Finally Friday!

Good morning!

I just finished Cardio Coach #1. Still burning fewer calories than previously and working harder and faster. Not sure what that is all about. I am ready to chuck this HRM and buy a new one.

Valerie, I invested in 2 sets of PlateMates, which let you add 2.5 pounds to each DB so you don't have to do the 5 pound increment. Not cheap, but a good purchase. I could never go from 15 to 20 pound db's. These let me go to 17.5.

Joan, thanks for the recipe. I would have to do half, DH does not eat oatmeal.

Garance, lots of events for you this weekend, will you wear those new sandals? I just got a new pair at Famous Footwear that I love. I will see if I can find them on Zappos or Shoes.com and post a pic here. They are really comfortable, with a cork bottom.

Cathy, grandkids, gotta love them, even when they make you sick! LOL :D

Josie, if you see this, GOOD LUCK!!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Ellen Barrett's Barefoot Cardio (48 min.).

Deb, I am currently wearing a pair of Dansko platform sandals in a lime color. Very strappy. Yes, if you can post a picture, I would love a look-see.

Cathy, The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is part three of a series of books by Stieg Larsson. The first one is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the second is The Girl who Played with Fire. They are very big right now. There was a big feature on Larsson and the series in last Sunday's NYTimes mag. He died at the age of 50, just shortly before the first one was published. If you go to Amazon.com you will find plenty of reviews, and I suggest you read them before buying the books because you might not like them. The heroine is very unconventional, and Larsson was a very strong feminist. The Swedish title for the first one was Mann som Hatar Kvinner, translates as "Men who hate Women." I am almost finished with the final installment (563 pp.). Could not put it down!

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I am tempted to watch the Nat'l spelling bee tonight. I was a city champ in 7th grade and remember how scary it was.

Good afternoon,

Yesterday was a mess. I finally started working when dil called. She needed me to come babysit because she had a doctors appt. I got there about 15 minutes later. A neighbor was with Luke and Elliot. Neighbor's husband had taken dil to emergency room. Dil had heart burn and pain down her left arm. Of course she thought it was a heart attack. Six hours later she gets home and was told her arm is sore. Of course knowing that she has a new baby that would have been my first guess. She worries about everything. Needless to say yesterday became my rest day??? I ate too many calories because there really wasn't anything I should eat at their house.

Burn notice was a disappointment. The first shows were more clever.

Too funny... husbands 'shed' & is that the truth. It's taken a while( and some tantrums) but both of us almost always take off boots before we go further than the laundry room. so that room is dirty but it's localized dirt!

I'm mostly packed for our trip. 5 days worth of food is a lot of planning. we pass by a couple small stores during the 5 days but it's best to bring it along. I bring some treats but try to keep things reasonable and healthy cause junk is easy to come by, but healthy ingredients aren't.

We watch TV series after they're out on disk so we don't get the commercials. we tried Burn Notice but didn't like it much. Didn't like the vampire one either, ick. we just finished Mad Men. a really excellent series, not an obvious story line and quite accurate on capturing the late 50's-early 60's era. I don't remember people drinking that much but I was a kid. but the clothing and atmosphere are accurate. we've watched several seasons of Lost, and had enough of it. silly and tedious. I'm trying to think of the name of the series about the highschool chem teacher who gets cancer and ends up cooking meth. Sounds ridiculous but it's excellent... ooh.. Breaking Bad. it's funny, some series start out strong and deteriorate, others build slowly and get better over a season.

and speaking of bad, we watched "Crazy Heart" the other night and were really not enthused. Jeff Bridges does a good job as he usually does but overall it was obvious and disappointing. not awful but whenever a movie has some young very attractive woman springing into bed with some very much older, fairly unattractive, unsavory guy, it just does not seem reasonable & destroys credibility for me.

Lynda, did you see the "dragon " movie? I had not heard of this series before the movie.

Did an hour of cardio yesterday and will get in a weight workout today as we will be getting plenty of cardio tomorrow and for the next 5 days.

Joan, your DIL sounds like a bit of a hypochondriac. some people over react to even the simplest things.

Josie, great picture. Hope your trip and camping turn out successfully. I will try to check it out next week when we get back.

Deb, I thought weighted gloves would be enough to get me thru transitions but I'm not so sure. I need to check out plate mates.

Good evening,

Tried bbl high and tight instead of leg disc. It was a keeper. I will be sore. I take that back I am sore already.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning was Housemax, and I am just sitting here before going off to get some highlights for my hair, then a seniors in Women and Gender Studies reception.

Valerie, I have heard of all those series but the only one I tried was Mad Men. I don't know if it was because I started late that I could not get into it or what. The pacing just seemed so slow and everything was so mannered that it felt false. In terms of HBO series, the one I really miss is the Sopranos. Absolutely loved it. I did see the Swedish film of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and thought it was extremely well done and managed to convey a very complicated plot with care. Unfortunately, Hollywood is going to try to take over the series and do its own versions of these great books, and I dread the outcome.

Joan, I love High and Tight, and yes, I bet you have doms or ioms (immediate onset.....). Your dil sounds like an absolute pain (Sorry!). I don't think I could be patient with someone like that.

I watched the spelling bee last night, and things have really changed from when I was in it. It seemed like all the words were foreign, not English. I was very irritated with a judge who could not, to save his life, pronounce confiserie with a French accent, and as a result, the poor girl could not really hear the word properly. Seemed grossly unfair to me.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies!

Hi all,

Busy today, took Keegan to Agility class, out to lunch with DH, then went and bought new running shoes and a new heart rate monitor. I hope this one works better.

I really should be out in the garden weeding more, but I just did not have the enthusiam or energy to do it today.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend....

LOL! deb, that's right, it is worth it to be sick to have my babies. and i was glad to be w/them and comfort them. they are so precious.

garance, thanks, i guess you have figured out i'm not much of a feminist. :) i may look at them. i do like mysteries, though. i thought they sounded like mysteries. that is cool that you were a spelling bee champion!

AND!! i got the focus workouts and did the Hiit one today, i love it. wanna do the stretch, yoga one tomorrow. i just love tracie, so i love most of her workouts.
ya'll have a great rest of the weekend.

The paper had a St. Louis 5th grader who just missed being in that spelling contest. She misspelled an African word. The paper mentioned you had to look at words from all over the world now.

No wo yet. It's either cardio or disc 21 and the opposite tomorrow.
