Good morning,

Had a nice day yesterday, met my friend for lunch then we went to a couple of nurseries to look for some shrubs for her yard. Later on we did more gardening, and got a couple more rolls of sod in.

Lori, glad you are feeling better. Wow....a 132 mile ride? That is awesome if you can do that. How long does it take? I looked at the clip of this past Thursday's Live workout....talk about impact! Yikes. I may look at Barre Amped again...are there premixes on the DVD? I'm with you on step workouts....do not like them at all anymore. I used to take 3 step classes a week at a gym and loved them...funny how our workouts change over time.

Valerie, I think the DEC or Fish & Wildlife should outlaw the ability to bring any animal parts into the country from that type of hunting and stop it all together. I agree, that guy is a major jerk....( I have another name for those types but won't type it here :))

Josie, Happy August Birthday month!

Judy, LOL about looking forward to Monday...:)...Sometimes I really wish John would get into that mode about the house...right now he is in that mode about getting the garden re-done so I guess it's ok. I ordered the KCM Core DVD....that stair game with Chino looks like good exercise...I'm going to try it with Kylee.

Lynda, how was Jacob's Pillow?

Dawn, good for you for sticking with Tabatacise! Even increasing by 1 minute each time is hard work.

I want to get a weight workout in today, and John is talking about a bike ride so hopefully he will wait until I am done to go so I can join him. Then of course the garden awaits!

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did SB's Bootcamp (68:00).

Jacob's Pillow was excellent yesterday--a very varied program by 4 different choreographers, one of them the inestimable Jerome Robbins (he did the choreography for West Side Story and On the Town. The other choreographers were young and still alive. The rain driving there, however, was horrendous. I was driving thank goodness. One of my friends has had her license revoked for a very minor accident with a cyclist (I really think it was age discrimination because the cyclist was on his phone of all things and he wasn't injured, but she ran over his phone after turning into his front tire.), and the other friend I go with is blind in one eye. DH just wants me to drive all the time, and I think this is best too. I met a friend there too--she went to Rancho La Puerta with me. I haven't seen her in so long because she has been preoccupied with her mother's death. She was in a nursing home in Philadelphia and they sent her to the emergency room because she wasn't able to keep anything down. She had a bowel obstruction created by scar tissue from a hysterectomy several years ago. Apparently the surgical team at this hospital decided that she was too old to do surgery and signed off on her after a preliminary cat scan. The "surgical team," however, never told my friend or her sister that this was their independent decision, so my friend kept pursuing surgery after consulting with her own doctor, who said it could be done by laparoscopy very easily--20-30 min. operation. The surgical team arrived in the emergency room when the nursing home sent her back, and the head of the team walked up to her mother and said if she wanted surgery, it would be open abdominal incision from her chest down and take 8 hours and she wouldn't survive. When my friend asked about laparoscopy, he conceded that might be possible, but he didn't want to do it. Period. My friend decided to arrange sending her to U. of PA hospital, but in the intervening days, they did no intravenous feeding, her mother became comatose, and she died basically of starvation. My friend is trying to decide what to do. She is quite knowledgeable because she worked as a consultant for the NYC hospital system, has written articles on hospital administration for JAMA, and has taught graduate classes on hospital administration for CUNY. She thinks most surgeons are arrogant, but this has absolutely infuriated her. She's not sure what she will do, but she has spoken with a lawyer who believes her mother's age (96, but she has a sister who is 99 and going strong) would lead to a minor settlement in terms of pain and suffering and is not interested. If she writes an article, will she be sued? She thinks patient advocates are largely hospital advocates. I suggested she send a report to the state medical board for some kind of reprimand. Who knows--maybe this is just one of many such cases? I guess what she and I found most disturbing is that it sounded like those "death panels" from Sarah Palin--a surgical team without consulting or even notifying my friend and her sister independently deciding to let her die.

Sorry--I just had to vent. I found this so disturbing. Her mother said, after these surgeons walked out, "What rock did they crawl out from under?" She was sharp as could be and must have had a few more good years.

Deb, I'm trying to figure out why you think a fruit smoothie is high in calories. This morning I had one-half a cup of frozen peach slices, half a cup of frozen wild blueberries, half a cup of frozen sliced strawberries, one container, I guess about half a cup, of activia greek yoghurt at 80 calories, and half a cup of 2% milk. Throw it all in a blender and let her rip. This is definitely no more than 250 calories and it's so thick and creamy, I have to finish it off with a spoon. And it definitely fills me up because it's a big glass. More filling for me than one egg and a slice of toast, my other breakfast. There is no sugar added to the frozen berries and there's a little flavoring in the yoghurt, but I guess if you are intolerant of the sugar in fruit it might cause a problem.

I think that dentist who killed Cecil should be extradited to Zimbabwe and put on trial. Just plain reprehensible, and listening to Jeff Corwin, this may lead to the death of all of Cecil's offspring by another male lion who wants to take over his pride by killing the cubs and pushing the females into estrus.

Dawn, I loved that Macarena cooldown. Like Lori, I don't know where the love has gone for step. I did the two new Cathe ones about 12 times each and decided to sell them. I still have the greatest hits one, but haven't felt the urge.

Judy, I could not get your video to play--some kind of error message. Darn!

Just got back from a mt bike. we went early to avoid the crowds. just under 2 hours with plenty of uphill. everything is busy in august, large group horseback rides at the tree farm. 7 big horse trailers in the parking area when we got back, and each will have several horses. road apples are not that bad dried out, but fresh piles.. a lot of avoidance riding will be going on later today. saw the guy with the dog team, and a few other cycles and runners. more than we ever saw there.

Fruit smoothies can get caloric if you don't watch ingredients, commercial ones especially. I like them but they go away quickly for me while cereal with fruit stays around longer. again, the chewing for me is a factor.

will be very interesting to see what happens to the dentist. I doubt he'll be extradited. I hope he is fined, big time. enough to HURT. revoke his hunting licenses.

the video is so cute Judy... Chino looks like a very playful little guy. our kitty doesn't do that.. he never ;earned to chase and play, and we adopted him when he was likely 1-2 yo. he's more like a little dog than anything.

Lynda, I don't know what could be pursued medically. surely all 96 yo's aren't the same, but most would not tolerate an extensive procedure. I don't know how many surgeons would step up to do anything, but surgeons LIKE to do surgery... that's why they're surgeons. and yep, most are arrogant, IMO. maybe something was seen on the cat scan that made it appear a much more extensive surgery was needed? Not defending anyone here, at minimum there should have been a discussion with family members explaining the situation clearly. who had medical POA ?... I would think they would have been consulted before IV's were stopped.

This might have been done for valid reasons, but the lack of communication is inexcusable. Now everyone is left wondering. DH's grandmother died similarly, but they did take her to surgery and when they opened her up she had tumor everywhere. they closed her up but she never regained consciousness.

Good evening ladies,

Yesterday I did Live Long and Strong Legs followed up with a compilation of Cathe Live Standing Abs. Today I decided to try out the Live Road Trip Kickboxing. I used 1 lb weights as this one looked better off the bag than on. Wow!!! What a workout. I absolutely loved it and will be doing it when we are down the Cape next week. Great travel workout that is total body.

Lynda...that is so sad about your friend's mother. It was hard to read. Can't imagine my mother going through that. Shame on those doctors. Terrible. I do not blame your DH wanting you to drive. We had that rain a lot earlier than you and you are right boy did it come down! I had clothes on the line (love my sheets air dried!) and I brought them in just in time. We had some thunder too. Then before you knew it it was over and done with and the sun was shinning. I then took Chester and Nilla for a nice walk and swim. We all jumped in it was so hot. Chester and I loved it ....not sure about Nilla. Was good for her to cool off though. I dressed prepared just incase I wanted to go in thank goodness!

Valerie.. I agree about the dentist. Made me sick to my stomach what he did. Just horrible. Yes apparently being a Dentist can be very lucrative - our dentist just bought a Bently. Now I know why all the work I had done last year cost as much as it did out of pocket!

Judy...what a cute video! Great wait to get exercise! I wish my DH would get on the home improvement binge. This will never happen I am afraid.

Deb...it is actually 192 miles and it is done over 2 days. I really enjoyed it when I was doing it years ago. Perhaps one day I'll do it one more time. You had asked about the taste of Shakeology and I really like the chocolate alot. The vanilla is good too but I add a tbls of PB2 to it for a better taste. Now to compare to others I have only tried a couple and Shakeology is so much better. I feel like I am drinking a yummy thick shake. We have 4 more bags to go thru and after that I need to decide if I want to continue.

Hi to Josie and Dawn!

Completely forgot to talk about Barre!!

I went on google this morning for HaHa's to see if there were any local Barre Classes around so I could try one out as I have been wanting to actually do a class somewhere. I certainly did not want to have to drive a crazy distance though. We live in a small town so never thinking there would be a place in the center of Town. But yup there is! Who would have thought Westminster would have a Barre studio. There is a yoga studio that recently opened and they also added Barre due to popularity. Well I signed up for a class Thursday at 6:30pm and I can't wait.

Deb...Been I while since I have done Barre Amped and I am thinking no premixes. The way they are structured though they are not needed. Her workouts are sectioned into 3 or 4 targets about 20 or so minutes and you can pick and choose which ones to do. I had 3 of her BarreAmped DVD's and gave away 2 of them. I am looking at her Cardio Fat Burn which is her most recent BarreAmped that I will gladly give to you as I really do not use it and prefer her live classes over her DVD's. Email me your address and it will be in the mail tomorrow!

Ok...I am done now!!! :)

Good morning,

Yesterday I did RWHIIT Back, Shoulders & Biceps. We got a lot of work done in the garden as well , finished laying the sod and put in the edging to separate it from the perennial bed. Whew...glad that parts done.

Lynda, so sorry about how horrible they treated ( or didn't treat) your friend's Mom. I wonder why her regular DR was not consulted and part of this decision. That is scary and sounds like something that may be going on with that team regularly. They need to be reported. Your smoothie sounds very healthy. I can see that being good if it fills you up.

Lori, that Live workout does sound like a good traveling one, and you also have your "Travel Fit Revised" as well. :). I will send you my address. Thanks! Not all dentists are rolling in dough....believe me I know! LOL.

Valerie, I think I read or heard from someone that that dentists practice and everything is falling apart....serves him right.

Hi to Judy, Josie, & Dawn,

Take care,

Good Morning Everyone,

Yesterday I went for a short walk in the morning. The temp got up to 95 degrees. There were bad storms in northern Michigan all day yesterday, then we had a thunderstorm around midnight. We were very fortunate as I've read thousands are without power in Michigan today but we still have ours.
We spent most of the day and evening working on the condo, including 3 more trips to Lowes, Home Depot and Menards. DH wasn't able to get as much done as he wanted, so he will be back at it tonight after work. I'm glad he is so motivated to get things done, but I hope I can convince him to take a break when he goes on vacation later this month. I'd like for him to enjoy the summer outside a little and get some biking or hiking in while the weather is still nice.

Deb-I think you will like the KCM Core dvd. The cats get lots of exercise on the stairs. We have a 3 level condo so they are constantly running up and down stairs. Chino weighs about 13 lbs and seems to want to eat constantly, but he is very muscular and strong. I will probably have to watch his weight as he gets older and becomes less active. Shadow is only 8 lbs and doesn't seem as interested in food as Chino. She eats when she feels like it and is very picky. I don't think I'll have to worry about her gaining too much weight.

Lynda-that is so sad and disturbing about your friend's mother. I agree with Deb that those doctors need to be reported.
I'm sorry you couldn't see the video. I'll check my youtube settings and see if I need to change something.

Valerie-Great job on the mountain bike rides! I really hope DH and I can get some biking in this summer too.
I agree the dentist should have his hunting licenses revoked and be fined. It sounds like he has gotten into trouble before and should not be allowed to hunt again, here or anywhere else.

Lori-Great workouts! I've been wanting to do the Road Trip Live Kickboxing class. Maybe I'll try it this week. There is a barre studio in Ann Arbor and I think there may be one closer, but I haven't tried any classes. I'll have to look into that.

Hi to Josie & Dawn,

Judy

Judy our kitty (Puss) is like your Shadow. weighs 8.5 and doesn't care much about eating except bits of his kibble. won't eat soft food or chicken as a treat. sniffs it, plays with it and then doesn't. He's always been this way and will not have a weight problem. he follows us around like a little dog. he's very sweet. stands on his hind legs sometimes!. he used to be quite the climber and jumper but has settled down n so we don't have to get him off the roof or trees anymore.

we were so pleased with our ride yesterday. there are a lot of trails in the tree farm that we are just learning to use. they close them in winter so they don't get rutted by tires. some are hard but most are in our ability range. the trouble is they don't have maps of the trails so we are learning them gradually as we go along. each ride we try a new section, and yesterday we tried several. Judy try not to let the whole summer slip away without doing some fun things.

I hope the dentists' troubles don't blow over to be replaced by the next crisis of the day. Hopefully this will do permanent damage to his practice. and I hope he gets big fines and loses hunting privileges. Clearly, this guy was making more money than he knew what to do with.

there are forms that must have been filled out before getting admitted to a nursing home that needed to be signed off on that detail the level of care the person desires, such as "do not resuscitate" orders, whether they want specific measures done to prolong their life. when a person is unable to manage themselves ... anymore they sign medical POA (power of attorney)to a trusted friend or family member to help with the process. these things are supposed to be a guide to be followed. Still, the communication seems to have failed.

Off to do a ride.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both of the low impact hiit workouts together (50:08).

Deb, as Lori said, there are no premixes on the BarreAmped dvds, but you can pick and choose sections. My favorite of her dvds is the Bootcamp one. Really nice low weight upper body workout--surprising how much it burns. The core workout at the end is not easy either.

Judy, I did get to see your video--I think there was something wrong with the wifi connection when I first tried. What fun! Your DH sounds like mine--always working. I hope all those trips were productive! When I go to Home Depot I become mesmerized with all the possibilities for DIY projects and wander around forgetting what we came for.

I went to see Mr. Holmes yesterday and was a bit bored with it. It seemed more like something that should be a TV movie on Hallmark--kind of sentimental. Or maybe I don't want to even think of Sherlock Holmes suffering from senility.

Lori, that sounds like it will be a fun class. Maybe you will get some tips on form.

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday,

A nice day yesterday, met my cousin for a manicure, then helped her out for a couple hours in her office, and went to class early for a team practice. We are entering a 4 dog team in our September obedience trial. Similar to what we did last year, but this year will be a Wizard of Oz theme. We need to figure out costumes or something to represent the Wizard of Oz for us and the dogs.

Judy, what are the condo projects that you are doing? Sounds like a lot of work, with multiple trips to the hardware stores! We have Home Depot and Lowes, but not Menards. I always thought that was a regular department store.

Valerie, you have to work on posting pics here....your cat is probably the only one that has not been seen here and that is not right! LOL...:). At least I don't remember seeing a pic of Puss. You should be able to do it from a smart phone or iPad. Depending on what you use to post here...I think I read somewhere that that dentist's practice is going to go down. Serves him right.

Lynda, thanks for the review on Mr. Holmes. It's up at our local neighborhood theater, John was thinking of going. Do you watch the series on Masterpiece? My ex-boss was hooked on it.

Hi to Lori, Josie, & Dawn.

A workout this morning, probably RWHIT Legs....and I have my orientation at the airport for the Dog Greeter program. :)

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ba, rear delts, bis from RWH (52:28).

Deb, I love Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Martin Freeman as Watson on Masterpiece theater. Well, at least one of you should wear those red ruby slippers and a Dorothy outfit. Not sure what the dogs will put up with for costumes. You will have to let us know how the Dog Greeter program works. Is this for people arriving at the airport or coming off planes. There's a good picture of Max at the East Mountain Farm facebook page. We used the Thundershirt again yesterday and it really does work. Might have to use it again this afternoon.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am actually looking forward to the debate on Thursday evening. It promises to be crazy again. Who knows what they will say? or do?

Hi Ladies,

I took a Bodypump express (30 min) class followed by Grit class another 30 min class.
I'm a bit sore today, but I liked the combo. Today I went for a 3 mile run and will be working out with Karina. Today is day 9 of my 21 day challenge and I feel energized and have no cravings.

Garance, I went to se Mr. Holmes to on Sunday and felt the same way. I actually was dozing off at the beginning ;).

Deb, I can't wait to see your babies in their Wizard of Oz costumes.

Judy, I hate home projects and I can't stand going to Home Depot. I would be wishing for Monday too ;)

Lori, my DD and I used to take Barr classes a while back, but it was a nit expensive. We did enjoy them though.

Hi to Dawn and Valerie!

Josie

Good evening ladies!

Back to our lunchtime workouts with the ladies. Seems like it has been awhile since our last workout together. Yesterday we did 21d barre and that was my only workout. Today we did SB's Total Body Fusion and everyone loved it. Glad about this!!! Tonight was Cathe Live CrossFire Express and wow this kicked my butt. Was very happy that was only 36 minutes. But boy it packed a punch.

Deb...dvd was not mailed today as I remembered I did have her bootcamp dvd that I wanted to include but forgot it home. It's in my bag so no way can I forget it. You'll like this one and like Lynda this is also my favorite of the three. I just never do them so glad to give them to you. You must take pictures of the Oz night. What fun!!!! How did the orientation go?

Lynda...I love Cumberbatch too! Haven't really thought much about the debate. Thanks for the reminder. My DH and I usually like to watch them.

Josie....sounds like some great workouts...I do need to ask what a Grit workout is though? Great job on 21d challenge!

Valerie..we have 2 cats too that are complete opposites. One is very light the other somewhat hefty. That ride sounds really great. I hear Delta will no longer transport large game animals trophie heads and such. I think this is wonderful and I hope the other airlines follow.

Judy...we must have got your horiible storms. Boy one whipped through early this afternoon and we lost power at work. When I left at 5:15pm we still had none. My husband said there was a hail storm when he left the house this afternoon. That is crazy! Yes...you need to do get your DH out and so something fun. We leave for the Cape on Saturday and we are so looking forward to it! You should try the Live CrossFire. Great little workout.

Hi to Dawn!!!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did STS Disc 1, Chest, Shoulders and Biceps. Today I did a longer indoor ride, a little over 90 minutes.

Deb-we are replacing all the inside doors and replacing all of the shelves in all closets. We put a new toilet in the downstairs bath and will be getting one for the upstairs bath next. Also, we will be painting, replacing the Pergo flooring, replacing the upstairs carpeting, possibly putting new cabinets in the kitchen, and on Thursday we have someone coming from Home Depot to give us an estimate on a new heating/AC system. The only room in the condo that DH hasn't taken apart is my gym, thank goodness for that :)
Menards is more like a department store than Lowes or Home Depot.

Lynda-I am looking forward to the debate too. It should be interesting. Yes, DH is always working and we always seem to be running into Home Depot for something. It is nice to walk around there and get ideas for decorating and remodeling.

Josie- I will be glad when all the projects are done, it is getting a little tiring and I think DH needs to take a break before summer is over.

Lori-I hope you get your power back at work. That was a bad storm. I looked up Crossfire live and that does look like fun. I think I will try it out later this week.

Valerie-your rides sound so nice! I'm going to try to get DH to get the bikes out and go to Island Lake. I can't believe it's already August and we haven't ridden outside yet.

Hi to Dawn!

Judy

Good morning,

Great day yesterday, the airport greeter orientation went well. I hope the dogs like it when we go...it can be a little scary with all those people rushing around with rolling suitcases etc. We will be doing the arrival and departure areas...and also the area where people sit and wait for their relatives/friends to come in. We'll see how it goes. :).

Lynda, I am glad that the Thunder Shirt works! I tried going to the FB page to see Max but I forgot my password, and I am having trouble getting in. I will keep trying though. As for the costumes, they want me to be Dorothy...( a checkered blouse?) there is a Mastiff that would make a great Cowardly Lion...and as for the other dogs, Kylee would be Toto....and the others those weird flying monkeys...we just need to get them some type of wings to wear. We have to make sure we don't put them in something that will make them not want to do the obedience routine! :).

Josie...nice workouts! What is Grit?

Lori, thanks again! I also heard about Delta not transporting those animal "trophies" and I hope all the airlines get together on this. I usually am against this type of "ganging up for a cause" but I will make the exception for this one. We had a strange storm here too...it started to rain so we went to the yard to put the patio umbrella down...and found it across the yard tipped on its side...the wind had lifted it right out of the holder..and blew it across the lawn! While we tried to get it down to put it back a huge crack of lightning and thunder came, and it started to pour. It startled the dogs but they didn't really care....John and I were more afraid! :)

Judy, Great workouts. OMG those are some major home renovating projects!

Hi to Valerie & Dawn,

Take care,

I am guilty of no pictures of Puss or myself. Pictures are difficult for me.. something I haven't learned. I have pics on my phone but no idea how to transfer them to my desktop. it doesn't have a functioning photo program. I'm pretty stupid about doing pictures.

we went on a beautiful hike yesterday. around 7 miles, about 6 hours. it is cooler this week making hiking easier with fewer bugs.
the day before we did a road ride with friends, about 22 miles but windy. Had them over for lunch right after, so I had to be organized and have lunch ready before we left at 8:30. this morning we will probably mountain bike.

wow Judy, that is a lot of projects to have going at once! complicates every single other thing when your house is all torn up too. we need to finish doing our upstairs this fall/winter. Painting first, then the floor. our old carpet has to go. think we will replace with laminate but it's a big project, a lot of square footage. will do some ourselves, have a contractor do the carpeting. we will still have carpet in the living room and on the stairs but ours is 25 years old and needs replacing badly. that is the one spot kitties are hard on.... they like to scratch on the stairs.

yes, 3 cheers for Delta and the other airlines that have joined them. maybe this will be a deterrent to big game hunting in Africa and elsewhere.

I am looking forward to the Thursday debate mostly for the entertainment factor. wonder what the Donald will do to get attention?

ETA I'm looking for a reasonably low calorie "energy" drink. I'd like a caffeine boost when we hike or ride but choices are overwhelming. I love starbucks double shot ( espresso & cream) but at 140 calories I can't do that regularly. I tried a Red Bull zero calorie one the other day. trying something called "Go Girl" today. I don't like tea at all. Anyone have suggestions?

Hi Ladies,

I have not decided if I want to go spinning today or take a rest day yet. If I don't go spinning I will workout on Friday which is my usual day off and try Grit cardio. Grit are three new workouts by Les Mills that my gym just started offering and my trainer Karina teaches. The workouts are only 30 minutes, but they are intense. The gym offers Grit strength, plyo and cardio. I will be skipping the plyo :)

My parents are coming over to visit and so that I can take them to get haircuts. Karina recommended her hair dresser, this will be their second visit. Ben did a wonderful job last time and He only charges $25. It also gives me a chance to spoil them :). I plan on taking them to lunch and shopping.

Judy, those are a lot of projects! You and your DH will definitely need to include some fun activities.

Deb, those customs sound great. Good luck at the airport.

Garance, I saw the picture of Max on Facebook. He is adorable! I also can't wait for the debate.

Hi to Valerie and Dawn!

Josie

Valerie,

try taking 2 of these....no calories and like having an espresso....80 mg of caffeine, and no "rush to the restroom" 20 minutes later. :) ...this is what allowed me to do those 4:30 am workouts when I was still working...you may be able to try them out ( I did this before buying any quantity) if you have a local store like a 7-11....they stock them by their coffee set ups where they have the cream and other flavor shots. My Admin at the time suggested it when I was complaining that I needed caffeine to work out that early, but didn't want to waste the time making a pot of coffee...
