Good Morning!

Not sure if any of our Penta ladies made it over here today... I hope you didn't have problems getting signed on. It is so humid here... I am dripping right after my shower.

Garance:
How was the vacation? Tell us what nice relaxing things you did!

Linny:
How is work going? Did you try that Turbo Jam workout yet?

Josie:
OUr Gazelle! Is it as hot in LA as it has been all over Ca?

Have a great day!

Deb

I'm back!

Hi Deb and Linny and Josie (?)--

This morning I did 4ds Kickbox with legs and abs (70 min.).

The Jersey Shore was great--not a single day of bad weather, and even though it was in the 90s in Philadelphia, at the shore the temp was in the 80s with a beautiful breeze. Lots of great waves for DH to bodysurf and for me to bob in and the water was pretty warm.

We either did takeout or went out to dinner every night, which I thoroughly enjoy as a break from cooking. There's a great restaurant in Cape May--the Mad Batter--for a splurge dinner ($$$), and lots of good seafood places and great pizza.

We didn't do anything "exciting" I guess, but just read good beach books, worked on our tans, and enjoyed the water. I went for my 3 mile walk every day, so I wasn't a complete slug, but I also wanted to have a break from working out.

I will have to check on last week's thread to see what you ladies have been up to. It's humid here too, Deb, but I am still enjoying my summer.

Hi,

Garance:

I'm glad you made it over here... the old threads are gone...I hope Linny and Josie find there way here! YOur vacation sounds exactly like what I like to do..no committments, no frantic schedules to "see all there is to see" ..I love just being carefree and doing all relaxing things. I did 4DS biceps & triceps today and a mouse ran across the basement floor while I was doing dips.. I thought I would drop to the floor it startled me so badly.. DH has since put out a couple of traps.

How do you like the new forum? I am still getting used to it.. so much to learn!

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Deb--

Where are you, Linny? Lost in cyberspace??

This morning I did 4ds LIS with shoulders, calves, and abs (66 min.).

Gosh, we should call this the vermin thread. Groundhogs, bats, mice, and rabbits galore seem to be a regular part of our discussion. I jump at mice and spiders every time, too. I would have landed on my butt.

I don't know about you, Deb, but I am getting a bit impatient about this STS series. It may be the next best thing to heaven, but it will probably get sent when I have no time or patience to absorb all of its protocols. There hasn't been an update since June 24 on the blog. Some films are made faster than this. Call me GRUMPY.

I went back to last week and the thread was still there. Sounds like Linny is buying some new fitness gear. I decided to buy a kettlebell. When it comes, I have no idea what to do with it. That's my next problem--finding an instructional DVD to go with it. Sigh!

Hope Linny and Josie find us!

Good Morning!

Rhonda:
Absolutely join in! We welcome all ...there are not too many of us over 50 & Beyond!

Garance:
I too have been thinking that if they don;t come out with STS soon, I may complain...how perfect does it have to be? I want to still be able to physically do it when it comes out! I have been toying with the kettlebell idea.. there are some people in the Melting ladies thread that have them and have many suggestions on good DVD's ...There was a post there yesterday, or maybe Monday that had a link to a new site that supposed to have a really good 45 minute one... I may go over there.. what weight did you get? Did you get the one at TArget? It comes with a DVD but it is just a basic one to learn moves etc, not very challenging.

Linny & Jose: Where are you???

Well it looks like they finally fixed the sort order of the posts...they were staying in place and you had to go to page 45 to find a recent post! I have not gotten into all the blog stuff and "friends" things... a little much for me!

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Ladies,

I was on vacaiton and when I returned, my work had piled up so much that I have been very busy.

I did not workout last week at all so that was 2 weeks without doing anything and I felt lik a stuffed sausage. I also had my 2 grandkids over from last Thursday through Sunday and that left me exhausted.

I went to a self defence class on Monday and yesterday I did my boot camp at the gym plus 2 miles on the elliptical.

I will get back as soon as I can.

Have a great day!

Josie

Still grumpy

Hi Deb, Josie, and Rhonda (the knitter??)--

This morning I did 4ds HIS with chest and back (58 min.).

Deb:
I will have to check the melters' thread for DVD suggestions. I bought a 15-pounder from MuscleDriver.com. My local Target is utterly useless. After all the ballyhoo about this Target opening, it is, as per usual, an inferior version of the chain--a "limited availability" Target. Translation: none of the stuff you really want. Gosh, I AM grumpy. It's this move. There's a truck right outside my window, and it's been there now for three weeks (I thought it would be gone by the time I got back from vacation!), and they are moving all of the rare book collection with this hydraulic lift that goes right through me like scratching fingernails on a blackboard. My office is pretty well stripped down of anything that made it feel inviting (posters, photos, rugs), so that contributes to my Grumpy-dwarf demeanor.

Welcome back, Josie! Surely caring for grandchildren counts as a workout. Hope your vacation was as relaxing as mine. Did you go to Mexico? As I remember, it was a more exotic destination than my Jersey Shore. Maybe I should have checked in with Cathe to kvetch about the prolonged release date of STS. On the other hand, why ruin a good vacation?

Join in, Rhonda, by all means. I am currently working on a cashmere/silk yarn sweater with bell sleeves and a fluttery scalloped collar that was supposed to be easy, but is turning into a long-lasting craft with the slipperiness of the yarn. Hope I am right and you are the knitter.

Linny, where are you??

I am the knitter

News since last communication:

1. During the month of July, teaching Extended School Year summer school for students with disabilities. Need the money so working this summer. Been having a good time with the students.

2. New teaching job in the fall....at different high school. Really excited!

3. Have maintained weight loss of 25 pounds. Going downstairs to do Step, Jump, and Pump as soon as done with post.

4. Have been cleaning the carpets for last two weeks and will be glad to get done.

5. Been knitting lots of socks and scarfs because they are portable. Trying to finish two sweaters that have been on the needles to long, before casting on a new one. Have not been quilting.

I really like this new forum set-up. It has similarities to Ravelry, which is a knitting community. (Ravelry: Squeakerman)

Regards,

Rhonda

grumpy still and soggy, too

Hi Deb, Rhonda, Josie, and Linny (?)--

This morning I did 4ds Bootcamp with bis and tris (62 min.). Incredibly humid here, so I had a pretty soggy time of it. It just keeps raining, and raining, and raining......

Well, I found a kettlebell DVD yesterday that looks pretty good. I feel like I need some new stuff because I am in such a rut with 4ds, Leslie, Christi, Ellen Barrett, and the Firm Dance Fusion. I was hoping to have STS by now. I feel like I need to whine here. For goodness' sake, when are we going to get this series???!

Sooo--on Monday the movers come to pack my books. I will have to work at home for two weeks before I can get into my new office. What a relief it will be to have the move over.

So I was right, Rhonda, you are the knitter. I'm just an average knitter, but I find it very relaxing.

Back to work here! ttfn

Oh My God!!!

Hi Ladies:I thought I'd never be able to talk to you again.I could not sign in and I tried contacting Cathe.com for new password and they never got back to me.I did read that some members had to make new email addresses so I started a Yahoo account so I could join in again.Whew! Glad it worked.Well I'm still on vacation this week, home for tonite due to bad weather. We had a tornado 2 miles away from where we stay on the lake.We had picked up DGD's to spend the night at lake but didn't feel quite safe with no basement to go into if need be. The tornado demolished a house and killed a 57 yr old woman and damaged 50-100 houses. I am so glad we were far away picking up DGD's when tornado hit. I'll have to check in later, going to have fun with DGD's now.Have a good all you ladies~Linny~:)

Humid & Soggy Here too!

Good Morning Ladies!

Today I did a 35 minute I-Tread. I have been pretty lax on the workouts lately.. due to puppy craziness around here! I know that sounds pretty dumb but it's like having a 2 year old!

Garance:
I forgot to mention that I got the Murad and love it! I don;t know what benefits it is supposed to have for your skin, but I love the way it goes on and how it feels. I too am getting really impatient about STS. Did you go over to the Melting thread to see the Kettlebell workout link? It was in Tuesday's thread.

Linny:
My goodness...so glad to hear you avoided the tornado! Did you get much damage? A lot of people had some problems with this new site stuff.. some of it still doesn't work right. I can;t get the Workout Manager to work...I am just glad they fixed the way the post threads sort.

Rhonda:
Do you do much knitting in the summer? What workouts have you been doing? Did you order STS?

Have a great day!

Deb:D

Sunny and beautiful here today!

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Rhonda--

This morning I did Cackle and Shriek aka Leslie Sansone' 4 Fast and Firm Miles (59 min.)

I am so glad you like the Essential-C stuff, Deb. I bet you will notice a difference in texture after awhile--less dullness and a bit of a glow for me. I love the way it goes on too, and as a perfect base for foundation.

My kettlebell arrived yesterday. It's a 15 pounder, but for some reason--holding it by the handle??--it feels heavier than my 15 pound dumbbell. I am awaiting my DVD which I learned about over at the open discussion.

So glad you found us, Linny. How are the hives? (Dare I ask??).

Do you get Vogue Knitting, Rhonda? The last sweater I finished was from their Winter designs from a couple years ago. It was a multi-colored beauty, and I am really pleased with it, but also pretty p-offed because I have tons (!) of leftover yarn--skeins that I haven't even started. So I am looking for another sweater pattern to use some of it up--if and when I finish my current project.

Hi,

Well it's the weekend and it looks like it will be a good one.. hope someone checks in....

Garance:
I am trying to get the Essential C day cream on Ebay...I went over to the Murad site and almost caved in to the new Resurgence Regime stuff that is a special going on for $39.95, until I saw that it is one of those "membership" deals where they bill your credit card $39.95 a month and keep sending you stuff...Yikes! I certainly don;t want that...if you only want it once, it's $49.95....I hate when they pull this garbage on you!

Linny:
You must be at the lake!

Josie & Rhonda:
Any fun plans for the weekend?

Deb

HI, I just found this check-in and would like to join. Rhonda, I notice you are a teacher, too. What do you teach? I teach Spanish at a high school and am thoroughly enjoying my vacation...except for a recent surgery that I had that will keep me from doing any intense exercise for 6 weeks.

Welcome!

Hi,

First off, WELCOME to La La1! We would love to have you here. There are some things that only us Over 50 and Beyond ladies can understand! LOL:rolleyes:..

Well I went to our local Target to find a KB and they did not have any...it figures., I knew I should have gone to the bigger one...maybe this afternoon when DH and I go to lunch!..I may try a sporting goods store instead.

Deb

Saturday's cleaning day!

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, Rhonda and lala1 (welcome!)--

No exercise for me today--except cleaning house.

Deb, I sent for "The Ultimate Body Sculpt and Conditioning with Kettlebells" from On the Edge Fitness. The instructor is Lauren Brooks. I received it in the mail yesterday, and I am going to preview it this afternoon. Part of it is a teaching demonstration of the moves. Then there's a Fat Blast workout at low to medium intensity; a Sculpt and conditioning workout at medium to high intensity; a joint mobility routine as a warmup or cooldown; and some ab-blasting core workouts. It was recommended over at the Open forum, so I went to the website and looked at some of the videoclips. I bought my kettlebell from muscledriver.com. They had a good price, a free T-shirt, and very fast service--but shipping is a problem.

lala1: I'm a teacher too--a Professor of English at Williams College in Massachusetts. Trying to do some writing this summer, but it's been hectic because of a move into a new office building. I'm a Sylvia Plath scholar (2 books), and I write articles on film, too. Currently writing a book on Ted Hughes.

Guess I will take a look at my DVD.
