Cathlete
Good morning,

I just finished the low impact pre-mix from Crossfire. Wow. again I am amazed at Cathe's creations. These 2 workouts are amazing. I can do all of this one, minus the part where she has the tubing on the floor and you jump back and forth in a kickbox pose? I did some of them, but thought better of it and stopped and did ice skaters instead. Slowed down the mountain climbers of course.

Valerie, I need to just keep doing those pushups on my toes to try to get the number up. I have a really hard time with them. I hope you are able to do the trip. It seems like the weather in your area has not been very cooperative this summer.

Joan, I would move the treadmill. Could never workout in that heat.

Off to get something to eat, and maybe weed some of the flower bed..ugh..

Take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did High Reps (65 min.).

Deb, I don't know if you liked the original CTX series with all of the step routines, but I really did. I had it on video and eventually gave it to my sil because I had used it a lot. I know what you mean about STS. I keep thinking I should do it again, but I will be on vacation starting the end of this week, and then when I come back I'm having that vein thing done, so I am reluctant to start it.

Joan, is it possible to move your treadmill into a different, more cost-effective space for air conditioning? It just seems like you are risking heat stroke by trying to exercise in room that hot. If I had a pool, I think I would swim for exercise. No impact, good for your back, and maybe a bit refreshing if you lower the temp on the water a bit.

Could not agree with you more, Valerie, on salt and pepper on homegrown tomatoes. Sooooo good.

Hi,

Actually had the CTX series and sold it on Ebay....I didn't like it at all. I hope this new one does not have a lot of step workouts. I don't mind the step in Athletic Training or even in To the Max, but those aren't really step the way I think of it. IMAX2 / Cardio & Weights was another one I sold in Ebay because of the step in them. If she does this new series like the LIS one, where there is only one true step DVD, it would be ok. Actually, maybe I should think about selling that one. OUt of the 11 that we got, there were only 2 that I reallly didn't want, the spin one, and the step one. I never even tried the yoga or barre ones, but I will keep those because they are something that I may want to do in the future.

Yea we got rain. Temperatures should go down 20 degrees. Fortunately the recent temps are abnormal. Each day we have hit new record highs. Our pool room is usually 10 degrees cooler than the outside. Normal temps in the 80's outside so treadmill is fine. We have the pool but I don't swim. I am blind without my glasses and could never wear contacts.

I wouldn't want the new series if it has much step. I would like some shorter weight wo so I will need to hear more about it.

Joan

Good morning,

This morning I did a C25K treadmill workout. Boy was it ever hot in the basement. Usually it is cooler down there, but not today.

Joan, I'm with you on the new series, hopefully shorter weight workouts, but styled like STS. Did you try the 2 new ones yet? I think you were getting Crossfire?

Did a lot of weeding yesterday, then discovered our sewer starting to back up into the basement. ugh...luckily John had purchased one of those large electric snakes and he was able to clear it before it much had gotten in. An ugly job for sure.

Well, it's back to work for me today. Countdown to the weekend.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did the low impact premix on Crossfire (56 min.).

Sounds like you are ready for retirement, Deb, when "countdown to the weekend" starts on Monday. I still feel pretty busy, but with work I like to do--writing a piece on historical and cultural contexts for reading Plath. I want to finish it before I go on vacation, and then when I get back, I will be composing three separate talks for the big Plath symposium in October. Jacob's Pillow performances, too, for a lot of August. What I am most happy about retirement is that (you have heard this before) I won't be grading any more papers!

Joan, no one could be any more nearsighted than I am, but that has never interfered with swimming for me in a pool or lake. I grew up in Minneapolis, and during the summer, I went swimming in a lake every day I could. I only have problems in the ocean, so my dh goes in with me and makes sure I'm ready for the waves and guides me back to our umbrella. Glad for you that the temps are going down. A friend in Indiana told me it feels, quite literally, like one of Dante's lower circles in hell.

Off to get the car inspected today.

Hi Ladies,

Back to work ;( Had fun in Las Vegas and came back with some shoe money ;)
I will be doing PLB after work. I will give the new DVD’s a try for the cardio.

I will not be buying anymore workout DVD’s. I have enough workout tapes at home
that I need to use.

Garance and Joan, I’m also nearsighted. I wear contact lenses all day long and can not
see without them. I only wear my glasses at night or on the weekend. The glasses are
so thick that I can not wear them all day. I started wearing glasses at age 7.

Hi to Deb and Valerie!

Josie

Hi,

Just jumping in here to say, I just read Cathe's newletter about the new series and it looks like there is NO STEP WORKOUT!!

Garance, I know you like her step workouts, but I was glad to see there was none this time around. There was plenty of step in the LIS series...There will be another SPin one, which I will probably sell if it comes with the pre-sale like the LIS series did. Valerie? Josie? are you 2 still interested in another Spin DVD?

These look good, lots of different options.

Good morning,

A rest day for me, even though we did not go to class last night, I decided to sleep in today.

The weather has cooled a bit, very nice.

Josie, what do you play in Vegas that lets you win? Have fun picking out your "shoes"! :) Did you ever try the other spin DVD?

Garance, definitely ready for retirement. 40 years at the same place can really get to you.

Valerie, If you are around, what do you think of the new series?

Off to get ready for another day of fun, will check back later.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Gym Style back, shoulders, bis (50 min.).

I read the newsletter, too. My only worry is impact. If she continues to offer a low impact premix on the cardio, I would definitely sign up for the presale. How long did the LIS take for completion? We did get it in November, and it seems to me the presale started some time in the spring--so maybe 6-7 mos?

Josie, I wear hard contacts because of astigmatism. My glasses, though, are no longer coke bottles because they now have these very thin, light lenses. I wear them when I want to take my contacts out. My vision is 20/800 and 20/850--really bad. In my 40s I had to start wearing reading glasses with my contacts for reading. I started wearing glasses when I was 5. I have this untested theory I love to tell other myopic people: the reason why our genes survived over the evolutionary millennia is that we have very, very high IQs to make up for being legally blind.

Our weather has been really beautiful, but we do need rain.

Hi Ladies,

I did not workout yesterday. My garage was very how and uncomfortable. I will try again today or I will go spinning.

Garance, I like your untested theory. I also wear the hard lenses because of the astigmatism, but my glasses are still thick even with the new materials out there :(
I also started weary reading glasses around 40. The last time I saw my Optometrist I asked her if I should order my Seeing Eye dog ;)

Deb, I will buy the spinning DVD if you want to sell it. I still have not used the other one because I have not bought my spinning bike yet. I do plan on getting one for my birthday though. Regarding Vegas, I won on the Goldfish penny slots and the Mermaid slots and I also won on the roulette table.

Hi to Joan and Valerie!

Josie

Good morning,

C25K done. It is getting a "little" easier for me to do the jogging part, but not much. I am not looking forward to next week's increase in jogging time.

Garance, I don't remember how long the LIS series took from when she started telling us about it to shipping. It was over 6 months though I believe. I think she had so much success with the LIS series that she will always keep low impact as part of anything she does from now on. Her fan base is getting older and I think she realizes that. I am looking forward to the weight workouts, and that they can be used in a planned rotation. That was one thing I didn't like about LIS, they were kind of a mixed bag and didn't relate in any rotation based format. We need rain badly too. My poor flowers cannot get enough water with my hose watering, and the grass is brown.

Josie, If you want the spinning DVD, I'll get the package that has it in there, and sell it to you for the $10 plus shipping. It will be cheaper than buying it separately, and who knows when you will be able to do that.

Garance, Valerie will probably want it too, I think her DH liked the other one a lot, and they did buy a spin bike.

Whew, I am so hot and sweaty, I have to get into the shower! Will check back later when I am home for lunch...today is my late lunch day.

Take care,

I haven't looked at the news letter yet but I'd also be interested (for certain) in another spin DVD. I'd buy it from anyone who buys the series. I am maxing out on the number of workouts I will actually use since we do other things when the weather is decent.

I was sure I posted yesterday but maybe not. the laptop & DH's system work differently than mine did and uses IE rather than Firefox so it's taking me much longer and I keep making errors. his favorite list is different and I need to sign in with passwords etc everywhere.

we bought a new car yesterday, will have it in about 2 weeks about the same time our new computer will arrive. I ordered an HP this time rather than another Dell. trading in DH's car for a subaru outback.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets Express + Step (47 min.). The step section is easy--like AT--but longer and much less breath-taking-away. She gives you little breaks, much appreciated. I like this premix a lot.

Valerie, if you want to buy the spin disk, I will do that presale. Let me know. Otherwise I will do the presale without.

Deb, I really liked my LIS rotation (I must have because I did it for over 6 mos!), but I know what you mean about the weight work. I feel like I am doing more concentrated weight work with the Gym styles and one total body workout each week.

Josie, I have transition lenses, which are great for beach reading. You really should ask if you can get something lighter weight. Expensive, but boy am I glad I started doing this. My old coke bottles just gave me a headache.

Lynda I will buy the spin disk from you, so go ahead and order it. I might be tempted to buy the series at some point, but I don't think so. I don't do any of the workouts I already have often enough to get tired of them. I don't want aything else with a ny step moves and like STS so I may have reached a point where I may buy an individual disk now and then but probably no more series. I've used the spin disk several times, but DH uses it a lot. I like spinning but still prefer treadmill and LIS for variety.

We did a ride this morning, 33 miles in 2 hrs 45 min. lovely weaather right now. when it's nice here, it's really nice.

I've worn hard then soft contacts for close to 40 years. I don't need a strong prescription, and as I get older it's actally improving. except for small close work, which is better without any lenses. I haul around reading glasses because with the contacts in it's getting harder to "overcome" the correction to read, and sometimes I prefer not to take the lenses out. i do most reading and any close work with no correction. driving is better with lenses although i could scrape by without them but i'd rather not. I keep a pair of regular glasses just for emergencies but I never learned to walk with them on. I always feel like i'm 2 steps up on a ladder and it drives me batty. Every time my prescription changes I get a cheap pair of glasses but have never worn any of them for more than a few minutes. DH never wore glasses at all but is having to resort to reading glasses more and more. so between us we're pretty lucky that way.

Good morning,

No workout today, headache and very tired for some reason, although I could not get back to sleep after John got up with the dogs. I will have to drag myself to work.

Valerie, a new car, how exciting! John has been bugging me to start looking at cars, although there is nothing wrong with mine. I have the Forester, and he says I should get an Outback. What color did you get? Did you get your computer on line or from a store? A desktop or laptop?

Garance, you do the GS and a total body so you do 2 cardio days? You mentioned the beach, are you going this summer?

Hi to Josie & Joan,

Take care,

Deb, we ordered an Outback. we have an 03 forester that we are keeping. both are silver. the 13 outback comes in a nice blue too. the 2012 colors were very dark. I'm not big on car washing and dark colors show dirt badly. the new one has darker interior. if you remember there are not a lot of choices. dark interior with some colors, light with the others. only blue came with either interior. I'm aggressive about keeping the interior clean and vacuumed but the outside to me is like a pair of boots,if you use it, it's it's going to get dirty and stay dirty. we drive on too many gravel roads etc

I order a desktop tower only from HP. my monitor and speakers work fine so no need to replace. a new keyboard is OK since my letters are all worn off. we aren't getting anything fancy but I did want a full featured word processor and some of the fast cheap-ship in 24 hrs- ones don't have that anymore, nd also say there is advertising. I'm not dealing with ads when I try to do a document.

wretched

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

I am so depressed. Playing with Max last night I really hurt my knee. I can't put any weight on it, it's all swollen and needs to be drained, and I couldn't get in to see my orthopedist until tomorrow afternoon. To top it off, we are supposed to be going on vacation. If it's really bad, we may not go at all.

Hi Ladies,

I did a plyometrics DVD this morning and I was sweating buckets. I fell great and have a lot of energy.

Garance, so sorry to hear about your injury. That happened to me with my friends dog, she was jumping and hit my knee and the knee went back, but fortunately it was just sore and inflamed for a couple of days. Did you elevate and iced it? Also, take something to reduce the inflammation and the pain.

Hi to Deb, Joan and Valerie!

Josie

I'm so sorry Lynda, (guessing here) there's a bursa ( fluid filled sack) in there . can get inflamed. Hope you can see the orthopod soon. but until then like josie said, nonsteroidals, what ever works for you. rest and ice. I have a coolpack that straps on with velcro, I have a number of knee braces that I have used, and sometimes even if they don't specificallyhelp the injury they support the joint and remind you of what kind of motion to NOT do.
doesn't it just figure... you can do all these stenuous activities but get hurt playing with the dog...

Hope you can do your vacation even modified.
