Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/11

Today I did Ripped With Hiit Low Impact Hiit 1 and 2 combined, 51 minutes, 325 calories, heartrate 137 average 173 max. I then did Ripped with Hiit bonus abs 1 and 2, 23 minutes, 74 calories. Total time 74 minutes, 400 calories. 5,159 steps.

Lori, the video of Gigi is so cute. I ad an English bulldog once that would dive into the sprinkler like that and eventually grab it and run with it. We, finally had to stop her. She got in the neighbors yard once and tried to take their sprinkler LOL. Gertie does not like being filmed or having her picture taken. It is the weirdest thing. I pick up the phone or tablet to get a shot and pretend I am looking at it and she will take off or lie down with her head on her paws and look at me. I have to be as sneaky as I can. It's like she has radar and knows I am going to try to take a picture. I never had this happen before. Gigi makes a beautiful ornament for your yard :) I recently watch a news show talking about heart rate monitors and how people go for the ones that give the higher readings and how they are the least accurate. My first Polar F11gave me the highest reading of all of my heart rate monitors. Fit Bit gives me the lowest. I have seen people post their instagram shots of their phones showing they have burned 800 calories in a 30 minute workout. I just shake my head because I think there is no way> I wouldn't rely on that for help if trying to lose weight.

Deb, I have a hard time saying which S&S workout I love the most. I like a lot about each one. I keep thinking I would like to do the Bootcamp again since it has been awhile. Jari love's workouts are intense. With the compound upper and lower work and the cardio, lots of reps that leave the muscles fatigued and on fire, you get a lot out of them. One thing nice is she always has different ones working at different levels and sometimes some will use a step while others do not. She is usually doing the lighter weights of the group herself. I have an eye appointment to morrow and they are dilating my eyes so they can check the floaters I have in my right eye. My daughter wanted some help with the children since her husband is going to be gone till the weekend on a wounded warrior retreat and her son is off on a youth mission trip. She is still doing some daycare and working on getting her stuff back together to maybe go back to teaching. Anyway, I am not sure if I will go over there in the morning before my appointment yet. I told her I would come and get her two children tomorrow. I was supposed to have my grandson 6, but yesterday found out he has some camp thing he is doing. Friday I may watch the children too or go to her house and just help. I have to prepare for a birthday and fathers day family gathering on Sunday, so it is just getting caught up here and errands run in between.

Valerie, I stand a mirror in front of me when I do preacher curls and try to keep my elbows and arms at the angle they should be. I can't go as heavy that way without losing good form. Of course you never want to drop to a full locked out arm either. I knew someone that had knee replacement surgery . She was able to rid a stationary bike and walk better but the doctor said not to think she can go out and take up a sport or something. Better to take care of our appendages. And you are right, some of these things are not age related. I have dealt with some of my out of whack areas for years hoping to get better, but there is no way I am remaking how I am put together.

Carolyn, I think those long high rep segments actually help with the strength when you go back to the heavier work. I always find them harder to do than the slower heavier work which is why I need to cross train between the two forms of workouts. Each type has a place in the whole picture.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was SB Arms (a favorite of mine) and then a portion of a Bellicon challenge. Total time was 39 mins and 279 cal. This was my only workout. Just to hot for the evening workout.

Diane Sue...I have been thinking about adding in some RWH. I also have been looking at Strong and Sweaty. Two series I never really used to its fullest. Going to look at some of the premixes. Hahaha a sprinkler theif!!! Very funny. Also cute that Gertie does not like her picture taken. Like Carolyn mentioned if our fitness trackers gauge our progress then so be it. No way burnig 800 cal in 30 mins!!! Have you heard anything about Amy Bento YouTube rebounding workouts? I have not seen anything yet.

Deb...oh no! 2 hours of sleep! I have not seen a jari love workout either.

Valerie...I have never been a fan of preacher curls. They are awkward for me. Agree with protecting the original equipmemt. You say you are a better rider now than when you when you were younger...do you think due to your stength training? Or just more experience?

Carolyn...you just convinced me to look at then S&S workouts!

Glad you all liked GiGi's pictures. She is a cutie and a lot of fun. :)

Deb, I have had a hard time sleeping the last few nights, but for me my allergies started going crazy. I have been drinking a valerian tea to help with sleep the last few nights. I checked to see if the ingredients can set off allergies and it only mentioned rashes. Speaking of rashes, I started getting a big read puffy patch right above my chin and to the side of my mouth today. Yesterday I thought it was acne from trying an Elizabeth Arden skin oil sample on my hands, thinking I touched my face sleeping. Now I am wondering if it is something else. I did start wearing a 100% Pure BB cream. Maybe I should have stuck with the Tarte with the SPF 30. I have not had any problems with the products I have purchased from 100% Pure yet though. The tea seems to help with the deep sleep and rem sleep though. Even though I was awake a lot I got over an hour of each.

Lori, I think the dogs are fun. I get a kick out of Gertie and her antics. I hadn't heard anything either on Amy's You tube workouts. I checked this morning on You Tube and didn't see anything yet. Maybe soon. She did say June.

Good morning,

A rest day yesterday.

Valerie, you are making me want to pull out High Reps again. Funny, I have an EZ curl bar, but forget that I have it when doing curls. I think you are right to maybe skip preacher curls and do something else. No sense tempting fate and getting an injury.

Carolyn, I look at the Senior Fit Live workouts that Cathe does, and wish that all nursing homes or assisted living places would have someone like Cathe do this for the residents. I need to put more lighter weights/ high rep workouts in my rotations.

Lori, Gigi is so cute...what a ham! My dogs do not like the sprinkler at all. Funny how breeds are different. Now the Lab is a water dog, but not terriers. I sometimes use the mist option on my hose to cool them off when it is really hot in the summer and I have to chase them around then hold them to just mist them.

Diane Sue, sorry about the rash...it sounds like it could be related to the change in makeup. I agree, some workouts tout that they will be a very high calorie count, but I can't see that happening, unless you did it for 2+ hours or something like that. Do you do Preacher curls on the ball? or something else? I use the ball and it really feels like it cranks my elbows or something. Do you have Celestrial Seasonings Sleeptime Extra with Valerian? I actually have been having that first thing in the morning, and it seems to help my digestion issues.

A workout this morning, maybe the KCM lower body one. I wish she would redo that one on YouTube so it has a cool down and end...

Take care,

Deb, i do the preacher curls on the ball like Cathe does. There was a time when i did it with 20s but have lowered to 15s most of the timr because my form was sloppy. The tea i got is Traditional Medicinals Nighty Night Valerian. It has some other things in it besides just valerian. It suggests 2 to 3 cups later in the day on it. I am doing 2. I keep wondering when Kelly is going to do another Raw workout. I doubt she will redo that lower body one. Maybe she will do another similar eventually.

Gigi is adorable .....she acts like she is posing for pics . Just too cute with the sprinkler.

Diane sue that looks like a decent workout. They sure bounce gracefully. Like they're on springs. Do you think it could be a contact dermatitis?
A mirror won't help since I can see the problem and it is not correctable. my arms don't function right when my elbows are locked in place against a surface. I have tried. will probably sub in another version of a curl . I have to keep my arms wider than many do for push-ups too.

Went my biking for two hours yesterday shorter than our usual but it was seriously muddy . lots of horses churn up the surface making a quagmire in some parts.
Doing a hike today
Deb I am enjoying high reps. I get more efficient if I repeat the same workout and I think I get more of a burn with high rep /lower weight work. This will be my go-to for a while

I have house pics on my iPhone but when I try to upload it says they are too big. I am so stupid with pics

This morning I did Strong and Sweaty Boot camp, 45 minutes, 277 calories, 119 heart rate average max 161. I then did Ice Boot Camp Circuit timesaver no abs mix 4, 37 minutes, 230 calories, average heart rate 122/ max 157. Total time was 82 minutes, calories burned 507. Steps 3,973.
I feel that SS Boot camp is more intense than Ice Boot Camp because of the type of cardio and the compound segments. I wonder at the accuracy of the heart rates. Ice Boot Camp is not near as hard.

Valerie, mountain biking in mud does not sound enjoyable. It could be a contact dermatitis. I can hardly use any lotions on my hands because I tend to touch my face and it breaks out. Even some powders and eye shadows will suddenly leave me with patches.. I have been dealing with bumps and itching on my scalp for almost 3 months now. It has gotten a bit better after stopping all flat iron heat sprays. I t started after I bought a new one from Amika. Now it is a battle. I used some shampoo samples from 100% pure that were neem and burdock and that is when it calmed down. The only thing is that that stuff is 25 dollars each for shampoo and conditioner. I have not purchased . I just happened to get some free sample kits from Beauty Brands and tried it. I am hoping something else works or the lack of using much of anything. I hate having such sensitive skin.

Hi Everyone,

Monday I did Cathe Live-Upper Body w/Core Express and Crush It Low Impact. Yesterday I did a Spinerval, and today I did Cathe Live-Total Body Sculpt (with core).

Deb-lately I've been subbing another bicep move for preacher curls. I can do them using the preacher curl bench at the gym but doing them on the ball is really uncomfortable to me for some reason and I feel like I could get injured if I pushed it.

Diane Sue-I ended up ordering the Jari Love Extremely Ripped and Chiseled 1000 HardCore DVD. It looks like one I will like. I would have done it this week, but I want to stay with Cathe Live workouts for now.

Lori-I am really enjoying the Cathe Live workouts this week. I think I will do another week of them. Thanks again for the Live list! It is so helpful.

Valerie-I really need to revisit High Reps. I don't know why I haven't done that workout regularly. I did Muscle Endurance so many times that I have the DVD memorized.

Carolyn- I can see why you like the Jari Love workouts after seeing some previews. I think I will like them too.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Judy

Today I did Cardio Slam using some of the low impact modifications. Workout time was 50 minutes and 382 calories burned. Average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 151. Sometimes it is easier for me to do the regular move instead of the modifications.

Diane Sue, thanks for the Jari Love clip. I had not seen Hardcore. After I stopped looking at Collage Video all the time I lost track of new workouts.

Deb, I wonder what silver sneakers classes are like in other gyms. I'm sure they are not as good as Cathe's, but hopefully they are interesting. One of my friends tried a Zumba Gold class for 55+. She thought it was hard, but she doesn't work out much beyond walking.

Judy, Jari has a variety of exercise levels shown in her workouts which makes them easy to adjust for your level. I think you will like them.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Judy, if someday I would like to do a month or two of Cathe Live again. I think you will like the addition of the Jari Love workout.

Carolyn, I think that Extremely Ripped 1000 Hardcore and Extremely Ripped and Chiseled are the last two I purchased. I was looking at her ripped 6 minutes and express workouts. They are an hour long and I think they are just divided up into segments. Most of her workouts have premixes on them. I was thinking they might be worth looking in to.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM's Raw Hips & Glutes workout.

Diane Sue, thanks for the name of that tea. I will try to find it. Did you get it in a store or on line? I think KCM did a Raw cardio workout recently. I saw some posts on it on her forum I think. Someone questioned the impact and she replied that there wasn't a lot of high impact, but the clip I saw looked like it was high impact.

Valerie, same with me on the curls....I have to keep adjusting my arm placement, it feels like my elbows are getting torqued or something. Not comfortable. I can do them with 5 or 7 pound DB's but much heavier and my elbows really hurt.

Judy, Live Upper Body Express is one of my favorites too.

Carolyn, I miss the "old" Collage Video...I know they closed down the site, then re-opened it but it doesn't seem the same to me.

Take care,

We did our hike yesterday 4 hrs about 6 miles. Weather nicer than expected but my hip bursitis resurfaced right away slowing things down. It went away fairly quickly after we finished. Less uncomfortable than before. hopefully it will gradually taper off if I hike regularly and don't aggravate it too much.

Diane sue I was thinking about handling things like hot peppers, hot sauce, chopped onions ..that type of thing... and then touching your face. I have not scrubbed well enough and then removed contact lenses. Wow ....what a burn. when I chop things like that I use a nail brush after to make sure I get every bit of the peppers from under my nails. my skin is not that sensitive but I know many wear rubber gloves to chop peppers. it's strange, because wearing contact lenses actually protects against onion fumes. it is a shock to chop an onion without my lenses in... I can see what most people go thru. contacts ( once they are in) provide close to 100% protection from onion fumes.

I'd say preacher curls are not popular with any of us for similar reasons. judy I remember a special set up at the gym for preacher curls. I will just sub something else or run thru them quickly with a non challenging weight and not worry about it. my legs got a little sore from the hike. such a surprise. each activity has it's own requirements. I was surprised I enjoyed High Reps as much as I did. sometimes I bought too many things at once and didn't properly vet each one. I do better when I repeat a workout multiple times before moving on to another but sometimes good workouts get skipped over in the process.

That Jari workout looked pretty good and very professional. I have so many cathe disks I never think about anyone else's workouts

I can finally see to read. It has never taken that long for things to clear up when i had my eyes dialated before. My husband was so sweet, he dropped me off for my appointment, filled my car with gas, and when i cam to the car he had went in to the florist and got me a rose and chocolates:)
We watched two movies and he ordered dinner in. We watched Deja vu with Denzul Washington and The Wall with Matt Damon. I liked Deja vu better than the Wall. Funny Vud had in the description of the Wall history. I thought that was funny sice they were fighting some sort of monsters.

Deb, i got the tea at Sprouts . I remember they used to carry that brand of tea at Target. I have not been there in a couple of years though. There was another Kelly Coffey after that lower body one. It is Cardio Crush. Yes there is some impact, but she does give some suggestions through it if you dont want to do it. I suppose you would have to preview it.

Valerie, i have touched my face and around my eyes after cleaning and cutting jalapenis. It burns for so long. I cannot imagine putting contacts in afterward.

Today I did Supercuts. Workout was 50 minutes and 347 calories. Average heart rate was 122 and maximum heart rate was 147.

Deb, I agree that the new Collage Video is not the same. I haven't ordered from them since the original site closed.

Not much going on today, just a bit of housework. Have a wonderful afternoon.

This morning I did Kelly Coffey Cardio Pump workout 1 cardio boxing, 31 minutes, 191 calories. That is all that I had time for today.

Carolyn, I don't think that I have even looked at the new Collage Video. I kind of quit years ago anyway because I found better prices elsewhere. I used to like to see the staff favorites and reviews though. I always thought that it would be fun to work for a place like that and be able to try the videos and review them.

Good evening ladies,

Yesterday was SB challenge for the day which was Arms then I followed up with some Bellicon Bounces. In the evening I did more bouncing...just a little more gentle. I like gentle bounces in the evening. Total for the day was 72 mins/453 cal. Today was SB Total Body Barre and evening was more bouncing. :). A mixture of SB and Bellicon. Total for the day was 81m/553 cal

I see that the Fit Towers will be shipping soon! Yeah very happy about this. I am going to start a BBS rotation on Monday and continue until the Fit Tower workouts are in. Then will start with this rotation. Also read she will be adding Fit Towers to her Live classes. I am very excited about this. More opportunity to use it.

Once Collage Video changed over I lost all interest. I have bought quite a few dvds from them over the years and loved their catalog. This was where I first discovered Cathe. When their catalog came in I would flip thru and read all about new workouts and would circle the ones that interested me.

Deb...GiGi loves the water! When I get home in the evening I immediately turn the sprinkler on. When I say let's got to the sprinkler she runs so fast out the door and right to it. She is so smart. When it is time to water the plants I have to bring her in because she has her face right at the nozzle not allowing the water to get to the plants. It is very funny.

Valerie...hoping your hip calms down. Good that you were able to finish your ride.

Diane Sue...I had my eye exam with dialation yesterday. My left eye has drastically changed in the past year. He also mentioned cataracts in my left eye. Surprisingly because of my age. This would explain why I am having a hard time seeing at night while driving. Going to get new glasses to see if this helps. If not then we will discuss further. Too soon for surgery. I love my eye doctor and been seeing him every year for about 16 years now. I have type 2 diabetes so need to be diligent with my eye appts. Thanks for sharing the Jari Love link. Nice to see one of her workouts.

Carolyn....ages since I have done Supercuts!! I agree, if someone does not workout out at all even very basic workouts can be so hard on them. I loved watching her senior class. The class is very inspirational!

Judy...great 2 combinations of Cathe Live. I really like both of them and have done them a few times. Glad you are enjoying the live list. :)

Have a great night all!

Lori, I think that is great that Cathe will be getting the Fit Tower for her live classes. I will definitely be interested when this happens. I have a friend that had cataracts that got so bad and she was between jobs and needing to find one with insurance that would cover the surgery. She had to let it go for quite some time. I have no problem with seeing. I had the laser eye surgery quite a long time ago. I just switched eye doctors. My children have all been using this one for quite some time and he seems really good. I just have to go back and let them keep an eye on what he did see. Not much I can do with the floaters. I knew that already when I read up on them. I had no clue there was a littl bit of something else in the left eye. I have had no problems with it and noticed nothing.
I may do another Jari Love workout tomorrow. I should have done STS after all. Things changed a bit over the course of the week. I would already have week two of STS meso 2 done and my plan had been to do 2 weeks of each mesocycle. Now if the FIt tower workouts come I may be doubling some workouts or something while doing Meso 3 or give it up. I guess I will wait and see. I think that I would prefer light bouncing in the evenings. Anything to crazy and I would probably be wound up all night. That is so cute about Gigi and the sprinkler.

I started wearing an eye mask when I go to bed at night and with the valerian nighty night tea and heading to bed about 30 minutes earlier I am getting more and better sleep :) Those afternoon drowsy spells are not so bad. So far I have averaged 7 hr and 24 minutes a night since Sunday. This is so unusual for me. I hope it stays. I even slept 8 hr 26 minutes Tuesday :O
I switched to Google Chrome tonight. I have so many problems with websites with IE and just decided it was time. The last two days I have tried to get on the website for Billy Sims Barbecue and it would not open. I could do it on my tablet because I use Google there. Once I changed it worked fine. I had the same problem with 100% pure ordering and contacted them and they suggested I use Google Chrome and they knew there was a problem with IE. I have always used Internet Explorer on my computers so this is a change. Hopefully it all works out well. I did have a bit of a problem getting to the forums here though. I had to type it on Cathe's search to get it because the top of the screen wouldn't show. I thought that was odd.
