Lori... a lot of big dogs get spinal stenosis. unexplained weight loss is another reason to get him checked. My dobie got stenosis... gradually lost control of his rear quarters so walking, stair climbing, got hard, and had stool incontinence. it was as if he was embarrassed.... I kept him in the laundry room with a hard floor, and he'd push his poop under the washing machine. Not good! I finally started carrying him up the stairs. I'd let him try climbing for a while but when he couldn't do it, I carried him. we didn't pursue what ever else might be wrong, he was 15-ish, really old for a dobie, and nothing to be done. it helped carrying up stairs that he weighed less. We waited too long to make the final decision, and I feel guilty about that.

Think about what length you want to go to keep chester comfortable. it's hard .... your vet should be able to give you a pretty good idea. besides, chester may not have exactly the same thing! regardless, when big dog can't move around by himself, you need to decide what you can live with..... like making a way for him to get in /out that doesn't involve steps. Chihuahua size dogs are not the challenge a big dog is.

this is NOT the friend with pancreatic ca. that person is doing OK and probably going to be one of the 20% survivors. I swear, she is bulletproof. the lady who passed is another friend who suddenly developed a strange swelling/thickening over her right shoulder about a year ago. It turned out to be a malignancy. it never responded to treatment. she was such a nice person it just hurts that she had no chance. It was relentless and never abated no matter what was done.

in addition to these issues, we are having awful eastern WA fires. it is WAY worse than the news reports are showing, awful! town after town evacuated.... Other states are having problems but there is so much here we can't even pay attention to other places like ID OR and CA.

Good morning all & Happy Weekend!

Lynda, your plans for the weekend with your son and his new friend sound great. How old is Max now? It seems like yesterday when you went to get that new puppy.

Judy, nice ride! Is this a bike trail that you went on? Best in Show is pretty funny, and having friends that do that type of dog showing, it's not far from the truth....a little "over the top" but not too much. :).

Valerie, so sorry to hear about Aunt Betty and your friend from yoga.

Lori, it sounds like you found a really caring place to board them. If he is in the Day care part, is he out for a long time? I would ask if they could limit his day care time to 10 or 15 minutes at a time, then let him rest. Has your vet done blood work to see if there is anything going on other than arthritis etc? A weight loss like that could be something not related. Your boss sounds like a real "gem" ..I can't believe he gets away with that kind of stuff.

Hi to Josie & Dawn,

Agility class this morning, then we'll see.

Have a good weekend,

Deb, pretty sure they're baby swallows. where is the nest ? probably a cave swallow but could be barn swallow or cliff swallow. is the nest on a vertical wall?

Yes, believe it or not the nest is in a park women's rest room stall! My friend went in there and could not figure out what the "cheeping" sound was in the next stall, until she figured out it was birds, looked in there and there was this nest. The park people have the stall blocked off so they are not disturbed. My friend took a picture with her phone and sent it to me to see if I knew what they were.

I have pics of adult birds but not babies. those look most like cave swallows to me, and that's how they nest.... a mud cup on a vertical wall. they look like they're about ready to fly...
