I did a 45 minutes of Peloton strength and core work. I also went for a walk with Chris. He is ready to slowly get back into exercise now that he is almost completely recovered from his surgery.

Cathy-Great job with Standing Abs Core Plus Floor and Total Body Stretch and Giant Sets. It was very hot today. I think we have a few more days of this then the fall weather will be here.

Carolyn-Great job with yoga and All Out Low Impact HiiT, floor and step cardio.

Valerie-Great job with your therapy work, XTrain Abs, biceps, triceps and bike ride.

Diane Sue-I hope you and your husband are feeling better.

This morning I did STS 2.0 Upper Body 1 timesaver, 1 set only. That was 51 minutes and 219 calories burned. Average heart rate 115 and maximum heart rate 146. I didn’t want to do pull ups and chin ups so I did the dumbbell options.

Judy, great job with the Peloton ride and core work. It’s wonderful that Chris is starting to feel like getting back into exercise.

Hello to Cathy, Valerie, and Diane Sue.

did therapy work yesterday and several sets of curls but not much else. easy day. this morning we took my car in for a repair that turned out to be too $$$. anticipated this might be the case so were prepared . bought a new car this morning. my old car is 2004 and has a head gasket leak. $4000 to fix. not going to happen! will use the new subaru for our main car. I will inherit the 2018 Subie. this made more sense than buying me a new car instead. I dont drive that much. not a lot of mileage shopping and medical. we will have two travel worthy cars again. my old one was too old to drive on big trips. not what had been planned for the morning but it was surprisingly decent experience. will get it this afternoon since we found one that fit our needs on the lot. we started looking sunday. ruled out toyota and honda. could not get a suitable model with a power passenger seat. manual ones surprisingly don't go up/down, just forward backward and different tilts. in newer cars I absolutely need that. I'm not getting taller and tired of sitting down in a hole. we got the idea sunday that we cant get by without the better level accessories anymore. some cars dont have a power passenger seat as an option at all. so we are happy and feel like we paid a reasonable price and it was a very smooth process from start to finish. not a lot of models to choose from since the 24's are just starting to come in and most of the 23's are gone. seems like the design emphasis is on things for way taller people than I ever was, which
was never tall. .

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. That was 27 minutes and 178 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 166.

Valerie, congratulations on getting another car. I would have done the same if faced with a large repair bill.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

carolyn this was definitely not planned. I hoped my car had a fixable problem. it was a very small leak but we didnt like where it was and felt we needed it checked. we'd hoped for another year or so use before buying new but fate didnt work out like that. this ended up better because we didnt agonize over which model, color, kind of car but went with what we know works for us and bought a new ( for us) color off the stock on the lot. power seat limited the choices. I never felt this was necessary in the past but cars are getting much bigger. I am very close to my original height, lost an inch but cars and trucks are much much bigger than they used to be. my old car was not worth much.

So, my yesterday was interesting. I woke up about 1 a.m. and was awake for hours, more about that earlier. Because of the holiday it was zoo day and I also went to visit my parents. Managed all that before coming home and crashing though I did not nap. Went to bed before 8:30 and set something to watch with an hour timer. Overall I got almost 9 hours sleep, though while it say I was in light sleep, I think the first hour was more dozing. This morning I did IMAX 3 Intervals and Chair Yoga.

So, I have no issues sharing the house with spiders, but there are limits to my tolerance. So, during the 4 or so hours I was awake in the middle of the night I was reading on my iPad Kindle app. White screen, black letters. And along the bottom of the screen scurry legs. Now these legs were clearly spider legs. So, I made a swipe off that side with my hand, turned on the light, and left in on. No sign of my friend. A few minutes later it comes up off the front of the bed, and I swipe it off again. This time though I could see if was a wolf spider, of which I normally have a weird fondness. Sort of like my liking of stink bugs. You can all roll your eyes, my family certainly does. Anyway, a few minutes later it comes up on the long side of the bed that's open to the main area and it heads up my arm. And that's it, so I swipe it off, and dive over the side of the bed after it and start shooing it across the floor to the other side. I'm sure it would have been vastly entertaining to see. And it did work as it didn't come back. But, when I went to fling myself off the bed, I got a major cramp in my left calf. I do not get cramps normally, so I was concerned it was more than a cramp. I moved it around and hoped I'd actually be able to walk at the zoo. However, by the time I got up it was okay, just a bit sore.

Valerie I'm glad you were able to sort out your car situation. Weird that the Toyota seats didn't adjust up or down. My 2019 Yaris has a manual lever on the front of the seat that moves the seat up and down, so does DH's Corolla.

Carolyn great job with All Out Low Impact HiiT, STS 2.0 Upper Body 1, and KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix.

Judy good job with the 45 minutes of Peloton strength and core work. I'm glad Chris is progressing well with his recovery. Did you get any of the rain that moved through the state today? We just got light to moderate rain. And Yay the hot temps are behind up at least for the next couple weeks.

Cathy I thought car seats used to go up and down. maybe a tactic to force people to upgrade to a more expensive electronics? we wanted to look at a Prius but none to be seen. we looked at a Rav4. they had no stock. when we looked at Tacoma (truck) 2 yrs ago I could not get a reasonable height adjust even on drivers side although we owned two T. tacomas in the 1990's and the size was fine then. we've owned two Corollas in years past and they were fine then too, tho I dont remember how the seats worked. lot of vehicles have manual or power feature for driver side but not for the passenger side. ... unless you get the fancier electronic package. the honda CRV was the worst in how low the passenger seat was. it had a rear seat so high I could not even see the rear window much less anything beyond. stock was not good because '23's are gone and 24's are not in yet. anyway we are happy with our new car. its a nice color somewhere between army green and bronze that is a nice change for us. we like subarus and have good luck with them.

cathy we get what we call wolf spiders. they are huge. tend to show up near water like bathtubs and sink and shower drains. I'm not so accommodating.

I am feeling quite a bit better today. I did CDorner stretch/mobility for low back and hips which is a long one. All of the lying and sitting around was starting to make me hurt. This was 43 minutes and helped a lot. Hoping to get moving a little now. I am still coughing, but more the allergies than anything else. Hope it settles before the bronchoscopy.

Cathy, you story about the spider is too funny. Nice work on I Max 3 intervals and chair yoga.

Carolyn, nice work on KCM Cardio Quick Fix.

Judy, nice work on the Peloton Strength and Core and Walk with Chris. I am glad he is feeling better and able to get some movement in again.

Valerie, I do dislike seats that make me feel like I am sitting way down in a hole trying to peek out. My little car has huge windows I can see well. Sometimes it is just not worth the cost to fix a vehicle.

Yesterday I walked about 3 miles and today I did 50 minutes of Peloton rides. Chris is ready to go back to the gym so I’ll probably be doing some strength training there this week. He’s going to start out light and stick with machines at first.

Carolyn-Great job with STS 2.0 Upper Body 1 timesaver and Cardio Quick Fix, workout one.

Valerie-Congratulations on the new car! Even though it wasn’t planned, it’s really nice that you got one that you like. It sounds like a good one.

Cathy-that is funny about the spider. We did get some rain today. It looks like we will have some nice fall weather for the rest of the week and weekend.

Diane Sue-I’m so glad you are feeling better. Nice job with CDorner stretch/mobility for low back and hips.

rode our 15 mile route this morning an hour and twenty. taking our friends to lunch today for the terrific boat tour they gave us about 2 weeks ago. ended up being too late to do it immediately after. will do therapy work later. showing off our new car. they are subaru fans too and have one. extremely popular cars in the northwest because they fit our weather issues well and are medium price range with lots of dealers.

judy great chris can get back to the gym already. always best to underestimate your abilities since you cant tell what might get sore. we were iffy about the color but it looks different in different lighting. we dont get dark colors because they always look dirty from road spray. will see how this color works.

diane sue welcome back. my old car had great visibility. the new one is not as good but ok. some of that relates to sitting high enough to use it right. this car has a lot of sensors and cameras too. I am about 5'2" on a good day. my torso is short. I sit lower than expected. my car was worth only a teeny bit more than the repair costs so fixing was not reasonable at all.

This morning I did Lower Body 1, 1 set only, which was 35 minutes and 107 calories burned. My average heart rate was 102 and maximum heart rate was 126. I did P30 Extended Stretch to finish out.

Cathy, your adventures with that spider sound hilarious. Great job with IMAX 3 and Chair Yoga.

Diane Sue, so glad that you’re feeling somewhat better. The CDorner stretch and mobility sounds like just the right thing for gentle activity.

Judy, nice job with walking 3 miles and doing 50 minutes of Peloton rides. That’s great that Chris is ready to go back to the gym.

Valerie, I’m sure that having lunch with your friends and showing off the new car was fun.

Have a nice day everyone.

Today was shopping so no workout.

Diane Sue glad that you are feeling better. Good job with CDorner stretch/mobility for low back and hips.

Judy great job with the 3 mile walk and 50 minutes of Peloton rides.

Valerie glad you were able to get in a good ride and meet your friends for lunch. The wolf spiders we have are by far our biggest spider, I don't count daddy long legs (harvestman) because there's nothing to them. Even though they are our biggest, the are rarely more than an 1" and then it's mostly legs.

Carolyn great job with Lower Body 1.

I did STS 2 Tri Sets this morning. Not sad it's the last time it's in this rotation. :D Hoping to have everything packed tomorrow night, and I'll just need to grab stuff out of the fridge and go Sunday morning. Hoping to be out of here by 5:15 and get up there by 12:30. That early I may be able to get 3 hours before I stop. Normally I've had too much liquid to do that! Switching wardrobe over to fall. Only going to be a day here and there when I'll need lighter and definitely not on the trip where the highs are 60-62.

No workout today. I had to take care of a business issue and run a couple of errands.

Cathy, nice job with STS 2 Trisets. I know what you mean about seeing the end of it on the rotation.

Hello to Judy, Diane Sue, and Valerie.
