Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 9/2

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Gym Style back, bis, sh (50 min.).

Josie, it sounds like great advice, but as my mother was fond of saying, "you can lead a horse to water . . . ." Sounds like a vasectomy would be an excellent way to limit more damage. It would be a financial burden to have two ex-wives with children to support.

Deb, that sounds like a good weight workout. After I do the whole thing a few times, I may try that premix.

Valerie, if you are serious about stir-fries, you should have a gas stove. I have a six-burner Thermidor, and I love the burners--hard to explain, but they are different.

Deb, I only did Travelfit a couple times, but I remember it being kind of easy--maybe a perfect workout on vacation.

Good for you Joan! If you were doing STS, you would only be doing weights 3x per week, and once for every muscle group, so you are fine.

Hi Ladies,

Getting ready for a staff meeting ;( these meetings are so boring because they go over things that have been talked about at other meeting that we have all already attended.

I will be going to a body sculpting class tonight at the new yoga studio. I’m still doing P90X, but just the weight training portion.

Deb, my DD got her degree in communications. Not too many opening right now, but something will come up.

Joan, that sounds like a good plan.

Garance, I love stir fry sounds delicious!

Valerie, the only things that saddens me about my DS’s situation is that I will not be
a close to my new grandsons live as I am with the other two ;( I feel that his wife will use them against us.

Josie

Lynda a gas stove would be lovely... hotter, more consistent heat. oooohhh 6 burners!! I'm drooling. electric ones cycle on/off all the time. I haven't had gas ANYPLACE since I lived at home in 1967. every single place has been electric. apartments, houses all electric. we don't have a gas line in this area at all. never been a possibility. I used to have a gas barbecue but it got old and died so not there either. I wanted to buy another barbie this year but DH didn't want to so I let it slide.

Josie, maybe she will wise up and be a participant in her life but if she's 23 with 2 children and still acting like one herself, well... it does not look good. Hope your son keeps on track and isn't dragged down by her.

Deb won't the place your going to have a DVD player? take a laptop? but then, I don't imagine you want to drag gear along. the only disk I know of that needs no equipment is Kick, punch, crunch. when I go somewhere I like to do something I don't do at home, for a change of pace.

Good morning,

I decided to sleep in this morning, an extra hour was needed. Well the download was really easy, and it plays well on the iPod. I am not sure if the cabins have a DVD player, they have a TV mounted up on the wall near the ceiling, that you can see in one of the pics on their site.

Josie, I am sure that your DD will find something. I hope your DIL is smarter than that and does not take that road. So sad for kids, to be used like that and not to be close to their grandparents.

Valerie, I love guacamole, but do not see what is so great about eating plain avacado. To me it has no flavor until you put all the spices etc in it. Yes I guess I could take DH's lap top, but like you said, don't want to drag all kinds of extra stuff along.

Garance, I actually burned more calories with this workout, ( the KCM pre-mix without the cardio breaks ) than with either of the regular played ones, and it was only 5 minutes longer. I like the pre-mixes on this one a lot. How is the cardio DVD? what types of cardio moves does she do? I don't own any of her pure cardio workouts. Yes, Travel Fit is kind of easy, but I do remember getting DOMS from it.

The dog show trial is all weekend, so I will be there both days for long hours. Then we drop off the dogs on Sunday night, and are on our way early as possible Monday. I think it's a 4 hour drive.

What is everyone else doing this weekend?

I love guacamole but seldom have it. I have a green salad almost every night with vinaigrette. on top 1/4 of an avocado with pieces of toasted walnut, about 2 walnut halves. sometimes I add tomato or cucumber. I love the texture and flavor of avocado. I could ( but don't) sprinkle on a little salt and eat it with a spoon out of the shell. I've always adored it every since I first tasted it. luckily DH likes it too. it's funny because I usually like intensely flavored food but avocado is an exception.

what has happened to ketchup? I used to like it but the last couple years the regular plain old Heinz ketchum has changed....it's so sweet I can't stand it. I'm not sure if my tastes have changed or if the ketchup has.

Let it go with just yoga yesterday. she had us try handstands yesterday but I could not do one. can't get over the big fear factor of having all that weight over my head on only my hands. maybe next time.

we are packing for our vacation. still not sure where we'll go because weather and fires are a factor. here, we haven't had any rain in 50 days (almost a record) but will probably rain sunday a little. things are very dry so it sounds good.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did the low impact premix on To the Max (39 min.).

Valerie, we actually had a gas line put in for this stove, and a local gas company brings a new tank when it starts to run out. We have a big two-shelf Weber gas grill that I love for everything. When the veggies are done, put them up on the shelf and move on to the burgers, shrimp, chicken, steak. Summer without a grill would not be the same. I love when DH does his pulled pork or beer can chicken. I love avocado too and usually put a few slices every night on our salad, although it's sometimes a struggle to get them to ripen properly.

Deb, we're going out Saturday night to a Mexican restaurant that re-opened because of popular demand. It was really good, but the owners wanted to retire and did for about 3 years. Really glad they decided to re-open. Going to a film on Sunday. That's about it. I really liked the cardio KCM. The first routine is low impact and she builds on the moves, so there's TIFTing, but I didn't mind. A lot of her cardio is building, I think. The second routine (I did them back to back) is more intense, but the modifier does something with less impact.

Josie, I know from your posts how much you enjoy your grandchildren. If she doesn't want to give you some time with them, everyone loses. Maybe she will mature and see how selfish this is.

Hi to Joan!

Good morning,

Big storm here this morning, lightening etc We can use the rain, but for a dog show, it's a real pain. Nothing like having to stand outside waiting for your dog to do it's thing before going into the ring and being soaked when you go in. Ugh. I feel for the people that are showing today.

Garance, what is TIFTing again? Wow, I can't imagine going back to work after being retired for 3 years. They must really have loved what they did.

Valerie, I can say that thinking about it, I only really ever used ketchup on french fries, never on anything else. I bet it's your taste buds that are now more sensitive to sugar. Although I firmly believe that food makers sneak as much sugar as they can in food because it's addicting, and it makes people want more of the food. I love using the grill outside, so easy and not a lot of clean up.

Hi to Joan & Josie,

Off to get ready, have a good day everyone!

We've been so careful with lower body because I didn't want to injure my knees. So we have slowly increased weight and reps until Thursday. I wasn't sure I could make it up the stairs yesterday. The doms really hit hard.

Last night was a spaghetti supper at Elliot's school for grandparents. A pretty strong thunderstorm came through just before we were to leave but slowed down. I was much more impressed with her teacher and room than some of the other kindergarten or first grades. Dil had asked for an advanced room so Elliot wouldn't get bored.

Football starts tomorrow. It's a 3pm game so we will probably go out to eat before. They closed our favorite restaurant downtown so I don't know where we will go.

Joan

I would have been an easy one to convert to gas but I honestly don't know how that could have happened. I think I've seen huge propane tanks outside some homes but never was offered that as an option. I think adding on "after" would be costly. with all the water here, hydropower makes for cheap electricity so that's the "standard". I still would like to get a gas barbecue. the big deal when we were building this house was the plans wpuit the cooktop on the island and I nixed that one! I put an extra small somk on the island and the cooktop against a wall, works much better. I wanted the island for a prep area not hogged by a cooktop.

I looked at my ketchup ....I swear it's sweeter than it used to be. maybe high fructose corn syrup tastes sweeter? whatever it is, I don't like it. their tactics won't work on me.
French fries? what's a french fry? Haven't eaten those in 30 years ....or more.

Good luck on the doggie events in the rain. we may get rain on sunday for the first time in 50 days .

I did the next STS disk.. #27 I think. I decreased weight slightly on a couple moves because this is the area and exercises where I might have injured my shoulder 2 yrs ago.

Joan, I hear you on DOMS. the hike we did wed really got my legs sore. I've been working them regularly, but uphill/downhill is different than pedaling on a bike. I usually am sore for 2 days so today is pretty normal again.
I look up restaurants ahead online and make sure their menu will have something I can eat without severe consequences. it takes some spontaniety out of it, and I've avoided places that don't have anything I'll eat.
