Good morning,

A beautiful day here right now. 66 degrees, cool and it looks like it will be sunny. Hope to get a bike ride in today, but need to do an upper body workout first.

Joan, good for you for taking that step to make your workouts an appointment. If that helps, then do it. A mile is no problem. Our gym is about 15 miles away, and I would have to go after work. Like Valerie said, for me it would be too much time driving, back and forth etc. I love my workouts at home. I know what you meant though, there are way too many excuses not to just do it.

Valerie, flat tires is the only thing I am leary about with the bikes. At least you weren't that far from the car, and had the stuff with you. John bought a pouch like thing for under his seat, to carry wallet, keys, and I guess a tube? or something for a flat tire. It doesn't fit on his bike, but does fit on mine. :D, so I guess I am the one that will have the stuff. He needs to get one in case he rides alone and gets a flat.

Lynda, how was Jacob's Pillow yesterday?

Off for more coffee, and to figure out a workout to do....

Take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did the 57 min. premix on Turbo Barre. All the leg work (except for the band) and core work. No upper body section with the dumbbells.

Deb, the Trey McIntyre Project is one of my favorite companies. He has very witty choreography, reminiscent of Mark Morris and Twyla Tharp, and I love his music choices. The first ballet, "Leatherwing," was to Peter, Paul, and Mary's children's album (inludes "Puff, the Magic Dragon"), and another was to the album for Free to Be You and Me (includes Diana Ross, Shirley Jones, Alan Alda.....) It rained pretty hard part of the way to, and then all the way home. Sunny while we were at Jacob's Pillow. Two more performances to see. Actually, last weekend was half wonderful (Winnipeg Ballet), and half utter dreck.

Valerie, I would be frustrated with that dishwasher, for sure. We never buy a service contract because there is a local guy, the Appliance Doctor, who is able to service virtually anything and everything. He also tends to give good advice from his vast experience on what appliances are the most reliable and easiest to service.

Good luck on the personal trainer, Joan! Mornings have always been best for me, since I just like to get it done for the day and then move on, so I haven't done any exercise outings since Jazzercise back in the 80s.

Out to dinner tonight.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hey gang,

This morning I did week 3 of C25K ( yes, week 3 again), and the compound leg part of To the Max. That one really gets your heart rate up.

Of course, I forgot to click the "start" button on my HRM watch, so I didn't get to see my calorie burn. :(.

Another lovely week of work, take care...

Hi Ladies,

One more week and then I go on vacation again ;) I went to yoga on Saturday and tried their class called ripped yoga. I was not impressed with it at all; I did not feel like I got a good workout at all. I will be going spinning first next Saturday and then the yoga for athletes class wish stretches all the muscles and gives me a better workout.

My house is finally done. The carpet people had to come back on Sunday because the warehouse did not give them all of the supplies they needed. So, my DH called the main office and let them have it. All the work was supposed to have been done last Monday.
He told them that he wanted at least $1,000 back for our trouble and they agreed.

I did my shoulder and triceps DVD this morning and will do the abs tonight. Tomorrow I will do the legs DVD since I did not do it on Sunday.

Joan, congratulations on hiring a trainer, it does help to have an appointment set up.

Valerie, I hate getting flats that is why I love to ride with a group. There is always someone to help out.

Deb, it seems that you are back on track with your workouts ;)

Hi to Lynda!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did the 47 min. premix on Cardio Supersets. You do the second 4 supersets, followed by a step routine that's really more about heartrate than choreo. I really like this premix and will probably keep it in my weekly routines for awhile.

What's the compound leg part on To the Max, Deb? Just a chapter or 2?

Bet you are happy to have all that work done on your house, Josie. Another vacation? Lucky you.

Hi to Joan and Valerie!

I didn't have a choice on who serviced the DW, this is who Bosch has a contract with for warranty work. just bought it a couple months ago! I'd be ticked off big time if I were paying. will call tomorrow to see if the part is "in" and schedule it for this week. he already told me it's a several hour job.

so today we hiked. nice day a bit too warm by the time we were comign out . we started in around 8:30. was cool and pleasant but warmed up to "too warm" for us by noon. so around 6 miles maybe 2000 feet gain.

bike tires ...need tubes that fit your tires. DH and I have different sizes so we need 2 of everything. his flat was caused by a tire sidewall failure. if we'd stuck in a new tube and pumped it up, it would have squeezed out the tire slit and gone flat in a few minutes. we always have tubes but not usually another tire. it gets bulky, and we'd need two. interestingly the patch glue had evaporated. the tube was capped but the contents disappeared. DH carries a tiny backpack and I carry a waist pack with tools, parts. on long trips that wouldn't be adequate. fortunately we weren't far from the car. under 2 miles. the big problem was I didn't notice he wasn't behind me. I rode 2 miles before I noticed. it was windy,a straight stretch of road and I didn't look back. so i'm in the doghouse for that. Deb, make sure you have a tire pump.
we looked at the mileage on our odometers and we've put almost 3200 miles on these bikes.

Good morning,

A rest day for me today, since we had the late class last night, plus, for whatever reason, when we get home from that, I cannot go to sleep for a long time.

Josie, I am envious of you, taking another vacation so soon. what are the plans for this one?

Lynda, I may try that pre-mix on Thursday morning, since Wed night agility classes are cancelled. The compound leg part is one of the segments, where you do side leg lifts/squats off the step with DB's, then when you are on, you do an overhead shoulder press. You do this on both sides, then the side step plie squat/with ARnold presses. She does this twice through, for about 7 minutes. I decided I would tack this on after my C25K run for some extra leg work a couple of times a week. Since this compound move includes shoulders, tomorrow I think I will try to tack on some push ups, and maybe some pull ups using my assisted pull up straps.

Valerie, I hope your DW part is in and it goes in without a hitch. Thanks for the info on the tires. I thnk we need to look into carrying more repair stuff, ( or some!), before we go on any longer rides.

Joan, did you get the apt with the trainer set up?

Off for more coffee, and to get ready, take care,

Deb, we ride on regular roads about half the time. if we have a problem we need to be able to fix it or someone has to ride back to get the car. most of our trips are loops and not huge mileage. no one would get marooned for hours. having a few basic tools and knowing how to change a tire is a good plan.

lynda... good reminder about the turbo barre workout. I didn't like that one much, think I've done it twice and shuffled it to the rear. I'm behind on my STS for the week. I wanted DH to spot me so I could push the weight a little but our timing hasn't worked out.

Josie, you've reminded me that we usually have some kind of house project going on in august. too warm for hiking for us so most years we update or improve something, but haven't done it so far this year. not that there isn't plenty to do, we just can't agree on what.

Off to yoga.

Hi Ladies,

Got to work 30 minutes early and regret every minute of it. My co-worker decided to spill her guts with stupid stuff, I tried to tune her out but was not successful. I signed up to my computer and was trying to read my e-mails, but she was just standing there talking and talking. I can’t take it anymore!!!

Sorry, just needed to vent! I wish I could go spinning right now to get some stress relief.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did the upper body premix on High Reps (39 min.). I'll get the back on Thursday.

Right, Deb, I do that compound leg work when I do the low impact premix on To the Max.

Wow, Josie, I think I would just snap and start yelling at her--my inner Gordon Ramsey would emerge. You must be a pacifist. Has she no idea how much you hate listening to her?? No wonder you need another vacation.

Speaking of Gordon Ramsey--last night I watched his new show where he tries to help people with their inns. I was interested because I had heard of this place up in Windsor VT. It was fascinating. One of the owners was a total jerk with his help, and it turns out that he was also a hoarder of antiques, which was why he couldn't pay them. Cannot wait to see the second half tonight. The place is beautiful but the running of it is completely dysfunctional.

I am currently changing all of the punctuation in a piece so that it fits British conventions for publication. Not much fun.

Good morning,

well "the best laid plans" and all that, can be blown apart by a 16 pound puppy that insists on getting up at 3:00 am. I also woke up with a horrible stomach ache, not sure what that is about. ugh..

Valerie, I guess I should get a lesson on how to change a tire.

Josie, I know what you mean about annoying co-workers...does she not get the hint if you tell her you are trying to get some work done? I am lucky because I have an office and I can close the door, but then, all the people work for me so they are pretty quiet when I am around. :)

Lynda, mmmm...changing the punctuation? I never thought of different punctuation for British puplications, can you give us an example of different punctuations between the two?

off to get ready to go, take care,

Lynda, that's interesting. I would have thought punctuation very similar. but word use, and punctuation has gotten so casual here (USA)sometimes I have no clue what's "correct" anymore.

Did a good part of disk 19 yesterday and ran out of time..... the double wave load disk. it was tough but my old notes were accurate and I completed the heavy parts without needing a spotter. we will do a bike ride this morning and then I'll finish the last few exercises.

DW is still waitng for a part that is shipping from Louisville. it will be sometime next week, can't schedule an appt until the part is here. I'm getting used to heating my own water.

Josie, do you have a supervisor who can talk to this coworker and get her to shut up during work hours? it must waste a lot of time and interfere with getting things done..... both for you and her and anyone else who has to listen.

Deb, I've never changed a tire all by myself. need tire irons, an extra tube, patch kit, tire pump. need to get tire off bike before changing. flats never happen conveniently. good idea to preview this at home. maybe you'll never need to do it.... but better to have an idea of what to do.

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did the lesser impact premix on Crossfire (56 min.).

The major difference is in quotation marks. The British use single quotes where we use double and place the quotations inside commas, periods. So this is one of my sentences: Despite, then, the "nuclear reaction" of "Flame," she rises out of its fires and the poetic sequence of CAPRICCIO circles on itself. I changed it to Despite, then, the 'nuclear reaction' of 'Flame', she rises out of its fires and the poetic sequence of CAPRICCIO circles on itself. I have lots of tiny snippets of quotation from a series of poems by Hughes in this piece. The other major issue is to avoid lengthy quotation (while at the same time giving a reader a very good idea of the poem) so I don't have to seek permission from the estate or pay for quotation. You have no idea what a hassle it can be dealing with Ted Hughes's widow or Sylvia Plath's daughter on permissions. Sometimes I wish I had stayed with being a Renaissance scholar, because you can quote liberally from Shakespeare or any other long-dead author with impunity. It's the authors with living relatives that are a total pain in the neck.

Hey, at least I don't have any annoying co-workers. I think I have this whole office bldg. for emeriti all to myself. The other retirees very seldom show up.

I had enough problems learning how to change a car tire. I don't think I will be taking up bike riding any time soon.

Have a great day everyone!

I went in today because they didn't call me. I made the appt for tomorrow but then I found out that I can't use the daycare since I'm not the parent. They told me they would give me my gym membership back but I still would like it to work. We'll see what happens.

Joan

Good morning,

We went to our dog club meeting last night so another late night ( at least late for me).

Valerie, not only has punctuation become casual, it's non-existent, and spelling? I think people intentionally use all that "text" short cut wording even when they are not texting because they are lazy. It drives me crazy.

Lynda, I have never changed any kind of tire in my life, and hope to never have to.

Joan, I would be pretty angry if I paid for a membership and could not use the faciliy day care because I was a grandparent, and not the parent???? What difference does it make? I guess I don't get their reasoning behind that. Is it an insurance thing?

Hi to Josie,

Take care,

I agree with Deb on this... parent or grandparent, I don't see an issue. it's not like you aren't related, like a neighbor. how about a permission slip signed by the parents?

the language issues drive me nuts.... wrong words all the time. to, too, two. wear, where. words that sound similar or the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings. it's endless. I can't remember the term for those words....some kind of an ****nym. I use internet abbreviations online or maybe with people who I'm sure know what I mean, but not for general or business use. sort of like medical abbreviations that I'm familiar with. fine in the right place but not OK if no one knows what you mean. there are thousands of shortened things like COPD.

wow, no tire changes, ever? I've changed car tires, not happily, but more than once. usually someone will stop to help a poor woman in distress but not always. so it's a good skill to have. not all vehicles are the same . I traveled a lot and had plenty of rental car issues over the years.

Hi Ladies,

I could not wake up this morning, so I will do my workout this evening. The weather is a bit cooler and won’t be too hot to workout in the garage.

I took a day off to decompress from my toxic office. Tuesday was a terrible day and I wanted to run out, but had several meetings and could not leave. We do not have a director right now and the only person that is next I line to talk to is in Human Resources. I do not trust that person because she can not make a decision on her own; she depends on our old supervisor to make a decision. The old supervisor was so bad that you could not trust him with any information and he is still here on recall. He retired 3 year ago, he is like a bad penny and keep coming back 

My youngest grandson started school today. He looked so happy on the picture his mom sent me. The oldest started 3rd grand and could not wait for school to start. He loves it!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Gym Style Back, Sh, Bis (50 min.).

Valerie, I think you mean homophones--sound the same, but different meanings, different spellings. Homonyms share both spelling and pronunciation but different meanings. One of the reasons I am enjoying retirement is that I don't have to correct the rotten prose of some of my students--spelling, punctuation, grammar, diction.

I changed a tire once, but hope I don't have to do it again. I still remember though.

Well, I broke down and did the presale on Xtrain. I also decided to get KCM's two new workouts, so I should have a real panoply of new choices this fall/winter.

Joan, that policy strikes me as odd. I mean, I could understand not letting a babysitter or nanny drop off her charges while she works out, but a grandparent??

Josie, does this woman really and truly not get your annoyance? Why not say, "Excuse me, but I cannot concentrate on my work and listen to you at the same time and I really need to do my job."

Well, I finished all of my work on the British piece, but now I must work on my gallery talk.

Garance,

The woman does not get it, she sees me working and she continues to talk. It is very annoying and I'm getting to the point of just telling her that I'm not interested in her personal life. If it has nothing to do with work, then I don't need to hear it.
