Good morning,

Had a good sleep, hope to work out in a bit. Not sure what the weather will be like today, I still have to do some weeding/mulching.

DH is much better, the meds seem to help his ear, and he is not dizzy any more. Just has the same feeling antihistamines give you. He is going to get blood work done, and set up an appointment with a new ENT specialist. He did not really like the one he went to last time for his ear.

Garance, what writing are you working on?

Valerie, thanks for the PM, I wrote back to you there.

Joan, when are you leaving for Disney?

I will be going to NYC for work on Tuesday afternoon, staying until very late Wednesday night. The co-working I am going with suggested going to a show while we are there. I have never been to a show in NY, what do you wear? I wasn't planning on bringing a lot of clothes since it is only one night and one full day of meetings.

Later...

Good morning all,

Deb I'm glad dh is better.

We leave on Wednesday and I'm not prepared.

The weather here has been in the 90's all week. I better make sure everything is watered before I go. After all the rain we've had you wouldn't think I'm now complaining about no rain.

Joan

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Booty Barre (63 min.).

Deb, that's good news about DH. I've been to a lot of shows in NYC, and believe me, you can wear anything, so don't worry about that. I'm working on an article about a volume of poems by Ted Hughes called Capriccio. It was originally published in a limited edition with engravings by Leonard Baskin. The poems are about his affair with Assia Wevill, who had a child by him and committed suicide and killed the child at the same time. The engravings and poems are also related to Goya's Los Caprichos and its portrait of the artist with its inscription, "The sleep of reason breeds monsters." Assia Wevill wanted her epitaph to read, "A Lover of Unreason and an Exile." Now you know more than you ever wanted to know! The show I would like to see, since it's caused such a hubbub is The Book of Mormon. Don't think it would be easy to get tickets, though.

It was a nice day for graduation, for a change! My U. of Chicago robes and velvet hat are rather glamorous, so it's always a bit fun to wear them for the procession.

When are you taking off for Disney World, Joan? Don't envy you, though, because it sounds like you will be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. Stay air-conditioned!

Good morning and Happy Monday...NOT

..and it's back to

Just finished CC3, only did challenges 1 & 3, and all the rest.

this is what my iPod did while I was in one of the challenges....

Garance, I hate, hate, hate, writing anything. Cudos to you for being able to do it! I know..it's your job, LOL.

Joan, did the Dr put you on a special diet for the Crohn's? I hope you have a good trip and are able to rest while everyone is riding those rides. Are you staying right at Disney?

Hi to Josie, Valerie & Cathy,

Tke care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's TLC, both with 1lb. gloves (60 min.).

Deb, what would really be funny is if I could write an article that included all of your smilies. Let's see, I'd need one that was a womanizer, one that was a poet, another committing suicide by putting her head in an oven--boggles the mind, doesn't it? A whole new way to be a scholar.

The campus looks deserted now that all of the students have cleared out. Next weekend we will be run over with alums for reunion weekend. After that, a succession of sports camps where the athletics dept. pads their income.

Hi to everyone else!

Hi Ladies,

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. I did not work out at all. I woke up with a back ache on Saturday and decided to rest the whole weekend. It hurts on the same spot where I have had a problem in the past.

My DS is coming back from his deployment in 45 days. I can't wait to see him; he will be leaving the NAVY after 10 years. I can't believe 10 years have gone by! I remember the first day when I dropped him off at the airport on his way to boot camp.

I signed up for Aids Life Cycle 11, so this makes it official. I have a whole year to train with my group and to collect pledges.

Hi to Joan, Valerie, Garance, Cathy and Deb.

Josie

Hi all,

well I am off to NYC this afternoon, back very very late on Wednesday night.

Garance, an article of smiles would be fun to read!

Josie, how great that your DS is coming home, and for good!

Is Valerie on another trip or is she trapped in the bathroom remodel? LOL..

Off to get more caffine in me so I can start the day..

Take care,

Deb, have a good trip. so glad DH is doing better. from what you had written I was thinking he was passing out... fainting .... and that's a totally different issue from the ear problem. the ear "rocks" problem is pretty common but this must be different from that. yeah, having a good ENT person you feel comfortable with would be key since this seems like it might come up again. and why... WHY does it always happen on the weekend?

we had an extremely active several days. saturday we started out to do a ski but could not get up the road far enough. walked for uphill for a while, but it was clear we would not get to the snowline. so did a major garden day instead. sunday we did a 16 mile mt bike. it was gorgeous. a closed forest service road. went about 8 miles uphill, thru forest, alongside a raging river, past the road washout which we needed to wade, until we finally got to solid snow. even rode thru patchy snow bikes. the waterfalls from snowmelt were amazing. had a picnic lunch by the river, then rode 8 miles back downhill..fast... and scared up a big black bear too. about 5 hrs. Monday we did a x c ski, a couple miles uphill warm and sunny. road was all suncupped but still fun and a lot of work. 4 hours up and back down. so enough cardio! gotta get to yoga, more later.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

No workout for me this morning, because another dentist appointment early. Another filling replaced.

Have fun in the Big Apple, Deb! Where are you staying?

Wow, Josie, how wonderful to have your son back safely. Take care of your back.

Valerie, that sounds like a lot of exercise. Good for you!

Hi to Joan and Cathy!

MY neighbor has Crohns and it can be a challenge. from what I've read just about everything can potentially be a trigger for different people. I know my neighbor can't eat anything with nuts/ seeds but he's a typical guy and doesn't like fruit & vegetables anyway so I don't think it's been real bothersome for him. He had a pretty severe case though.

yoga was great this morning, we're learning to do handstands. and I can almost do it. she's such a good teacher, shows you how to do things that seem impossible. who would think that getting into down dog... easy... and then walking your feet up a wall and you're almost there!!!??

Josie, that's wonderful he's almost done. so he doesn't want to be a lifer? 10 yrs is a long time already. my DH was in the Navy I think for 4 yrs, and could not get out fast enough! Before I met him. It gave him significant motivation to follow a different career path so that was a good thing.

Good Greek food sounds like a PLAN to me, Deb. enjoy.

Just finished watching the last episode of Mad Men. What a great series.

doing my duty and bumping us back to page 1.

In addition to yoga yesterday I did High Reps. It's a good workout with the usual challenge... can't change weight fast enough so need to pause a bit. I don't have a lot of open floor space in the room. a barbell, extra plates, mat takes a lot of it. a couple sets of hand weights and paper plates and it's an obstacle course, an accident waiting to happen. Only takes an extra 15 seconds or so but it's safer and I don't think it would lessen the effectiveness of the workout.

today we'd planned to cycle but it's raining so waiting until later to decide.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's Split Sessions for both upper and lower body (60 min.).

It looks like we will have a mini heat wave the next few days, but it will be nice by Friday, which is the beginning of reunions here at Williams. I will definitely be seeing some former students.

Valerie, how much yoga per week? I've never been a big fan, but I know that as I get older I should do more flexibility stuff. I hope Cathe's two yoga dvds will do the trick for me.

Josie, what will your son do after he comes home?

Hi to Deb, Joan, and Cathy!

2 hours a week, usually. yoga is not intuitive to me and I to do things wrong naturally. my hips do not cooperate. when everyone's feet point one way, mine go the other. I'll never get close to lotus. I started yoga when I realized I couldn't sit cross legged. After > 5 yrs I can "a little".... I'm put together in the hips differently, not age related. Lotus... your hips need to rotate outward and it's easy for almost everyone with practice, it seems. mine rotate more inward and it's impossible everything else is fairly flexible. I have no style or grace, not a particle, but I can muscle through and it's fun. there is a lot of strength involved which is not obvious at first.
I had tapes I used to use but never felt I knew what I was doing. I like the class atmosphere which is 99% dependent on the instructor. I go to a small class of 4-6 people. we laugh a lot! very light and fun feeling but shelley has us do some fairly difficult maneuvers. it's the one outside 'social " thing I do.
there are many types of yoga and instructor styles. you need to get a good match or forget it. Cathe is a great teacher but so far I haven't ordered the new series. It helps to be able to see yourself. a mirror in your workout area would help.

Hi Ladies,

I can not concentrate on my work today! I don't want to be here! It is very gloomy outside and I just don't want to do anything and people are irritating me. Help!!!!!!!!!

Valerie and Garance, my son will continue on the reserves, but a great deal of the guys on his ship were asked to leave due to budget cuts, and he was also at the top of his pay scale. He is a welder and has a great deal of other skill and will be able to be placed in a job with an outside contractor that works directly with the NAVY. The NAVY is sending him home early so that he can take a few classes to prepare him for the outside world and to teach him how to use his benefits to get the most out of them. The good thing about staying in the reserves is that he keeps his health benefits for himself and his kids. He is very excited to get be getting out. He has had enough with all the deployments.

I got the results from my physical and my cholesterol has gone up. I need to change my diet. My good cholesterol is still very good, but my doctor is a little concerned. Everything else came back fine.

Josie

hi ya'll, deb, i love your little picture guys. how do you get them on here? it is WAY TOO hot here, and no rain. very bad in these parts. we desperately need rain.
no workout today, g/kids were here. i got body max 2 and did part of it sunday and part on monday. it is a fun workout. but, there is NO WAY i could do the whole workout at once. i would die. but, i do like it. yesterday i did, um, well, now i can't remember.:) getting old is the pits.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did a new one: Kari Anderson's Sweat Express II (57 min.). Really fun, very dancy, and no TIFTing. She is the best cuer ever.

Are you back from the Big Apple, Deb? Did you see any shows?

Cathy, it's hot here today as well, but nothing like what you are experiencing, I'm sure. It should break tonight and only go up to the low 80s for the weekend.

Josie, if your son stays in the reserves does that mean he good be activated again at any time? That's great about the health benefits and the transitional assistance. I have high cholesterol, too, but my good cholesterol is actually higher than the bad. I've been eating oatmeal for breakfast in hopes of bringing all of it down.

Valerie, two hours per week doesn't sound too daunting. Maybe once Cathe comes out with those two low impact ones.......

Hi to Joan in Disney world!

Good morning all,

Back from NYC, wow was it hot and so busy! It was 95 on Wednesday, and wouldn't you know I would get the only cab in NY that did not have AC when I was going back to the airport? He did do a nice route, all the way through Central Park, which I had never seen before. Beautiful.

DH is having another bout of whatever he has, ( vertigo?) right now and is in bed, trying to decide if he is going in to work or not. I don't think he should go, but you know how that goes.

Valerie, yoga seems to be good for you, and the class sounds great. I have only tried a few times with a DVD and did not really like it. Maybe the class atmosphere helps.

Cathy, the emoicons or smilies come from a friend's forum.

Garance, what was "tifting" again? I know we discussed here but like Cathy said, I can't remember things. We did not get to a show, but had the best steak I have ever had. We also got lunch at a street vendor cart, just so we could say we did it.

Joan, hope all is going well at Disney.

NEWS: we have found a breeder very close to here and they have 3 girls that will be 2 weeks old tomorrow!! So our puppy is on it's way!

Agility trial this weekend, what is everyone else up to?
