Good morning,

Well it is tougher than you think, keeping these 2 dogs apart, especially since they had just started to play and like each other.. Two weeks of this seems like an eternity.

What is everyone up to tody?

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did Rockin' Models (70 min.).

So, now your exercise is Dog Patrol, Deb. Keegan must be doing okay if he feels like playing.
Not much happening here. Same old, same old..... I did go to see Crazy, Stupid Love yesterday. It's very good and often very funny.

Going out for pizza tonight.

Good morning,

Sorry to be MIA- started babysitting last week. Eventually I'll figure out how to do everything in a day.

Glad to hear Keegan is feeling better.

Joan

Hi everyone.. did disk STS 33 so just one left. the crossover tricep kickbacks are the move that hurts my front shoulder now. everything else seems OK. I have 1 disk left & I'll be done with STS again.

We did a hike saturday that was just lovely. we took mt bikes thinking we might have to ride 5 miles to the trailhead. the forest service, in their infinite wisdom, spends time and resources to build and maintain trails, and then refuse to keep the roads open not for any particular reason. they'd blocked this road with some boulders that someone ( not us) moved aside. so the road was perfectly driveable to just short of the trailhead. but no way to tell when the boulders could go back, so we took the bikes. the trail is probably about 3 miles and long a favorite for us. all kinds of rebuilding had been done since we last used it. since then they stopped maintaining and are trying to close the road. a lovely day, sunny cool, and still plenty of snow to glissade down from the peak. we sat in a snow covered meadow with millions of flowers trying to come up thru the snow, several streams of gushing water, and it was so unbelievably lovely.. I didn't want to leave. when it's nice it's REALLY nice.

Today we started a bike ride and went about 5 miles but the traffic was too heavy and fast. we turned around. I'm not happy riding with 50-60 mph cars passing a couple inches from my shins. especially BIG cars with people unwilling to move over even slightly with zero oncoming traffic. probably all on their way to church too. we might try it on a weekday, sunday morning was not good.

We watched the Adjustment Bureau last night and enjoyed it. a ridiculous premise but I liked matt Damon and emily blount together. Have liked both of them in most of their movies. It was fine lightweight entertainment after the hike and a good dinner. Started watching Damages 3rd season today. hard to follow with the back and forth time line.

Too funny Deb , doggie time management for weeks. animals just never seem to be uncomfortable after surgeries, nothing like people.

Morning all,

No sleep last night to speak of. Keegan is having a hard recovery, passing blood, straining to urinate, and not able to hold it at all. We had a terrible night last night, I called the vet when they opened at 7:30 am this morning. Just to make sure that this is "normal" for this surgery, and have them take a look at him. The poor little guy is not happy right now and I am so worried about him.

The vet said that this happens once in a while, his sphinctor (sp?) could have been weakened with the surgery and will take up to 7 days to strenghen up. She also said to increase his pain/anti-inflamatory meds. I have to call them back around 3:00 today to give them and update. I don't see how anything can change in that short of time, but will do what they say. I am so glad I took today and tomorrow off.

Valerie, I guess you will now know what to sub for that exercise. That one is not one of my favorites for triceps.

Hi to Garance, Josie, Joan & Cathy,

Take care,

Oh Deb, that's too bad that Keegan is having a tough time! so many times dogs and cats come home and act like nothing has happened at all. What kind of process is it? do they go in to the bladder and remove the stones? Hope they can figure out the cause of the stone formation so this doesn't need to be repeated, ever.

I actually like that particular exercise but will lighten way up on weight until this settles down. It only hurt for a day but I want this to get better, not become a chronic problem. It's a very specific small area not the whole shoulder or anything. I don't think the last disk will affect it at all.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. we plan on doing a ride today, nothing epid. just 30 miles or so.

Hi Deb, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Sweat Express II (58 min.).

Gee, I hope Keegan gets better soon. He seems like such a stalwart little guy, and I'm sure you are having empathy pains, Deb.

DH has decided to keep two of his Berkshire gilts (young sows) for breeding, and he's naming them Sharon and Schnitzel--Sharon for one of our friends who is an absolute nut about pigs and Schnitzel for the yummy pork cutlets. The fellow he was getting his Berkshires from decided to raise all of them himself, so DH decided to consult with his pig lady, who has a Berkshire boar. Her advice: choose gilts that have at least 12, preferably 14, nipples, and a deep crotch. He also chose them for their dispositions, but was hilarious about examining (ahem!) their anatomy. Always exciting around here with animals. Berkshires are predomantly black with enormous mudflaps for ears.

Raining steadily here today. A Nor'easter in the summer, according to the weatherman. Glad it's not snow.

Hi Ladies,

I'm sore from head to toe! I went to The Bar Method class on Saturday and Sunday+spinning on Sunday. Let me tell you; that class hits every spot on your body.
Garance, it reminds me of Physique 57. All the movements are very subtle, but they pack a punch. My DD and I signed up for a month of unlimited classes for $100. each. We will decide after the month is over if we will renew our membership.

I plan on going 3-4 times per week plus spinning 3 days and my Sunday ride.

Deb, sorry to hear about Keegan, it sounds very painful.

Joan, I will be going to Las Vegas this Friday through Monday to celebrate my birthday, so send me some of your good luck. I need some mad money!

Valerie I agree with you on riding my bike in heavy traffic. It is very scary.

Hi Cathy! Any rain yet?

Josie

Hmmm ... pig anatomy 101! counting nips seems reasonable but a deep crotch? good grief, how do you tell? use a tape measure? Eyeball it? Just sort of reach up there? Isn't it kind of hard to tell what extends to where especially on a black pig? Does he use a headlamp? Oh this is too much... we need more details, I tell you!

Josie, tell us more about the Bar method. I've seen physique 57. didn't think I'd like it. always willing to take a look at anything that's effective. Have fun in Vegas, win a bundle. Happy Birthday!

We did a ride today, 30 miles. way more hills than usual but they seem to help my sit-bones and wrists from getting over stressed. my legs can take the hills. my usual aches are from flatter rides. it took us 3 hours because we were using a map and making it up as we rode. lots of stops to get directions right. traffic was OK on this one so we'll be marking out our route and repeating it.

Deb, hope the pain and antiinflammatory meds helped. poor little guy... can't explain it to him.

Same ole', same ole' here. Another night of mopping the floor. At least he was in the kitchen the whole night and easier to clean ceramic tile.

Garance, I'm with Valerie, how do they tell if a pig has a "deep crotch"? What does the disposition have to do with a pork chop? :)

Josie, did you order Cathe's new series? It has a bar workout as part of it. I have one of the Physique 57 workouts and did not really get into it. I am hoping that I will like Cathe's better. Happy Birthday, and sending you "winning" vibes.

Valerie, supposedly Physique 57 is how Kelly Ripa got into shape. I can see how they would work, but I found it very hard, and did not have the interest to keep at it so I could get the benefit. The one I had was pretty boring. 30 miles is nothing to shake a stick at. Where did that phrase come from anyway? "shake a stick at"...?

Well off to mind the pups.

Take care.

I watched P57 with Kelly Ripa and was pretty sure I wouldn't like it. She looks good but it seemed incredibly tedious. I could do it maybe once and never want to look at it again. I like things with "bigger" movements, for lack of a better description. Kind of like Cathe stuff.... I like squats and lunges and don't care for floor work with its little moves. I'll do some as part of an overall varied workout, but all small moves? No.

Deb, this must be one of those times you are thankful Keegan isn't a 70 lb dog with corresponding bigger output! Hope he improves soon.

I don't eat pork so I wouldn't think about chops or cutlets but I would guess disposition is helpful for managing a big critter. How big do pigs( this kind) get? I've read they're pretty smart for domestic animals but have no experience. just seems an ill mannered hostile pig who weighs 300 lbs would be tough to manage.

Yoga at 7, gotta be ready to "roll" by 6:30. also make DH's lunch & feed him and myself. No serious movement without my latte. we usually are up between 4-5. go to bed around 8.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did disk 13 for ch, sh, tris (65 min.). I decided to go straight through STS because I will just finish it before we head off to the wedding in California.

Deb, disposition in any big farm animal for breeding is absolutely essential, because you don't want a large farm animal resisting your handling or fighting you off when you put rubber bands around their male little ones' balls (because the last thing you need is a bunch of bulls). DH had one cow who would run off into the woods to calve, even storming through a hot electric fence to do so. DH would have to go and find the calf and bring it to safer territory (there are coyotes in the woods). He's also had to assist in some births when only one hoof appears, or it's coming out the wrong way. As to crotch depth, apparently it's the length between the vulva and the anus (You asked for it, so there it is!). It gives the breeder an idea of how big the uterus is and how many piglets she can carry. Sorry little Keegan is having such a hard time.

Josie, I really like my barre workouts for my legs and butt. I just did Rockin' Models on Sunday, and it always fries my legs (I also love the music on this one). I have both of the P-57 hour long workouts, and I prefer the first one because the second one absolutely kills my abs. It is abs-solutely the toughest abs workout I have in my dvds with a very high dread factor. My other favorite barre workout is Booty Bar.

Hi to Valerie and Joan.

Hi to anyone who shows up--

This morning I did TLC, both workouts (60 min.).

Deb, I hope your absence is not a sign that Keegan is not doing well.

I am so looking forward to Cathe's new workouts. The times look great, and there will be an abundance of premixes. Plus, this all looks like Cathe made it a creative challenge for herself. Wish she would put up some clips.

Josie I think I already sent you all my luck. I haven't hit anything in a long time. Of course I haven't played much.

I don't know if I told you that Luke has started to walk. He is 16 months and I wasn't sure if he would ever walk. Last week he took a few steps and now he is walking all over the place. Although sometimes he still finds it easier to crawl.

Joan

Morning ladies,

I don't think I stopped by to post yesterday at all, it was crazy first day back at work, with Keegan's issues, puppy nuttiness. Anyway, things are starting to look better for Keegan. Went to sleep at 10:00 last night, I got up at midnight to let him out, no accidents ( he is sleeping in the kitchen these days), again at 2:30, and then 5:30 so he was able to hold it for 3 hours which is way more than before. This was with drinking water each time. maybe by the weekend we can all be back upstairs in our beds! Yay!

I hate to admit this to you guys, but I actually slept with him on the kitched floor on a bunch of outdoor furniture pillows from 10 to midnight. He was crying so much because he is alone in there while the "upstart" gets to be with us in the living room. At midnight I couldn't take it any more so I moved to the couch.

Garance, I am looking forward to this series too. Such a mix of different things, and the pre-mixes sound great. I would love more clips too. Did you ever read all the James Herriott books? Those and the ones by Jon Katz remind me of your DH and your place, and what he is doing.

Valerie, did you go on a long ride yesterday?

Joan, I don't know how you do it! Babysitting a 16 month old is a challenge for sure, especially now that he is walking.

Hi to Joan & Cathy,

2 more days, 2 more days.......take care..

We did a hike yesterday, very tough. I didn't have a very strong day but it was still hard and took us 8 hours. much of the route was on hard "side hill" snow/ice. my ankles were toast by the end of the day. I have very flexible ankles and it always is hard to stay upright and not twist them. lost sop kicking steps, and we needed traction devices ( microspikes) and ice axes. it was sunny and lovely and due to difficult conditions, we saw only 2 other people, some hunters heading down. snow was softer by the time we were going out but I was exhausted. got some sleep and went to yoga this morning anyway. not sore was just totaled by 5 pm yesterday. today I will be going easier on myself.

Deb, I don't find that ridiculous at all especially if it felt to you like it helped. at least you don't have to hike up and down stairs if you need to let him out. Back when I was a kid when we had a new kitty we used to put a ticking clock in bed with them. wrap it in something soft and they'd cuddle up to it thinking it was their mother's heartbeat. Keegan may not fall for that though! also, a ticking clock might be quite the search. but it used to work very well. Sounds like the bladder control issue is getting much better.

Babysitting a 16 month old is probably equal to 2 days of my hike yesterday. I couldn't do it.
I used to LOVE those james herriot books. I didn't like it when they made a TV series though because the characters didn't match how I'd pictured them

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did disk 15 for back and bis (53 min.).

Deb, that's good news about Keegan. Nah, I'd do the same if it comforts the little guy. Of course, I don't have to get up and go to work after sleeping on the floor. Yes, I loved the Herriot books and the TV series, too. I still sometimes see episodes on TV, but they need to be re-mastered or something. Hmm-I wonder if they are on DVD. Any interest in doing a shared rotation with those new workouts?

Valerie, not sure I would enjoy "sunny and lovely" with those climbing conditions, but I know you love a challenge. I'm trying to visualize unusually flexible ankles.

Joan, I don't envy your babysitting. Toddlers must be watched constantly because once they get going, they just keep going. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind being a grandmother--no sign of that in the near future.

Good luck Josie!
