Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/9

Today is a rest day for me. The weather is a little better, but we will have rain for at least two more days.

Judy, I really hope that work conditions get better soon for you. It doesn’t sound like the kind of job that a person could do for a long period of time.

Lori, you are on my mind too. Please take care of yourself.

Hello to Deb, Diane Sue, and Valerie.

Today I just did Raw Stretch. I decided to save Kelly's workout for today till tomorrow along with the Raw Cardio Crush or Cardio Blast dvd for tomorrow. I just need to get an early start before my daughter and grandchildren come over. It rained really hard this morning and the winds kicked up. You could hardly see it was so hard. Now the sun is out.

Deb, I spent time outside last night digging down to put stepping stones in and using dirt to fill a dip that all of the rain water has created at the end of the walk way. It was so humid and hot.

Carolyn, I hope the rain is not too bad. I think ours is supposed to let up till Friday now. I am riding with a friend Tuesday to ladies game day. The road I took last time to the other city is washed out. I think the other direction I would have chosen may be a problem as well as they were talking about that lake along that road on the news. She knows other routes and will take the turnpike. I am getting tired of so much rain. I took pictures of my Easter lilies that were blooming yesterday. Today the storm left them lying sideways in the pot.

Deb how did you and Kylee do at the trials?

We drove 11 hours yesterday and got home about 6. The drive was not bad just long . It was showery and partly cloudy. Much better for long drives than bright sun. Saturday it turns out is better than Sunday. traffic gets all jammed up here late Sunday afternoon but it was light and none of the usual congestion. It’s hard to expect the worst part of the drive right at the very end, so this worked out much better.
Our lawn is long and garden needs picking and weeding. Couple days of work for sure. We got enough rain so all was watered enough and things grew!!!

Good morning,

Lots of yard work yesterday. Still a long way to go. It was pretty hot, I had to take a few breaks and go into the house to cool down. The dogs loved being out there. Especially IKE, who is infatuated with the hose. He loves chasing the water and biting at it.

Diane Sue, I remember putting stepping stones in our perennial garden. It's a lot of work!

Valerie, we had a "double Q", which means we qualified in both of the 2 main events. Also got 1st place in both. Kylee's best runs so far. :)

I hope everyone had a nice relaxing ( or working etc) weekend.

Take care,

Congrats to you and kylee! what is the next step?

we had a good garden day yesterday, not too hot. we also found mice in one of the sheds. had not been in there long but what a mess they make. mostly equipment in there, a tiller, flamer, other garden tools. we will put in some more seed today. our broccoli didn't do well this year. got no big central heads, and bolted. some small side shoots that will have to do. seed quality has declined the last few years. not sure what is happening. much better taste and texture than store stuff, and doesn't get ripe all at the same time which is the opposite of what commercial growers want. smaller seed producers are getting squeezed and pressured by big ones. a similar thing is happening with corn, with pressure to only offer "super sweet" varieties, which to me taste so bad they are not even edible.

most of our yard is perennials. don't need to be mowed, only pruned once a year. things are getting bigger and almost too crowded. much easier to manage than a bunch of annuals.

Today I did To the Max for 56 minutes and 383 calories burned. Average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 156. Nice workout with a little bit of everything.

Valerie, glad that you made it back without problems. I have found Saturday’s to be a better driving day too.

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

Today is a busy week. This morning I got in Raw Cardio Crush, 31 minutes, 202 calories, met 7.6, 2,151 steps, heart rate average 140, max 161. That is all I had time for as I spent the day with my daughter and grandchildren. Tomorrow is my ladies game day and if I can I will get in a workout, if not I won't.

Deb, it is funny how different dogs are with water. Gertie does not like it and avoids it. I have had other dogs that totally loved to play in the water. It is fun watching them play.

Valerie, with all of their hybrids and plant crossings, I am surprised we have originals of any seeds. Nice that your plants are mostly perennials so you don't have to replant. That is what we have. Although I do love some of the annual flowering plants. Having to replant at different times of year is just not something I want to have to do.

Carolyn, nice workout today.

Hi Everyone,

Last Thursday I did the Pyramid Combo premix and yesterday I did a 30 minute Spinerval. Today I did Core Max and Stretch Max. This weekend was crazy at HD. I think it was busier than Memorial Day weekend.
I wasn't feeling well last night, felt like I was coming down with the flu or something. I almost called in sick today. I feel better tonight.

Deb-Congratulations on the double Q! That is awesome!

Valerie-Perennials are the way to go. Having to replant every year is a pain.

Carolyn-Great workout! I don't think I can do this job much longer without a break. I am pretty burned out, physically and mentally at this point.

Diane Sue-Great job with the Raw workouts! The game day sounds like fun!

Lori-Thinking of you. Hope you are doing ok.

Judy

Good morning,

Tuesday is 2 obedience classes, with a dog switch in between...lots of back and forth driving etc. I could take them both and let Ike wait for his class, but last week doing that was a disaster. He escaped from is crate twice. :(.

Judy, kudos to you for being able to keep up with your workouts with the job. It sounds like you need to maybe get out of there or at the least insist that they give you no more than 20 hours a week.

Lori, I hope things are going better for you. Miss you posting here.

Hi to everyone!

Take care,

his morning I did Kelly's Challenge workout Raw 888, 41 minutes, 265 calories, heart rate average 129, max 154, met 7.5, 1,259 steps. I have to get ready to leave in a few minutes. I got done early :)
Raw 888 is 8 rounds of 8 moves 10# dbs and a med ball used
punch, hook, upper cut, jack, squat thrust
10# curl, punch out alternating
mountain climber wide stance
lunge side to side putting weights down and picking up
med ball slam (I tapped it to the floor as I am upstairs)
side to side kicks
split switch lunges
bicycle crunches

a rough day and night. I did major shopping since we were out of food. started by picking up 3 days worth of mail. there was a notice of a planned power out last night to replace power poles, outage from 9 pm to 9 am today. Great. power went out on time. 9 was early so I tried to read for a while but didn't work too well. I thought I'd turned the light off, but missed a click, and so when the power came back on, in the middle of the night of course, way earlier than scheduled, light came on and woke me up. it was noisy. still not sure exactly where all the activity was taking place, but loud, constant humming. we would not have known about it at all! can't believe they didn't notify online! so a crummy night and I feel half dead. not sleeping well is an ongoing problem for me.

Lori I also hope for the best. Miss you!. Hope all works out OK for you. you too Judy. I was noticing how hard people work at Costco yesterday. a lot of mileage to be covered in warehouse stores. I was kind of oblivious to the distance . Hope you can cut your hours back soon and enjoy some of the summer. I hit about 6 stores yesterday and between walking from parking and around the store, I logged many MILES. again, a fitbit would not help log it since usually no arm swing when pushing a cart.

Deb, how in the world can Ike get out of his crate?

Today I did Ramped Up Upper Body for 61 minutes and 306 calories burned. My average heart rate was 115 and maximum heart rate was 149. My gardening is limited to items in pots and various flowering shrubs in the yard.

Judy, that’s great that you were able to fit in the Pyramid workout, a Spinervals ride, and Core Max plus Stretch Max. Try to get some rest and stay healthy.

Valerie, it’s no fun being awakened by the lights in the middle of the night.

Hello to Diane Sue, Deb, and Lori.

We mt biked this morning, 7 miles just under 2 hours. it helped get he juices flowing. it takes DAYS to acclimate to higher altitude, but boy does it go away fast when you come back to sea level.

Carolyn, it was my fault with the light. it's a lamp that switches to 2 brightness levels, but I have an LED bulb in it, and thought I'd turned it off but it needed one more click. Dumb. this morning found out DH had to mess with the alarm in the middle of the night too when it kept beeping because the battery needs replacing. so no one got decent rest.

I had a lot of fun with the ladies. We always start with some brunch and a visit then games. Today they took time to figure out which Tuesday was best for the next 3 months and whose house for the game days. They always try to make sure that everyone will be able to come. My daughter and grandchildren are coming over tomorrow to go swimming.

Judy, I hope that you stay well. Nice work with the Pyramid total body workout and spinerval workout.

Deb, do you have one of those fabric pop up crates? I always wondered how anyone kept their dogs from finding a way out. I suppose eventually he will get comfortable with that being a place to stay.

Valerie, I have had two nights in a row with very little sleep and today when I finally was home and able to, I laid down on the couch and crashed. I didn't notice the television my husband was watching, or the fact he had went outside with the dog. I rarely do that, I just run around keyed up and exhausted. Having things wake you up at night is miserable. Night before last, I woke at two and was so wide awake, then 4 I was starting to doze and my husbands phone started making noises letting him know he had mail or something, so that ended that. I don't take my phone in the bedroom with me when I go to bed myself. Those big stores have you walking all over the place. I usually still get a lot of steps even though I am pushing a cart. That is great that you got in a 2 hour bike ride today.

Carolyn, I miss all of the planters and flowers I had at my other houses. We just do not have many other than shrubs and flowering bushes except for the few potted ones I have near our door. I would like to have more. We cleared the morning glories out of the large front planter. But, then when I remember how much work it was to keep all of the weeds out of all of those flower beds I wonder why I miss it, but I love the smells and seeing the beauty of the plants.

Good morning,

Busy day yesterday with 2 classes and transporting dogs back and forth. It was worth it though.

Valerie, sorry about your awful night. I don't think many power companies care about what they are doing to the people in the homes that they work on. Disrupting sleep etc, is not important to them. The soft sided crates, ( which are a God send with dogs that behave and stay quiet in them like Kylee does) have zippered doors, and once they scratch the zipper closure from the inside, many times it either rips the fabric,. or just pulls the zipper down and opens the crate. It was an experiment I was doing. I brought the larger one I have, hoping that with Kylee in it with him, he would not try to get out. I have a good compromise crate for him, it is fabric, with a steel door, no zipper. The down side of that one is that it is very light, and if he scratches at the sides, it can roll over. If I was going to crate him at a trial etc, I would have to bring one of the full metal crates, and a blanket to cover it. They are just a pain to set up and take down, very heavy and awkward to carry as well.

Carolyn, I am the same as you....pots and if in the ground, they are perennials.

Diane Sue, that sounds like a fun group. What type of games did you play? It seems like most of us have a sleeping problem. I wonder if it is just age, or menopause or whatever causes it? Just so annoying.

Hi to Judy & Lori,

Take care,

We live near a casino. the local tribe built it in a residential area 15 yrs ago because it was "treaty land". it gets priority over all the people who actually live here, and so shutting down the traffic during the day would have "cost" the casino revenue. the tribe does not give a shit. the PUD could have done it in a more reasonable way but chose not to. I wont go on a tirade here but it is a grossly stacked deck against the homeowners.

I've never seen a "crate" like that. just the hard plastic boxes with the wire doors that people take pets to the vet in. If Ike got out before, he will probably get better at it.
