Hi all,

Raining like crazy here, so no outside activity, which I guess is fine with me. Excuse for skipping the weeding. ;) My niece was awesome in the play last night...so darn good at singing and dancing.. she missed her calling for sure, but at least she is able to have fun with it as a hobby.

Lots of stuff to do around here, and I didn';t get a workout in yet, took John out for Father's Day breakfast!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend, or whatever is left of it.

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did STS disk 25 for ch and ba (68 min.). I wish Cathe had done 3 sets of each exercise instead of 4. Then I don't think I would mind the waits between exercises. But I'm going to stick it out on meso 3 with the hope that I will be 5% stronger. On Friday I did Burn Sets bis and tris (39 min), and in the evening took Max for a 45 min. walk down and up hill.

Valerie, that's funny about your husband. Sounds a little too competitive.

We had two great, sunny days in a row, so DH managed to get some hay done. Usually it takes 3 days, but it was so dry and windy yesterday he managed to get it done. Went to a great party afterward at a local farmer's gorgeous country estate--a pig roast with about a hundred people and a country band. Today it looks like your rain is headed our way, Deb.

Lori, my younger son is Nicholas too. He's here today to play golf with this granddad who has a membership at the college's golf course. Not sure if he will stay for dinner because he has a business trip from Logan tomorow, but he does plan on sharing a beer with both his father and granddad.

Judy, my dad died when I was 2 of a massive stroke, but my mom much later at 92. She went very quickly, and was very independent and sharp--amazing memory--to the end. Just a sudden heart attack. She was 40 when she had me--the baby of the family. All of my sisters are dead, largely due to smoking and lung cancer.

Good afternoon all.

No rain here yet but it is coming. Was beautiful here yesterday! Took chester for a 3 mile early morning walk and swim and will be doing disc 28 ch and back this evening.

I agree with you garance about the 4 sets. Seems to take forever. I think 3 would have been perfect. Like you I will stick it out. I like meso 3 but so far I am thinking meso 2 is my favorite. So sad about all your loved ones. I was 4 when my dad passed at age 33. A very young man. He had a brain tumor. My mom passed when I was 33. That was difficult as we were very close. I have 4 brothers and no sisters. My younger brother lives 2 hours from me and we are close. The others out of state...Arizona, Utah and North Carolina. We kind of all went our separate ways once mom died. We talk but do not see each other very often. I used to smoke but quit years ago. I try to live as healthy as I can in hopes of making up for the past.

Valerie...hysterical about your competitive husband! Love it.

DH is working today. :(. His fathers day gift was a bunch of grill accessories for his new weber. He loved them!!!

Chat with you all tomorrow.

Good morning all,

I did a Cardio Coach this morning, had to talk myself into it all the while, until I actually got on the treadmill, then it was ok. I wasted the whole day yesterday, did basically nothing....a couple of loads of laundry. Such a slug. I had about 3 hours of sleep so that probably did me in. Plus it was raining in the morning, which set the mood for me for the day. It did clear up around 6:00 pm, but by then I was too tired to do anything.

Garance, I have a couple of bids in for the Murad stuff, hopefully I will win one of them for you!

Work, then dog class tonight....another late one...

Take care,

Good Morning,

Yesterday I did a 2 mile walk and a short outdoor bike ride. Then I did X-Train Chest, Back & Shoulders with Core 1. It's nice out this morning so I think I will run/walk before work.

We took FIL out for Father's Day yesterday. He will have visiting nurse twice a week and a physical therapist will be coming to see him too. We have follow up doctor and social worker appts for next week.

Lynda and Lori I'm sorry about you losing your fathers when you were so young, that is sad. I was fortunate to have my parents as long as I did. I was their only child, though my father had children from a previous marriage. I did not really get to know them at all though. I smoked when I was younger, but I quit in 1993, then I started running and did my first marathon in 1995. Quitting smoking was the best thing I ever did. I have tried to live a healthy lifestyle with exercise and diet since then.

Hope everyone has a great day! Will check in later,

Judy

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Pure Spice (57 min.). I took Max for a walk last night too.

Deb, yes, let me know if you can get the essential-C. I'm definitely getting down there.

Judy, I read somewhere that 20% of adults are still smoking, and in foreign countries (e.g., France, China, Italy) it's even higher. It's a terrible way to die, I know from watching two of my sisters go this way. Smoking has virtually disappeared at the college where I taught. I haven't seen a student smoking here in ages, nor any faculty members either. It makes me wonder who the smokers are.

Hoping to go to Great Barrington tomorrow for that little shopping trip, so I will probably postpone the lengthy STS legs until Wednesday.

Hi Ladies,

Back at work for 9 more days including today ;) I had a great week with the kids but I was ready for a break. I started insanity again today because I had been doing is sporadically because of the shingles and then the flu and the kids, but now I should be able to get back on track. The good news is that I have not gained any weight :)

I’m so lucky to still have both o my parents. My dad is 77 and my mom is 75, she has health issues, but the issues have been manageable and my dad is in good health and takes care of her. I’m the first of 8 kids I had 7 brothers, but one died 22 years ago, he was the third child. We will have plenty of help once they can’t take car of themselves.

Garance, the after effects of the shingles is still affecting me. The area where I had the break out is still numb, and when I wear jeans or anything that is binding it hurts by the end of the day. This will take a while to go back to normal :( Garance, you should do the leg workout before going shopping, the walk will take care of the lactic acid and you will not be as sore.

Valerie, it sounds like you are really enjoying your new bike.

Lori, I’m glad that you like Insanity. I’m waiting for T25 and can’t wait for the new DVD’s to come out. My DD is on her 4th week of Insanity and she loves it. She has toned up nicely. She is 5’7” and does not need to loose any weight.

Judy, I also used to smoke when I was younger, but it was only to be social and after I had a drink. Never got hooked on it, I would rather save my money to buy shoes ;)

Hi to Deb!

Josie

Good evening ladies!

We had a nice weekend weather wise. It did get cloudy yesterday afternood but the rain managed to stay away untill I was driving home from work today. One minute it was beautiful and sunny then all hell broke loose. Dark, cold, windy and it poured. Terrible ride home. Once I got close to my town the sun was out and the storm had passed. Crazy! Was planning to take chester for a nice walk tonight but after the rain it is way to wet out. :(

This morning was Insanity cardio power & resistance. 40 minutes. Josie, I'll have to say I am really enjoying Insanity more than I thought I ever would. 9 more days! Good for you!!

Deb...3 hours sleep? Good for you still working out.

Garance...good to know less and less students are smoking these days. My son never smoked and never had any desire. Not sure why someone would even start now a days.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

Hi Everyone,

This morning it was so nice out I decided to walk before work. I did a little over 8 miles in 2 hrs and 20 minutes.

Lynda-so glad to hear that there is so little smoking in college. I really don't see that many people smoking anymore either. Have fun in Great Barrington!

Josie-when I smoked I was pretty hooked on it  I quit cold turkey and it was a little rough:eek:

Lori-I'll have to look into the insanity workouts, they sound pretty good.

Hi to Deb & Valerie!

Judy

Good morning,

Good class last night, even with Keegan puking right in the middle of class...ugh...not sure what was up with that.

Judy, it sounds like you and your DH are doing everything you can for your FIL..he is lucky to have such great kids! I lost my Dad 3 years ago, and the 39th anniversary of my Mom's death was last week....it seems like yesterday...great walk by the way!

Garance, I agree...it's strange to see people smoking...I go to Canada a lot, and I think they smoke more there too....like Europe. I will definitely be getting a Murad for you soon...

Josie, I didn't realize you came from such a large family! That is great, but being the only girl had to be a challenge. :)

Lori, no, the 3 hours of sleep was Sat night, and I didn't do any of the planned workout on Sunday....could not get off the couch...did the treadmill yesterday am...I agree on the smoking, why they start is a mystery to me....I do see a 20 something year old girls smoking....I think they do it for weight loss...

Work, with the boss in from out of town, then his boss tomorrow, so I get to entertain the 2 of them....nice...a long 2 days that's for sure.

Later....

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Jazzercise Burlesque (45 min.). I did manage a nice walk with Max last night. After a ton of rain, the sun came out.

Deb, weird, I was told my upload failed, but it looks like handsome mature Max is now my avatar. I don't know why they told me it failed. Thanks for your help! Sometimes Max pukes for no discernible reason, but DH suspects him of eating, ahem!, a lot of the you know what around a farm.

Josie, too late, I already did my shopping trip. Such great stores in Great Barrington--one of a kind items everywhere. Unfortunately the antiques emporium was closed on Tuesdays. I did by a top that will look great with some of my long skirts. Tomorrow is the big dread--STS legs at 67 min. I had no idea you came from such a big family with so many boys. I bet this is where you learned your administrative skills, because in my experience, boys need a lot of help organizing their messy lives. So sorry about the shingles. Maybe once you are retired it will improve.

Lori, you must have had our crazy rain with the showers moving east. When, oh when, will the rain stop.

Judy, most people I know who quit have used a patch or Nicorette gum, so it must have been really rough to go cold turkey.

good afternoon all!

Unbelievable rain again! Rain is so bad Verizon sent out an emergency alert. This is really getting ridiculous at this point.

Garnace..glad you finally made your shopping trip! Funny that you dread the Plyo legs. I did disc 29 plyo this morning and actually was looking forward to it. :) Funny how we all are different.

Josie...yes wow lots of brothers. I have 4 brothers and no sisters so I know what it is like. I pretty much was a tomboy growing up. May have been different for you being the oldest. I was 4th in line and my three oldest brothers were having no mercy on their little sister!

got to run...will check in later. may be swiming home.....

Lori,

I was also a tomboy growing up, it was fun until the last 4 of my brothers were born. I had to help my DM :( That is why I only have 2 kids 10 years apart ;)

Garance, with 8 kids, my mom was very organized. That is who me and my brothers picked the organizational skills from.

Josie

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did a longer core workout, with Ab Circuits Stability Ball and Medicine Ball Abs, the first part of Weights & Plates Abs, then Core 2 from X-Train. I did as much as I could, but had to stop a few times. After that I did about 35 minutes of easy spinning.

Deb- Thank you, FIL is a sweetheart, it's just a challenge to make sure he is ok

Lynda-The first 3 weeks were the worst. Once that was over it wasn't that bad. I had tried the nicotine gum, but went back to smoking after a short time.
Hope you have a good STS workout tomorrow. Over an hour of legs sounds pretty challenging!

Lori-sorry about all the rain :( I hope it clears up soon

Hi to Josie & Valerie!

Judy

Good morning all,

Well got through day 1 of Boss's Visits.....today I have 2 to entertain....Woo Hoo....

Garance, glad that the avatar worked....it is not the most "user friendly" one that's for sure. He looks great by the way! Are you doing Plyo Legs or the one with the Tower? I don't think I ever did Plyo Legs....besides being too long, I probably connected it with too much impact, I used the Tower and weighted vest...worked fine and did the other one...

Lori, It is funny how people like different things, and how we even change...when I was younger ( 30's & 40's) I loved workong lower body, and dreaded any upper body work....now I am just the opposite. I think my lower body was a lot stronger then, and those exercises were easier....they say that you gravitate to what is easier for you, hence those are the areas that are in the best shape....hope your rain stops!

Josie, I had one brother...he is 5 years older than me, can't imagine having 7 of them! YIKES!

Judy, good for you for quitting, and going cold turkey is hard. I am so thankful that I never started....played around with it in late teens, my best friend was a real die hard smoker and I would have one with her once in a while, but never appealed enough for me to keep up with it. My mom died of lung cancer when I was 20...she was a heavy smoker...that changed everyone in my familiy...they all quit after that.

Work, then agility class tonight....take care,

I'm back... great trip. two serious hikes and one fantastic mt bike ride. the hikes were two we'd never done before, one will be a repeat, the other no. one was 6 miles RT, the other 10-11 RT. destination was a lake and this was just so-so. trail getting there was nice but the lake over used by horses and trashy. funny how horse people, who have the horses to carry everything in and out, including the people themselves, always leave things so trashy and messy. all hikers aren't perfect either.

the ride was perfect for us, single track in open woods along a creek. fast and fun, not too hard, not too easy, just perfect! I am so much better at this than 2 years ago. we tried this trail then and it was too hard for me, I only went a couple hundred yards and turned back. I think we'll upgrade our mt bikes maybe later this year. nothing crazy, but getting to be a much better rider.... I was awful at first.

wow lots of good topics going here. I smoked in college. thought it was 'cool", also for weight control. quit cold turkey in my mid twenties. tough couple days but so glad I did. started running, hiking, biking and never looked back. I never had a problem with physical addiction.... I didn't have that much trouble quitting.

my mother is still okay, 93. lost my father long time ago. he was a smoker, had a heart attack. he was at least 11 years older than my mother. survived the attack but deteriorated in a few years into heart failure. I have a sister and brother, both younger, both with multiple health issues, diabetes for one. I'm the eldest. I credit exercise and weight control for not having it too. small family. total of both sides, have only 4 cousins. no divorces or remarriages. DH's family is full of divorces different but also not very big.
my best friends' mother had a fatal stroke when we were in high school. she was a smoker, but for some reason it didn't connect for any of us. we all smoked anyway. yes, I always wonder where the 20% are....driving around, I see a lot of people smoking in their cars.
we were not a close family. I never got along with my sister ( 3 yrs younger) and still don't. my brother is about 9 yrs younger and we have been connecting since he is taking care of our mother. never knew him when I was little.
My parents were always on my case because( I assume) I was the oldest. got hammered for absolutely everything. they ignored what my sister and brother were doing, pretty much left them alone. brother could always do what he wanted. the end result was none of us siblings ever really bonded.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did STS disk 37 for Legs (63 min.). I don't know why Cathe has this one down for 67 min. I am wondering if this is really effective for me. I can't get enough weight over my head without hurting my shoulder. I'm wearing my 10 lb. vest and doing the squats and lunges with 40 lbs. but getting the darn barbell in place is what hurts my shoulder. I really don't feel much of anything either, but I guess I should wait until tomorrow.

Deb, I'm not doing the plyo workouts because the impact looks too much for my knees. Did you use the tower by getting under it in some way so you don't have to swing the barbell over your head?

Lori, it looks like we finally have some decent weather for a few days. I'm definitely not doing plyo legs. I couldn't even begin to do all of those jumps.

Valerie, that was always my oldest sister's complaint about my mom--that she was so hard on her and easy on the sister who was four years younger. The same with the sister who was four years older than I (it was like two sets of two daughters because there was a big gap between set 1 and set 2). Everyone said that I raised myself because my mom had just given up by the time I was in my teens--hah!

Judy, you are lucky that quitting was so easy. I had friends who tried and tried and tried before they finally conquered the addiction. My sisters just plain could not.

Hi Ladies!

YES!!!! Finally woke up to a nice sunny day! Terrible nights sleep though. We have a sump pump in the basement that has been working overtime with all this rain. For those not famialr with one it is a preventative pump installed in the floor of your basement to keep your basement free from water. Well I can hear it running from our bedroom which is a good thing becuase I know it is working. It only runs when it is full of water then the pump shuts off. Well I kept waking up when it was quite thinking OH NO it stopped working. Then I would listen until it went on..fall asleep, wake up again when it was quite, listen....that pretty much was my night.

So no early morning workout for me. I did do Insanity Pure Cardo at lunch. Josie...I was drenched. Thank goodness we have a shower here.

Valerie...Welcome back! Your trip sounded great. I wish my husband would like outdoor activities like that. He is so not into it at all. I really do not blame him. He works tons of hours so our vacations are usually more like drinking margaritas and lounging on a white sandy beach. Which really is not bad either. :)

Garance...if my shoulder was hurting like that I would not do that workout. Perhaps Cardio leg blast would be better or Xtrain legs. 67 minutes of Legs! That is a LONG workout. No wonder the shoulder pain.

Deb...So exhausting entertaining bosses/executives. I find them at times to be very high maintenance.

Hi Everyone,

No workout this morning. I had to take one of our cats, Tiger, to the vet. He was having some issues last night and couldn't keep anything down. He seems a little better now.

Deb-I'm so sorry about your mom, that is so young for you to have lost her :(

Valerie-sounds like you had an awesome vacation! That is the kind of trip that DH and I need, hiking and biking!
It's good that you were able to quit smoking so easily. I'd say that nicotine and caffeine are probably my only addictions, I'll never touch nicotine again, but I will always have some caffeine in my life

Lynda-After the first few weeks of quitting, I knew I never wanted to go through that again, that was one of my motivations to stay with it. The other was that I started running about 6 months after I quit. Running became a lifesaver to me in so many ways. It kept me from smoking, it was great for stress relief and I made a lot of wonderful friends. Ironically, I actually lost a little weight when I quit smoking, because I was so afraid of gaining that I really watched my diet.

Hi to Josie & Lori!
Judy

Good morning,

Good class last night, Keegan was actually enjoying himself which made it more fun for me.

The bosses all left yesterday, whew....glad that's over.

Valerie, nice trip! I didn't realize your Mom was 93. That's amazing that she is still okay and living at home. I know your brother plays a big role in that.

Garance, I believe I used the Tower like a squat rack, so that I didn't have to lift the bar over my head. I also have a squat rack on my weight bench...also used the vest ( which I thought was 20 pounds?). You have to be careful with the Tower....they say it is not supposed to be used as a squat rack but if you can use it for heavy bench presses, why not?

Lori, nothing like worrying about the house all night...I have been there too...we are very lucky that we live in a higher part of the city...houses here do not have sump pumps, not needed. We have had a trickle of water in our basement, that only happens with torrential downpours. LOL...yes the bosses can be high maintenance...but these 2 are not. They are pretty easy going and fun at times even.

Judy, hope your kitty is ok....what did he vet think it was? great that you were able to stay away from nicotine, and it sounds like running helped a lot.

Hi to Josie,

Work, then plan to have a relaxing night...will check back later...
