Good morning,

Today I did PHA 2 from the LITE series, 50 minutes, 272 calories.

Valerie, glad you are feeling better and thanks for the info on BCS and BB connections. It's kind of unique how they did a series as a back story to an existing series. The part that is confusing is when they are showing things that would be in the future, either during BB or after, like the first scene in BCS when he is working at the Cinnabon place. Luckily we have no deer here, we do have rabbits, but they are pretty much after vegetables.

Carolyn, hope you had a good semi-rest day.

Judy, sorry about the lousy week, but at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Diane Sue, good job on the combo of workouts! Good that you took a full rest day. Hope things settle down for you. Are you feeling any better?

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Good Afternoon,
Rest day here. I looked at the July rotation and I like the way that it is set up. I will probably start that tomorrow, with a few substitutions.

Deb, great job with PHA2.

Diane Sue, it’s good that you took a full rest day.

Judy, you have made it through the trial by fire with that job. Hopefully things will get better after this next week.

Hello to Valerie and Lori.

Good morning. I am still not 100%, but did not develop into a head cold like I feared, but still some congestion and coughing. we did a road ride this morning , about 23 miles, 2 hrs 20 min. more traffic than we expected but still nice. gets way busier in summer.
yesterday I took another run at the ferns, dug out a huge pile of them. DH helped me at the end, and picked up the debris in the lawn mower cart. I don't know what I was thinking when ferns started to take over, not paying attention. I was not understanding how over run it could get. it is not entirely done but mostly cleaned out. now there is bare dirt, so will need to put in some ground cover plants in early fall. they will dry out if I do it now.
Deb I know somehow he ends up at a cinnabon. I remember those shots at the beginning, but we have not gotten there yet. I never get everything the first time thru a series.

Judy hopefully you can reduce your hours and enjoy a little bit of the summer.
really when you see the things deer, goats, cows can eat, it is nothing short of incredible. thorns don't even slow them down. so many plants here have thorns , blackberries being the worst. people get ( own or rent) goats just to prune them back.

Good morning,

Today I did LITE Cardio Party, 39 minutes, 268 calories. I used the numbers from my FitBit, since the Polar HRM watch was all over the place.....sometimes it showed a HR of 0, then 32, then 111, and back to zero....strange.

I posted a new avatar picture...it's hard to see....I tried to post just the picture here, but it would not attach., it said the uploaded file was too large.

Carolyn, the July rotation looks tough!

Valerie, sorry you are still under the weather. I remember when I was a kid and when anyone got a cold or something in the summer, it was always, "summer colds are the worst"...huh? why are they worse in the summer? I never understood that.

Hi to Diane Sue, Judy & Lori,

Take care,

Deb I think it's because when the weather is nice I feel "deprived", whereas in winter you aren't missing out on a lot, and it doesn't feel confining to sit at home wrapped in a blanket. I had some bothersome throat congestion. I got tired after the ride yesterday but I'm better today. got decent sleep. overall, pretty minor.
avatar is cute. doggies are so photogenic.
there will be another season of Saul before it is over. we are on season 4. story line is not done. there will be season 5 probably fall of 2020. we watched the last episode in #4 last night. another long stretch before next season is released. I thought #4 was going to be the last season. No. by the time it's released we may need to repeat a season to get up to speed. I just looked it up a few minutes ago. there are several simultaneous story lines going. not simple to follow all the characters. I prefer to get a series and watch beginning to end over a few weeks. I'm enjoying it a lot.

I am getting overwhelmed with so much activity and not enough down time. Lots of errands to run. I have three grandchildren tomorrow so looking for fun entertainment. Two will probably spend the night. I did not do Kelly's challenge today since I already did the workout on Saturday and the dvd was strength and stamina. I am avoiding too much upper work till I can get rid of the pain. So, today I did Kelly's Kickboxing dvd both workouts, 51 minutes, met 8.0, 354 calories, heart rate average 141, max 171, 4,334 steps. I was going to do the Strength and Stamina core workout, but it kept stopped after two minutes, I cleaned it and then it didn't even go two minutes. So, I switched and did Home Gym Intervals waistline, 11 minutes total, heart rate 122 average, 151 max, 54 calories, met 5.6, 447 steps. Total time was 62 minutes, 408 calories.
I will try to come back and read posts later.

Deb, love the avatar, your doggies are so cute!!

Today I did part of Maximum Intensity Cardio. I did the hi/lo and only one of the step combos. I kept to low impact movements. My time was 48 minutes with 360 calories burned. Average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 154.

Deb, great job with Cardio Party today. I started to do that one too, but decided to try Maximum Intensity Cardio for a change. It’s actually similar to Cardio Party. What I like about the July rotation is the mix of total body, heavy weights, and metabolic workouts. I know that I am not going to do a full 70 minute cardio workout which is what the full maximum intensity cardio is, but I’m happy to do a portion of it. The rotation serves as a guide for me and I try to personalize it using similar workouts.

Valerie, I hope that you are feeling better today. A cold feels worse to me when the weather is warm.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.

I got all of my errands run and some house cleaning done. I guess the overwhelmed feeling is just so many things I need to be doing and being tired does not help at all. Otherwise I would be enjoying the activity. My sleep has been terrible lately. It sure makes a difference.

Deb, nice job on the workout this morning. I am feeling a bit better this afternoon. Hopefully I get a decent nights sleep tonight. I plan on making getting to bed early happen.

Carolyn, I have not looked at Cathe's rotations in awhile. That does sound like a decent format. Nice work keeping MIC low impact. I had not thought of doing it with that one. Years ago I did the whole thing and would add a workout to it. Makes me tired thinking about it now.

Judy, I hope your job lightens up soon so you can enjoy life.

Valerie, that is too bad you are not feelin well during the summer months. It is nice that you were able to get out on a ride. I remember my daughter mentioning goats or something to keep down some of those thorny plants on their land. Some plants are just hard to get rid of. We decided to hold off longer before we put something in our big planter in front. We just have it cleaned out of the morning glories that I still see popping up here and there outside the planter. We put the plastic down and rock. I think we will do something evergreen so we don't have a completely empty planter all through winter. Morning glories are pretty, but you only see them in the cool of the morning. I had to go out and pull them up outside the planter and cut them back often as they climbed out all over the place. I don't know why they were ever planted in a planter like that. I always saw them on fences and trellis.

Good morning,

Today I did LITE Stacked Sets Lower Body, 40 minutes, 250 calories. Also did somewhere between 10k and 11k steps. like this one a lot. Apparently I had never done it before. I am sure it was because of my hip/knee issues. A good calorie burn in a short time. I used both my FitBit and my Polar HRM and they both came up with the exact numbers, only off by a couple of seconds in time.

Valerie, I think you are correct about why colds are supposedly worse in summer, it has nothing to do with the physical aspect of them. I think I finally am straight on the time sequences of BCS. Now when they flip from current to the past, I actually understand what is happening...LOL....I am the same way, if a season I am watching ends, and the next one is not for months later, I forget what happened...some of them like Bosch for example, is so complicated, I don't even feel like going back and re-watching. For "A Place To Call Home, I re-watched the last episode, and knew where it left off. I loved watching NYPD Blue and The Sopranos because it was over and I knew I could to straight through to the end.

Diane Sue, is it because it is summer and there is more with grandchildren that you feel so overwhelmed? Glad you are feeling a little better. Lack of sleep is so much more than people realize, until it happens to them. I hope you can find out what is causing all that pain. A really, really bad thing to plant is bamboo. We have it in a bed behind the house, which is our neighbors front door/driveway. Someone before we owned the house planted it thinking it was a good ground cover. We have been picking it and trying to get rid of it for 34 years now. It never goes away.

Carolyn, great job on MIS. Yes, I remember that is really a long one. I think that turned me off when I saw it. Good that you were able to modify to low impact.

Hi to Judy and Lori,

Take care,

Deb, totally agree on bamboo. we planted a clump of it when we first bought this house. at first it was kind of pretty, but then it got taller and collapsed under its own weight. it was at least 6 feet tall. we tried digging it out, using round up, and cutting it back constantly. it is finally gone. we used to worry it was so aggressive it might punch right thru the house foundation and come up in the living room. I've seen some stands of fine bamboo that was attractive, but what we planted was a bad choice. spread aggressively but then flopped over.
I'm enjoying Saul. disappointed it's a long wait. each epsiode is so complex, with several totally different parallel story lines, and the characters are so original. some series, you can go back and watch the last episode to get caught up, but this one might need more. you can look up online but easy to get spoilers if you're not careful. you're right, if you can restrain, wait until a series is complete, you could watch once from beginning to end. we ended up doing that with the Sopranos. we'd watched in little chunks, sometimes missing a disk because Blockbuster was missing a videotape or disk, sometimes we could get subtitles, sometimes not. we finally watched it beginning to end with subtitles( REALLY needed on that series) and it was much better. still not a favorite but much better. Saul does go back and forth in time a lot, all seasons do.

Will do some kind of workout today. yesterday was busy but no real exercise. I had a bad sleep night again. noisy. could not stay asleep.

This morning I did the challenge workout, Raw Tabata weight circuits, 35 minutes, heart rate 105 average, 134 max, 730 steps, met 5.0, 155 calories. I then did the challenge dvd Amped Up cardio live workout #1, 31 minutes, 139 average, 166 max, 2,867 steps, met 6.8, 183 calories. I finished off with Barre Amped Stretch relaxation plus some stretching of my own, met 2.5, 44 calories, 124 steps. Total time 85 minutes, 382 calories, 3,821 steps.

Deb, when we moved here I had bamboo coming up all over our back yard. They had apparently planted it along the outside of the back fence and it migrated to the back yard. I have some stuff that my Dad had recommended that kills off trees and stumps. You cannot buy it in Home Depot or Lowes. I had to order it. I pulled out roots from under the ground and cut them putting this stuff on the cut edges. It took awhile, but I got rid of it and it has never come back. I can look at the name of the stuff and let you know what it is called.
Funny thing with the devices and calorie burns, is that since Map My Fitness changed their format for figuring calories to met values, their burns have dropped. Often, particularly with cardio, my fit bit is a bit higher. Still not so with weight work, but Map My Fitness is lower than previously and I think more close to accurate. They both use my heart rate and bluetooth from my fit bit watch.

Today I did Muscle Endurance for 71 minutes and 336 calories burned. Average heart rate was 111 and maximum heart rate was 162.

Deb, nice job with Stacked Sets Lower Body and it’s good that you like it. I can see why you would have avoided it with the hip issues. I used both Fitbit and my Polar for a while, but finally gave up on the Polar. It’s reassuring when they give similar numbers even knowing that they aren’t totally accurate.

Diane Sue, that’s great that you were able to do Kelly’s Challenge workout Raw Tabata Weight Circuits today. Adding the Amped Up Cardio and Barre Amped Stretch gave you a nice long workout. I hate when my schedule feels like it’s too full and I have a lot to do. The funny thing is that my days were always over scheduled when I was working. Now that I’m no longer in that routine, I try for a more relaxing pace.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Lori.

Good morning,

Today I did R/W/HIIT Low Impact HIIT, workout #2, 30 minutes, 166 calories. Yesterday my step count was 10,084.

Valerie, I hope you were able to sleep better last night. Hopefully your neighbors will not start the fireworks early so you can sleep tonight as well. Yep, same bamboo we have. It still comes up, not as bad as it was originally, but just enough to make the bed look unkept and messy. It actually drives right up through the hostas. Loved Sopranos, ( except the ending!). Didn't need subtitles, I felt like I was back in the old neighborhood! LOL. Even the Italian slang phrases were like a blast from the past.

Diane Sue, nice workouts! Would be interested in the name of that stuff that got rid of the bamboo. We always joked about it: if you had a neighbor you really hated, sneak into their yard at some time and plant bamboo.

Carolyn, ME, one of the great classics! Nice job. Isn't it funny how all retired people always say. " I don't know how I got anything done when I was working"...

Hi to Judy & Lori,

Take care,

Today I did Kelly Coffey Strength and Stamina warm up and bonus step, 28 minutes, heart rate average 143, max 178, 2,672 steps, met 7.5, 196 calories followed by the workout challenge which was Raw Upper Sculpt lower tone with 3# dumbbells and 8# ankle weights, 50 minutes, heart rate average 123, max 171, 243 calories, 1,849 steps. Total time was 78 minutes, calories burned 444, 4,521 steps. I have to go out and run some errands for my husband and do some house cleaning catch up since tomorrow will be busy and dh is home. I will check back in awhile.

Deb, that stuff is by Dow AgroSciences and is called Tordon RTU. I will see if I can find a link.

Today I did JS 40 Minute Mega Burn. It was 40 minutes and 281 calories burned. Average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 157.

Deb, RWH Low Impact HiiT is a nice workout. Good job getting it done. You are really getting a good step count lately. I loved the Sopranos, something that surprised my family. The ending was a big disappointment. I haven’t seen the Bosch series, but I have read all of the books. I started reading them many years ago.

Diane Sue, great job with Strength and Stamina and the Raw challenge workout. I had to run errands too. My husband wants different food for tomorrow than I had planned. I started to ignore him , but I gave in and went to the store.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Lori. Enjoy the day everyone.

this was yesterday, thought it posted but it didn't go.

Did my grocery shopping this morning but extremely busy on the roads, finished with Costco later but that was much easier. Like everyone went early too.
Then did stacked upper body and abs at 4pm I keep saying I will cycle in other upper body workouts but keep grabbing that one. We are hiking tomorrow if we can find a place not too busy and have several options line

so we hiked today, wed. we did the hike we planned and it was OK, we only saw 2 people when we were coming out, but several cars in the parking lot. there is a shorter route to a lake that we didn't do, so since it was drizzling, maybe everyone else opted for the lake. 3 hours RT, not very nice. forecast was for partly sunny but it was totally socked in and drizzling, plus all the brush was wet. so you get wet from the water falling from the sky, plus the water on all the brush dumps on you from the sides as you push thru the brush. . hiking in the northwest! got pretty wet. we went most of the way, but didn't go up the last "view" section since no views. no reason when you can only see 20 feet in front of you. so we called it exercise, and turned around.
Deb, thank you, decent sleep last night. the sopranos dialogue was almost unintelligible to me. the accent plus all the strange slang and shortened terms. even with subtitles I didn't always know what they were talking about ….especially food. but with subtitles I could see the word and look it up!
I liked the Bosch series well enough, but I have trouble following police dramas. again, the lingo can be confusing. I never read the books.

we have little hope for the next few days. at least it is cool and cloudy so far and that tends to slow down the crazies. we have some bat shit crazy neighbors who blow up everything but their own house. we turn on the air, shut the windows and take an ambien if needed. it has not been too bad so far but people do not limit their "fun" to one night as is legal. it would be nice to go away to avoid the noise, but we worry about something landing on our roof or dry bushes and starting a fire. there are hundreds of fireworks caused fires every year so if you are home you have a chance of getting it shut down before serious damage. the weather forecast was way off today, so maybe tomorrow wont be sunny as predicted.

Good morning,

Today I did LITE Stacked Sets Upper Body, 41 minutes, 177 calories. It sure felt like I was burning more calories, but I guess not.

Diane Sue, thanks for the info on that bamboo killing stuff. Are you having the family over today?

Carolyn, I like workout #2 of Low Impact HIIT, it is the one where she uses a light dumbbell. I think you would really like the Bosch TV shows, especially if you like the books. So nice that you changed your food plans for your husband. :)

Valerie, that hike does not sound pleasant, with the water and going through brush like you did. I had a hard time with the second season of Bosch, so when the 3rd started, I had no idea what was going on. I would have to watch #2 over, then immediately start the 3rd season. Somehow I don't have the desire to do that. I hope your area is low key with all the fireworks etc. I would not go away either with all the issues you have had in the past.

Hi to Lori and Judy,

Take care,

Deb, it was forecast to be partly sunny. we wanted to hike up onto big snowfields but when its all socked in like it was, it's like walking around in a glass of milk. the snow /clouds/ mist blend together, very easy to get disoriented. so this hike was a back up choice, less snowy. it was pretty brushy so even if you knock water off the leaves ahead of yourself , you still get wet.

there was some noise last night but not too bad and intermittent. it is illegal, but unless it is literally next door, its hard to tell where noise comes from. a waste of time to report a problem if you can't pinpoint location. gets harder in the dark. I absolutely HATE this holiday. at least we are cloudy and damp although supposed to burn off just like it was supposed to yesterday.

I got confused with some of the Bosch series too. most of the time I keep going and eventually most of it makes sense. I have always been an idiot about following story lines when only names are used. I need to see the character to follow.

Upper body work doesn't have as big a calorie burn as lower body. I have been raising weight and adding reps to Stacked sets to make it harder. I'm cautious about some moves and move to 12 or 16 reps using the same weight before I jump up the weight itself. the over head presses I feel doomed to be at 10 lbs forever. I don't seem to improve on that one.

Happy Fourth of July everyone! No workout for me today. We are having a great day so far. My brother invited us over, but I really didn’t want to drive that far today so we stayed home.

I love this holiday. It’s usually a time that I get together with my siblings. Of course that means a lot of food, but that’s true for any gathering here in the south! When we were active duty military the celebration on base was wonderful.

Deb, I know what you mean about the calories burned with Stacked Sets Upper Body. It does seem like it should be higher.

Valerie, I hope that the fireworks aren’t too bad for you. People usually adhere to the time guidelines here, so I don’t mind much. I never go heavy with overhead presses. Usually 10-12 pounds. I read recently that people with thyroid disease are more prone to frozen shoulder or other shoulder problems which I had never heard. My daughter’s PT mentioned it to her and of course I needed to read it for myself.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Lori.
