Pentagenarians & Beyond W/B 7/28

good morning. we drove to MT yesterday.
Friday the HVAC folks listened to us and our explanation of what we thought was wrong. we were right. there was some mistake wiring it initially. the remotes and units in the rooms were not matched up. when we used a remote in room 1 to turn on air conditioning, it turned on air in room #2, while room #1 stayed on just fan. etc. it was not quite as easy as that sounds, but basic electrical connections were wrong. at first I thought the remotes themselves were dedicated to a particular unit, and someone got them mixed up. regardless, it now works right. it was an easy fix for the service guy once the problem was recognized. DH and I are trying to figure how many billable hours we can charge them for figuring it out for them! whatever! just glad it works. system is terrific, many times our main floor is OK temp wise, but upstairs gets too warm, and we had to turn on the whole house air conditioning. this cools right where its needed so will be MUCH less costly to run.

so we left early Saturday am and drove 11 hours here. it is lovely here but general area is very busy, being a near a nat park. plan on a week or maybe a little more here with much longer trips in sept and oct. big thunder and lightning storm last night but no rain, and I slept right thru it.

Hi all,

No workout today, just did not feel like it. I have been so sluggish this week, except for the steps, I have not wanted to do anything. I think it's the heat

Carolyn, thanks for getting us started today. Anyone who gets here first on Sundays, please start the thread for the week. :) Thanks for the info on the KCM cardio DVD.

Judy, I don't blame you for going to HR and letting them know how you feel about that assignment with no training etc. I hope they follow through and put you back in the garden center. Like everyone agrees, plumbing and electrical are probably the worst departments to be in. You have to have some kind of knowledge about those thing.

Valerie, great that the AC issue was fixed and you were able to go to MT. The best thing about that type system is the ability to turn it on only in the rooms you want to cool. Also saves a ton of money. I have figured out how to use the timer on the remotes to have it go on at a certain time, but have never been able to figure out how to have it turn off automatically. As for grand jury, if it was regular jury duty, I would be calling from home the night before to see if I have to go in. This one is waaaayy different. 3-4 weeks of going 2-3 days a week, especially this time of year. UGH! I have to take the subway down there, parking is impossible....The whole thing has really upset me.

Diane Sue, thanks for the KCM cardio info. How is your neck feeling?

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Today is my rest day as well. I did a 17 minute Sarah Beth Yoga on YouTube that was seated slow yoga. It was a nice stretch. I have been reading about degeneration in the neck problems and I read that doing things like down dog in yoga puts more pressure on the neck and shoulder area. I kind of figured that. So, while I am trying to get past this, I am taking it easy on the area. When I did the stretching this last week I was careful with the down dog move and worked on getting hamstrings stretched with knees slightly bent and hands closer in so I wouldn't put so much pressure on my shoulders. Yesterday we spent all day working at our church and laid new floor tile in the outside classroom. We did not get home till 8:30. Lots of other things this week. Workouts will probably be shorter a lot.

Deb, I have ha a harder time lately pushing to do my workouts. Just picking out the right one for the day takes up time. I put them in and realize they are too much for the neck and shoulders and take them back out. Neck is better though. I see the arthritis specialist Thursday.

Valerie, that is great news that it was not a difficult fix and things are working well now.

Hi all,

Well another UTI developed last night....going to try to get into my group Same Day Care this morning.....good thing I saw the urologist a couple weeks ago, she set up an ultra sound of my bladder.

Everyone have a good day!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Strong & Sweaty PHA and this morning I did a 30 minute Peloton ride.

Deb-I'm so sorry that you have another UTI :( I hope you get over this one quickly. I don't blame you for being upset about the jury duty. That sounds like a very stressful scenario.

Diane Sue-I have some neck issues too and I am very careful with certain yoga poses and also some ab/core moves that aggravate it. It sounds like you had a busy day yesterday. I'm feeling better doing shorter workouts now. I think I might try to get into a routine of doing a Peloton ride in the morning and a short strength workout in the evening.

Carolyn-I hope you enjoyed your rest day!

Valerie-That's good that you got your AC fixed and made it to Montana.

Hi to Lori,

Judy

This morning I did Ellen Barrett’s Fusion Flow, a yoga/dance/pilates type workout. It was 46 minutes and 184 calories burned. My average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate was 148. I plan to do lower intensity workouts this week, sort of an active recovery week.

Deb, so sorry to hear that you have another UTI. Hopefully you are able to see a doctor today.

Valerie, I’m glad that the A/C problem was easy to fix and you were able to travel without too much of a delay.

Diane Sue, you are wise to be careful with your neck and shoulders. Chair yoga is a great way to get a good stretch without causing shoulder pain.

Judy, great job with PHA and a peloton ride.

Hello to Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good morning.. Deb so sorry about a new UTI. best get on it immediately, and keep the U/S appt. best if you find a reason for why you keep getting repeats.

yes, we are glad the "air" problem was not too complicated. they were smart to pay attention to what we told them. we spent some serious time comparing what the remotes said, and what was actually happening in each room, and it takes a while to get that info.. we are pleased with how it works. so many times we had to turn on "whole house" when we only needed to cool down the upstairs.

we mt biked this morning for 2 hours, about 5 miles. the elevation makes it hard, tho the trail didn't have too much elevation gain but a lot of rocks and roots. had to walk multiple sections, buy that is still exercise. I did better on the way down but still got off several times. then drove to town for groceries. my first day here I'm so tired I can't do much, but the second day I'm better.

This morning I did Low Impact Circuit cardio and Lower premix, 59 minutes, heart rate average 130, max 175, 353 calories, 4,821 steps. It was a busy morning. I went to Walgreens to get the Shingles vaccine, and I don't know why they told me I could get it when I called. They asked then if it was my second vaccine and I said no my first. Then I get in there and they tell me they have it, but are saving it for those that need their second ones. Just in case they run low. So, they told me about a nearby small pharmacy that I didn't even know existed. I went there and got it. Such a nice pharmacy and the employees were super nice. It was quick and I was out. Two other women came in right after me wanting to get the shingrix vaccine. I was the only customer there at first. I have my grandchildren here this afternoon.

Deb, I am so sorry that you have another uti infection. I hope they can find a way to make that stop.

Judy, I have kind of liked the shorter workouts. Less fatigue later and I have more time to get other things done. Having neck pain is not joke. I can tolerate a lot of things, but that gets me down quickly. I am on a mission not to set it off.

Carolyn, nice work on the yoga fusion workout. The yoga I did was sitting on the floor. A lot was sitting cross legged and doing a flow/stretch with the arms that you could feel lengthening around the core and then would do a hip lift with hands behind and crossed knees on the floor. It worked well for me without aggravating.

Valerie, I am glad to here that you made it and have enjoyed a ride already.

diane sue, that is why I could not get the vaccine, saving for people who had #1 and needed #2. pharmacies should train their people better.

I did Pyramid Pump upper this afternoon because had an hour before dinner and I had that prepped ahead of time. I can get by with 5,8, and 10 but really need 12 and 15 for this one.

Good morning,

In the middleof trying to address the UTI issue, my desktop computer is now on the fritz..."when. I rains....". They did not want to send on the script for meds, unti the lab results were in, pretty adamant about it, even though the last time, they pretty much "encouraged me" to start on the meds before the results. You can't win with this stuff. If it wan't for that OTC "AZO", I would be climbing the walls. I still may just ask for the same med as last time be sent in, as this OTC stuff is not working as well as it was yesterday.

Judy, nice workouts! Sorry about your neck issue. That idea of a ride in the morning and a short strenght workout in the evening sounds good.

Carolyn, that yoga/dance/pilates workout sounds like fun.

Valerie, that sounds like a good ride, even only 5 miles, with that type of terrain, it is definitly a good workout!.

Diane Sue, that is pretty typical about the small pharmacy, and getting good service etc. Great that you found the place and were able to get the vaccine.

Hi to Lori,

Take care

Today I did a workout from Jessica Smith’s Build Balance and Inner Strength dvd. It was called Poise and Grace and used 1 set of light dumbbells. It was 35 minutes and 212 calories burned. My average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate was 147. It was a high reps workout with some focus on balance and standing core.

Deb, I hope that you get your lab results soon and can start an appropriate treatment. Computer problems can be very frustrating.

Diane Sue, I’m glad that you could get The Shingrix vaccine at another pharmacy after the confusion at Walgreens. Walgreen is where I got mine. I knew that it was available because the Pharmacist tried to convince me to get the shot when I picked up my prescription. I didn’t do it that day, but went back a few days later. Low Impact Circuit is one of my favorite workouts.

Valerie, nice job with Pyramid Pump Upper.

Hello to Judy and Lori.

there are lots of ways to categorize rides for difficulty.... overall length, width of trail/ road, elevation gain, and rocks and roots. single track is harder than double track or a road. riding rocks/ roots is more "technical" skill. I am not too great at rocks and roots, better than I used to be. trails in MT are more difficult because of the rockiness. we ride a lot more elevation gain and loss in WA but the trails are generally smoother.

it is awfully warm here. we don't think we will stay as long as planned. we got our blinds fixed today. original installation was not done quite right. they were mounted too low so kept dragging on the carpet, plus a few other things. not something we could fix ourselves.

Deb you have to remember your bout with c. diff. it makes a doctor reluctant to prescribe the wrong antibiotic and then have to switch to another one after a few days, upping your chances of another round of c diff. my mother used to swear by cranberry juice to relieve symptoms. she was almost in a constant UTI. iI've never done it but I've heard about it and it will help with hydration. Lots of fluids! hope they get the culture and sensitivity back ASAP so they can get you going on something.

I am holding off on Shingrix until I get my medicare info in august.

This morning I did Rev'd Up Rumble 42 minutes, 250 calories, heart rate 135 average, 167 max, 3,378 steps. I followed it with the Calorie Crush 9 minutes, 55 calories, heart rate 130 average, max 155, 980 steps. I was surprised at the calorie crush heart rate since it is way more intense than Rev'd Up Rumble. Total time was 51 minutes, 328 calories, and 3,706 steps. I had two grandchildren here this morning and then went for my Smart Beat Screening. I go back in two weeks for my doctor to go over the results with me. It has been so busy lately. I just keep writing things in my calendar and trying to just focus on one day at a time. My shoulder feels pretty good most of the time. I don't know what is up though, as I wake in the night and my neck, shoulder and elbow all are throbbing. Once I am up and moving they feel good. I was a bit worried about the pressure on that upper arm with the Smart Beat screening, but it did not bother me. I got in more steps as I had to do a 3 minute exercise of stepping off and on a step bench :)

Valerie, that is probably a good idea to wait till you get your medicare stuff in order. I remember my niece having uti a lot and drinking cranberry juice routinely.

Deb, I hope you can get some help. The pharmacy was really so close to Walgreens. It was in a little new strip mall off the main street. Walgreens said that it is because they are a large pharmacy and get more customers so, saving enough for the second vaccines needs to be done right now. The lady that told me about the other one, said she kind of hated sending their customers somewhere else.

Carolyn, nice workout today. I always forget how much I like Low Impact Circuit.

Today I did Kelly Coffey Cardio Quick Fix both workouts, 45 minutes, met 7.6, heart rate 144 average, 179 max, 304 calories, 4,486 steps. I then did the Cardio Quick FIx BOnus glutes, abs, hips, 15 minutes, heart rate average 108, max 141, 398 calories, met 4.0. I finished with Raw abs finisher, 19 minutes, 56 calories, met 4.0, 281 steps, heart rate average 100, max 139. Total time was 79 minutes, 403 calories, 5,165 steps.

Today I did JS 40 Minute Mega Burn which was 40 minutes and 293 calories burned. Average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 169.

Diane Sue, I considered doing that workout this morning, but decided to go with Jessica instead. Nice job.

Waving hello to everyone. Have a wonderful day.

Well, I had the zostavax vaccine a few years ago but I'm told I should get this one too so as soon as I clear up what coverage I will have, I will look to get on a list.

Deb, hope you are feeling OK. a UTI really wipes you out though. you should make a point of trying cranberry juice as a preventive measure. juice with a bigger per cent of actual cranberry is best, rather than apple or grape etc.

yesterday I did Revd up rumble too like you did diane sue. I did the core workout along with it.
today we drove to a new area and rode about 3 hours. some was easy, some was a climb. a little warm for that, and the elevation is high besides. about 8.5 miles . we made a wrong turn somewhere and had to go back down what wed just climbed, but overall a nice area with lots of tree cover and nice trails. used for xc skiing in winter. this was near Bozeman and we were able to do our shopping afterwards and still got home by 2 pm.

Carolyn, nice workout today. I have only done Jessica Smith workouts on YouTube.

Valerie, I find I really like the Lite Series workouts a lot. I keep wanting to pull them out. That was a nice long ride.

Deb, sending prayers your way.

Hi to Judy and Lori

Today I did JS Upper Body Circuit from her Boost Metabolism + Muscle dvd. It was 35 minutes and 172 calories burned. My average heart rate was 115 and maximum heart rate was 153. This a nice, challenging workout even though it’s short. I also did Ellen Barrett’s Yogini Sculpt, yoga with light resistance. I used 2# dumbbells. That was 30 minutes and 112 calories burned. Average heart rate was 106 and maximum heart rate was 128.

Deb, I hope you are feeling better today. Good luck with your computer issue.

Valerie, great job with Rev’d Up Rumble. I like that one too. I am impressed with how often you add core workouts into your day.

Diane Sue, Jessica has some great workouts on YouTube, but I think her dvds are better. They are harder than they first appear to be, but easy to modify for any level.

Judy, I hope your work week is going better.

Hello to Lori. We miss you here.

Carolyn I usually set up a premix that includes the main workout followed by core, then stretch . if there's no delay and I don't have to fuss with the disk to go to bonuses, I'm more likely to "just do it". I like core work.

we hiked this morning early, about 3 hours. not a real specific destination but just uphill to a ridge saddle with lots of flowers. its a trail we might be able to ride so we wanted to see if it would be OK or too hard. might be OK but not when its this warm. we got back to the car about 11 and it was very warm. not my favorite season at all. love the flowers, do not like the heat. the drive there was on some of the worst road you can imagine. we thought it might have been graded since we were last here, but no. there are two separate routes that go from one spot.

Yes, Lori hope if you can't post you are still able to follow along with us. Deb, let us know you are doing OK. a UTI and a computer problem is a definite "no win" situation.
