Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/17

Good morning,

Slept in a bit today, because of the night before. I need some sleep badly.

They posted the clip for To The Max. It looks a little better than Crossfire, but I am concerned about the step part. The pre-mixes are listed in another post, but without times.

Garance, here is what SMN says about Tabata:.....

"There is an old saying about Tabata workouts that says " if you like Tabata workouts, you've never done a Tabata workout". What this statement means is that a true 100% Tabata workout needs to be performed at least at about 95% and as close to to 100% of your maximum heart rate as possible. This can usually only really be done with movements like all out sprints that are just not possible to do in a fitness video. At a true Tabata level it is impossible to talk during most of the workout and you're not able to go even one step further when completed. Tabata's are all about pushing it to the absolute max!

John has had similar experiences with his quarterly deposits to the IRS, only he now has to do them by phone or on line, he can't mail a check any longer. He chooses to use the phone option because he is concerned about their site not being safe. ( he is phobic about computer use anyway).

I did watch that episode with the blood hounds, I actually watched 3 full episodes, and will be watching the one from this week, this weekend.

Valerie, I wish they had a method to blast away the stones in dogs, the way they can do with humans. It doesn't exist unfortunately, and the ones Keegan is prone to, cannot be dissolved. Like Garance said, you have a very good mix of cardio going on already, along with yoga and weights.

Hi to Joan & Josie,

I am so ready for a couple of days off. What's everyone up to this weekend?

DH still mails checks quarterly to the IRS. I don't believe he's had to talk to anyone or fax anything. he doesn't like doing it but it seems to work OK. I know he would not sit on the phone for 3 hours for anyone..... He'd hand it to me and say, 'get me when someone gets on the line". and I'd stand there wondering who he'd called and why. but this is likely a different location and things can vary widely from office to office.

Still staying on my diet. nothing too formal. eat less. exercise more, drink less wine. one week today. I have doctor appt next week so will weigh before then.

did STS #4 yesterday. I'll say again, wow, a lot of pushups. I can't do all on my toes but do most. the other moves I'm able to use my previous weight. I never did the one rep max business, just recorded the weight with an up or down arrow ...for the next time. works for me. I'm thinking about doing some of the leg disks ... depending on how much other stuff I'm doing, I skip some of the leg ones because my legs need rest days.

Yes, thank you... the mix is working pretty well right now. I try to keep variety and balance in the mix and let one body part rest a few days, usually my legs. on our trips we try to mix activities too. more fun and we can see different things. we would never hike in cow country, but biking thru is OK& fun in a different way

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did AT (56 min.).

Just as I suspected, tabata is just another word for torture. Thanks for the definition, Deb. I may well regret ordering these.

We have a party to go to tomorrow night, but other than that, it's Housemax and some writing. Facilities still hasn't moved all my boxes or I would be doing some unpacking. I hate this state of limbo.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Ladies,

Happy Friday! I will be taking my grandkids to see the movie Brave tonight. They are very excited about it ;) I will be taking them home tomorrow, so my day will be spent in my car.

I plan on doing a 30 mile easy ride along the coast on Sunday; we are supposed to stop at a restaurant called Good Stuff in Hermosa Beach to celebrate finishing the ALC ride.

Valerie, welcome home! I don’t remember how to get a PM message on the site, which is why I did not send you any pictures. If you let me know how to do this I will send them to you.

Joan, my DH is always getting into arguments when he has to call anyone regarding billing on our accounts. People are not trained properly to do a good job.

Deb, I’m glad the lab results were not bad for Keegan ;)

Hi to Garance!

Josie

Josie.. I think you left click on your screen name itself. a drop down menu will say 'send a private message to josie". click on it and you will go to your private messages. at least that's how I set mine up. Love to see the pics.

Got them, Josie ! Thank you what a great looking trip. I would love to ride that some day. Is the traffic bad or are the motorists pretty accommodating to bicycles? of course, I'd need a way to get back to the start. did you go north to south, or south to north?

Looked at the clip from "To the Max". it looks pretty intense too. I know that's what's intended , but that's a bit much for me. I can go long but I can't go that fast.

Good morning,

Went to breakfast and stopped at the grocery store. Agility class this moring. We also went last night and did both dogs, whew it was hot! It looks like Kylee will take to agility, like I thought she would. It was fun.

Valerie, how much weight are you trying to lose? did you see the thread on the "no wheat" eating style? I would love to go back to that, which is basically what I was doing before, ( made an exception with one slice of spelt bread a day).

Garance, could not get to sleep at all last night so at 1:30 am I was watching this past Wed's episode of Dogs in the City on the computer. I really like Dustin, he has a good sense of humor and he does know dogs and how to train them. I think we will be ok with the pre-mixes on the new DVD's.

I think we are going to the movies this afternoon!! Can you believe it? A friend's Wire ( from our Wire Fox terrier group, Keegan's breeder and others) is in the movie. Moonrise Kingdom, a Wes Anderson film. We got to hear all the details of the filiming while it was going on last year, very interesting. Keegan is actually distantly related to this dog. This is what it takes to get John to go to a movie!

Take care,

Deb, I want to lose 10-15 lbs. I'm open ended on a very hard goal weight because of all the different scale readings over the years (my old old scale, old scale, new scale, doctors scale) I'm not sure where I'll be happy. I've been a good 10 lbs over ideal for a long time now, although I've been stable. I'm not in a constant state of gaining. I am at least 7 lbs down from a lifetime high. I have more muscle than I used to, so I'm not sure if that will factor in. I don't want to struggle to reach something that's not sustainable.

We eat mostly vegetarian. whole grain including wheat is a big part. breakfast is 1/2 cup of wheat bran mixed with 1/2 cup oatmeal with berries on top. Not TMI here, but my GI tract needs huge amounts of fiber. even one low fiber meal causes problems so I don't experiment much.

Moonrise Kingdom is on my netflix queue..... Love to see that one! my aunt and my cousin always had wire haired terriers. such cute little guys. Hope John likes it... I don't like movies in theaters much though, so I can relate.

Did Cardiosupersets yesterday. haven't done in a while and had trouble getting thru a couple of the moves. the planks where you slide legs back and forth, are tough and I need to do them regularly.
