Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/4

Hi Everyone,

Sunday evening I did 4 DS Lower Body and Core. Yesterday I did an 80 minute indoor bike ride and this morning I did 4 DS Biceps, Triceps, Shoulders and Calves and a segment from KCM Abs & Core. I'd like to do one of the KCM Raw workouts this week.

Deb-I have the lockjaw collars too. They make it so much easier to change weights. I have a pair for my barbell and one for my tricep bar. I hope Keegan's vet appointment goes well. It's great that your mammogram was good, and that you got the results while you were still there.

Diane Sue-Thanks for the breakdown on Cardio Crush. That looks like a good one. I picked up some Cauliflower rice yesterday. I'm not sure if I can get Chris to eat it but I'm sure that I will like it.

Lori-yes, Chino and Shadow were very glad to be home. I am really looking forward to the Fit Tower workouts, after seeing a couple of the clips.

Hi to Carolyn, Valerie & Caitlin,

Judy

Today was cardio and abs. I started with Shock Cardio Step Moves, 44 minutes, 316 calories, heart rate avg. 150/ max 175. I then did X10 Step, 26 minutes, 203 calories, 137/177 heart rate. STS Abs Circuits weights and plates since the last time I skipped the plates(not a favorite) 19 minutes, 60 calories. Abs was estimated because I forgot to start my Fit Bit. I turned it on for a bit and got a brief avg of 98 heart rate so used that with my calories burned app and the fact I usually get around 70 calories, Cathe was over 90 and map my fitness was on and had me at 119 using the abs setting. I finished off with SB relaxation stretch, 15 minutes, 25 calories. Total time was 104 minutes, calories burned 604, steps 6,588. I lowered the weights on X10 a bit because I have upper body tomorrow and didn't want to use too heavy. I dropped from 15 to 10# and 5# for the 8# shoulder work.
Edited to add that this morning I had caffeine in some Excedrin since my headache was not relenting after I got up. I think that increased my heart rate some. I wouldn't make caffeine a habit though.

Carolyn, I do the same thing with workouts and will have them confused with something else and avoid them thinking there is something in there that I do not want to do. I keep telling myself I could just not do the thing that I don't want to do. On X10 when they did push ups I did plank knee ins instead. I just did not

Judy, great job on the workouts. I really like the 4 Day Split lower body workout. That is such a good workout series. I noticed that the stores are starting to carry cauliflower rice. I love my food processor for that. It doesn't take long to set it up with the shredding blade and run a whole head of cauliflower through. Then I toss it in the skillet for a few minutes with some coconut oil and seasoning. I did think it is nice that they make it convenient since there are so many recipes using it now. I buy roasted red peppers and chopped onion to keep in the freezer for when I don't want to take the time for the fresh stuff or am out. Frozen cauliflower works well for some of the cauliflower mash recipes. I have a notebook journal that I am writing the Raw workouts down in so I know what I need when I do them next time.

I just looked at the Total Body Clip for the Fit Tower workouts. It looks good. I would almost think with some improvising someone could do these without the tower. A chair for balancing. Something to replace the pull ups. A step of course. I wouldn't expect Cathe's to say that though. The idea is to make the workouts promised to those who purchased the Fit Tower and to encourage new purchasers. I am glad that I have mine. I have used it for different things. I used it instead of holding onto a chair for the calf raises the other day. It is convenient having it there. It works well for hanging my mat on it when I need to pick it up for portions of a workout. A clothes hanger ;) Anyway, I like it. Looking forward to more use and having it as I move through a shortened STS round.

Good eving ladies,

This morning was SB's Upper Body Core Circuit. A great upper body workout. I then followed up with a BBS Jumprope that I did on the jumpsport. A nice morning workout. Time was 42 mins / 265 cal. This is my only workout today. Was not feeling the after work workout tonight.

Deb...glad your mamo was good. Nilla has a thyroid issues and has been on medication for about 10 years now. Matter-a-fact I just received a reminder that she is due for labwork. What have you been reading? I started re-reading Partricia Cornwell's Scarpetta books because it has been a while. I am on book 7 and enjoying them a second time. Once I finish the book I am on I am taking a break and will read Misty Copeland's new book that I bought last month. I really want a good series.

Diane Sue...very nice workout today! I hate when I forget to start my apple watch! It happens every now and then to me too. I agree with your observation about the Fit Tower as I thought the same thing. I am glad I bought one and will like using it. I have not used it since I added the bar to my jumpsport. Will be nice to use it the way it was meant.

Carolyn...good for you revisiting that workout. I love when I do a workout that I thought I did not like and then find out it was pretty good! I have noticed some of the moves incorporated into Cathe's workouts. I am sure it goes both ways though.

Judy...I have the download of the 4DS workouts. I think there is a kickboxing workout? I remember liking it. GiGi went nuts when we came home from the Cape. Nilla and the kitties were happy too. :)

I really want to see the Wonder Woman movie..anybody else? It looks like a fun movie to me. I haven't really wanted to go to the movies since Beauty and the Beast...and now wonder woman. My husband will not go with me and neither will my son. lol!!

Have a great night all!

Diane Sue-I noticed more stores carrying the Cauliflower rice too. Before I could only get it at Fresh Thyme but now Kroger is also carrying it. The Total Body Fit Tower workout looks like a good one.

Lori-yes, 4DS has a kickboxing workout with lower body weights and a core section. I like that workout too.

Lori, I think that I would like to see the Wonder Woman movie. I think my husband wouldn't mind. He just got done going through the Super Girl series again. Wasn't there a new Wonder Woman TV series for a short time? It seems I remember it and her having a younger sister. I was getting into it and then they didn't show another season. I generally wait for them to come out on VUDU My husband took my grandson to see Gaurdians of the Galaxy 2 on his birthday. I had already pre-ordered it since we liked the first one. It has a lot of stars in it. Anyway, I am sure it won't be long before VUDU has it. A lot of the time they release the purchase ahead of the rentals and sometimes when they are still in the theater.

Judy, I saw some in Walmart here. I guess it has become really popular.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, a rest day.

Diane Sue, these clips make using a BB so much faster and easier. Thanks for the list of moves and info on the KCM Raw cardio workout. I use my old Tower to hang my mat on and workout stuff. I am not sure I am happy about ordering the new workouts....

Carolyn, I will put the Live Athletic Training workout on my list for future total body workouts.

Judy, 4DS is a great series, I need to remember that it is there! Cauliflower rice is very easy to do in a food processer.

Lori, I read so many books, I keep a spreadsheet for those that I have read, and those that I want to read in the future. I will take a look at it and see if there is a series that I liked a lot. What type of books do you like? I like a lot of woman detective or woman police series, PI series, crime type mysteries etc.

Our dog club is holding another agility trial this weekend....tonight kicks it off with loading the truck and our monthly meeting. It will be all "trial stuff" from now until Sunday evening. I have Kylee entered Friday and Sunday. I hope we do better this time. :)

Take care,

Today I did Get Ripped 1000 omitting the ab section. Total time was 51 minutes and 355 calories burned. This is an interval workout alternating brief cardio sections with compound weight exercises. My average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate was 143.

Judy, 4 Day Split is a great series. I like the kickboxing and Core workout but have not done just core. Remember, I am the person who didn't use premixes for a long time!

My barbell clips are Bollinger Sliplock clips. They were recommended by the owner of the fitness store where I purchased the barbell. They are much easier to use than the clips that came with the set.

Lori, I just finished reading The Fix by David Baldacci who is one of my favorite authors. I also read Into the Water by Paula Hawkins. I didn't read her last book The Girl on the Train, so she was new to me. It was a good book but took me a while to get into it.

The Fit Tower workouts look good. I am excited to try them and using my tower more.

Hi to everyone and enjoy your afternoon.

Today I started with Shock Cardio double wave pyramid, 30 minutes, 222 calories, heart rate avg. 133/ max 169. I then did STS disc 15, 57 minutes, 250 calories, heart rate 108/149. I finished off with STS extended stretch, 15 minutes, 37 calories. Total time was 1 hr 42 minutes, 509 calories, 3946 steps. These workouts are leaving me sore.
Back and Biceps weights
w/u, band lat pull downs, band t pulls, and band y's
pull ups overhand 12 reps using the fit tower like Cathe
chin ups medium grip 12 reps
chin ups 12 reps
one arm dumbbell row 35# x 12 reps; 30# x 10 reps; 30# x 8 reps; 30 # by 10 reps
barbell rows 60# X 12 reps; 60# x 10 reps; 60# x 8 reps; 60# by 10 reps
deadlifts barbell 65# 12 reps; 60# 10 reps; 60# 10 reps
Barbell Curl 45# x 12 reps; 43# x 10 reps; 43# x 8 reps ; 43# x 8 reps
seated alternating curl dumbbells 20's x 12 reps; 16.5's x 10 reps; 16.5 x 8 reps
preacher curls on stability ball double arm 15's x 12 reps; 15's x 10 reps; 15's x 11 reps

Deb, those collars for the barbell are pretty much the same as the ones that come with my Les Mills Pump Set. I really like them. I wish I would have found them a long time ago. I could use some on my dumbbell bars as well as the longer 15# barbell. Did you order the FIt Tower workouts? Maybe once you try them you will like them much more than you thought that you would.

Carolyn, good job on the Get Ripped 1000 workout. I always wonder how they get away with saying you can burn up to 1000 calories though. There is not way that I can see it. Even if a person who was new to fitness I don't think that they would.

Diane Sue, I agree about the claims on calorie burn for the Get Ripped workouts. According to my old notes I burned 950 calories the first time that I did Get Ripped to the Core. I was using my Polar F 11 for heart rate at that time. It was never that high in later workouts.

Carolyn, I had a Polar F 11 too. I liked it because it gave me the higher calorie burns. So it was probably that heart rate monitor. There was a news show the other day talking about how people tend to want the heart rate monitor that gives the higher readings. In actuality those are probably not correct. I did notice that my heart rate was lower today than yesterday. I really think it was the caffeine a couple of hours before my workout yesterday.

Good evening ladies,

This morning I was not feeling the scheduled SB Total body barre rotation workout since it was a 46m workout. I almost did not work out at all so I decided to bounce for a few minutes. Next thing you know I did 2 quick bellicon workouts for 35m and 244 cal. Not bad for almost skipping it. Came home and did a shorter total body barre 20m then I did a couple more bellicon bounces. One was a high interval workout for 11 mins and the other was a beginner workout for 25 mins. Wanted to end the day with a gentle bounce and this was perfect. I could bounce all day! This workout was 48m / 300 cal. Total for the day 544 cal / 83 m. Yesterday's steps were only 8,322 but today I am already at 16,744. Sweet!

Deb...I like reading exactly what you mentioned. Any series you can recommend would be great. Thank you. Great idea to keep a spreadsheet. Makes complete sense. Fingers crossed for Kylee!

Carolyn...that sounds like a great workout. I too never understood how they calculate the calorie burn. Funny the difference in your Hr monitors. That is a huge swing! I have read a couple of David Baldacci books. Thanks for reminding me of him. I also did read The Girl on The Train and enjoyed it. I could not get into the movie though. Need to try and rewatch.

Diane Sue...you always have such great workouts. I never liked preacher curls. Not sure why. I usally sub in bicep curls. Totally agree caffeine would make a difference in your HR. I would never want my HR to show higher if it was not accurate.

Loving all the clips for the new workouts. Glad I made this purchase. I actually really like the core work in Legs, Glutes and Core. Who would have thought!

Good morning,

No workout yesterday.

Carolyn, that sounds like a good workout. I thought The Girl on the Train was ok, it seemed like it was dragging a bit for me.

Diane Sue, yes I ordered the Fit Tower workouts. In looking a the clips, it does look like you could get away without the Tower, but some moves, (like the pull up ones from seated on the floor) may need the Tower or a pull up bar.

Lori, great workouts, especially since you didn't want to do a workout! The James Patterson Woman's Murder Club" series is a good one. I like the characters a lot. see link: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/1st-to-die-james-patterson/1100307669?ean=9780446610032.

I have so many others that I can recommend...another good series is the Michael Bennett one by Patterson, the first one in the series is "Step on a Crack"

Picking up meds at the vet this morning, He wants to do another short Prednisone to get Keegan's itchiness in better shape, before he does anything to the thyroid med dose.

Setting up at the arena today....Fun fun!

Take care,

Deb, you could use the doorvanchor with tubing option. Cathe show all of tose options on STS. I thought the moves on the lower body wone looked pretty much like what was on the workouts that came with the tower. Maybe since it is all lower they will be more challenging. I was thinking from viewing that they needed ankle weights.
I wish she had the FitbTower workouts that camevwith the Fit Tower in thevworkout manager for adding to the calendar. I wonder if these new ones will be in it?

Today I did JS Power Pyramid Walk. It was 30 minutes then I did her 20 minute Gentle Yoga Total Body Flow. It was a good easier workout. This afternoon I had my bone density test. Nothing has changed from my last test 2 years ago. I have some mild thinning in the hips but scores are overall normal. That's one reason that I continue with the strength training and try to eat healthy most of the time.

I looked at the latest clip from the Fit Tower workouts and they all look good. I can't wait to try them.

Deb, I like the James Patterson Women's Murder Club books, but I haven't read one in a while. I think I got tired of them.

Hi to everyone and have a great day.

Today I did Strong and Sweaty Cardio Slam timesaver premix no mat, 32 minutes(a bit short as my grandson came in and I cut off the end of the stretch) 203 calories, I went back after his mother left and did Body Design Kelly Coffey weighted kickbox with 3# hand weights and did the cool down as well, 16 minutes, 99 calories. I finished off with Strong and Sweaty bonus abs, 14 minutes, 67 calories. Total time was 62 minutes, 369 calories

Lori, It is funny how that happens when you are not feeling like doing a workout. It looks like you got in quite a bit of bouncing. Sometimes something lighter is just the right thing to do.

Debbie, I like a lot of mysteries and detective series. Ones in particular that have a bit of humor in them. I still have a couple of Janet Evanovich books here that I have not read. I always liked Jennifer Cruise (sp) Also a particular detective cooking book series that I got into. Most of my reading is my morning scripture studies, and health and fitness stuff. Articles on things I am wondering about. I used to start a book and f it was great I would spend the whole day and half the night reading and end feeling sad that the book was over. Although my morning reading still extends to an hour or two when I really get into it. So much there to learn and take in.

Carolyn, I am looking forward to some new ways to use my Fit Tower. I think just having something different adds something to working out so it doesn't feel so repetitive. Great that your bone density scan stayed the same. I am probably getting close to due for one. I watch my scale that shows bone weight. Over the years I have used it it dropped from 9.9 to 9.8 and has stayed there for the last two years.

Good evening ladies,

Today was a rest day. All that bouncing made me tired this morning. :)

Deb...yes James Patterson! I do not think I have ever read anything by him. My good friend knows how I am always reading a book and does not know how that is possible! I have heard the Woman's Murder Club is a good series. That is what I will line up. Thank you!

Diane Sue...I believe the first fit tower workouts could not be on the workout manager or blender due to licensing. The new ones will not have this issue. I have read almost all the Stephanie Plum books. Loved that series. What scale do you have that monitors bone density? I would be interested in this.

Carolyn..I have never had a bone density test. I guess this starts when you are 60? Good for you keeping up with your strength workouts. I bet that has helped tremendously with the results.

Have a great night all. Anyone have plans for the weekend?

Lori, my scale is a Taylor that measures body fat, weight, bone mass, BMI. It is pretty old. I am looking for another one. I have my on a Fit Gurus scale on saw on Amazon. It links with Apple, Google Fit, and Fit Bit Apps. It measures all of those things and syncs with your app. A year ago I knocked a whole bottle of nail polish across the bathroom and it went all over the white ceramic tile, toilet and my scale. It was drying before I got it all cleaned up and tile was priority. I ended up using acetone nail polish remover and it really dulled the read out on the scale that was clear plastic. The rest was glass. It also dulled the toilet seat but that was replaceable. So, I would like a new one. The Taylor one is not a Bluetooth one or anything like that.
Anyway, reading reviews, the Fitness Guru scale had better reviews and the Fit Bit Aria scale seemed to have quite a few complaints and costs almost twice as much. I have been having bone density tests since I was in my late 40's. At the time I had osteopenia and a stress fracture in my mid back. Later they said that one was mending but the one in my hip was still the same. I hadn't heard about that one till recently. They had me on Fosamax at one time. The doctor put me on Evista when going through menopause, and later they had me on Boniva and that switched to Actonel. I took myself off of it after reading that the side affects was osteoporosis and that it worked mainly for the spine. My doctor asked and had no problem with me stopping it. Anyway, I just do not like the way meds work for one thing and mess something else up. That is why I don't take them. I do pay attention to changes on the scale bone mass though. If it started dropping I might research and see if there is anything else I can do on my own. The Stephanie Plum stories always gave me something to sit and giggle over once in awhile. You can't beat that :)

Good morning,

Set up at the area is all done. Now the real fun begins today. :)

Diane Sue, I don't think Cathe has the "permission" from the Fit Tower people to put those workouts on the Workout Manager, since they were produced for the Tower, not really her production. I think I remember something being posted about that.

Carolyn, great results on the bone density test. Yes, there are a lot of those books, and if you read too many at one time, you can tire of them, but if you read them spread out over a long while, they are good.

Lori, I really like when books are in a series, and am OCD about reading them in order. Especially a series like the Woman's Murder Club one, where the next book usually starts up right where the last one ended, so it helps to read them in order. I think you will like the Michael Bennet series too, He has 10 adopted children...and is a cop in NYC. I think I had my first bone density test in my 40's or at 50. I have Osteopenia, which is a precursor to osteoporosis. Like Diane Sue, I was on Fosamax for years, but my OBGYN took me off when the side effects started being talked about. It has stayed the same over all these years and I attribute that to weight training.

Running in the trial today, in 2 events.....Hopefully Miss Kylee will cooperate!

Take care,

Good Morning,
Today I did Jari Love's Get Extremely Ripped. Workout was 1 hour and 16 minutes with 418 calories burned. My average heart rate was 118 and maximum heart rate was 153. This workout was compound exercises that kept the heart rate up in a cardio range. It was a good reminder of what I like about the series. I have finished my 2 weeks of Get Ripped and I plan to start Cathe's June rotation next week.

Lori, several factors are considered when determining the need for bone density testing. Deb and Diane Sue had good examples of that. I had my first one in my early fifties because I have a thyroid condition and take synthetic thyroid hormone. Being post menopausal is another consideration.

Deb, I did burn myself out on the women's murder club books by reading too many in a row. I had to take a break. Whenever I read books from a series I want to know what happens next.

Diane Sue, the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum books are always entertaining and they make me laugh out loud.

Hi to Judy, Valerie, and Caitlin.
