Good morning...or afternoon depending on where you are,

Did a Cardio Coach outside this morning. Much nicer than the treadmill.

SIL did not do well yesterday. she may have overdone it the day before, since it was her birthday and we got her a cake etc She cold not stay i\up for dinner last night

I hope this visit isn't too much for her. John's other sister arrives the day after we leave so she will not have that much of a break If I had known that I would have cut the trip by a day.

Have a great "rest of the weekend"!

Good morning,

Home tomorrow..Our plane leaves around 8:00 a, PST...we get to Buffalo about 6:00 pm then pick up the dogs right from the airport. I am ready to be home.

Good Morning Ladies,

Well back to reality today. :( This morning I started the Beta Phase of T25 with Cardio Core. Really liked it. Tonight will be P90X Chest, Shoulders and Tris. Then walk Chester.

I was going to weigh myself this morning to check out the damage but completely forgot! Oh well!!!

Deb, I am sure you are ready to come home. I can't imagine how this visit was for you and your husband. On a happier note your doggies will be very excited to see you. I thought Chester was going to plow me over when I walked in the door. I get almost as excited as they do!

I will check in later today to see how everyone is doing.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday DH and I did a 16 mile bike ride at Island Lake-Kensington Metro Park. We had planned to do 2 laps around Kensington Lake but DH hasn't been riding much lately and I could tell he was getting tired so stopped after the first lap. It was just as well since something was going on at Kensington and there were a lot of people and children on the path. We were constantly slowing down and stopping trying to get around everyone. Usually the bike path isn't that busy.

This morning I did a 1 hour Spinerval then I walked at a very leisurely pace for an hour. Tonight I did Xtrain Chest, back, shoulders. I did not feel at all like working out tonight, but I really want to stay on track with this rotation. I did a timesaver premix, which was 5 rounds instead of 8.

Deb-I'm glad you are back home, I'm sure that was a very hard trip.
I bet your dogs were so happy to see you!

Lori-I'm going to have to look into this T25, I've been hearing more about it and it sounds pretty good.

Hi to Lynda, Valerie & Josie,

Judy

yesterday was a garden day. work.... but not ridiculous. today we did a hike...somewhere around 12 miles. I'm whipped. not an extremely difficult one by any means, but 12 miles are 12 miles and I'm pooped. sort of warm and buggy, not as bad as the last one but still gets wearing.

Deb, flying that far for a short time and then back is an exhausting process. something about the time zones, airports etc that you feel like you covered big mileage .... because you did. flying east-west and west- east is harder than north-south IMO. Hope it was worth it to you and your SIL.

Judy... yes that kind of traffic really interferes with riding and makes it harder. all that stop/start and unpredictable people. I worry more about adults than children because it seems most have music in their ears and even if you yell or ring a bell, chances are they don't hear a thing. I know everyone has a right to be on a trail but we really try to avoid busy times.

Good evening ladies!

Wow what a workout I had tonight. Worked late yesterday so never did weights nor did I walk Chester. Slept in this morning because of working late...dh is working tonight so I came right home and did my T25 Speed 02 workout then followed it up with 30 minutes of p90x ch,sh and tris then walked chester for 3 miles.

Deb...I took your lead and cut my weight workout tonight from 50 mins to 30 and it worked out perfectly. When I first looked at the length I almost wasn't going to do it but remembered you did something similar and I went with it. In those 30 minutes I still felt like I received a great weight workout!

Valerie...a 12 mile hike is great! We have trails all around me and I never utilize them. Some are pretty rugged. Perhaps some day I will go with my son.

Judy...I completely get it with the bike path. That would drive me nuts if I had to keep slowing down. I started the Beta Phase of T25 yesterday and still really liking it. Today was Speed and wow my legs were feeling it.

Hi to Garance and Josie!

Went to yoga this morning and we did headstands. I am a little too flexible in the spine for these and need to tighten up more but not scary or anything. I get sort of back-bendy in that position although it feels solid to me. then did my obligatory shopping stops and DH called and wanted to ride again. so got home, unloaded quickly, and loaded up and rode 25 miles. I've been neglecting my upper body stuff but was just too tired to consider it after the ride. he wants to do a mt bike/hike tomorrow. weather is lovely so will probably do it. been mid-upper 70's breezy, low humidity, can't get better than that. rain will be back soon enough and then workouts switch indoors.

lots of stroller moms and kids on the path today. we go slowly past them but kids are so unpredictable you have to be able to stop on a dime. even when their mom is yelling at them to stay to the right.... they go all over. poor lady had just about had it when we passed her again on our way back.

Home Sweet Home!

..it took 13 hours to get here, but we are finally here...picked up the dogs right from the airport. Saved us another trip out.

The trip was nice but sad at the same time. My SIL said when I was saying "good bye" to her, "next time you come out I will not be sick"....I don't think she realized what she was saying...I think she thinks she will get better, although BIL has told her what the doctors told him. So sad...
Anyway, I am off this morning, going in at 1:00....we have some outside people in to explain our "wonderful new heath care" options and how much more it will be costing us next year....thank you so much Mr. Obama... I'm still wondering when we will see that $2500 savings per family....that he promised.

Lori, we had the same great "welcome" when we picked up the dogs...we go right from the airport since it is half way there anyway. Yes, back to reality today...more than I want...yep, you can get a great workout in 30 minutes. Like someone said here, it's better than no workout!

Judy, sounds like a nice ride, but I agree, nothing worse than having to dodge around people on a bike path.

Valerie, 12 miles is a big distance to hike ! How long does this take you, ( I assume this was roundtrip)? Nice going with the headstands!

Hi to Josie and Garance,

that's it for now....

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I ran/walked 4 miles and today I ran/walked almost 5 miles. The weather was very nice and it felt so good to be outside. I felt pretty good and was able to run, at a very slow pace, most of the time. Tonight I will be doing Xtrain Bi's & Tri's and some core work.

Valerie-Wow, 12 miles is a long hike! I'd love to get my DH into hiking with me. We don't have the same running pace right now, so we can't do that together.
I think we'll have to find another time to ride at Kensington, other than Sunday afternoons. I have a feeling there are going to be lots of picnics and other events there through the end of September, and that means the trail will be packed.
Hope you had a good ride/hike today!

Lori-sounds like you got a great workout in! I have been using Deb's idea about modifying workouts too. Sometimes it's just easier for me to do 30 minutes and I still get a good workout in.

Deb-that is so sad..I'm sorry for what you and your family are going through.

Hello to Lynda & Josie,

Judy

Good morning,

Well I have a terrible head cold, woke up with it yesterday morning. I swear it is from flying on planes with all that recycled air..yuk!

Judy, at least your DH does something....I cannot get mine to do any type of exercise...I am always worried about his health. He is in denial.

Where was everyone else yesterday?

Work, then home to relax and hopefully shake this cold..

Later...

Deb that is SO annoying.. I HATE getting a nasty headcold. I also suspect recirculated air but also all the contaminated surfaces you can't help but touch. almost everything is a potential source of cold virus from the counter tops to the door handles to escalators. I view everything as contaminated. I use a lot of sanitizer and try very hard not to touch my face. It's absolutely one of the great miseries of travel... the headcold that follows up.

too bad you can't get DH interested in anything physical. I had hopes when you got the bikes.... I'm worried my DH is going to wear me out in 2 months! I can't believe how much stuff we've done in the last 2 weeks. It's funny how much attitudes differ on physical activity. It would drive me crazy to be inactive.

we had another major day yesterday. did a mountain bike about 5 miles uphill to a trailhead, then hiked a mile or two to the ridge top and then back down and out. it got very warm and the flies were awful. It's so unfortunate that when the skies are blue, the wild flower meadows in full bloom that the flies will be so awful you can't stand still for a second. I again had to put on long sleeves and pant legs. it was cool in the morning when we went up but by noon it was very warm and with that come the flies. we couldn't even stop to eat a snack..... just raced back down the trail, reloaded out bikes and beat it for lower elevations. rolling downhill was speedy enough to be comfortable. the fire situation here (and obviously in other western states) is very bad besides. probably more thunderstorms coming this weekend.

Judy, DH goes a little faster on his mt bike than I do . just enough to always be ahead, so he just stops every now and then for me to catch up. riding close together is not comfortable for me. no time to react if something goes wrong, and I find my self looking at him and not the terrain and am more prone to crash. if he's further ahead I ride much better.

Hi Ladies,

I think that I'm done celebrating my birthday! Back to workout mode and clean eating :)
I got on the scale and I have gained 4 pounds of the 14 I lost since doing Insanity. Not bad considering I got sidelined with the shingles and then my foot :). My next Dr appointment is September 3rd.

Deb, my DH only plays tennis on the weekend. I got his bike tuned up and got him some padded shorts and a nice jersey so that we could ride together but it did not work :(. The bike has been parked in the garage for over a year :(

Valerie, it sounds like your DH is trying to kill you with all the workouts. Regarding the flies, have you tried Skin so Soft products from Avon? They really work!

Lori, I'm so jealous :(. I wish I were doing T25.

Hi to Judy and Garance!

Josie

Josie I've tried everything as have other northwesterners. august is fly season and the flies are not deterred by anything including the usual insect sprays. all that works is a layer of light clothing to block them but when it's hot that is hard to do. sometimes I use a head net too. some years we don't hike in august at all unless we get some cool days. flies seem to get activated at about 70 -75degrees and get worse as the temp climbs.

You should get that few pounds off quickly as soon as you can work out normally again. Hope that's soon!
DH and I are thinking about training for longer rides... do you follow any particular training program in advance of long rides?

Valerie,

Our official training for ALC starts in October and the mileage start at 15 for beginners, 35 for intermediates and 45 for the advance group. Every weekend we increase the mileage by 5 miles. During the week I do 3 spinning classes of one hour.

Josie

Hi ladies!

Been so busy with work since I came back from vacation. I was off today to help my son move for school. I am so sad. I cried when we said goodbye. :(

When I came home I immediatly started setting up my workout area in the basement. Figured it would help me. I was crying a bit while I was doing this. Did not think I would be so emotional. He is my only child and it seems so final. Hoping this passes soon. Hate feeling like this.

Well our workout area looks great :) and all set up for my T25 in the morning. Still need to move the TM, spin bike, recumbent bike and eliptical downstairs. Going to have to wait for my son to visit with a couple of friends for these to be moved. Not going to happen with DH and I!

I have been doing great with my workouts. Josie...you will be back working out before you know it. Started the Beta Phase on Monday. A couple of the workouts seem to not be as intense as I would like them to be. After I do them again next week I'll let you know my thoughts.

Deb...hoping you feel better soon. Summer colds are horrible!

Valerie...got a kick out of your husband on fire with the different activities. Still think it is awesome he is so active. I too would love my DH to workout out with me!!!

Hi to Garance and Judy!

Good morning,

I still feel awful, left work around 12:30...slept most of the day and then got up for some chicken soup that John made, went to bed at 8:00 and slept until 5:00...not a good sleep though.

Valerie, nice hike except for the flies!

Josie, I am sure you will drop those pounds as soon as you start training for the ride.

Lori, you will really like your new workout area, but sad that your son has gone away to school. When will he be back? Thanksgiving?

Work, then home to crash, and sleep more.....I hate colds...

Deb the only good thing I can see is that it doesn't sound like you had to wobble "on the verge of something" for days on end, but ended up getting sick immediately. then it will be over soon. maybe you were exposed to something before you left? seems awfully fast to come down with something but colds are tricky.

took yesterday off except for yoga. probably not much today either ...maybe a upper body workout so I don't forget what those are.

Happy Friday,

I will be hanging out with my DD today. No workout today but tomorrow I plan on doing a P90x upper body workout.

Lori, I know exactly how you feel. When my DS left I could not even walk by his room without bursting into tears. I would cry at the drop of a hat and the same happened when my DD left for college :(. It will take a while, but it does get better.

Deb, I hope you feel better soon.

Garance, where are you?

Hi to Valerie and Judy!

Josie

Good evening ladies!

Feeling better today. Thanks Josie for the assurance that it will get better!

Yesterday I did P90x back and biceps and boy was feeling it today. This morning was T25 core cardio and tonight was suppose to be T25 upper focus but because of the DOMs this can wait until tomorrow.

I managed to get my spin bike down the stairs to the basement. I put it on my ironing board and slid down the stairs with it. I'll have to say I was pretty amazing with this idea as it worked out nicely! ;).

Deb...he is only 2 hours away. The way I have been crying you would thing he was on the other end of the earth! He'll be home every now and then on weekends. So I have this to look forward to!

Hi to Judy, Valerie and Garance!

Good morning ladies!

Will be very busy today. About to do T25 upper focus then RIDE. After this I will continue working on the workout area then walk chester in the evening. DH has a long work day today and I want to have everything done so tomorrow we both can enjoy a rest day at the pool.

Deb...hope you are feeling better. Garance how is your shoulder?

What is everyone else up too this weekend? Whatever it is enjoy it!
