One more day.

Tomorrow our dog club is doing an agility demo at the Scottish festival which we do every year. We are taking both dogs, which means bringing an "easy up" tent, crates etc. This should be interesting. It is pouring right now, which is a good thing, but I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow.

Valerie, I have travelled for work, but never have rented a car. Strange, I know, but I'm glad that I never had to. I think I have had one flat tire in my life, with one of my cars, and DH was with me so he changed the tire. I guess I have been pretty lucky that way.

Lynda, I have been watching the KCM site and the new workouts, but decided I have enough of hers right now. I will wait to hear what you think of them before considering purchasing. After Crossfire and To the Max, they looked pretty easy. I always liked her 30 minute format. Glad you purchased xtrain. I think these are going to be awesome. I can't wait until we get them, but knowing how long it takes, it will probably be in the spring!

Josie, I think what you said is exactly what you should say to that co-worker.

What is everyone doing this weekend?

Josie I might add I can't work when someone is talking. And maybe not add you're not interested in her personal life.

At the gym I'm assuming it's the liability issue. Luke has preschool on Tu and Th from 9:30-11:30. I told them I could just make it if I had trainer from 10-11. I got there yesterday at 9:45 and just had time to get 15 min. warm up.

Josie, I agree with Lynda and Deb. some peoople are not very intuitive and don't "get" subtle ( even not-so-subtle) hints. she sounds like one of those people. you need to be direct with her. not mean, not rude, but direct and plainly stated.

Joan, hope you can work that out. just seems silly to make a division between parents and grandparent. it's not like you're the babysitter!

Took the day off exercise after yoga. it was warm, today will be hotter. we are so lucky to have air conditioning. it's a heat pump so warms and cools. we use the air only a couple days a year but getting some sleep when it's hot is so important.
I traveled a lot ( fly/drive trips) for about 7 years, before air travel got difficult with security. most of our flats were on personal vehicles and most when DH was along. we have driven a lot of rough roads for hiking and that's when most of them happened. he ( we) are good at it! one time I came back out to a flat outside a hardware store. I blocked the wheels, put the jack together, got the spare and was undoing the lugs when I heard someone yelling "Hey, there's a lady with a flat out there! Get out & help her". in 20 seconds about 3 guys were out there taking over! it was hot and a relief. but I knew I could have finished if no one had been there, and that was a good feeling.

finally weighed myself, I'm down 1.2 lbs. this is on top of the previous 5, so it's going slowly but in the right direction.

not sure what we're doing this weekend. cycling one day. it got extremely hot in the mountains. some bad fires already and lightning storms predicted for saturday. we'll wait and see what looks reasonable.

Back with Luke so I have a moment to post. Lower back is sore today and I think it was from the kettlebell. I didn't like the movement and it was too much swinging. I am going to be very particular this time and refuse to do anything that might injure me. I think he went overboard on his stretching. My hip hurts and it never hurts.

Hi Ladies,

Thank you all for your input. I will be direct and to the point maybe she will get the hint. I woke up in the middle of the night and could not go back to sleep, so no workout this morning. I will going to yoga and spinning tomorrow morning and on Sunday I’m meeting a friend for a 6 mile walk and then brunch ;)

My dad taught me how to change a tire and change the oil, but I have never had to use it.
He showed me on my 1970 411/hatchback Volkswager. I would not know where to start on my Jag.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did the lower impact premix on To the Max (39 min.).

Josie, I think you put it precisely--you are not interested in her personal life. It may be hard at this point to be perceived as merely informing her, since she's been confessing to you for so long, but she sounds like she has a pretty thick skin. Hope it goes well.

When DH and I were living in NYC, he stopped to help a woman change a tire because he could see that she was tightening instead of loosening the bolts. At first, she was adamant about being able to do it herself (no doubt a feminist stance of self-sufficiency), but once he explained what she was doing she let him take over because by that time the bolts were REALLY on tight.

Joan, I hope the trainer gave you some form pointers on kettlebells before letting you swing. That can be very tricky. Hope it works out for you with the timing.

Deb, I am off to Jacob's Pillow tomorrow and will meet with a friend there. It's an all-male troupe of very athletic street dancers called Compagnie Kaftig. I missed them when they came 10 years ago and gave the tickets to my older son and his then girlfriend. They were ecstatic and even though it sounds like a different group of dancers this time around, they have been getting standing ovations again. My SIL will be staying with us this weekend--she's CFO for the Boston Symphony and is doing something at Tanglewood. Not sure if we will be going out one night with her. The weather this weekend sounds like a bit of fall--down to the 40s at night and up to the 70s in the day.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi,

I treated myself to lunch at a place called Tanino's and had my favorite sea food pasta with homemade pasta, scallops, calamari, muscles, clams and shrimp made with an extra spicy red sauce. Yummm!!! I'm ready for a nap ;) I will probably gain 10 pound between yesterday and next Saturday. I'm celebrating my birthday early and will probably continue until the end of the month. Oh, I forgot I also had a glass of Shiraz that was delicious.

lynda.. IMO one of the most useful mantras ever created: "rightie tighty, leftie loosie". sometimes there are exceptions but mostly that keeps me turning things the right way. sounds like a busy weekend... I could go for some fall like weather.

did some serious garden this morning and chores. just finished LBB which I swore I would do every week so I would not get sore. I fell off the wagon. It went OK though and it didn't seem that hard. cycling regularly seems to work that lower butt area where I often get sore.

have a great weekend everyone.

I decided everyone else was right Josie, you can't be polite. You have had this problem for a long time and she just doesn't get it.

He told me I was doing the kettlebell correctly but that's the only different movement that I think could have caused the lower back pain. I also told him the elliptical caused knee pain for me. I tried it anyway and my knee HURTS. Muscles are sore and that's ok but I don't like it when joints hurt. The other movement that could have caused knee pain was like the wall squat but hovered over very low step. It was more than 90 degrees and I think that might have been another part of the problem. I will warn him Tuesday that if the knee stills hurts after the initial 4 sessions I won't be signing up with him.

Saturday

Good morning,

We are off to the Scottish festival, lots of stuff to pack and bring for the dogs to be there outside, for about 4 hours. Tent, coolers, ice...etc etc. It should be fun. My neice and her husband with 2 kids will be there, he is very Scottish, will be in kilts, as well has the older boy. They love it.

Valerie, good job on the weight loss.

Joan, I think I would be pretty upset about the gym thing, with the day care, and would talk to the manager. Yes, get a different trainer if he doesn't change things, not worth it...Kettlebells can be dangerous, if you are not warmed up correctly. I have a couple of workouts, but never could get into it. the exercises seem to be something that should be fun, but the workouts are boring to me.

Josie, Happy Birthday...when is it? You had a nice lunch, good for you!

Lynda, have a good weekend at Jacob's Pillow and with your SIL.

Off to get ready, take care...

Did not get sore from LBB, and I did it all including the floor stuff. finally, some "crossover" effect from something I am doing regularly, biking.

we rode this morning, about 25 miles. looked sunny but by the time we had the bikes loaded, fog settled in. still ok for riding but needed a jacket for the whole ride.

Joan, you haven't done anything in a long time... at least it has sounded like that. I'd be cautious the first 2 weeks while things get toughened up again. I'd expect an experienced trainer to know that. none of us are 20 and what works then may not work at 60+. You want to get a little sore, get things moving but not to the point you get so sore or injured and have to take time off to heal. I've never used kettle balls so can't comment on those but swinging any weight always looked "iffy" to me. just makes me nervous.

Josie that sounds like a great birthday lunch! Happy Birthday! I could get usedto the concept iof 'Birthday month".
