Good morning,

Just getting us started. Had a nice time at the party yesterday. I should be out weeding, or doing some type of workout, but I told J I would spring for a Father's Day breakfast, so off we go.

Will stop by later to see what everyone is up to today.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did High Reps (65 min.).

Josie, thanks for all the pics! Wow, some of the views are so gorgeous, and you look terrific in your biking gear. Grandsons are cuties, too.

DH is taking advantage of this extended week of great weather to cut hay. He's a beast when it comes to getting in hay--works more like 12 hours a day, so I hardly even see him. As he points out about Mother's Day, I am not his mother, and I point out to him on Father's Day, he's not my father. We did have his father over last year for dinner, but it was not great hay weather at the time.

Back to packing--ugh! I wish I could teletransport everything over to my new office.

Good morning,

I did the first Couch to5K workout this morning. I think I may try this again, with a little variation. I will do each workout twice, instead of pushing through at the pace that they have. It gets a little difficult in about week 4 or 5. Maybe I will be able to do it this way.

Taking another sample in to the vet this morning, keep your fingers crossed that there are no crystals and inflammation is gone. My poor Keegan.

Josie, thanks for the pics! Such a beautiful scenic ride, and the GK's are so cute.

Garance, the last thing I would want when I retire is an office I have to go to. When I retire, it will be THE END of offices.

Hi Joan and the travelling Valerie,

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did After Burn (54 min.).

Josie, you and your daughter are beautiful! Those final pictures of you out of your biking gear are lovely (not that you don't look totally bad in your biking outfit--and I mean "bad" in a good way).

Good luck on your Couch to 5K plan Deb. It's always good to have a goal. For me it's still getting through ALL of the burpees on S & G, and all of the pushups on AB when you do burpees at the same time. Hope Keegan's inflammation is GONE.

Hi to travelling Valerie and Joan (is your back any better?).

Hi Ladies,

My grandkids are still visiting and we had a full house this weekend. We celebrated Father’s Day with my DH and DS and his family so it was busy but fun.

I will not have a formal workout week, but plan on taking my grandkids to the park and the beach and I plan on running and doing some kind of workout while watching them play.

Garance, I don’t like the way I look in my biking clothes, there is too much elastic everywhere and it rides up.

Deb, I have been thinking on doing the couch to 5k program myself. I miss running very much and I feel that I get a better workout than ridding my bike.

I need to sign up for another ride or run soon so that I have a goal to get myself motivated. Otherwise me and my couch will be best friends again ;)

Hi to Valerie and Joan!

Good morning,

This morning I did a KCM total body workout. She has the most unique moves, nothing is a normal weight move. Good for a change once in a while.

Keegan's UA was not as bad as last week, but still not good. No crystals but still a very low ph. We are taking him in tomorrow for an ultra-sound of his bladder and kidneys to see if it is anything structural. I will be really pissed if there is something wrong that goes back to his surgery last August and they let this go for this long. Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer that it is not anything that will require surgery. Poor baby.

Josie, I think you look great in your bike outfits!

Garance, still some inflammation, we upped the meds to every day instead of every other, I don't know why he didn't do that in the first place. I love this vet, he was so good with Kelsey, but I am starting to lose confidence in him. I wish there was a specialist in the kidney/bladder for dogs around here. I may have to look into taking him somewhere.

On that high note, I need to go shower and get ready,

Take care,

Hi Deb and Josie--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41 min.).

Deb, that must be very frustrating. I feel very lucky about Max. He really hasn't had any problems. I agree with you on KCM's weight moves. Some of them feel a little weird to me because she has a tendency to jerk them. There was a long thread over at Videofitness on the dangers of upright rows with a barbell. They have never bothered me, but I have switched to dumbbells after reading that thread.

Josie, I agree with you on running which I did in my 30s and 40s, but it's too much impact for me now. My knees just are too arthritic to take that pounding anymore.

Getting down to the last of the packing and put in my work order for pickup. Then I will have to unpack. Ugh!

Hi,

I did the second workout from C25K this morning. It felt harder than monday, but then again, I did the KCM workout yesterday so my legs are probably tired.

Garance, did you see the clip of Crossfire? looks like we will need to modify quite a bit. I think I would pack everything and end up not unpacking!

I have to drop Keegan off on my way to work, and hopefully I can pick him up early this afternoon. I took a half of a vacation day, so I will be able to just go when they call and say he is ready. Fingers/toes and everything else crossed that can be.

take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

I did Gym Style Back, Shoulders, Biceps (50 min.).

I looked at the Crossfire clip. Not happy--at all. I will have to figure out whether it's worth keeping it if I must modify too much. I.just.don't.understand.why Cathe cannot include a modifier for people who NEED low impact.

Deb, are you getting this heat wave? It's supposed to be up in the 90s today and tomorrow with rising humidity. At least it will cool off for the weekend.

I'm still in my old office surrounded by boxes.

Hope everything is okay with little Keegan. Is Dodger still in competition? I wish I could vote again.

Hi Ladies,

Deb, I hope everything goes well with Keegan. Today I will take the kids to get a haircut and then to dinner and the beach. I plan on leaving early today so that I can spend more time with them.

I also took a look at the clip from Crossfire and would have liked more low impact. I pre-ordered these in February.

Hi to Joan and Valerie!

Josie

Looks like I'm glad I didn't order Crossfire.

I think my back was a pinched nerve and I slept on an ice pack for a couple of days. It really helped and only have some twinges now, but almost afraid to lift.

If you hear any loud screaming it is me. I was on hold for 2.5 hours with the IRS and on the phone with them 3 hours. I think I got 1/2 hour of talking with 3 different people. You start out at the sorta knowledgeable people and then they send you to advanced taxation. I accept that and the first two people were helpful but didn't know the answer. The third person must not have been part of the advanced tax research because she didn't know anything. She said no one there could help me and I should call a tax accountant. I said I was a tax accountant.

Joan

Joan, unbelievable.....or maybe not.

No word on Keegan yet, still waiting for the vet to call to tell me to pick him up. I hate this...

Good news, no stones, nothing structurally wrong, so that is a good thing. Still a mystery why he keeps getting infections, and has to stay on the anti-inflamatory meds. Back to square one, but at least nothing horrific to deal with :)

I'm back from a great short trip. We did a short hike the first day, just 4 miles but it was at 7200 feet and since we live at sea level, it was harder than it sounds. the next day we did a mt bike. we did this ride a year ago and it almost killed me. this time we ripped thru it with less fuss. my skills have gone way up from a year ago, still it was around 13 miles with about 1300 feet gain and loss, and a lot more up/ downhill in between. I was really proud after finishing. took about 5 hours. it goes thru some open range country so lots of cow fences to be opened and closed etc. cow flops to be negotiated. they don't respect trails..... wish there weren't cows but it's still a great ride.
the next day we did a hike, 7 hours 10-11 miles. up into snow. very cool because a bear and a her cub came downhill on the trail and marked the way perfectly in the snow. a hiker could not have done a better job. we never saw them but lots of footprints. this morning we did about an hour and a half mt bike before we needed to get going hpme. about a 3-4 hr drive home, depending on traffic etc. so a fun active trip. that's most of my cardio for the week but DH wants to do a street ride tomorrow morning before he goes to work. so I'll hurry back from yoga so we can get in 25 miles or so.
ETA never mind, I found it... not so sure I want that one. looks like a lot of jumping.

Josie, I was hoping to see pics. I sent you a pm with my email... maybe you didn't get it? should I do it some other way? I don't want to post my email on this thread just because of potential spammers.

Joan, my sympathy. that is a long time. I've done that with computer issues but the IRS? I can't imagine why it is so inefficient. hope your back continues to improve.

Deb, I'm not understanding about keegan. does he have an infection? or is the pH of his urine too high and causing potential stone formation? Hope you get a better outcome. can you ask your vet who he'd recommend for a second opinion? is there by chance a veterinary school in the area where there are some more "experts"? is this a common problem with the breed?

I haven't looked around too much... Lynda, where is the Crossfire clip? I'd like to take a look even though I don't plan on ordering. I do so much endurance stuff and am not interested in anything with too much pounding. Maybe it's a "style" thing, but I've never found running hard on my knees. then, I'm not fast and seem to skim along without any jarring. I've also never gotten into huge mileage and generally stay under 5 miles. I've been running a long time and hope to continue if I'm kind to my joints. It makes so much sense to listen to your body and not to things that hurt.

Good morning,

crappy night so no workout, I woke up at 1:00 and the mind started racing and I couldn't settle down. Got to sleep around 2:30, and John got up with the dogs at 4:20. I dozed and got up at 5:10.

Garance, I was going to set my VCR to tape Dogs in the City, when I remembered that the remote no longer works ( the number buttons don't but everything else does) so I went on line and watched 3 of the older episodes. They were great! I liked it a lot. I will probably just watch it on line unless I can get John to swap out this VCR with another one I have.

Valerie, welcome back! Sounds like your trip was fun and just what you wanted. Keegan's PH is too low, so we give him potasium citrate to raise it, and piroxicam for the inflammation to keep from getting a full blown infection, crystals etc. The oxalate crystals lead to oxalate stones, which is what he had before that had to be surgically removed. I have done lots of searches on the internet looking for specialists, etc. The vet school would be Cornell, which is in Ithica NY, not too far from here. We may look into maybe a consultation with them. There are a couple of other things we may try, I am going to wait to hear from my vet. He had to go to a funeral out of town so I didn't get to speak with him yesterday. I spoke with my friend who is a vet tech there.

Yes, CrossFire is a little disappointing, looks like lots of modification. I think it may have low impact pre-mixes though so it may be ok to keep. They listed them earlier and there were about 13.

Hi Joan & Josie,

Take care,

Hi

..it was To the Max that had the 13 pre-mixes with low impact ones.

There are some lower impact for Cross Fire. I like that there are time-saver ones! I think if you did the one with "NO Tabatas" you could remove most of the impact.

Premix #1: CrossFire Plus Core 64:09
Premix #2: Timesaver Low Impact Tabata 17.56
Premix #3: Timesaver Firewalker Tabata 18.09
Premix #4: Timesaver Plyo Tabata 18:31
Premix #5: Timesaver Plyo Tabata + Firewalker Tabata 23:27
Premix #6: Timesaver Triple Tabata 28:04
Premix #7: Timesaver Fitness Blast + Firewalker Tabata 26:59
Premix #8: Timesaver Circuit Blast 35.59
Premix #9: Timesaver Fitness Blast/Plyo Tabata/Core 33;14
Premix #10: Less Impact 56:16
Premix #11: No Tabatas 53:56
Premix #12: CrossFire Extreme 73.44

something happened with my last post... when I added on a sentence to say I'd found the Crossfire clip, it added the sentence in the wrong place, and duplicated the post somehow. Not sure what happened.

Deb, it's interesting... my cousin's wife has a huge problem with kidney stones and was just hospitalized for it. she was very sick. she was scheduled for lithotripsy ( think that's what it's called) to break up the stone(s). it's non invasive. I don't know how small the stones get but it's pretty rough to pass any kind of stone regardless of how small. I was with my aunt when she passed one. she had been straining her urine for a long time to catch it, and when it passed it was too small for her to see so I fished it out for her. seemed about as big as a grain of salt or sugar. a bad process. I know there are dietary approaches to control stone formation and I assume it's the same process in doggies as people. Hope you get some other ideas.

Re Crossfire.... I have enough workouts.... especially like LIS. with my outdoor stuff I don't need a hundred disks for variety or for cardio. I've done at least 14 hours of cardio this week alone! not as intense as Cathe but you can't do her intensity for 4-7 hours straight. Still disappointing if it's too much impact for a good % of people.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41 min.).

Thanks for posting all those premixes, Deb. #10 and #11 look to be possibles for me, and I like their length. What is a tabata? Some new form of torture?? Sounds like Keegan should see a specialist, who might be able to be a doggy House (but not as cranky). I think the funniest vignette from Dogs in the City was the one last week with those two great bloodhounds--Duke and Daisy. They just seemed so galumphing and eager to please.

Welcome back, Valerie! Sounds like you definitely had your exercise on that trip. My problem is that I'm not that outdoorsy and I prefer short intense workouts over long steady state cardio. I think you have, if anything, perfect variety in your workouts, with the yoga, the cycling, the hiking, the biking, and some Cathe every now and then.

Joan, your experience with IRS matches my husband's. He pays three installments on his self-employment tax, and all of a sudden he gets a letter from the IRS telling him that he hasn't paid the third one--when he knows he has. So he calls at 7:30 A.M., when they SAY they are open for business. Yeah--but they don't answer their phones until 8, and then you must queue up. So he gets someone who tells him he must retrieve the cancelled check from the bank to find some numbers on the back. He does that and makes a second call to a different person who tells him he must fax the check to her (No, it's not good enough for him to tell her the numbers on the back of the check), but he must also be on the phone with her while he does the fax. So the next day, he calls a third time, a third person (every call takes a long time because you are put in a queue), while he is at a fax machine and faxes the damn check. He waits two weeks, hears nothing, so he calls again, and gets a fourth person who finally (!) knows what she's doing. She asks for the numbers on the back and says, "We wrongfully credited your check to another Soc. Security number. Don't know how we made such a mistake because your number is nothing like this one, but I will fix it." WHY SHOULD IT TAKE THIS LONG TO GET SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING??? I think this is why a lot of people hate the government and hate the overpaid, inefficient bureacrats who are more of a nuisance than working on our behalf.

Rant over. Just wanted you to know, Joan, I feel your pain.
