Good morning,

It was a beautiful day yesterday, sunny, not to hot and blue sky. I did some planting for the yard, just put all the annuals in pots. I always buy too many, so that I am scrounging around for pots to use to make use of them all.

Diane Sue, I have done 2 of the 4 KCM RAW workouts, the lower with the kettlebell, the first one that was an upper body, which is pretty tough. I want to do the Hips & Glutes one next, maybe today. That is too bad that you found that supplement was causing you reflux. I was suspecting some of the things I was taking were doing it too...krill oil, and/or the glucosamine/chondro one. I wonder if it has the same thing that your neck & shoulder one does? I agree that chocolate can be a trigger.

Valerie, carrying boxes and furniture is definitely a workout. Good thing you got a hold of the builder before making the trip! I like cilantro too, in cooked food, not in a salad, but find like you said, people either love it or hate it.

Carolyn, never had a farro salad, it sounds interesting. I have never seen it anywhere.

Lori, what a mix of workouts! I don't know how you select all of those....I get overwhelmed just deciding on one workout for the day. Would be interested in how you use the riced cauliflower...

A workout, then HouseMax for me.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

We got back from Indiana late last night. I'm trying to get caught up on all the posts from last week. We need to go pick up the cats from the vet this morning, then I need to do some cooking and laundry for the week. Hopefully I can get a workout in too.

Lori-thanks for the updated Live list! That is great!

Hi to Deb, Diane Sue, Valerie, Caitlyn & Carolyn!

Judy

Hi,

Judy, welcome back!

Did anyone have problems with KCM's Raw Hips & Glutes workout? I was doing it this morning using my Chromecast and it ended before Kelly finished the workout. It showed 25:40 as the time on YouTube, but it stopped while she was doing the plank-knee-ins...??

Thanks Deb! KCM posted about that on Facebook. Her battery died so the filming stopped before the workout was finished. She said the only thing missing was planks and a short stretch at the end of the workout.

Deb, i had some reflux with glucosamine chondroitin capsules before. None with the Bone broth collagen though.
When i did th a t raw workout i just finished off 4 sets of knee ups. I knew Kellys camera battery had died.

Judy, the fun of not being home for a day or two is always catch up stuff.

I am forgetting who mentioned High Reps lately....Carolyn was it you? anyway, I saw it yesterday in the box. I did the upper body premix and the ab part, 40 min. I skipped leg portions except for the warmup. I am still sore from something I did. anyway. I liked it. it didn't seem as fast as I remembered. one other reason I haven't used it is DH has both barbells loaded up. I have to start by removing all the plates which I don't like to do. the 10 lb plates are hard to get off. the bar alone weighs 15 lbs, so I put two 5 lb plates on and cranked on thru it. really hard to accurately weigh a bar. the Ab part was good and went fast. I had recorded weights I used previously, and that sped up the process too.

Deb, farro is very similar to barley. In soup, I usually used barley because it was easier to find but farro is getting easier to find now. nice chewy texture. I will also check out that salad.
Lori yes, tell us how you use riced cauliflower. I like cauliflower a lot but haven't been enthused about substituting it , for example, pizza crust. did not work for me.

I usually take glucosamine chondroitin once a day in the morning along with load of the fiber caps. never noticed any issues with it. I take it right after breakfast. but I am not bothered by reflux, with anything.

welcome back Judy. weddings and funerals have gotten to be the main time we get to reconnect with family.

Hello Everyone,
Today I did Yoga Relax. The relaxing stretch was just what I needed.

Valerie, High Reps is a great workout, but I was doing the Jari Love workouts which are also high reps. I haven't done Cathe's High Reps in quite a while, but I remember that I like it. I like cauliflower rice too. I sauté it and season with salt and pepper. Sometimes I add lime and chopped cilantro. I am planning to mash cauliflower for dinner tonight.

Deb, I hope you enjoyed the Farmers Market yesterday. We had beautiful weather also, but the rain is back today. Farro is definitely easier to find now. The first time that I wanted to use it I ordered from Amazon. Now I get it at The Fresh Market or Sprouts. A few years ago I bought the cookbook Ancient Grains for Modern Meals and I was trying some of the recipes which is how I learned about farro.

Judy, glad that you made it back safely. There is always much to do to prepare for the week after a trip.

Hi to Diane Sue and Lori.

Good eveninge ladies,

This morning we left early (8am) to head to New Bedford, which is a 2 hour drive. Met my brother and his GF for breakfast then headed to cemetery to plant flowers on our parents grave. We usually do this on Memorial Day but due to the rain we postponed to this weekend. Was a really nice to spend time with my younger brother. Living 2 hours away it can be a challenge to meet up as often as we would like. My husband and son came along too. Very nice day.

Was home by 4 and I really wanted to workout. Wasn't planning too but since we were home a little earlier than we thought my husband and I figured why not. I decided to do a Peak Fitness workout. This system was mentioned over on VF and reminded me that I had it. It is sad that I have no clue what I have! I remember these workouts being really hard and wow! It was. I did one of the cardio strengths and it was about an hour long. I was spent afterwards. It was the perfect workout to do after not eating so clean today. On the way home we bought a linguica pizza from our favorite New Bedford Italian restaurant. It is family owned and has been around since I was a kid. My husband was not tempted but Nicholas and I ate the pizza on the ride home!!! Yup...the entire thing! So bad!!! :)

I love the cauliflower the same way carolyn mentioned... sauté with a little olive oil, dash of salt and some pepper. I sometimes add in different vegetables. At the office, when everyone is ordering food from one of our restaurants I usually get my dish with no pasta (we are an Italian Restaurant company so pasta dishes are always coming in). I then sub in cauliflower. I usally make up a huge batch for the week and bring some to work. I pretty much use it in place of any rice dish too. From time time time when I have no time to get lunch I always have a Smart One in the work fridge for emergencies. I usually do not like eating frozen meals but when there is nothing else then it works fine. I heat up some cauliflower and then top it off with the smart one and mix it all up. It does make a filling lunch. I have it often and never tire from eating it. Depending on what I am mixing it with - it always tastes different.

Valerie...great job on the workout. I can see how thatbwould be a pain setting up the bar bell. Now that my workout room is in dessaray (my son is slow to organize all his stuff) I have most of my stuff in my litte room off the kitchen. It is all neat and everything but pulling things out and putting them back is getting old!

Judy... I bet your kitties will ne happy to see you.

Deb...The night before I usally look up to see what rotation workout I need to do the next morning then I try and pick put what my add ons will be. But at times I switch at the last moment! SB's new boot camp challenge starts tomorrow so I will be doing this. Glad you liked the raw workout.

Hi to Diane Sue, Caitlyn and Carolyn!

Tonight I made a dish with sweet potatoes, lean ground beef, onion, garlic and peppers along with chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt nd pepper. It had an optional cilantro sauce and I just put cilantro on top. It was really good. I need to mix up some salad dressing since I just chopped up and cleaned two large bunches of kale for salads.

Lori, I love cauliflower rice. I make up a batch and put it into quart size freezer bags for meals. It works great for all kinds of toppings. I will say though that I do not care for tomato based sauces on many vegetables other than maybe zucchini noodles. I used to go to a restaurant with my grandchildren called lots of noodles and I would get a dish that was spinach leaves topped with alfredo sauce and shrimp. I loved that so much and would put a lot of things like that on spinach instead of pasta.

Valerie, High Reps is a good workout. I have a 15# bar with screw on collars. It takes forever to load it. When I got Les Mills Pump I got the barbell they had with my package. I use it most of the time because the collars are quick to take off and on to change weight plates. I will use both if I have a workout that requires me to change the weights in the middle of a workout. I also have an 11# easy curl bar so I sometimes will use that as well. A lot of the time I am lazy and just sub dumbbells.

Carolyn, I feel like I could use some extra stretching today. I took a rest day which I usually do on Sunday's those two Raw workouts I did together left me with plenty of sore muscles. I have different recipes for cauliflower rice and cauliflower grits. One I use a lot uses some garlic and ginger in it and I stir fry in some coconut oil.

I did a spin premix from Ride for 40 min and then Core 1 from X train. I get thru it, but don't really like spinning sometimes. just feels like WORK. my new chest strap works a little better than the old ones, but still not well. takes at least 10 min before they start registering so I end up with less than 200 cal for the workout. not true!

the issue for me is the collars come off easily but the plates fit so tight that you have to wiggle them off 1 mm at a time. first one side then the other. we are driving tomorrow so I will check in when I can.
lori what is linguica pizza? I am a vegie pizza lover, loads of vegies with pineapple and hot pepper flakes. that is dinner tomorrow.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM's Raw Hips & Glutes...a great lower body workout, quick and it gets the job done. I have major Doms this morning.

Diane Sue, I have not been taking the glucosamine for a while now...and am worried about joint pain starting up. That dish with the ground beef sounds good...post the recipe! I have those clips for my BB that Cathe and crew use in the recent DVD's. Got them on Amazon and they are great for changing the plates on BB's.

Valerie, High Reps is a good workout, I should look at it again.

Carolyn, I could probably find faro at our local co-op market. They are building a large one right around the corner from us. I can't wait until its complete.

Lori, that sounds like a nice visit with your brother etc. LOL on eating the pizza on the way home....that had to be messy! :). Good idea on using the cauliflower with a frozen meal...making it more filling.

A workout, then my yearly mammogram this morning, and lunch with some retired friends from work....

Take care,

Today I did the Live workout from last Thursday, Athletic Conditioning. It was a great workout. I haven't done a live workout in a while, but I'm not sure why since I do enjoy them. I did preview it first and wrote out a list of the exercises. I need that advanced organizer to feel comfortable.

Diane Sue, I have also noticed that my average heart rate is lower when there are pauses or long stretches in a routine. It happened today became the cardio was first before going on to weights.

Lori, I haven't done the Peak 10 workouts but I have an older Michelle Dozois cardio workout. It was too dancey for me at the time, but I might give it another look. I have read that Peak 10 is hard!

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

Today I did Kelly Coffey's newest raw workout on YouTube, Cardio Crush, 33 minutes, 180 calories, 115/154 heart rate. I liked this one, the time went fast and some parts of it were burners. I will give a run down of this one, as I am writing them down.
I then did STS Mesocycle 2 disc 14 lower body, 52 minutes (had to adjust my to a barbell when I had dumbbells ready) 244 calories, 108/145 heart rate. 244 calories. Total time 85 minutes, 424. I felt my upper body was still sore from Ramped Up upper and Kelly's Upper Raw, so started with lower body this week.
Cardio Crush 33 minutes 6 inch step. Also need a firewalker loop for one segment. Kelly suggests this would be a good workout for a weighted vest. She did not use one though. I wore my 1.5 gloves throughout. She had gloves on but did not mention them.
all segments are timed and done 4 rounds
low impact jacks to two jumping jacks 4 rnds
Plank, down knee ins, up plank jack repeat 4 rnds
step onto step and punching alternating right and left 4 rnds
(firewalker band around thighs) side step , squat to calf raise 4 rnds
crab in a bridge over the step 4 rnds
squat thrust jump on bench 4 rnds
reverse lunge to knee up on step 4 rnds each round is all done on one side before moving to the other
boxing hooks 4 rnds Kelly seems to pick up some speed here
squat shuffle jump on step 4 rnds
stationary side kick 4 rnds each round done on one leg before switching
side bends rnd 1 hands on sides of head. rnd 2 reaching down side to side, rnd 3 and 4 reaching out into arrows
STS weights tri sets done 3 times 10 reps
squats 30's
one leg elevated lunges 25#
deadlifts Wide Stance 30's
repeat two more times
static lunge 20's
plie squats alternating hand 35# (should have went heavier)
one leg slide back lunge disc 20's
repeat 2 more times
stiff legged deadlift barbell 65#
side slide lunge with disc 20#
squat narrow stance 25's
repeat 2 more times

calf raises 20# 20 reps
repeat for 2 more sets

Valerie, I have some spring clips that I purchased for my heavier barbell. They go on easier, but get loose over time and I have to go back and get some more. I can't imagine having to work to get the plates on and off. My husband once bought me some plates that had two big of a hole in the middle and we had to go back to exchange them for a different 25# plate. I never really thought about the different bars requiring different plates. I thought maybe Lori meant linguini pizza since I know some places have had pizzas with macaroni and cheese on them. That does not even sound good to me. I love pineapple on my pizza but rarely get it. The Fit Bit doesn't really catch up till I have been working out for about 15 minutes. I picks up something , but then seems to catch up a bit.

Carolyn, I have started not doing the mixes that include the ab work and doing it separately because it takes my heartrate way down and then my average heart rate is low.

Carolyn,

Good evening ladies,

This morning I started SB's Summer Bootcamp Barre and the workout was an advanced total body barre. I followed up with some of her streaming bounces. 51m / 285 cal. Need to decide what I am going to do with it. Thinking starting BBS again but mixing it up a bit. These two styles worked well together and it was a lot of fun. The Fit Tower Bootcamp clip looks great!

Diane Sue...I sometimes have tomato based sauces but mostly I get a cream sauce. One of our dishes has a light white wine sauce that I tend to get frequently. I have had a mac and cheese pizza and it was better that I thought it would be. The other day it was linguica which is a Portuguese sausage. Growing up in New Bedford there is a large Portuguese community. Linguica is a staple! I previewed the cardio crush workout and it looked great. Very nice workout today.

Deb...good luck with your mamogram.

Valerie...I usually always get a veggie pizza. But when in NB...I indulge! My son loves linguica too, especially on pizza. I prefer to use dumbbells. Quick to change weights.

Carolyn...Athletic Conditioning does look like a great workout. The Peak workouts are really tough. I do not think I could ever do a rotation and doing one of these workouts everyday. I am going to try and add one on everynow and then. I did feel like I really accomplished something when I was finished. I was soaked!

Hi to Judy and Caitlyn!

Good morning,

Today is a rest day for me. A late class last night. Mammogram was good, The radiologist was there so I got the results before I left.

Diane Sue, thanks for that link. I bookmarked that site. Thanks for the run down of the new KCM Raw workout. Is it pretty much low impact? if not, easy to modify? These are the clips ( or ones just like them) that I have. It makes changing plates a snap.

https://www.amazon.com/Lock-Jaw-Inc...fm&pd_rd_wg=WyBbR&refRID=XPRJ181E6RVTCP4R2WYG

Carolyn, I looked at the clip of that workout and it really looked tough!

Lori, I saw the clip of the new Fit Tower workout....it does look good, but hard. :) I don't know if my old Tower will work with it, especially on my uneven basement floor. I remember how much we liked linguica when we took our trip to Cape Cod. that was the only time I have had it....and none since.

A vet appointment this morning for Keegan. They are taking a blood sample to see if the thyroid meds are working on his levels and if the dose is correct.

Take care,

Deb, thanks for the link. I looked them up yesterday and was surprised they had something like that. I think i would need the 1 inch as my bar is a 15 lb bar. Not real bigin diameter. That is nice that you got your results right away. I hope the vet visitbgoes well for you today

Lori, i think i would go for the white whine cream sauce myself. I have never heard of that kind of sausage. I think the only time i really love tomato based sauce with a veggie is when i make Practical Paleo Spaghetti squash bolognese. I could eat the whole pan. Maybe it is because there is bacon and coconut milk in it.

Deb, there is some impact in cardio crush raw , but Kelly gives suggestions if you do not want to do it. Also, I edited that list of moves because I missed the squat thrust jump onto the step 4 rnds. She gives a 50 second rest after that one which was needed. The impact segments can be modified.

Since today is a cardio day, I decided to take a look at the Michelle Dozois workout that I mentioned yesterday. I did Rockin Body Cardio Jam from her Your Body Breakthru series. Workout time was 50 minutes and 333 calories. Average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate was 140. I don't know why I thought I didn't like it. It was a good cardio workout. I think that I mixed up this workout in my memory with Petra Kolber's Bootcamp Boogie that I bought around the same time.

Deb, the Athletic Conditioning Live looked hard to me when I looked at the preview, but decided to try it after looking at the entire workout. I used a 6 inch step instead of 8 for the step portion and it was fine.

Diane Sue, I don't care for tomato based sauce with zucchini noodles, but love it with spaghetti squash. The spaghetti squash bolognese is a favorite.

Lori, I remember thinking when Michelle Dozois came out with the first Peak workouts that they were too high impact for me. Some of the previews look interesting but Cathe has incorporated many of the same moves in her more recent dvds.

Greetings to Valerie, Judy, and Caitlin.
