Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 7/09/2023

Good morning. I did my weekly Jane Adams yoga/mobility today for 18 minutes. I’m happy to say that everything is back to normal for us with no more emergency situations.

Judy, thanks for starting us off this week.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Cardio Dance Low Impact and STS 2.0 Mat Yoga. I’m glad that you were able to keep your appointment and get the test completed.

Valerie, nice job walking in the park. Hopefully the part for your bike will come in soon.

Hello to Cathy.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Did a road ride this morning, 25 miles 2 hrs 6 minutes. temp was lovely, about 65 and sunny. sunday is the lowest traffic day in farm areas. we need to ride busier highways for very short sections in 3 places to get over rivers on the only existing bridges but each is only maybe a quarter of a mile. early on sunday morning the first two are not bad, and the third one has a narrow walkway on one side that is rideable. that is a very busy highway. I've seen bikes ride over in traffic but I'm not. we have a route preplanned and riding on the road would put us on the wrong side with no way to get across safely. this walkway is narrow but rideable unless there are walkers. then everyone has to walk.

Judy thank you for taking over the weekly thread start process.
Carolyn the bike shop has generated a lot of their own problems by not being very organized. theyve taken my bike apart and put it back together several times now after finding that what they thought would fit did not. I'm sure they want to get this project done as much as we do. its weird because the original reason I wanted the upgrade has resolved itself and I dont really need it anymore. the carpal tunnel release helped a lot.
we had the misfortune to ride thru a cloud of sprinkler water spraying over a farm field that could not be avoided. wind blew it over the entire road. it smelled like manure. I am washing all our clothes. sometimes the fields are fertilized like that and there's no way to tell if the mist actually had manure mixed in , or if it was just the odor of the wet fertilized fields. big dairy cow area. a hazard of riding in farm country.

Yesterday I did a 30 minute Peloton Ride and 10 minutes of arms. Today I did STS 2.0 Lower Body #1. I modified the barbell hip thrusts, using a dumbbell and doing them on the floor.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams yoga/mobility. I’m glad everything is back to normal.

Valerie-Great ride!

Cathy-Great job with Upper Body 2 and all the steps at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Hi to Diane Sue

This morning I did Body Parts Biceps, Express premix. My time was 31 minutes with 139 calories burned. My average heart rate was 117 and maximum heart rate was 148.

Valerie, your ride sounds nice except for the part about getting hit with the sprinkler!

Judy, great job with the Peloton ride, Arms, and STS 2.0 Lower Body 1. I do the same thing for the hip thrusts. After trying several options, the floor with dumbbell works best for me.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

Today I did STS 2 Body Parts Biceps, 44 minutes, 110 calories. I lightened up a bit today. I do not want to cause things to start up again. I also did STS 2 Chair Yoga, 20 minutes, 28 calories. Funny as I started checking my workouts with the Withings App which is connected to my garmin and MFP and it gives me different calorie burns. Chair Yoga was 66 calories. Just interesting. I do my blood pressure and scale with that app and bluetooth.

Yesterday we did the Columbus Zoo and it was a good visit, but it was much hotter. Real feel 95 and that was way above my comfort zone. There is a fair amount of shade and in places a breeze, but I was glad that I had ice in both my water bottles. Drive home wasn't the direction, I'd planned but worked okay as we hit the potentially busy areas after rush hour. I hadn't planned to go up past Toledo and Ann Arbor, but I wasn't paying attention to options when I hit go on the directions. LOL I just finished doing STS 2 Upper Body 1 and Friday I'll start the second 6 weeks of the 12 weeks rotation which is all parts workouts. No workout tomorrow as I have an 8:15 tire rotation and then I'll go to the zoo and walk.

Diane Sue nice job with STS 2 Body Parts Biceps.

Carolyn great job with Jane Adams yoga/mobility and Body Parts Biceps Express premix.

Judy nice job with 30 minute Peloton Ride and 10 minutes of arms and STS 2 Lower Body 1.

Valerie sounds like you got in a good ride, but YIKES on having to ride through that sprinkler! Hope you got rid of all the smell. I never realized that sometimes when they are watering the fields it's more than just water. That's quite a pain that they keep taking your bike apart only to find out the part doesn't work. Hopefully next time they get it right.

its a way to fertilize fields. we didn't smell bad when we dried out, which only took a couple minutes but we had smelled manure so was a good reason to be sure and run things thru the shower and the washer. it was pretty breezy. no way to walk around the spray zone. we didnt realize until we were in it and then its way too late. it also may have been manure spread on the field itself, the farmer watering with plain water. I prefer to think of it that way.

this bike shop is 20 miles away. changing things out on road bikes is not straightforward. so many brands and combinations of components. my bike is not new. 10 yrs or so old. its a Trek so a major brand. its a smaller frame size that fits me, something not easy to find. my legs are long for my height but my torso is short and its often an issue with bikes.
the last few years electric bikes have been the hot item. plain road bikes have been almost unavailable. patching new components into older ones is not simple especially a switch to electronic from mechanical. backwards compatibility etc. I appreciate they are trying to do it right. they are good guys and treat us well since we've bought quite a few bikes from them.

we will do a shorter ride this morning. Ive only been doing therapy work. not feeling very good lately. getting some more testing done today.

ETA did the 15 mile usual ride this morning, 1 hr 15.. did therapy work later. went thru a test procedure this afternoon that was normal, no loss of nerve conduction. what a relief. ticking these off one at a time with only one left. next week.

This morning I did Body Parts Triceps. My time was 42 minutes with 154 calories burned. Average heart rate was 109 and maximum energy rate was 139.

Diane Sue, great job with Body Parts Biceps and Chair Yoga.

Cathy, great job with STS 2.0 Upper Body 1.

Waving hello to Valerie and Judy.

Today I did STS 2 Body Parts Triceps 44 minutes (actual is 37 minutes) 92 calories, heart rate 84/136. I followed this wih STS 2 Active recovery which I think that I should have used first to get moving, 12 minutes, 35 calories, heart rate 97/109. I was going to do a 20 minute cardio with Michelle Briehler before the weights, but Youtube went blank and I had to turn the tv off and back on to get out of it. I tried again and it went to the ads and froze saying video would start after ads. I gave up as it was wasting time and I needed to be done because I had my barstools coming and was not sure if the lawn guy was coming since it poured rain again early this morning. Workout was 58 minutes, 117 calories. I was not planning on using the Fit Tower, but my door anchor kept making toe door pop open. I had to move things and get out the tower. Cathe was talking and I paused the dvd and got out the tower then realized there was the boss band option. I did not need to get out the tower. Next time I will know. I did go light because I do not want to cause the pain to come back.

Cathy nice job getting in STS 2 Upper Body 1. 95 is pretty warm for walking around the zoo. we got up to the 90's today after it rained really early in the morning. I went out this afternoon thinking I was going to fertilize some plants and soon changed my mind. I need to do that in the morning early. We have sure had a lot of rain for this time of year. Our yard had standing water this morning.

Valerie, I had no idea that they put other stuff through the sprinklers, let alone it being manure. It seems the smell would have been pretty strong on your clothes. I bet it was water. I am sorry that you are not feeling good lately. I hope it is not serious.

Carolyn, nice job on STS 2 body parts triceps today. You do better than I do on the heart rate and calorie burns with the parts workouts. Are you doing one of the STS rotations? I am just doing the 8 week and hope to make it through all of it.

diane sue these are huger impact sprinklers that spray a plume of water (guessing here) 100 feet in the air in an arc or a semicircle. if its windy the mist carries. I'm pretty sure they can use a mixture of dilute manure. we've smelled it before, but this is farm and dairy country so there are frequent manure smells. we couldn't smell anything on ourselves after, but to be sure, all went into the machine when we got home. we also hit the shower. there used to be more dairy than there is now. its more fruit and vegetables now. the whole valley is agricultural. its flat and low traffic. perfect for riding.

No workout this morning as I had the early tire rotation. Was hoping I could get to the zoo by 9 after an 8:15 appointment and I was at the zoo just a little after 8:30. When Derek is working, I am to be ignored. LOL Now the times he's worked in the gift shop, he would chat with me, but when he's in education mode with a group, I don't even rate a nod of acknowledgment. LOL

We have those sprayers in fields around here, but I've never noticed a manure smell with them. They rarely impact areas outside the fields though. Crops are pretty sad looking around here. Normally they'd already be combining wheat and it's not close. And the cornfield next to us has areas where it didn't even grow. Nice ride yesterday. Glad your test was normal.

Carolyn great job with Body Parts Triceps.

Diane Sue to bad you can't direct some of that rain to Michigan. We had a chance this morning, but it appeared to stay south of the border with Indiana. Looks like we might get some early evening. We'll see. Nice job with STS 2 Body Parts Triceps and Active Recovery. Sorry you had technical issues with the rest of what you wanted to do. That is always a pain.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, which was 25 minutes and 170 calories burned. My average heart rate was 127 and maximum heart rate was 146. Then I did Foam Rolling Upper Body, something that I really needed after the Body Parts Biceps and Triceps.

Diane Sue, great job with Body Parts Triceps. We used similar weights on the barbell. I used the green Boss Band instead of getting out the Tower which worked well. I’m also doing the 8 week rotation.

Cathy, nice job with getting the tire rotation done and walking at the zoo.

Hello to Valerie and Judy.

Edited to add: I saw on Facebook that Lisa, who was in many of Cathe’s DVDs including Step Boss, passed away. She was so young. Lisa is the one behind Jai in IMAX 4. Cathe is dedicating tomorrow’s Live to her.

Yesterday I did a 20 minute Peloton ride and Body Parts Triceps Express Premix. Today I did ICE CLB, Muscle Meltdown Shoulders and Icy Core 2.

Carolyn-Great job with Body Parts Biceps, Express premix, Body Parts Triceps, Cardio Quick Fix, workout one and Foam Rolling Upper Body. I saw that post about Lisa on Facebook. That is so sad. It’s good that Cathe is dedicating tomorrow’s Live workout to her.

Valerie-I’m sorry you haven’t been feeling well. That’s good that your test result was normal. Nice job with your ride and therapy work.

Diane Sue-Great job with Body Parts Biceps, Chair Yoga, Body Parts Triceps and Active Recovery.

Cathy-Great job with Upper Body 1. We are getting some rain now and it looks like it will be raining most of the evening. I hope your area got some rain today too.

Today I did CDorner Step Aerobics #235, 33 minutes heart rate 128/146, 161 calories. I then did STS 2 Standing Abs Metabolic+no equipment abs premix, 19 minutes, heart rate 117/142, 85 calories and finished with STS 2 mobility 2, 17 minutes, 27 calories. Total time was 60 minutes, 273 calories, 3,339 steps.
I saw the results for my chest CT and they called me today and are going to set me up with a pulmonologist since I lost the one I had. They will send results to whoever it is. They said there were some changes that they are concerned about. So I guess I get another doctor to visit. My daughter things they will give me an inhaler after she read the report. We will see I guess.

Valerie, just the thought about the smell would make me want to wash everything.

Cathy, you probably get a decent workout walking the zoo, It seems like I have mostly seen wheat growing here. A lot of land with cows too. In Nebraska it was lots of wheat, corn, and potatoes grown. I remember the irrigation, not sprayers. It was not supposed to rain today, but we did get a few drops when a cloud went over. My daughter told us today that she was out with a friend and there was a terrible smell and dead birds all over. Someone asked if the had heard the news and apparently, they were killed with that huge hailstorm the other night. We had hail that was up to baseball size.

Carolyn, nice work on Kelly Coffey Cardio Quick Fix 1 and the STS 2 foam rolling upper body. Cathe does some good moves with the foam roller. Much like some CDorner has done. I use my favorite moves from the workouts to roll on my own a lot. I thought it seemed like our timing on the STS 2 workouts seemed similar. I saw heard that about Lisa yesterday. That is terribly sad.

I did stacked upper body and a ton of therapy work. lots of abs involved. tomorrow DH has a spinal injection since he has developed a similar sort of back problem to mine but not as significant. feels like this parade of doctors and procedures won't stop. his is an injection that's not a big deal but they require a driver for it and then hes supposed to take a quiet day which will make him ornery. I will do shopping. started to do it today but there was an unexplained power out that closed an entire shopping area including costco. very weird. no reason for it except there is some road revision going on nearby and Im guessing that might have been the cause.

diane sue I actually found I was getting doctors names confused so I rearranged my phone contact list to put them all under "D" so its easier to find. there's a list I can go to, get reminded of their names. between DH and myself its quite a list so I know what you mean. Hope it turns out to be nothing concerning.

I have a backache much of the time now. no pain, just an ache. I started a different med for it and it makes me feel a little drifty as I get adjusted to it. takes a while to get to where it might help.

Today I did Body Parts Legs, Express premix. My time was 39 minutes with 173 calories burned. Average heart rate 113 and maximum heart rate 140. After that I did the Chair Yoga which was 21 minutes.

Judy, great job with the 20 minute Peloton ride, Body Parts Triceps Express, ICE CLB, Muscle Meltdown Shoulders, and Icy Core 2.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Step Aerobics and STS 2.0 Standing Abs+No Equipment Abs. The doctor referring you to another pulmonologist might be a good thing. I usually do foam rolling on my own but I like the structured workout for upper body.

Valerie, good job with Stacked Sets Upper Body and therapy exercises. I’m sorry that you have the constant pain.

Hello to Cathy.

No workout as I shopped today, which was good since I woke up at 3:30. LOL Amazingly, I'm still not really tired. Figure that will change in another hour or so.

Carolyn great job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, and foam rolling, Body Parts Legs, Express premix and Chair Yoga. I saw that about Lisa, too, so very sad.

Diane Sue nice job with CDorner Step Aerobics, and STS 2 Standing Abs Metabolic+no equipment abs. That is some really scary size hail, and some horrible consequences from it.

Valerie great job with stacked upper body and therapy exercises. I'm sorry you are having a constant backache.

Today I did STS 2 Body Parts Legs, 52 minutes, 140 calories, heartrate 101/131. I also did STS 2 foam rolling lower body and some of upper body, 25 minutes, 36 calories. Total time was 77 minutes, 176 calories. I used the bosu for the hip thrusts today and it felt more comfortable on my upper back. It is not as high as the step though. Last time I did it on the floor.
