Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/3

Good morning,

Today I did LIVE Stepped Up Boot Camp, 42 minutes, 252 calories. This was a great workout. I was a little unsure when I read/saw that she uses the step for the cardio portion of the rounds, but decided I would try it and modify where I could, and if not, just insert something else. I found that the step is not needed at all for the cardio. it can all be done without it, if you prefer. She also uses the step for the core moves, which are very doable. I will definitely be doing this one again.

Judy, good job on the tutorials! I want to do those all in order too. It would be a nice cardio workout. I can't believe how many people are in stores like Home Depot and Walmart. Do you know if they have any limit to how many can be in the store at one time?

Diane Sue, that coffee pod sounds like a great sleep aid! I saw the brand on Amazon, but not they type for calming....or to help sleep. That's very strange about them asking you about a password change. I hope all goes well with your brother's knee surgery.

Waving to Carolyn, Valerie, & Lori,

Take care,

good morning. I did Stacked upper body and the ab workout last night just before dinner. boring rainy day. today looks like more of the same.
some things are opening up here, like state parks for day use. we are hoping other outdoor areas will officially open too. we will be able to mt bike this week we think. we use one state park for that but usually ride closer to home if we can. not expecting camping places to open for a while. Last year we barely were able to use our camper because of trouble getting the skylight fixed. so far cant use it this year either, and it looks like summer will be the soonest. when things open up I think it will be bedlam with all the pent up desire for vacations and travel.
diane sue hope your brother has his knee fixed soon. so many things had to get put off. our dentist is reopening soon.
I cant believe I'm all excited about getting the air fryer! boredom! checked and order is delayed until Tuesday.

Today I did Jane Adams Morning Energy practice. Deb, nice job with Live Stepped Up Bootcamp. It’s good that you decided to give it a try even with the step. Many times you can just go to the floor for step moves and not use the step.

Valerie, yes, boredom can change our perspective on many things. I can’t believe that I am enjoying my sewing machine again after years of not doing anything with it.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Lori. I hope that everyone is having a wonderful day.

Good morning,

Today I did LIVE Quick Fix Cardio, 32 minutes, 231 calories,

Valerie, why would you not be able to use your camper this year? Is it still the skylight issue? not something to do with the virus etc? I would think 2 people somewhere in the woods alone, would be okay to do. Our city parks were open yesterday, and all kinds of people walking around, no masks, etc. DUMB!

Carolyn, nice job on the Energy Practice. Yes, most cardio only moves that are done on the step can be done on the floor. Now if she was doing a combo of some kind, I would not have even attempted it. :)

Hi to Lori, Judy, & Diane Sue

Take care,

This morning I did All Out Low Impact HiiT, no disc cardio premix. That was 33 minutes and 235 calories burned. My average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 147.

Deb, great job with Live Quick Fix Cardio. Our times and calories burned were similar today.

Waving hello to Valerie, Diane Sue, Judy, and Lori.

Deb so far states are opening parks and some trails but no ( or little) camping is open. states are discouraging travel outside your area. supposed to quarantine in place for 2 weeks after you get to Idaho or Montana or WA.. we think forest service campgrounds are open this week in MT but the quarantine thing is still in place. our camper has plates from WA so we can't fake it! private campgrounds are open but usually they're set up for big motor homes, and those people seldom use the public bathrooms so they are self isolating. we could try to stay in dispersed sites but if locals are using them, it might not be possible. dispersed camping is usually fine but this is an odd situation. the sticking point is the bathrooms. campgrounds are not set up to sanitize bathrooms especially not after every user. we are thinking we will drive in our car in a couple weeks, so only gas/rest area stops. then we are in our house and have a vehicle with MT plates. we think the skylight is fixed because its rained a lot and no leaks but will wait until travel opens up a little more clearly before we go.

weigh in day and a good number. lost 3.2 lbs since last Monday. so my increase last week was just temporary before a significant drop. Finally.

went xc skiing today. 4.5 hours up and back down. snow was very nice, finally. a lovely day. lots of bear and bobcat tracks but no actual critters. this is about a million calorie burn.

the tribal casino near us is talking about reopening in a few days. I hope they get extremely negative publicity. other tribal casinos were going to hold off for a few more weeks, but if one tribe does this, the others will be tempted to follow. of all the things that are NOT "essential services", this has to be the top of the list. they are a bunch of greedy self serving pigs..... and that is the nicest thing I have ever said about them. a pox on their house. no restaurants, no hair or nail salons, so many people out of work, no schools, and they are acting like a casino is an essential business?

This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Box and Tone, 31 minutes, 152 calories, heart rate 123/163, wearing a 4 Lb vest, 2,532 steps. I then did Raw Descending Pyramid Upper Body. I realized last night that I did not have this one written down. For some reason I kept thinking of Ascending Pyramid. I liked this one so much better. I think it came out when I was having all of the neck and shoulder issues so bad and knew I could not do it.
Descending Pyramid was 69 minutes (actual 60 minutes) heart rate 95/ 124, 1,569 steps, 160 calories. Kelly does have worksheets on her website for this which is helpful. I finished with Fit Bit Ease Upper Body Tension 16 minutes, 45 calories, 11 steps. I also did some major foam rolling.

Raw Descending Pyramid
the worksheet has 3 sets and a column for notes, but this has 4 sets of each exercise. It moves quickly as it is 40/20 the 20 is used for a break between or you follow Kelly and do abs. Kelly tries to get more reps with each set as you lower the weight. Requires a bench or step. I made notes on suggestions by Kelly and will ad them to a fresh work sheet and put it in my notebook. Kelly suggests for shorter workouts doing back and shoulders as a workout and chest and triceps as a workout. She says she would skip the biceps as they are worked doing the other work. She puts biceps in for those who like to have the biceps.

One arm Back row 15#/22 reps; 12#/25 reps; 20#/26 reps; 8# / 50 reps followed by abs knee in off bench
repeat on left side weights and abs

Cable or Dumbbell rows 15#Dbs/19 reps; 12# Dbs/17 reps wider; 12# dbs even wider/ 15 reps; 12# close reverse grip 17 reps; abs are drop plank between each set and final just plank hold (could have went heavier I think)

Shoulder Press (if shoulder problems do upright row) 12# dbs /12 reps; 10#/8 reps; 8#/12 reps; 5# 10 reps
lower leg lifts done between sets

lateral raise 10# dbs/10; 8#dbs/15 reps; 5# dbs 18 reps; 5# dbs more of a pulse 43 reps abs between crunches

bent over lateral raise-(Kelly lays prone on step and does the lateral raises suggest you can use a ball)
8# dbs 12 reps ; 5# dbs 12 reps; 5# 12 reps; 5# 13 reps abs between flip over and do scissors

Skull Crushers 12# dbs 13 reps; 10# dbs 15 reps; 8# dbs 13 reps; 5# dbs run the skull crushers
abs between was sit ups with the weights on the bench

Tate Press (T) 12# dbs 11 reps; 10# dbs 13 reps; 8# dbs 15 reps; 5# dbs 29 reps (again short quick movement)
abs between sets was upper and lower crunch

chest flyes 12# dbs 12 reps; 10# dbs 15 reps; 8# dbs 16 reps; 5# dbs 49 reps abs bicycles

Bench Press 12# dbs 14 reps; 10# dbs 18 reps; 8# dbs 23 reps; 5# dbs alternating run abs Russian twist between sets

Hammer Curls 12# dbs 13 reps; 10# dbs 15 reps; 8# dbs 23 reps; 5# dbs run press; side to side bends abs between sets

Front Curls 12# dbs 10 reps; 10# dbs 13 reps; 8# dbs 15 reps; 5# dbs 75 reps run curls

Deb, when you go to one of the Wildcrafter coffee pods they have different choices. I looked up their website and checked them out as well. I purchased the Immune one first then the decaf calm one. There are two more. I think one is a focus one or something and one for energy? I like that they actually list how much of each herbal and adaptogen is added to the coffee. I have never seen that before. I really like the Cardio Quick Fix workouts.

Valerie, I hope that you will be able to come up with a way to go to MT soon. I suppose having papers that say you own a home there would not count to get you in?

Carolyn, nice work with All Out Low Impact Hiit today.

I went to Walmart Market today. They were not really that busy, but man did I hate the 1 direction and the fact the whole back aisle where the dairy, meats and juices was blocked right down the center with crates of merchandise so you could not cut across. I back tracked once to get to the other side which had stockers also working. I did it once and thought I would go back when I remembered I did not get milk for my husbands cereal and stuff the next couple of weeks. I forgot to go back so now I have to get it somewhere else because I am not going back there. About 3/4 of the people had on masks as they have a sign in front recommending wearing masks (not demanding). Employees all had masks and gloves.
Lots of people out today. Walkers around the walking paths and even a group playing some sport with a net out where they have sport groups go near the soccer place.

This morning I did Strong and Sweaty Bootcamp, rounds 1-4, for 34 minutes and 180 calories burned. My average heart rate was 118 and maximum heart rate was 147.

Valerie, congratulations on your weight loss. 3.2 pounds is a fantastic loss!

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Box and Tone and Raw Descending Pyramid. The Descending Pyramid sounds like a good strength workout. It seems to be a bit longer that Kelly’s usual workouts.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good afternoon,

No workout today. I was up early, ( lab appointment for 6:15 am), showered etc and when I got home, not in the mood to do it all over again after a workout.

Carolyn, Nice job on the workouts! I forgot all about the "All Out Low Impact" cardio workouts on x-Train. Thanks for bringing that back! I especially noticed when you did the "no discs" premix. Was that #10?

Valerie, Congratulations on the weight loss! Makes sense now on the campgrounds. I forgot about those public bathrooms. No idea how they can maintain social distancing at a casino...:(

Diane Sue, nice job on the workout! To try those pods I would have to have John bring his office Kurig home. I would like to try one of those first, before buying a whole box. I hear you on the shopping thing. We went to a grocery store today, they are limiting all meat products to 2 packs per person. At least in this store, I would say that 99% of the shoppers had masks on. One check out person had a mask on, but pulled down to under her chin. Unbelievable. We decided to do the self check option.

Hi to Judy & Lori,

Take care,

I'm sure we can go.... no one is "checking papers" at the border! Lots more people out on the roads in the last week. until camping is opened up I would feel guilty of traveling to another state when we probably should not be. washington has more virus than any place we'd go to visit. state parks are open for day use but not camping. our camper has a bathroom but the more you use the bathroom the sooner you need to empty it out, and campgrounds have the dump stations, which wont be open if the campground is closed. so we will hold off a little longer.

Carolyn, I used Xtrain mostly for the weight workouts. might never have done the cardio workouts, or if I did, I don't remember them. . I definitely have more DVDs than I need!

did a hike this morning, 2 hrs 15 min. a local hike with great spring flowers and a lot of elevation gain and loss so its not an easy stroll. the madrona trees are blooming and the fragrance was incredible. lovely!

I've been stuck at a plateau for weeks, and had even gained a pound, until I weighed in monday morning. wow I was very happy about that. I've worked hard, I deserved it. I weigh less now than I have in 20 or maybe 30 years. still too much, but moving in the right direction. I never put on a lot of weight but have not been able to keep this 10-15 pounds away for long.

Good afternoon ladies!

Sorry I never posted last week. Meant to a few times then got distracted. The weather has been nice so I started working in the yard getting the stone patio set up. I have a small wire fence that protects my plants from GiGi and she has completely destroyed it. Plants are still there so happy about this. :)

Nothing out of the ordinary with workouts last week. I am going to have a really hard time going back to work. I go to bed later and get up later. I usually do not start working out until around 10! Yikes! What happened to me!! Lol!!!

This week I added Barre Blend from Beach Body. As you know, I love Barre and have been eyeing this program. So far it has not disappointed me and I am loving it. I do a Barre Blend then a Bounce. Pretty much my happy zone!

So my husband and I still have not received our stimulous check yet. I am mentioning this because my friend Christopher, that died last Fall, received his check in the mail this week. All his mail is forwarded to me and I was really surprised to see this. Obviously, it needs to go back. We are fortunate that we are not in desperate need for our check. Some people really need this. Just thought it was so bizzare Chris got one!

Looks like everyone has been staying active. :)

We are completely staying away from Walmart and large stores. A Walmart close by to us has 80 people (as of this morning) that have tested positive for covid. Then a nursing home 60 mins away had 40 people die! we are not ready to go anywhere soon. Starting tomorrow, Governor announced if you leave your house...mandatory mask for all, unless under 2 years old. Bob and I are fine with this. Right now May 18th, Massachusetts will start the slow reopening. As we get closer to this date to see if it changes.

Valerie...How do you like your air fryer? I think you mentioned a couple of weeks ago you bought one?

Hope you all continue to stay safe and healthy! Have a great night!

Lori the air fryer arrived this afternoon. I toasted some nuts in it to make sure it worked. already had something else going for dinner tonight.
what do you do in yours? If I find salmon I will do that recipe Judy posted. if no salmon, will try other fish and potatoes first off. I'm going to look thru the special group on WW that focuses on air fryer things. want to try asparagus too.

doing a grocery run today to Costco. not senior hour . Judy I hope to get salmon or steelhead and will try that recipe. Costco was out of most things last time. hope this is a better trip. I'm getting the idea people adapt things they already like and make them in the air fryer. I like roasted potatoes both sweet and white, and the recipes that came with the air fryer all soak the potatoes for at least 30 min in cold water. I never do that with potatoes. I hope it works without. my potatoes are not like french fries so maybe that is why the soaking step. a rainy day so I want to test run a few things.
Lori the county I live in had the first big nursing home outbreak killing at least 40 people. we've had a couple thousand cases in this county. now that there is such a push to open up businesses, it will be easy to forget how easily it can spread. this is not going away anytime soon, just shifting to different groups and locations. some kind of indoor workout today.

I didn’t work out this morning. I needed to do a grocery run and I just didn’t feel like rushing through a workout.

Lori, that’s great that you found another streaming barre workout. I’ve heard of several situations where stimulus checks have gone out to people who are deceased.

Valerie, I hope that your Costco trip is more productive than last time. They are limiting the packages of chicken and meat that people can buy. Kroger’s is doing the same, but that‘s not a problem for me.

Deb, All Out Low Impact HiiT is a nice workout. When I do the disc portion I modify some of the moves and do them on the floor.

Hi to Judy and Diane Sue.

Yesterday I did Step Boss Step Sync timesaver finished product combos 1-3 done 3 times which means 6 times in actuality. I forget that every time and get kind of bored with it before I am done. I chose it because of time constraints. This was 37 minutes, 180 calories, heart rate 116/140, 3,634 steps. I finished off with Step Boss Extended lying stretch (why did they name this that? It is lying and sitting), 10 minutes, 23 calories, 13 steps. Total time was 47 minutes, 200 calories. My husband and I went out to buy my youngest grandson a bike for his birthday and to lunch at Braums. They let us sit at a table and eat It was nice to get out for a bit.
Today I am taking the day off of exercise. I am tired anyway as I got 5 hours of broken up sleep. Trying to switch my hours to accommodate early activities. I had an arthritis appointment early and they also did the yearly bloodwork. I went ahead and got some things from Sprouts and filled up my car with gas. It was a little less than half a tank.

Valerie, great job on the weight loss. I wonder why they would want you to soak potatoes in water first. I do not like it when a recipe calls for soaking something first. I find I end up bypassing the recipe, as I don't generally plan ahead enough for that. That includes soaking nuts and beans. There are a lot of cardio options with the premixes on X Train. Have you done hard strikes? I used to do the All Out Low Impact just floor cardio when my knee was mending after surgery.

Carolyn, nice work today. Kelly has several long weight workouts. Front side and back side and descending pyramids can both be split if necessary. Her ascending pyramids is long and could be shorter if one fast forwarded through the long breaks and maybe went lighter. Her and her cohost on that one take turns with sets and that is the break. Only on a couple of exercises do they do it at the same time. Most of her workouts are under an hour. A lot are between 30 and 45 minutes.

Deb, I am never in the mood to come home after showering and do a sweaty workout which requires another shower. We rarely do self checkout because if everyone did that those employees would be without work. We did when we went to Walmart and purchased the bike though. That is all that I saw at the big Walmart and we were fast in to buy the bike and fast out the door. They did not have much meat left at Walmart Market the other day and no restrictions. I bought 3 because there were not that many. Today I went by Sprouts for nondairy yogurt, ginger kombucha, and picked up a roast. They had meat. I wish I could try a lot of things before purchasing. I bought some Focus coffee that is Bare Organics in coffee pods at Sprouts. I like it as it has cinnamon in it and probiotics in it along with lions mane and ashwagandha. Not decaf though so I limit to one cup in the morning. There was two others, but I think one was energy and I don't recall the other. I wish I could find more decaf flavored coffee that tastes good. I like Green Mountain decaf vanilla which I can seem to only find on Amazon. I don't like flavored sweeteners or syrups so that option is out. Just flavor and some sort of creamer without sugar. I have taken a liking to using SO Delicious Oat Milk creamer. Though the vanilla has 3 grams of sugar. I was going to buy the plain one today and accidently purchased so delicious coconut creamer unsweetened. Will have to make another trip soon. Besides I bought two new flavor raspberry chocolate RX bars and wishing I had bought more. They are the best yet. Usually I favor the maple sea salt.

Carolyn, I hope shopping went well for you. I went to Sprouts this morning and not too many people there. I had only one person in front of me at the register. I find it kind of causes some clock watching and rushing when I try to get in a short workout before going out.

Lori, I have been staying up late and getting up late, hanging around reading and stuff and it ends up near noon before I workout and bathe. I am trying to turn it back around a bit. I have heard that about some stimulus checks. Ours was auto deposited in our bank account since that is how we get our income tax funds. We got it a couple of weeks ago. I hope you get yours soon. I have avoided big Walmart till yesterday and it was really the only place we could think of to go buy our grandson 6 a birthday present. We bought him a bike and went straight to self check out. Only one person waiting in front of us there. It was not bad. I still would stay away other than that. I mostly order from Amazon other than grocery store. That would news about that Walmart would keep me away for a long time. Will you be going back to work where you were working at? The restaurant business has had a really hard time and it is bad for our economy. Stay safe.

My appointment at the arthritis center was interesting. They did not have me wait in the car. My doctor's usual assistant was in the entry with a laptop taking names as we came in, going over a question list on health like asking about coughing, fevers etc. Then he took my temp with a device and sent me inside to the check in desk. Not everyone had masks on, including the staff. They had a chair in front of each window that you were supposed to stand behind. They gave me my clipboard with 4 pages to fill out like usual and checked to see if I need pen, which I did since I had my crossbody bag and no pen. He handed me one of their pens with the big floppy silk daisy on top. He did not have gloves or a mask. My thoughts was how do they disinfect that stuff? I counted 15 people in the waiting room and they had removed 1 seat from between each. Once I got back to the examining room it went fairly quick. Other than my doctors assistant was in front and they had another guy in the office that was not very professional. He kept pulling on his mask and pulling the back of his pants up. He could not find the blood pressure heart rate cuff and had to go hunt for one. Came back with another and when he opened the box it was dirty. I saw the grimy stuff on the screen and he wiped it with a dry paper towel and put it on my wrist. It did not turn on and he took it back off and proceeded to hunt for batteries which he could not find. He left to get another as my doctor was walking in and I heard my doctor ask where his assistant was and he told him he was still in front. It was just weird and I felt I really needed to extra sanitize when I got to the car. Instead of using the sanitizer I had in the car I used the one I had in my purse that I had put way too much alcohol in. I had to go back out and wait for someone to come to a window again so I could hand the paper and then they sent me to the lab waiting area where I barely sat down and they called me back for my blood work. They offered to give me an appointment card and I told them I would just check it out on the health app. I talked to him about the dry mouth thing and he said sjogrens and told me there is a medicine but most that use it have issues with extreme sweaty and stuff and advised I try other alternatives like sugar free lemon drops and biotene dry mouth which I already have.

taking day off today.
making some sweet potatoes in air fryer right now. judy I got some salmon and made it. I liked it a lot! gave DH chicken. tried to have him taste a tiny piece but he acts like its toxic waste. I bought a beautiful fillet of sockeye salmon that was previously frozen so I will have salmon again maybe tomorrow since I don't want to refreeze. easy to make in the air fryer ( yes I like it!) and nice because I can see it thru the window so its done right. I might give it a minute less next time. the mustard/brown sugar topping kept it moist. a keeper! thank you for sharing. potatoes turned out good, not as crispy as in the regular oven but this was my first try.

diane sue that sounds like a fairly unprofessional experience considering how careful most places are being. I solved the pen issue by bringing my own. I haven't used a "public pen" in a long time. sjogrens? I just was looking it up. my mouth was dry at night. turns out allergies cause my nose to be semi blocked so I was breathing thru my mouth. I had looked up the treatment and it is low dose plaquenil or methotrexate. pollen is down so my problem went away but I also keep a water bottle next to me at night.

did the costco run today, had yogurt but no chicken. except for wings and I don't eat those. limited quantities too.
