Good morning,

Hot and Humid today...but no rain. It should be a beautiful one.

Valerie, wow, lots of good stuff! You can come and bake at my house any day. :). I bought a bunch of Kind bars to use as snacks, and keep forgetting I have them.

Lori, I forget...did you take the dogs with you on your trip? Either way, they are probably happy that you are home. That museum must have been interesting....How funny...I just watched the episode on Mad Men where JFK was assassinated...they had all the old TV clips etc...it brought me right back to that day...I think everyone remembers where they were when they heard. I was in the library at school, 5th grade.

Hi to Lynda, Josie, Judy & Dawn,

A workout, lots of Housemax, and maybe some yard clean up. It's amazing how many tools are used and have to be put back etc.

Take care,

Deb, my mother & grandmother (plus aunts) used to bake a lot. we always had fresh baked things and it was great quality. consequently, I never developed a taste for commercial baked things. they don't taste good and smell funny. so it's a good thing in a way, as I'm not tempted by what passes for desert these days. if it's a cake mix, I can taste and smell unpleasant chemicals and won't/can't eat it. same for prepared pie crust. I've never identified what the ingredients are that I smell, but forget it, not eating it. I don't make desserts often anymore. can't afford the calories. or I make them and DH eats them. coffee cake, muffins, I can have sometimes. always from basic ingredients. so I bake, divide up and freeze. DH has a serving every day. he has a better "calorie use" profile than I do. and cheap ice cream, all puffed up like marshmallow, and so sweet. UGH. I make my own ice cream most of the time too. Now I get a spoonful rather than a bowl full My mother used to bake 30-40 different cookies for Christmas. we'd store them in tins in the ice cold attic. it was a tradition that's been lost. people used to come visit and have a cocktail and cookies. no body does anything like that anymore.

Lynda, that was annoying. not a political thread going on here. Hopefully the OP will see no political arguments going on and will go away. If we have need to bring up the name again in coming months, maybe use EW?

ETA forgot about the Kennedy issue. I was in study hall in high school when it was announced over the PA system. what a shock. He was the first president I remember well. I don't remember if we were sent home or the day continued normally. My parents weren't politically involved, I don't remember if anyone was very upset. I remember the flap about his being catholic and what a big deal that was then. makes the world seem so small then.

No formal workout yesterday, some garden work after the rain stopped mid day. everything perked up. unfortunately the fires on the east side are going wild. they've had lightning sparked fires running wild near the town of Chelan. as bad as last year, just a short ways south. not even sure how to check because the Inciweb site got hacked.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:15).

Valerie, that is a lot of baking and it all sounds good. I do a little baking, especially at Thanksgiving, Christmas and a cake for DH's birthday. Increasingly, though, I just don't have the urge and I don't eat what I bake so DH ends up feeling like he must finish things off. I do buy old stuff from the supermarket bakery because DH uses 'treats' to coax reluctant pigs to go where he wants them to go. Wouldn't eat them for sure. Good news that you have been getting some rain. We get the late afternoon thunderstorm and it comes down in sheets. I couldn't figure out why he would poke in his commentary on EW except to provoke.

Deb, I am still watching season 4 of Suits. It gets a bit repetitive, but I like all the characters, especially Donna. Yes, I remember where I was, too, when I heard about JFK--in the hall at school, headed to my Chemistry class after lunchroom and ran into my Norwegian teacher who told me. I even remember what I was wearing. I also have vivid memories of the Cuban missile crisis because my teacher in Modern Problems was a fighter pilot called up in case we went to war. A very scary time.

Lori, yes, did you bring Nilla and Chester on vacation? Or did they get a vacation from you? It sounds like you had a great time.

My son is not happy with his golf rounds this weekend, so he's been kind of crabby. Next weekend it's my other son with his new woman friend coming from California. I hope he doesn't rush into anything right away, given his recent divorce.

tee hee I wouldn't go to the effort of baking if it was going only to tempt pigs! I'd probably be offended!. Most of my stuff isn't over rich ...pretty restrained actually, but a calorie is a calorie..... unfortunately for me.

Hi Everyone,

Friday I did STS Disc 5, Back & Triceps. Yesterday I did Disc 9, Legs. I had to switch things around a little for week 3 of Meso 1, since DH is on vacation and I wanted to get one of the STS workouts done over the weekend. Unfortunately we didn't get out to ride this weekend but hopefully this week.

Deb-I don't remember JFK's assassination, but I remember RFK's and MLK's very well.

Valerie-My mom and her family always baked a lot too, especially around holidays. I agree about commercial baked goods, they are not the same at all.

Lynda- I agree about the political post-it was just to provoke. Your response was very good!

Lori-After 2 weeks of Meso 1, I am really looking forward to the active rest week and then Meso 2. I have a feeling that I will be like you and prefer Meso 2 & 3.

Hi to Josie & Dawn!

Have a great week!

Judy

Good evening ladies!

Today was Cathe Live Drill Max. I liked it but it was over an hour so I needed to cut it short just a bit. I wanted to fit in the new SB advanced barre that I am loving right now. Even with cutting the workout short I still worked out for 70mins. Later in the day I took both Chester and Nilla for a much needed walk. Nilla actually walked about 90% of it. It was still hot in the later afternoon so when Chester jumped in the water Nilla and I went in so I can cool her off. Me just up to my knees and I bend over while holding her and she swims around a bit. It is rather cute.

Judy...2 weeks down and 2 more to go and meso 1 will be over! Like you I do not remember JFK's assasination but remember RFK. I do not remember MLK for some reason.

Nilla and Chester did not come. I would have loved to have brought them but no pets allowed. My DH spend the week here taking care of them. He will do this again in October when we go to Mexico. In a couple of weeks we are all traveling to Utica for my only neice's wedding. My DS and his DGF are going too since he has very few cousins. Unforturnately, I will need to board them. This will break my heart as I know Nilla will be very stressed. Chester will be fine because he always thinks he just going to summer camp!

Lynda...thanks for your quick reply. I could not have said it better myself. I do not bake at all!! Never have. I am a good cook when I do cook but that does not happen very often. My meals are always quick and convenient.

Valerie...I just looked up what the Inciweb was as I had never used nor heard of it. Is this site nation wide. i could not tell on my phone.

Deb...I hate yard work! Good for you doing it today. It was so hot hear. After I went grocery shopping I remembered I needed hair dye. I stopped at my usual place locked my car doors and started to automatic start to keep the air running that is how hot it was here!

Have a great night! Hi to Josie and Dawn!

Here are my two doggies walking...I do carry water for them too. Didn't want you to think I do not give them water breaks...they are really panting!

Lori I don't know if Inciweb is nationwide. DH uses it all the time to check on fire situations, smoke plumes in the west. he said it got hacked and that Norton security would not allow access this morning. I didn't look after he said it wasn't accessible. a very awful situation. many lives up in smoke.

fires here are awful.. all east of the mountains but so many! Our news coverage is just for this state and there's so much we're not heating much about elsewhere. and OR and CA and ID have plenty too. mostly lightning caused. Chelan is not a small town and it's surrounded. we go there several times a year. mt bike there, xc ski there. usually in spring as it gets too hot for me.

Off on a hike tomorrow, planning on with cousin & wife but they wimped out.

Good morning,

Very hot and humid today...it's already 67, but if feels like 80. I guess it's better than snow! :)

Valerie, it is so awful about those fires. My grandmother baked bread every week, loaves and rolls. It was awesome. My mother was the apple pie maker in the family. I don't remember her making cookies, or stuff like that, only at Christmas. Too bad about that site...maybe it's back today.

Lynda, LOL on buying the baked goods for the pigs...that is too funny...I wonder what the local bakeries do with old stuff....do they mark it down a lot? If they have to toss it, would they save it for your DH to use instead? That guy must have put "EW ( full name) in the search box for all the forums to find it here so he could rant. Glad you like Suits....it is really one of my favorite series. I am looking forward to the next season. I am on season 4 of Mad Men....and also started Blue Blood on Prime....I like this one a lot too. Very good views of NYC and it's neighborhoods...which fascinates me. I have been interested in the lifestyle of Manhatten since reading Lawrence Block's Matthew Scudder series.

Judy, it's great that your DH is liking STS....would he ever do the actual rotation? maybe when you get to Meso 3 which is the most intense for lifting. No da*mn wall squats :)

Lori, that is so sweet, Nilla cooling off by you holding her in the water....dogs cool off through their feet....so even dipping her feet in is a great relief. I hate boarding dogs too. The 2 we have now, and the last 2 were never in a real kennel. Our breeder friends always take them in their house. They are getting up in years and one of these days they will not be doing this any longer...then I have no idea what I will do. There are services here that have dog walking from your home etc and would have someone stay at your house with the dogs, but I am not ready to wrap my mind around that yet. Thanks for the video...little NIlla takes 2 steps for everyone of Chester's, of course she gets more tired and would need "Mom" to carry her at times. :)

Hi to Dawn & Josie,

I may meet my cousin at the track today, otherwise errands, phone calls to make....

Take care,

Good Morning Everyone,

We are having our new furnace and AC installed this morning. Hopefully that will go smoothly and won't take too long. We might actually get a bike ride in this afternoon if the weather stays nice. They are predicting storms from tomorrow through Friday :(

Deb- I would love it if DH would do STS with me! I know he wouldn't like Meso 1. I think he would like heavier lifting so Meso 3 is a possibility.
We found a cat only vet clinic that also does boarding. I might have mentioned it before, we boarded the cats there when we went to Colorado last December. It worked out very well. The clinic is about 45 minutes away from here, but it's worth the drive. They have great hours, are open 7 days a week, and are wonderful with cats. I didn't like the idea of boarding but there wasn't any other good option.

Valerie-That's terrible about the fires. How far away are they from you?

Lori-great workouts! I have the Drill Max dvd but haven't done it yet. I bet the live version was fun!

Hi to Josie & Dawn!

Judy

Hi Ladies,

I went for a run on Saturday and my friend Angie and I went spinning and then she took me out to breakfast to celebrate my birthday yesterday. She brought me some of her home grow tomatoes from the plants that she bought the last time she came to see me. They are so good, I added them to my salad last night.

I finished my 21 day challenge yesterday and today I will start to reintroduce carbs into my meals. I lost 13 pounds and 3 inches around my waist. I feel great and look thinner all over :). I will continue with the 21 day fix next Sunday. We are going to Palm Springs from Wednesday - Saturday to celebrate my birthday with my mom, dad and my brother DH and I.

Lori, Chester and Nila are so cute. You are a good mommy:)

Judy, hope that you get outside for a ride. It was 72 degrees on Saturday morning at 6:45 and humid not very comfortable and we were running along the ocean.

Garance, I also just bake up a storm during Christmas and make cakes for the grandkids and DH and my dad for their birthdays. Where does your son live in California?

Valerie, I would hate to bake all those goodies and not be able to eat some :(.

Deb, it sounds like it will be to hot for the track. Keep cook!

Josie

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both low impact hiit workouts together (50:08).

Happy birthday Josie, and congrats on your weight loss, and even better, those inches down. My son lives in Sunnyvale, just outside of San Francisco.

Valerie, those fires look horrific. The days-old stuff I pick up at the supermarket looks inedible to me--donuts slathered with pink frosting and chocolate bits, cupcakes with outlandish colored frosting piped on top. Ugh! Looks like trans-fat city to me.

Deb, DH would not want to pick up all of that sweet stuff for the pigs. Their feed is so much better for them, and what they really compete for is crabapples and plums from the trees. He does get stuff from the local restaurants and CSAs that he delivers to, and the pigs seem to really like brioche, whey, much better than those garish 'treats'. They also love to crunch on lobster shells, and the sound is hilarious.

Lori, love the video of Chester and Nilla, plus their panting together. Nilla looks pretty spry for her age. I should get out Drill Max. I did it a lot for awhile, and I remember a 60 min. premix especially because the whole thing was too long for me.

Judy, maybe you can fit something in between the storms. Very hot and humid here as well, but at least the rain doesn't come until late afternoon and evening. I bet you would like Drill Max--a lot of variety. I remember using the big ball in some of the moves that I enjoyed.

Good evening ladies!

I did not work out with the ladies today. First day back from vacation was extremely busy. Tonight I did Cathe Live Cardio Core. You only use weights for the standing core work through out and the rest are cardio drill/blasts. Awesome workout. Sweat was dripping off me.

Valerie...the fires sound terrible. Sorry that your cousin whimped out! But at least you'll get a great hike in!!

Deb...it is really going to break my heart to board her. When I do she will be in the medical area due to her seizures so at least I know she will be in good hands. It was really hot and humid here today too. Usually it is cool in my basement and I also run a dehumidifier but tonight it was not as cool as I would have liked and it drained me.

Josie...Happy Birthday!!! Great job on the challenge. Congrats on the weight loss too. 13lbs is huge!!!! When you start the 21d fix let me know if you have any questions. I'll be glad to help.

Judy...I tried to get my DH to do STS with me and he wanted nothing to do with it. Perhaps if I started him with meso 2 he may try it. Like Lynda mentioned the Drill Max DVD is a long one. It had been a while since I have done this one so not sure of the similarities of the Live version and the DVD. I do recall using a large ball which you do in the Live. I really liked the Live version too.

Lynda...who would have thought pigs would like lobster shells. Very funny! Spry is exactly the word we use when we describe Nilla. She really moves for her age and still has tons of energy. Just can't hear anymore at all.

Hi to Dawn!

Hi Everyone,

The contractors arrived here around 10:00 am and didn't finish until 5:30. We didn't get a bike ride in so I ended up
doing STS disc 8, Back & Triceps after dinner.

Josie-Happy Birthday! Congrats on your success with the 21 day challenge!

Lori-I've tried to get DH to workout with me at home before and he hasn't been interested. I hope I can convince him to try a Meso 2 or 3 workout. I think he would like it if he did.
That's a great video of Chester & Nila, they look very sweet!

Lynda-Great workouts! I haven't tried the low impact hiit ones yet.

Hi to Deb, Valerie & Dawn,

Judy

Went on our hike today and it was tough. about 5 hours RT. maybe 5.5, forgot to stop my timer. the road there is absolutely awful. it's a long highway drive but the last 10-15 miles are FS roads and the first 7 or so are rough, but the last 5 or so are awful. every year is different. we have a Subaru so it goes up anything but still a challenge. the hike itself was 6-7 miles. some parts very steep. 2 people had over-nighted up there but they were coming down and we didn't see anyone else all day. my kind of hike. there's another trail before the road gets awful, but that one has become too busy in summer. SO TIRED!!

We are disgusted with the local news coverage. the fires are awful... there are reporters acting like smelling smoke is a big deal, and that they need to 'report" that it smells smoky??? OMG please! I don't know what has happened to journalism lately.

Lori, I need to go look at your doggies video. Judy, we decided our kitty is best off at home alone for our vacations. I took the other cats to a kennel but they hated it and it cost a lot and I wasn't sure it was any benefit. we set up several litter boxes, an autofeeder, and leave him here. he has the whole house, it's familiar, and although he must get lonely, it seems less traumatic than a kennel. just a thought for short trips, especially since you have 2 who would keep each other company..
Josie I am amazed. I could not lose 13 pounds unless I lost an arm. makes no difference what I do or don't eat, I just hold the same amount.
DH uses one STS workout, not sure which one, but he does it regularly. I need more variety.

Good morning all,

Yesterday I met my cousin at the track and did Run Fit ( Candace Grosso MP3). It was so hot and humid, you could hardly breathe.

Judy, did the A/C Furnace installation go well? All set and ready to cool you off? There is a "cat only" boarding place here called the "Cat Nap".

Josie, Happy Birthday and great job on the weight loss! I should really look at that 21 DF again.

Lynda, I hope the new woman friend of your son's is nice, but like you said, that he is going to take it slow. My in-laws lived right near Sunnyvale, actually my FIL used to work in Sunnyvale...it's pretty close to San Jose and the suburb of Saratoga where they lived.

Lori, that is great that they have a medical section for pets with issues like Nilla. Sure helps with peace of mind when you go away.

Valerie, great hike! I agree on news reporting....it gets really repetitive and is not about providing information any more.

A workout this morning, KCM Core one that I have not opened yet, and HouseMax or GardenMax...not sure which. It depends on the weather.

Take care,

I was pretty cranky last night but I meant what I said about news coverage. You would think local news would show a map of the area, what major roads are open or closed, actual information. It does no good to have some poor woman reporter standing on a hill with smoke all around, asking people in the middle of the mess stupid questions, like "how are you dealing with the fires?" ARRGH!! absolutely zero useful information conveyed. Chelan is 125-150 miles from here depending on which road is used. Directly hiking over the mountains it is much closer. The north cascades are very rugged and only have indirect trails. it is possible to hike from west to east side in reasonable distance. there are fires all around right now, very close to where the fires burned last year. these were lightning sparked fires.

Lori they are so cute.. chester & nilla are exactly the same coloration but sized very differently.
I am getting a laugh out of picturing pigs crunching thru lobster shells. who would imagine??
Going on a short road ride this morning. supposed to be hot today but I'm tired from yesterday. it was very warm and with the drive over 2 hours each way, it was a long day. my ankle didn't bother me that much. I tried a different lacing technique and wore a compression sleeve. I bought a lace up brace but it seems too big with my boots. it takes up a lot of space and then I can't lace the boots down very well.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ba, rear delts, bis (52:28).

Judy, I love all of Cathe's low impact hiit workouts. The two most recent are short enough to put together into a solid cardio workout for me.

Valerie, it's too bad that you don't get MSNBC. They did a lot of reporting on the fires this morning. One frightening bit was the news that the fires have spread to an area as large as the state of Vermont. The pigs actually play with lobster shells--throw them up in the air and then catch, crunch, swallow.

Deb, yes, I hope my son goes slow on this new romance. He keeps saying that he has known her for 5 years as a co-worker, but ....... I guess we will just have to stand back and see how things take shape--or not.

Lori, I have been blasting the fan on me when I work out because otherwise I am dripping. It's so humid and still. I hope we get a bit of a break when my son comes on Thursday.

Hi to Josie and Dawn!

Good evening ladies!

Still was not able to workout with the ladies. They are working out with out me which is so great! Tonight I did Cathe Live PHA training. I have done this before and liked it. Yesterday's cardio core drained me in this heat so I wanted a tough workout but not cardio intense.

Lynda...crazy hot and humid here again. Then in the middle of the day it was thunderstorms and pouring rain for about 10 minutes then it was nice again. Cooled off a bit but not much. The visual of the pigs throwing them up in the air is hilarious!

Deb...the run fit sounds like a nice workout. I still have some DVD's that I have never opened too. And then some I have opened, previewed, and still nothing! Oh well.

Valerie...I did not think you were crabby at all. I sometimes get very fustrated with the news too and just need stop watching for a bit. Great hike but boy it sounded like a tough one. No wonder you felt crabby!

Judy...that's a long time to have contractors working at your home. Hope all went well.

Hi to Josie and Dawn!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM's Ab's & Core...the standing workout. It was really short...I thought it would be longer. Lots of plank work as well as standing core.

Valerie, Did you find out anything about your foot/ankle yesterday? You and your DH amaze me.....a 2 hour drive to the place to do the ride? I would be tired too. :).

Lynda, I never think of pigs playing with anything..but.just like most animals, I guess they would do that.

Lori, a sign of a good trainer is when the "students" go off on their own and do the workout. :). You have certainly inspired these women.

Judy, I hope all went well with the A/C etc. This is not the time to not have it, that's for sure.

Hi to Josie & Dawn,

Not sure if I am going to the track or not yet....if not, I may do a treadmill workout...or go outside myself an walk the neighborhood....we'll see.

Take care,
