Good morning,

this morning I did K-C-M's Your Best Body. It's one of her 30 Minutes to Fitness workouts. These are a little decieving...the workout itself is 30 minutes, but doesn't include the warm up and cool down. You add these on from the main menu. Still pretty good. She does a lot of "non-traditional" weight work. Stuff you never see anywhere else.

Off to help out at an Obedience match we are having at the dog club.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did the 60 min. premix on STS Total Body.

The Joffrey was truly wonderful, and a very long program with three full-length ballets and two 15 min. intermissions. I had not seen the Joffrey since I was a grad student in Chicago, and when I saw them there I was way, way up in the peanut gallery. A gorgeous day, too, although the traffic getting there seemed unusually slow. Are people taking the last week of August off and combining it with Labor Day weekend?

Deb, I think I read over at the Videofitness forum that KCM's workouts should be released on the 28th. I'm looking forward to these. The clips at totalfitness looked really good.

We went out to dinner too last night with our younger son. Great meal--sea bass for me, and compliments of the chef some delicious appetizers. Hope your gift certificate paid for a good meal.

Good morning,

This morning I did the first workout of week 4 of C25K...but instead of jogging or running, I powerwalked during that period. I just don't think running is for me any more. We'll see how this goes.

Lynda, the ballet sounds like it was wonderful. I am also hoping to get the new KCM soon. The meal was ok....DH's fish was great, red snapper.... my chicken was meh..dry..they could have put some kind of sauce on it or something..

The humidity is back and it is awful right now...

Hi to Valerie, Joan & Josie...

take care...

Hi Deb--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets premix with step (47 min.).

Deb, I think you would like the 32 min. step premix on this one. It's similar to the step portion of To the Max and you get some shoulder work, chest, and tris. It's low impact and not as frenetic as the step in Athletic Training.

Nope--my running days are definitely over.

The humidity is building here, too, but it's not so bad. Hey, at least we're not facing Isaac. Last year with Irene was bad enough. I just hope it doesn't hit New Orleans so hard.

Hi Ladies,

I’m back from vacation and am now I’m year older  I had a great time, spent a day with my Mom and Dad. I took Mom shopping and caught up on family things. I also went to several yoga classes and a mat Pilates class that left me sore for a couple of days.

I decided to join the yoga studio which is beautiful and they offer 125 different classes per week. I will continue to do the P90X, but just the weight training DVD’s, the cardio DVD’s were hurting my knees. For cardio I will continue to do spinning.

My running days are also over for me 

I will be back later, have to review my e-mails.

Josie

Good morning,
rest (more like a "try to get more sleep" ) day for me. We didn't end up going to class last night, the house alarm starting screeching that it had a low battery, so DH went to Radio Shack to get one. We figured we'd have time to still go, but when he put it in, it did not stop the error message. We had to call my cousin who installed the system and ended up talking to him for a while. It was fine, the system just needed to recognize that it had a new battery. By that time it was too late to go to the class.

Garance, is that pre-mix the one called "Step Express" ? I never looked at it because I thought it was all step. We got rain almost all day yesterday, and the grass actually turned green in a lot of places!

Josie, Happy Belated Birthday! A nice vacation with family and doing workouts whenever you want, that is my idea of a vacation. I liked P90X weight work, but not his yoga ( an hour and a half!!), or kickbox. The series is great for upper body, his leg workouts are nothing like Cathe's. What do you think about it so far?

off for more coffee and to jump in the shower....take care,

Hi Ladies,

Today I will be spinning. Everyone is back in the office so it will be back to the drama :(
I may need to go to yoga after spinning in order to distress.

Deb, I agree with you regarding the P90X yoga tape, it was to hard for me. I also agree with you on the leg DVD. I will be replacing that one with the PLB and every other week I will be doing ME.

Hi to Valerie, Joan and Garance!

Josie

Hi Deb and Josie--

This morning I did the upperbody premix on High Reps (39 min.).

Yes, Deb, the premix is the Step Express for 32 min. It's mostly on the step, but it's really easy sets. On one set, you do a step up with the right foot, raise 8 lbs. overhead for shoulders, then step down with the left. I think it's 12 times each side. Then you do squats like those in Afterburn while swinging your arms back (no weights). Repeat that set. Another set is to do lunges back and forth on the step, then get down and do triceps dips. It goes by very fast. Did anyone respond to the alarm, or is this just for you?

Welcome back Josie! Sounds like you had a great birthday-vacation. P-90X is apparently what Paul Ryan does to keep in shape. I bet they get a lot of new buyers from his endorsement.

Hi to Valerie and Joan, if you are somewhere in cyberspace!

Good morning,

Well it's Hump Day, so 3 more days and then a nice 3 day weekend. Can't wait.

Went to dinner last night with a bunch of managers and the CEO of our company. The good thing was they picked a restaurant right in my neighborhood, so I was home 5 minutes after leaving the restaurant, no long drive. I am still so tired. I just want to sleep for about 3 days.

We made reservations a a place called Dream Catcher Estates in the Catskills. John will fish, I will read, and hopefully sleep. Accommodations - Dream Catcher Lodge

We got a cabin, not staying at the lodge. It' in a tiny town called Deposit, NY. Just 3 days, 2 nights, the week after next. We need the break.

Josie, did you ever say anything to the noisy co-worker? maybe if you just ignore her, (blatantly so she gets the message) she will stop.

Garance, thanks for the tip on that pre-mix. I will try it out.

Work ( touring the CEO around this morning), then 2 agiltiy classes tonight...another late one for me...

Take care,

I'm back. tedious 4 days. first stopped in Portland to visit aunt in assisted living. she's almost blind and pretty deaf. lost her hearing aid a couple days ago. took it out and it probably got lost in the bedding and likely went to the laundry. she lost her partial bridge like that a year ago when she left it on her dinner tray. she got some meds while we were there and fell asleep while we were talking to her. she did know we were there and was OK at the beginning but things didn't go too well. wow. I hope I die before I get like that. it's a 3 hr drive each way so likely won't be visiting her again. also found out MIL has a big bladder tumor. she just had most of her colon removed a yr ago because of cancer and now is looking at another surgery.
then on to SIL & BIL. they have some health issues too, with the knee replacement coming in oct. ocean was too rough to go out in their boat, so we did a fishing trip on a nearby river. no fish, but saw loads of birds... herons, egrets, osprey, mergansers, sandpipers and two groups of river otters... the best! they are nice and mean well but they get tiring after a few hours. they eat awful food so I have to bring most of ours. we took our mt bikes hoping to ride on the sandy beach at low tide but it didn't work at all. beach is probably too steep and the sand doesn't get firm when the water goes out... it was completely un-rideable, sunk way in and churned around. a flatter beach where the water retreats more might work but we didn't know where that would be, and there's a vast area of beach in OR..

weather was good but a completely inactive 3 days. I got so stiff and sore I couldn't believe it!. got home yesterday and did a fast 10 miles on the bikes just to loosen up. think we will ride somewhere today and get back in the groove. no yoga this week, they close for one week for vacations.

Deb, he looks just like your dogs and is 10 months old. i don't know how to transfer the picture over here.

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did the low impact premix on Crossfire (56 min.).

I have a friend who is obsessed with pigs. She stopped by this morning to go up and take a look at them, but she also brought this hilarious little fuzzy pig. You squeeze its ear and it starts doing a little dance to "Bad to the Bone." Max doesn't know what to think of it--mesmerized.

That looks like a lovely little getaway for you and John, Deb. Are you taking the dogs with you? I don't know if you ever read Vogue, but if you do, in the September issue there is an absolutely heartbreaking account By Ann Patchett about her dog Rose, who had to be put down at 16. A couple pictures of a younger Rose, one of them perched on Ann Patchett's shoulders. Incidentally, Patchett's novels are spellbinding.

Valerie--I agree. I would rather die than live that kind of life. I was going to say like a vegetable, but who knows? Maybe vegetables have their own pleasures and we underestimate them.

Hi to Josie! Let us know how work is going. If we were there, we would probably do an intervention on your co-worker.

Hi Ladies,

It has been a bit quieter around here. I did tell my co-worker that I cared about her and that I thought that she did not value herself enough because she continues to talk to the guy that brings her so much pain. I asked her if she just liked the drama, and she has not told me anything about him anymore. I also told her that the other co-worker had complained about her excessive talking and maybe that is why she has been quiet ;)

I will be doing a core synergistic DVD today. I gained 3 pounds during my vacation :(

Valerie, welcome back!

Have a great day ladies!

Josie

Josie, those were kind and thoughtful things to say but it likely still got the point across gently if she's not talking nonstop anymore. we all deal with stress differently, maybe she just did not realize how much she "went on". I'm one to talk alot but hopefully not to the point where it disrupts others.

did a 26 mile ride today. nice, not great. I have new tires and they seemed to be harder to ride than my old ones.

every september for the last ten years things go bad healthwise for some close family member..... right before we go on vacation. it's getting so I dread sept just because I know something will go wrong. MIL does not have a good prognosis. she is a very nice person , I could not have had a nicer MIL. I hope this is not really awful for her. she does not deserve that. but then, who does?? it may go well, but there are lots of things to not go well. she will likely go ahead with the surgery but they will not be able to get all the tumor and she will need radiation, catheter for a while, etc. we might be going to
CA for vacation, not the original plan, but we'll see how things go.

Deb, that sounds like just what you need. a quiet few days of relaxation. now me, I'd take my bike!

Good morning,

Going in very early today... (5:30)....Good thing is I will leave early and hopefully be home by 2:00..

Garance, not taking the dogs, unfortunately, they don't allow pets there, or I would take them. Have not read that article, which book by that author would you recommend?

Valerie, welcome back! We thought about taking the bikes, ( we still might), not sure if there are trails or just a big highway. Sorry about your MIL, and hope all goes well with the surgery.

Josie, I guess your "talk" with your co-worker must have made her think a bit. Whatever works!

Off to get more coffee so I can stay awake while driving....
coffee.gif

Deb hope there are some trails. I wouldn't take a bike if it was just hwy. where we were last week would seem like there would be places to ride ....but not much. for some reason, very little to ride was set aside despite numerous parks. I won't ride the coast highway 101... at least not during tourist season. very busy. campers with huge side mirrors. drivers looking at the scenery not the road. not a good plan. people road bike it but I would not do it in august.

maybe it's good not to take the dogs. you both will get to sleep in and maybe the doggies will appreciate you morewhen you get back.

DH talked to his mother and it sounds like she will go ahead with the surgery. this is going to be very tough. this buys some time but is not going to be a "cure". DH and I were talking about how bad september always seems to be for both our families.

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did Gym Style Back, Sh, Bis (50 min.).

Good for you, Josie! Maybe your comment about "drama" made her rethink what she is getting out of an obviously destructive relationship. Sometimes people need to know how they look, sound to an observer.

Sorry to hear about your MIL, Valerie. How old is she? My in-laws are 88 and 84 but seem to be doing well for those ages. My FIL still manages to golf almost every day and is capable of doing 18 holes in the 80s.

Deb, Patchett's novels include State of Wonder, The Magician's Assistant, and Bel Canto. Maybe one of them for your trip, or do you already have some reading planned?

ttfn

Good morning,
ended up leaving the office around 3:30. I could not keep my eyes open. Then I tried to take a nap when I got home and it was impossible. The phone kept ringing, dogs jumping around....then I had to drop my car off at 8:30 at the dealer. The "check engine" light came on Tuesday and that was the soonest appointment I could get. So much for taking off and sleeping.

Valerie, keeping your MIL in my thoughts. We kind of decided not to bring the bikes, we'll scope it out this time and if we see there are places to ride, there's always next year. Yes, as much as I know I will miss and worry about the little guys, I am looking forward to some restful sleep.

Garance, I have a book on my Nook I just downloaded from the library, and 3 hard covers I picked up from there yesterday. Of course, I am reading those now so I will probably have to get more before we go. We are only there from Monday -Wednesday. I can't say enough about how I love my Nook. I'll put those book titles on my Reading spreadsheet. I keep track of all the books I have read, and those I want to get. The only way that keeps me from getting the same books. Also nice to keep series in order and check off once you have read them.

One more day and a 3 day weekend!!

Take care,

My MIL is mid 80's... might be 85? not in great shape. mentally she's still very sharp. She can walk to the car and back and that's about it. FIL had a lengthy illness before passing a year ago. never liked him, DH never liked him either. I didn't feel bad when he passed, kind of a relief, actually. but MIL, this will be tough. just like FIL... she refused to get some basic screening tests that both REALLY should have had because of family history. DH ( and others) tried and tried to get them to go but they wouldn't. this is the price.
she had advanced colon cancer ... was having all kinds of synmptoms for years but STILL refused to get a colonoscopy... ended up with a semi colectomy... big chunk of her colon removed. whether this tumor is related no one says. it really doesn't matter. it's a big tumor on the wall of her bladder that will block one ureter( tube that connect one kidney to bladder) needs to be removed down to the bladder wall. then she will need radiation to the bladder to damp down the remainder. this will give her some time but is not a cure. we'll find out more soon as she will be on the fast track.

Did the last disk of meso 2 last night. I won't skip a week in between this and meso 3. meso 2 got dragged out toward the end so I don't feel tired or over worked.

not sure what we'll do this weekend. great forecast so maybe a dayhike and a ride. DH is on call a lot the next couple weeks.. because his work partner is having back surgery but the schedule got tweaked around so often I'm not sure when.

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did the lower impact premix on To the Max (39 min.).

Not sure what we will be doing over the holiday weekend. Another couple talked about getting together, but DH starts refereeing soccer tomorrow and he's still doing second cut hay. I already miss Jacob's Pillow.

Deb, I've thought about getting a kindle or nook, but I love books and I usually just sell them back on Amazon and get at least half of what I paid. It sounds like you also enjoy the record keeping, which I have come to see as one of your personality traits.

Valerie, that surgery does not sound like much fun at all, but if it gives her some time and she can handle the radiation, I guess it's worth it.

I wonder if this will be our last really hot day. It's supposed to get up to 90, but the dewpoint is so low, it actually feels lovely.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I think the surgery itself won't be real bad... sounds like vaginal without an abdominal incision, but the radiation after and an indwelling catheter for weeks might be. it will not "cure" her, but the location of the tumor will block output from one kidney causing huge problems, so it needs to be done. soon. pain and recurrent infections are why she was examined to begin with.

all of a sudden it feels like fall. 40's and 50's at night. and we still haven't figured out where to go on vacation.

I've never thought seriously about an e-reader. I like how books feel and I get tired of reading screens after a while.

Did some serious heavy shopping today. costco. regular grocery store. then the co-op for kitty litter, bird seed, garden cover crop, all weighing at least 25-40 lbs and needing to move a long way.
