Happy Memorial Day weekend all!

I did Lean Circuit 1 today and lots of gardening, weeding, and planting. It's still not done, ( when is it ever done?)...the weather could not be more beautiful. Sunny, blue skies, low humidity, just perfect.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. :D

I'm here to say this is the worst memorial day weather I can remember. It has rained virtually nonstop since last Wed. 50 degrees and raining non stop, traditional . we had a short break yesterday morning and mowed the very soggy wet grass because it will be 10 inches tall in about 5 more minutes. but we did not plan to go anywhere.

both dinners went well, one for friends sat night, and visiting family sunday night. I really need to do these things more often so it's not such a big deal. I got a big slug of spring cleaning done in preparation, things that need to be done once in a while but not often. cleaning under the frig, washing outside windows and screens, floors, outside lights. It's been too wet to garden much.

DH and I are starting a floor project replacing linoleum in the laundryroom/ bathroom with some duraceramic "tile". it will be a continuation of tile in our hallway and family room. we ordered the product online but much of the work is prep work washing walls, taking off baseboards etc. we will paint first. not much wall space with cabinets etc but a skylight in the bathrom will be a challenge getting a ladder in. want to get washed (TSP) and painted first. we think we can lay the tile over the existing floor. not sure how to work around the washer/dryer. leave in place til as long as possible, then do that section quickly while they sit in the garage.
we have a 5 day vacation coming up next weekend. we had hoped to do a backpack but the snow situation has not changed enough, still too wintery. funny, we thought this would be an "early" year for hiking , and it's a late year. so planning another hike/bike trip east of the mts. still not warm there either but better than the west side.

Hi Deb, Valerie, and any later posters--

Yesterday I did disk 16 (64 min.) for ch, sh, tris, and today I did Petra Kolber's Just Dance (50 min.).

Beautiful weather here as well. DH has been haying all weekend, despite having some awful stomach virus as bad as Montezuma's Revenge. I sure hope I don't get it. As a result, we will not be getting together with his parents today for a cookout. The last thing they need is to come down with this horrible thing. I, too, am keeping my distance and feeding him chicken soup, ginger ale, crackers, dry toast. I did get a lot of planting done this weekend, filling up my two annual beds. My perennials are growing gangbusters.

I guess it's now officially okay to wear white.

Monday

Happy Memorial Day!

Today I did an I-Tread. I think my HRM is going again, very low calorie burn and I walked/jogged faster than ever before.

WEEDS, WEEDS, AND MORE WEEDS!!!

I need something to kill these damn things that will not be dangerous to my dogs. I don;t think it exists. I looked on the net, vinegar, etc mixes which are good for stone areas or cracks in sidewalks, but DH says if we put in the flower bed, it will make the soil too acidic and eventually nothing will grow there. sheesh...what to do?

Valerie, sorry your weather is crappy, We have had the most beautiful weather ever. The forecast said it was supposed to rain today, but there is not a cloud in the sky.

Garance, wow your DH has something nasty. Good that you did not have his parents over. I hope you don;t get it.

Hi to Cathy, Kathy, Joan & Josie, off to a cookout at my brother's house.

Take care,

Deb, I use a red dragon flamer on weeds, in addition to roundup and hand pulling. Hoeing or raking brings to the surface a whole new crop of weed seeds to germinate.
Red dragon is a propane tank with a hose attached to a small flame device that I haul around on a small wheeled cart. it kills weeds ( and good plants!) just like Roundup but without the worry about toxicity. I still use Roundup on some things. the flame kills the fragile little annual weeds easily, but things with roots like dandelions and grass it only stuns. they go away temporarily but grow back. so a multipronged approach basically. I have a huge area to cover and need to do many approaches. It works quite well on concrete and gravel areas where you aren't working around desirable plants. I use it in the vegie garden in areas where the rows are far enough apart that I don't cook the good plants. since it's a open flame you need to be cautious, it will burn things and you don't want to start a brush fire or scorch things.

Lynda, too bad DH is sick... it's only fair to stay home and not spread the misery. I HATE it when obviously sick people act like everyone might as well get what they have.

Good evening,

I finished 2nd week of meso 2 yesterday and did the treadmill today.

We babysat the kids yesterday. I can't believe how much more aware Luke is than Elliot was. She ate and slept. He doesn't sleep near as much.

I need to get back to work. I keep procrastinating because I don't have a real deadline but work should have been done a month ago.

Good Morning,

I just finished Lean Circuit 2. It has been pouring rain all night. I guess we really need it. DH was worried about the lawn because of no rain for so long. At least long for here.

Valerie, that Red Dragon set up sounds scary...I can see me starting something on fire in the yard.

Joan, good job on keeping with the workouts. I thought most of your work was finished, I guess this must be your regular clients, not just tax ones? My nieces both had babies recently, one is just one month old, so cute. They were both at the dinner yesterday, I held him for about an hour, all he did was cuddle and sleep.

Well it's back to normal now, work, etc.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did BBL Bum Bum and Cardio Axe (60 min. total). Boy, was I ever sweaty after these two together. Bum Bum is supposed to be (obviously) for the glutes and legs, but it is also very cardio intense.

I am contemplating getting the Zumba dvds. I seem to have shifted over largely to dance-like cardio, and these sound good. I never thought I would be so meh about step, but it just leaves me indifferent lately.

DH is better today, and I am still hoping to have dodged this bullet. I feel great (knock on wood).

Deb, I have heard that boiling water will kill weeds--but once again, probably only to be used on those patio crack weeds like vinegar. How about a weed-whacker just to keep things cut down? It's rainy here today as well, but we really need it. I am currently going crazy with the layers of pollen on everything. I feel like I am constantly dusting the yellow stuff, and my car is coated with it.

How were your trial rides this weekend, Josie? When does the 'fun' begin this month?

Red dragon flamer, Valerie? Too dry around here for that, I suspect.

Hi to Cathy and Joan!

there are times in summer when I don't use the flame, but it's usually not dry here. It's easy to scorch things until you get a little experience. Not a tool you give to the 14 yr old to use! for little annual weeds in the vegie garden or sidewalks, gravel areas or around rocks, it's great and no toxics to worry about. I use as few chemicals as possible in the vegies. If you live in a dry or windy area it might not be a good option.

Lynda, my neighbor has been on weight watchers and doing Zumba for about a year and has lost 35 lbs. she loves it, but she goes to a class rather than a home DVD. she gets a great workout with it and loves it.

Had a successful 2-dinner weekend. everything worked well and we had a good time but it was a lot of work. I need to do this more often so it's not such a challenge.

I managed to work out... bike, treadmill each day and disk 10 and 11. I might have reported 10 already, I forget if I did it friday or saturday. did #11 monday. that's the last of meso 1. we're having another long weekend starting this saturday and will repeat our last trip of hiking and biking. we though we'd be backpacking but still too wintery. instead of going on to meso 2 I'll repeat the last disks and consider the vacartion time my "week off" and start meso 2 when we get back.

hey all! had a busy weekend w/grandkids and work at the clinic. did not work out sat, sun, mon, but had the kids and was outside.

today was super cardio, one of the old firms. anyone who has done it knows what i mean when i say, glad it is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

getting the kids again today so will not be back for a few days. ya'll have a good week

Good evening all,

I have financial statements, tax returns, amended tax returns and lots of questions to answer. I still don't feel like doing anything but did get a little bit done today.

I meant to get sts done today but opted for treadmill. I'm trying to be flexible as long as each week I get all discs done.

They sent us picture of Luke smiling. Can he be 2 months old already?

Wednesday

Good morning,

No workout today, snoring husband and restless dog got me up at 11:30 and I could not get back to sleep. I went downstairs and ended up on the couch, not a good night's sleep at all. :(

Garance, one of our local fitness places has Zumba classes. My cousin takes them and loves them. You will like them because you like to dance so much. It won't even seem like exercise.

Valerie, I completely understand when you say that you need to have more dinners, I feel like that after Thanksgiving and Easter, which are the 2 times a year we have anyone over for anything. I am terrible about inviting people over. It's like the weekends are so precious time wise, that I cannot seem to fit anything like that in.

Cathy, glad you had a fun weeekend with the grandkids. It sounds like you are feeling better too.

Joan, that is a good attitude to have, just get the 3 STS workouts done, and work in any cardio you can.

Hi to Josie, & Kathy,

Take care.

I get caught in a "no win" situation when it comes to entertaining. My mother used to become a lunatic when we had people for dinner. cleaning, cleaning, fussing, screaming at everyone. we used to dread holidays. her family was very snippy and wouldn't hesitate to point out any small failings. I try to be more relaxed. DH insists he does too. but then he'll start saying "when did you last clean the windows" and will start doing major projects, washing the chandeliers etc. so we ended up doing a major clean for this and I was pretty burned out by the weekend. Yeah, some of it needed doing but something ALWAYS needs doing. It always seems crazy to me when the goal is to make your house look like no one lives there. but I can get sucked into it pretty easily so not blameless either. it makes me reluctant to set myself up for it very often.

just went to yoga yesterday and did some shopping and planning for our 5 day trip. need to prep a lot of food so it's easier when we're gone. most of yesterday was dry, but started raining again last night and is basically supposed to rain on and off the next several days. a pretty dismal spring. some years are definitely rainier than others.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

Thanks Valerie and Deb for enabling me on Zumba! I went ahead and ordered the 5 disk set after looking at some clips. They do look like fun for me.

It's very hard for me to plan on dinner guests because DH is always working so hard on one thing or another. By mid-week, too, the house is in need of cleaning because DH "sheds" stuff--hay, wood chips, grass. I really could vacuum every day. Oh well! He is very appreciative of my cooking, though, and I do like to cook.

I am finishing week 2 of meso 2 tomorrow with disk 18. How are you liking STS, Joan?

SYTYCD is on tonight, Deb, with the auditions for Vegas--in case you are interested.

I am thoroughly enjoying The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. I love really complicated plots, and this one is definitely laden with nefarious characters and heroic counter-conspirators. Plus--I know the villains will get sent up in novel ways because the heroine is so incredibly cunning.

Hi to Josie and Cathy!!

Hi Ladies,

Sorry for not posting. I have been busy trying to clean my desk before I go on vacation.
My rides on the weekend were short and relaxing. I just shipped my bike this morning and I will be packing tonight.

Here is my blog address and you can finally see my picture. I will be posting more pictures as the week goes by on the ride and my DD will be reporting on camp life.

Please feel free to post comments. I will be back tomorrow.

Have a great evening!

Josie

Good evening,

I already did 40 min of cardio and still plan to do sts 19. I forgot I really like meso 2 and 3. I think the dread factor was doing meso 1 first. I solved that- just don't do meso 1.:)

I upped wo so I could get a bigger calorie burn. I want to lose at least 1 lb this week and today was a little more calories eaten than I had planned.

I have a new recipe from BFFM. It is pumpkin oatmeal. I changed it little but it was really good. I eat oatmeal in the evening when dh is later on his gym nights. A good way to add an orange veg.

Thursday

Good morning!

I just finished Lean Circuit 3. So week one of this phase is done, only 2 more weeks to go and I have no idea what I will do next. I would like to go back to STS, but dread those hour long workouts. I have been kind of spoiled with these which are about 35-40 minutes long. Maybe I'll use STS to do a one body part per day rotation, not sure how to figure that out.

Valerie, I can't believe it, you described DH and me to a tee, when we are having company!! I try to talk myself into being that relaxed person that just loves having people over, but inside I am so worried that things are not "just right" and people will notice all the "wrong" things about the house, etc. This is just my family, not sure why I get those awful thoughts, it makes me not want to have anyone here.

Garance I did finally get into those Lucky Jeans that you mentioned here a while ago. I bought a pair, could not even get them up over my hips, and I wore them yesterday. These were my "goal" pants. DH here is the same, he drags everything in when he is working outside, grass, mulch mud, worse than the dogs. I need to wipe his "paws" more than the dog's! Glad you got those DVD's, let us know how you like them. Is it 5 different Zumba routines?

Josie, I can't wait to see you on the ride! Thanks for posting the blog address, so we can track your progress.

Joan, I did not like Meso 1 either, too fast and it seemed frantic to me. Loved meso 2, and meso 3 was good when I shortened the rest between sets. I FF to have them be about 1 minute. Post the oatmeal recipe, I love oatmeal and am always looking for different ways to eat it.

Well, off to get ready for work,

take care..

Deb congrats on the jeans!. a major success. Jeans tell a clearer story than any scale. wish I could say the same for me, but no. no progress. this last week was not the best for eating though I didn't gain, but no loss.

Why do we all worry so much about surface stuff??? MY house gets messy not truly dirty but it takes a while to put all that clutter away. the windows/screens were dirty but I'm sure no one would notice they're clean now. I don't look for that kind of thing when I visit someone, I don't know why I think they'd look at my house that way.
I'm good about dropping my shoes when I come inside, especially if I have dirt and grass on them. DH has gotten a little better..... now he steps inside, and yells for me to bring him whatever it is he came in for, but that beats having to vacuum his pathway as he tracks clumps of wet grass clippings from one end to the other.

Regardless, I get stressed about having people over, so I'm going to try and do it a couple times this summer and see if it makes it a little easier. I worry about the silliest things.

I forget if I said, we're leaving sat and won't be back til next thursday. Josie, hope your ride is a success. I'll check it out if I have online access but probably not after sat.

Guess I'm the weird one here, I really liked meso 1 and will repeat one disk today and tomorrow. If I can lift a weight at all, I can usually do 15 reps. there's a short span between that and loss of control for me, and I don't risk getting hurt. I'll see if that's different this time thru. the increments I need to increase don't always work. I have the weighted gloves and all the standard dumbbell sizes but the 5 lb jump is still too much.

I skipped the meso 1 leg disks cause we've been doing a lot of cycling and I've een doing treadmill regularly. did 30 on the bike and 35 on the treadmill yesterday.

Good morning,

Finished disc 19 last night .

You put 1c oatmeal in microwave bowl (large) with 1 3/4 cup water and 1/2 can pumpkin. Add 1t cinnamon and 1t vanilla and microwave for 2 min. I put sweetner on mine, dh used brown sugar and added raisins. I also had a can of light whipped cream and used 2T for an additional 20 calories. It was very good. This makes 2 servings. You can also add 1 serving vanilla protein powder to it according to BFFM recipe. The first time I used 1 min. oatmeal and it was mushy. Old fashioned oatmeal made it much better.

We shall see but this might have to be rest day. I plan to work all day.

Josie Have fun.

Other than cat hair my house is usually good enough. Since my entertaining is usually a hoard of relatives, I tell myself all the cleaning will need to be done after the party. I vacuum and clean the guest bathroom.

New Burn Notice is on tonight. Yea.

Joan

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did STS disk 18 for back and bis (60 min.).

Thanks for the blog, Josie, and the picture! I will try to keep up with the ride. You must be so excited.

Joan and Deb--I rather like meso 1 except for the endless pushups because it keeps my attention. My mind tends to wander in mesos 2 and 3 where I get kind of bored with the repetitions of the same exercise. Meso 1 just seems more creative to me in terms of variety. On the other hand, I have been getting doms from meso 2.

Sounds like everyone has husbands who "shed." Hah! My issue with entertaining is that I like everything more or less done in advance or I cannot really enjoy my guests, and that means serious planning and no improvisation.

This is graduation weekend, so a lot of "events" to attend. Tomorrow is the party for seniors in English, Saturday a party for Women's and Gender Studies seniors, and then graduation on Sunday. Hope the weather is good. Wearing those robes and hats can get very, very warm.

I've read very positive reviews of Burn Notice in EW, Joan. Never watched it, though. Maybe I will try it tonight.
