Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 9/14

Good morning ladies!

No workout yesterday. I had a drs appt in the morning then swung by the office to pick up our new iphones. Yes we were one of those insane people that got up at 3am to order them last week. Once I got them I then needed to buy all the crap that goes with a new phone...cover, chargers. It is ridiculous. Then if this was not enough I upgraded my ipad. They gave me $300 off if i traded in my old phone and old ipad. I have been wanting a new ipad so figured this would be the most I would get for my old stuff so what the heck....another cover and more charges. Hot dogs and beans for the next two months for us!

With all the running around I did manage to take chester for a walk.

Deb...wow tons of traveling and waiting for only one day. I would have cried if I did not have my kindle or ipad with me.

Lynda...yesterday was a beautiful day for your ride. Bet the views were awesome. I have the 2 last episodes scheduled to record of the roosevelts. Hoping the others will repeat so I can grab those.

Valerie...well your DH should at least look on the bright side that you did not have to buy 2 new bikes! Stinks though spending the money to fix them.

Josie...great your knee is feeling better. Running outside is so hard on the joints. It's treadmill only for me when I run.

Judy...good to hear things will soon be back to normal for you and your DH. You both need time for yourself to heal after what you have been through.

Have a great....going to once again try Cathe's live from this past thursday.

we started watching an episode of the rooseveldt and DH is watching more on his computer this morning. all 7 episodes are on pbs.com for free. go to pbs.com and then videos.
I swear the history you know least is what happened just before you were born and early child hood. we never covered it in school. we spent so much time on the revolutionary war and civil war, in class we got to around 1900 so I always feel ignorant, especially about ww1 and ww2. never got a basic "framework" in place in my brain, never mind details.

Deb, there are so many video conferencing set ups ( I'm told) , it would seem physically going somewhere for a 90 minute meeting is a huge waste of time and money. Not suggesting this is your decision ....but wastes so much time and energy.

I tend toward puzzles / wordgames to kill time. magazines... it seems like a few years ago there was some content but lately every one is a giant pile of ads and snippets of info, no actual articles.
I need contact lenses for distance vision but close work (reading) is easier without lenses. I can use reading glasses but my eyes get tired and I don't like to take my contacts in and out in public places... what if I lost or tore one! at home I don't bother with lenses unless I'm going somewhere.

Lori ... details... our 2 yr contract is close to over on our android phone. we like the ipad so much we will probably switch to an iphone. stunning how much extra gets spent on chargers, cases, and other add ons? I've looked for a case for the ipad that would keep it from being so slippery on my lap. we have a logitec magnetic keyboard that attaches but I don't use it when driving(passenger). the ipad itself is hard to keep in place and none of the cases I've seen will hold the ipad plus keyboard. apple didn't have anything so it must be an odd issue. I wanted a case that would hold both but non slippery.

I think someone asked how streaming is going and I forgot to answer. It's going well. there is much more to watch on hulu plus than there was on our previous cable. we still get Netflix mailer disks and will continue because we need the physical disk when we are traveling. after another month we may try Netflix streaming to compare. hulu + is 7.99 a month and I think Netflix is about the same. dropping the cable saves us about $100 a month plus we have more / better choices. the antenna for local channels works pretty well. the 3 main channels don't always come in clearly but it varies. sometimes all 3 are fine, sometimes one or two. can't tell if it's wind, trees, or variation in the station's signal, but it's workable.

we're going off again for a week so not sure if I will check in for a while.

Loved Cathe's Live class from this past Thursday. Great workout. Now I am off to take chester for a walk.

Valerie...i do not use the logitec keyboard but know of it. When I was at verizon yesterday she did show me a few cases and one of them had the keyboard. Not sure how it works together though. We like a well padded case especially at the corners. When we first bought ipads we had the thin apple case and DH dropped his and smashed the glass to pieces. $300 later he had another. After that we tossed the apple cases and went searching on Amazon. You can get a decent one for little money. The one I bought today was only 10.99 plus $5 shipping. Substantially less than Apple's! I paid about the same price for the old one and it protected mine very nicely.

When I get it I will let you know my thoughts and if It is a keeper I'll send you the link.

Oh...most important...if you love your Ipad you will love an Iphone. Pretty much the same thing but smaller. Makes the learning curve easier. A few years ago we went from Android to Apple and are very happy with our choice. We both bought the 6 and it is a good size for us. The 6plus is over kill for a phone. To get the full use of both you should set up an Itunes account and sync both to it. Can you tell I am an Apple fan?

Lori, I'll sound dumb here because we haven't had the ipad very long and I forget what number it is ( 16 gig) and it's packed already. it's not an "air".

They didn't have cases at the apple store. I looked at amazon and Best Buy. with all the sizes and models I got hopelessly confused... I want a protective case to hold the ipad/ keyboard separately or apart.
If home, I use the keyboard. traveling use the touch screen. would be lovely if I found a simple case that reduced "slippery" so I could place the ipad on my lap in the truck while tethered to the phone and it didn't feel like a slippery fish. it would be very easy to have it slide and hit the floor!

If you can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. I probably won't answer right away. thanks either way. I think it's 4th gen. not an air or mini. not sure if I want a case or a cover but I don't want another keyboard. sometimes I think i'll just Velcro a couple non slip pads on the back of the case and be done with it.

G Form Extreme Sleeve 2 Hydro Sleeve for iPad 1 or iPad 2 New | eBay

Valerie, we have this one very durable, like a rubber sleeve. no slipping and it really protects the ipad hope the link works.

we got them at Best Buy...they were kind of pricey, but John dropped his first Ipad and like Lori's DH's, the glass shattered. They replace it and he found ou about this type of cover and fot it. Then when he got mine for me, he got the same one. We also have the Logitech keyboard and they fit in the case together. It;s a little tight but after a while, they go in easier.

Deb, I need a case / cover that covers the back while the screen is accessible so I can use it while we're driving.

the link works ... looks very protective, but you would need to take the ipad out to use if I'm looking at this right.... that's my issue. ipad sits on my lap with the phone plugged into it and slides around. nothing stays in place when you're rolling down the freeway. it would not fall far ... but not falling at all would be better.
