Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 9/28

I seem to be getting alerts again......I had everything checked off so maybe a few details got lost in the shuffle..... there was a big change with IE at almost the same time that just showed here up this morning.
I also went back to the blue color. the orange looked washed out. thanks for the tip Lori. Beautiful gym too.

I did burn sets bis & tris along with core 1 yesterday. Judy, even if you let abs slide for a couple weeks, IMO they snap faster than most other areas ...of course there will be a little DOMS to deal with on the way. It's hard to keep all parts equally worked... I do so much leg work but I'm still aware that all the mt, road biking and hiking will not keep me prepared for Cathe's leg work. just different somehow.

Hi Ladies,

The 40 mile ride was fun last Saturday. It was nice to see my ALC family. Today I will be doing body pump and 20 minute cardio on the elliptical. Tomorrow I plan to go spinning. My knee is fine now, but will wait another week before I try running again.

Lori, your workout area looks great!

Garance, are you working on a new sewing project?

Valerie, you do workout you legs a great deal. No need for Cathe :)

Hi to Deb and Judy!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Dancin' Abs (58:00).

Deb, this was already the second episode on Sunday of The Good Wife. Good luck on the retirement planning. You are so ready for it. Is Scandal by any chance on Amazon Prime? I think this is the third year, and the first seasons were very good, so if you are looking for recommendations and it is available, you might like that series.

Josie, I have been knitting lately more than sewing. I have two projects currently. Now that your knee is better, will you be trying a shorter run?

Lori, you brave soul! I would hate to have a mirror in my workout space. I know it's supposed to help you perfect your form, but I would probably be unhappy with the way I look while working out.

Judy, the Bowen workouts are both pretty long--76 min. and 73 min.--but they look very easy to break down into shorter workouts. The final stretches are both pretty long--13 min. and 10 min.

Off to get my eye exam this afternoon. I am so glad it's cloudy today, because sun hurts so much afterward.

Hi to Valerie!

Good evening ladies!

This morning was R fast slow burn circuit and tonight was cathe live hardstrikes on the heavy bag.

Deb...the only thing I can think of is I emailed the picture to me from my phone it asked what size and I chose medium. Then uploaded from my computer. Perhaps by changing the size reduced the overall megabites too. Tomorrow I will just post a picture from my computer (one that I have not reduced) and we'll see what happens.

Valerie...I am still not getting notifications. I have everything checked but I get nothing. Perhaps I will uncheck everything tonight then check it all back tomorrow.

Lynda...I am still getting used to the mirrors. At first it was really weird but I do like checking my form and I have found on some things my form is not what I thought it was. When I workout the mirrors are to my side so I am not looking at myself the entire time. Don't think I could deal with that! I have my eyes checked and dilated every year so I know exactly what you mean. I wait a while before I drive and I have really dark prescription sunglasses so this helps. I pretty my wear them most of the day at work too.

Judy...yes Bowen's dvd's are long but they are in segments so you can easily pick and choose depending on time. I find the bootcamp one a little tougher. I love her streaming too! Again HC intimidates me!

Josie...great job on the ride. Glad the knee is better too.

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

Even though I am off today, I can't sleep past 4:30. Keegan started walking around at 4:30, so I was up by 4:40. **yawn**.

Valerie, I agree with Josie, if I did the riding and hiking you do I would never touch a Cathe leg workout!

Josie, so you are signed up now to be a worker instead of a rider for the event? Do the workers just follow along in their own cars or is there a bus that keeps everyone together?

Lynda, I checked out Scandal on Amazon, not free, not even the earlier seasons. :(. As much as CBS touts how you can watch full episodes on line, they only keep the most current one up for about 2 days. I see that episode 2 of The Good Wife is up, but episode 1 has been taken down. So aggravating.

Lori, I love having the mirrors in my workout area, and feel strange if I am in some other place like a hotel room and there is no mirror. I think you will get used to it and will miss them when you are somewhere else. It's kind of like being with another person, and not workout out alone. LOL. Yes, when I e-mail pics from my phone it asks the size too. But the first time I downloaded that thumbnail pic, it just did it, not asking the size or anything, now it won't even go to a thumbnail. All come back with an error. maybe I'll ask somewhere here how we are supposed to do them.

Hi to Judy,

Off to the bank at 8:30, will drop by later,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Maximum Intensity Strength. DH is getting back into a gym routine so I went with him last night and rode the recumbent bike while he did a leg workout. They have Wi-Fi at the gym so I was able to stream Cycle Max on my iPhone. I didn't really follow the workout, but it was nice to have something to watch and listen to.

Deb, I agree, I would feel weird working out without a mirror. I like to make sure my form is good, especially for the leg workouts.

Lori-I'm trying the Suzanne Bowen site for a couple of days. Not sure if I will do another streaming membership, but I like how her site is set up. Lots of short segments that could be added onto another workout.

Lynda- I hope your eye exam went well.

Josie-glad your knee is better.

Valerie-Yes, I think with abs and core work it needs to be done at least 2 times a week to maintain. I need to do something like Core Max or Horizontal Conditioning for 20-30 minutes at a time to feel like I am getting something out of it. The past month when I was going to the gym instead of working out at home I was only doing a few crunches here and there for abs and that wasn't enough.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Judy

I like the Core 1 and 2 workouts that are part of the disk for most of Flex train series. I agree, twice a week keeps things toned. I'm considering HC but need ideas for gifts for DH's b-day in November. He might like that one.
we have Coremax but I got tired of it after a few years and didn't feel like I progressed. I don't find crunches very effective .... a few are fine but bigger movements like sit ups and banana crunches feel like they work my mid section better. only did yoga yesterday but we worked hard. today we will do a road ride.
I got thread notifications and I like the darker blue color better.

we are working our way thru #5 of Good Wife. This season seems a little chaotic and less subtle than other seasons. on Hulu plus. Still enjoying it a lot though. no spoilers for season 6 please! we're watching a series called Manhattan that's interesting and unusual.... about development of the nuclear bomb early '40's... although it's branching off in lots of directions with the personal lives of those involved.

Deb..so aggravating...the one morning you can sleep.... you can't anyway!

No mirror in our workout room. I don't want to see myself. No. too distracting and disappointing.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did ch, ba, sh from XTrain (51:15).

My eye exam went well because it was so cloudy. It's even greyer here today and drizzling.

Deb, I guess I shouldn't be surprised about Scandal not being free. It's a very hot show right now. Good luck on the financial meeting!

I'm looking forward to the film Gone Girl. I read the book and the reviews of the film sound pretty positive. I've been reading Matthew Thomas' "We Are not Ourselves," and I honestly don't think I can finish it, despite all of the positive reviews. It's really a downer, and I can't understand why a wife who is also a nurse cannot tell that her husband is heading into the darkness of dementia. It seems pretty clear to me.

Judy, I remember Maximum Intensity Strength. I still have it on video, along with the killer cardio, which literally took my breath away when I did it. She followed step with hi-lo and there's tons of impact. Ah well, not going back there anymore.

Anyone a fan of Eileen Fisher? I am debating getting her cocoon coat. I tried it on the other day and it just looks so chic.

we rode the full 32 mile trail this morning. took almost 3 hours .... some delays for annual brush cutting on the sides. Felt good!

I'm odd man out again... I didn't care for Scandal. pretty sure we watched the whole first season..... didn't hate it but just didn't like it. Has everyone here read "Wild"? I'm re-reading it right now. hope the movie turns out well. it's better the second time. I think I had an idea of what it would be about and it wasn't, and by then I'd skimmed over too much to appreciate it.

I haven't heard of Gone Girl but will look it up. there was a movie I wanted to put on my queue with Toni Colette but I can't think of the name now.

Good evening ladies,

Slept in this morning. My mailroom person is on vacation this week and wednesday we ship to all our resturants so I new I would get a great workout strength wise with all the packing, lifting and moving all the boxes. Came home and did Cathe's Pyramid Hiit which is only 30 minutes and that was plenty for me.

Judy....Wow that is a blast from the past. I have not done Max interval strength in ages. Pretty sure it wiped me out like Lynda said. I'll have to look it up. I get it about the streaming. I have Cathe and Suzanne and that is plenty. I use them both frequently so I justify. I have also had no desire to buy any dvd's which is huge for me!!! After I receive Cathe's new workouts (these were preordered before the streaming) It will be a while before I buy again.

I hit send before I was done..... :)

Lynda...I read Gone Girl too and can't wait to see the movie. I heard Ben Afleck is perfect in it. My DH will not go so I most likely will go by myself! No problem with that for me! I have heard of Eileen Fisher and will look up the coat. It even sounds chic!

Valerie...I love that your DH works out like he does. My DH is sporatic. No consistency whatsoever! One of these days I know he will stick with it.

Deb...surprisingly I slept well this past Sunday. Not sure why. I am sure it was a fluke. I have been waking up at 4:50 for my morning workouts and seem to be back on track with them. During the summer I just wasn't enjoying my morning workouts.

Hi to Judy!!!

image.jpg ok, so I had to figure out how to reduce the size of a picture before it would let me post here. Once i found the photo editor program (Paint), a typical Windows 8 fiasco,
The only problem is that I did it using my pc, not the ipad...and I can't figure out how to find the picture with this...

Good morning,

I woke up at 4:00 and decided to get up and do something rather than try to go back to sleep. I ended up doing KCM's Muscle UP workout.

The meeting with the financial guy went well, now I just have to get up the nerve to pick a date and announce it. It's still pretty scary for me. I am not sure why.

Judy, that is actually Kylee in the picture, :). So you do the Suzanne Bowen workouts right off of her site?

Valerie, if your DH can do HC, he is very fit! You will really like season 5 of The Good Wife, and no spoilers will come from me! I would not read ANYTHING about it though, because you will get spoiled. I don't believe you would be disappointed if you had a mirror in your workout room! You both do so much for fitness, it can't be that bad LOL. Don't they have mirrors where you take yoga?

Lynda, I was able to watch the first 2 episodes of The Good Wife season 6 on my PC off of CBS, however, it will not play on the iPad. Go figure. I hope I can remember to watch it Sunday night in the hotel room in DC.
I really liked the book, Gone Girl.

Lori, isn't it nice sometimes to do some physical work at work, instead of sitting at a desk? It makes the day go by faster as well.

Hi to Josie,

Work, then home to relax. One more day until the weekend, but I go to DC on Sunday so it is not as pleasant as I would want it to be.

Take care,

I have no idea if he can do HC... probably not but sometimes we get his/hers gifts, things we both potentially can use. never truly know about a workout until you get it and try it. I got him several of cathe spin disks and I use them occasionally while he uses them often in winter. I'm not that big a fan of spinning so far. I have posture problems when I stand probably because I never stand to ride on either street bike or mt bike and it slows my rate way down. he has been doing Coremax for years and has to be tired of it but never reaches for the ones I use. so maybe.

wow Deb, I guess you got the picture function to work... just about life size, huh??

DH is doing a hike today but I'm going to yoga. it's a hike I don't like and don't want to do, and I have a bunch of errands that need to get done besides. will check in later,

I guess it's always something..... our kitty is suddenly having pee issues. he is peeing but in small spritzes instead of his "usual" which is noticeable because suddenly the kitty litter clumps are much smaller. so I'm afraid he has a bladder infection or maybe a crystals/stone.. I'm getting ahead of myself a little here but will take him in to be checked this morning. he is a "dry food"kitty and has rejected converting to canned food, which has more moisture. also, he's male and I understand this can be more of an issue for males. so hopefully this will be resolvable without a big deal. I'm not sure of his age ( shelter kitty) but 10-ish. so not that old.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact Hiit with Core 1 (49:22).

Deb, Kylee is adorable! She reminds me of a terrier mix named Clover at a local farm where DH picks up whey for his pigs. Max LOVES Clover and when they get together it is major play time. She is smitten with him as well. If you are watching on Sunday night, the show that comes before, Madam Secretary, is also worth checking out. Because of college football, the schedule on CBS also runs late at times, so consider yourself forewarned. Once again, I sympathize with your retirement anxiety. I had those unnamed tremors as well.

Lori, I think I will really like these workouts by Bowen. The mat section has some good plank work that I think resembles what I've heard about HC. I'm saving these for Sunday mornings when I feel like I can do a longer workout to start the week. I caved on the Eileen Fisher coat. I tried on all my winter coats and feel like I deserve a new one. I really like it. If you go to Eileenfisher.com, you can find it--the cocoon coat in camel. I had a 50 dollar coupon, which was also in my favor. I will see Gone Girl this Saturday. DH is off at a livestock auction all day, so I will go to the afternoon matinee. It's 2 hours and 25 min., another long film. I will probably go to see the Skeleton Twins on Sunday which is at our local art house theater. It looks very good too.

Valerie, I think I recommended Wild to you when it came out because I thought of all the hiking you and your DH do. I really enjoyed the memoir and am looking forward to the movie with Reese Witherspoon. I like Cheryl Strayed's name, made up to fit her wrong turn off the straight and narrow. I hope Puss is okay.

Well, I'm still slogging through "We Are not Ourselves," but now I want the Elena Ferrante trilogy about two female friends. A big piece about her in Vogue, and another in EW, both adulatory.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Hi Ladies,

I'm going to body pump today. Tonight I'm going out with a friend from my old job, so she will bring me up to date as to what's going on there :)

Deb, just take the plunge :). You will not retreat it. When I was working I used to workout at lunch time and it did make the day go faster. Regarding being a worker for ALC, transportation is provided for us. We get everything the riders get such as massages, chiropractor services, yoga and great food :)

Valerie, when I do spinning I do get off the seat, but when I'm outside I mostly sit. By standing up I use different muscles and get an overall better workout on my legs.

Garance, I'm going to go and buy the book Gone Girl before I see the movie. I love that type of stories.

Hi to Lori and Judy!

Josie

Puss is staying at the vet for most of the day to get a urine sample.... not as simple as it is in dogs, not that that is a walk in the park either. I'm not sure what I'm hoping for here .... something not serious. he's been on some "senior" dry food and seemed in fine spirits this morning but the pee pattern was not right and that can go south in a hurry. didn't want to wait until the weekend and have problems.

when I started reading Wild I was expecting a typical PCT "trail log" book. this was different but by the time I figured that out, I'd read (and not paid attention) to a lot of it. DH actually had bought it and said it was good. I am hoping it's a good movie and doesn't focus too much on her "straying" incidents. DH likes to read outdoor adventure books, and also western history books especially the Lewis & Clark times around 1800. he compiles a big order at Amazon and gets a bundle at a time. some are good, some are tedious.

Josie I've resolved to work harder at spinning this winter. my low back and feet get sore and my cadence slows so much it doesn't feel like a workout but I can't go faster in that position. I've tried adjusting the tension without any change. haven't spun for a while and will try to start fresh when I do it. I never ever stand while riding outside, just feels wrong and unbalanced to me.

so for more fun and excitement, I'm defrosting the freezer! that will put me in the right frame of mind to look at the Eileen fisher cocoon coat.

Garance, I love the cacoon coat. It is beautiful and I also liked some of her classic pieces. I have a closet full of jackets and coats that I have collected over the years but can't wear them as often as I would like here in Los Angeles.
