Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/26

Hello Ladies,
Today I did Ultimate Yogi Yin Yoga which was 65 minutes and 108 calories burned. I am always amazed at how good my body feels after doing this workout.

Deb, thanks for starting the thread this morning.

Diane Sue, great job with IMAX 2 and Cardio and Weights Step. I have never looked at that Cardio and Weights premix.

Valerie, congratulations to you for doing such a tough ride yesterday.

Judy, Cardio Party and Stacked Sets Lower are both great workouts. Having great coworkers is a definite plus for any job.

Hello to Lori. I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

thank you Carolyn. we knew today was going to be shopping day, so we worked extra hard yesterday. we did a lot of steps today but no heavy breathing. I got my step delivered yesterday. it was $69 and came with 2 risers. I added extra ones I have from the high step that I don't like, and I now have a weight bench! proud of myself for recycling thigs I already had, and I have a flexible set up. weather is nice now so not sure I will be doing indoor exercise this visit but ready to use. maybe will do stacked Upper to test it.

Today was rest and stretch so I did Raw Stretch and Foam roller workouts. I felt great afterward. I was up so late last night. The storm warning hit when I was getting ready for bed and I ended up staying up till midnight watching the weather on tv till I was sure my family was all safe from tornadoes. One hit a hotel in El Reno Ok which is not real far away as they were moving across. It took it out and I am not sure how many fatalities. I heard 4 at church this morning :(

Carolyn, I used to use that premix a lot. There were several workouts that I used the step portion only on. MIC, Step, Jump and Pump were a couple of them. The high step training advanced had a cardio premix with the high step that is short and intense. I used to use it a lot as well.
Those slow stretches feel so good. Kelly holds the stretches for awhile on her Raw stretch. It really loosens things up. I was so stiff this morning and had a headache. By the time I was done it was gone :)

Valerie, where did you get the step? I was looking at the one that I had in my wish list on Amazon today and it has gone up to 96 dollars. For awhile it was on sale for something like 59. I kind of would like to get the one with the extra grooves in it and the platform grid is different. Mine is cracking between those long grooves on the grid and air is getting underneath it. Mine is really old. It is the second one that I had purchased.

I just checked the news and they are still searching through debrees. The tornadoes touched down in several areas causing damage. 2 people were killed for sure. It was so sudden, inlet the dog out and right away rain and wind kicked in, our phone alarms were going off and sirens started. Who can sleep with all of that going on?

Diane Sue-I'm sorry about the tornadoes :( That is horrible.

Valerie-That is a nice step. Mine is the older style one. I think I like your platform better.

judy its the same as my other one. I do limited workouts on the step. never going to like Step! this one will be to get me off the floor with weights, tricep push ups, pull overs etc. and for the times I do my limited step workouts. I had brought this small step here that was a long ago gift, but it's small and unstable. WAY to easy to flip when putting weight on it and too small to use even for limited step workouts.
I never got to use my new set up yesterday. all that shopping and unloading and putting things away, and it was time for dinner.
we were in HD yesterday and I thought of you and the million steps you accumulate.

Diane sue, be careful out there! Ive said before , I could not live with that risk. it wasn't the only reason I moved but it was a contributor. some years are worse than others for weather patterns. when I was a kid it seemed like wisconsin took more hits. out here we have earthquakes to worry about so nothing is risk free and perfect.

This morning I did part of Step Blast, combos 1 and 2, for 33 minutes and 260 calories burned. My average heart rate was 135 and maximum heart rate was 161. After that I did JS 15 Minute Calorie Blast which was an additional 101 calories burned.

Diane Sue, the news and pictures from that tornado are awful. I’m thankful that you and your family are safe.

Valerie, the Step makes a great weight bench. I use all of my risers for weight lifting because my legs are longer. I need the extra height.

Hello to Deb, Lori, and Judy. Have a great Memorial Day.

This morning I did Lite Rev'd Up Rumble stopping at the stretch, 38 minutes, heart rate average 142, max 172, met 8.0, 255 calories, 3,553 steps. I then did Lite Cardio Party time saver mix #4 kickbox only, 26 minutes, met 7.5, heart rate average 139, max 164, 2,310 steps. I finished off with Lite extended stretch #1, 13 minutes, 35 calories, met 3, 33 steps. Total time was 77 minutes, 450 calories, 5,896 steps.

Judy, I don't think I will go into Home Depot again without thinking of you and your experiences there.

Valerie, I am hoping to get that step soon. I like the change in the grid on it. I looked at the one that was 96 dollars and it is the one with the two special risers "freestyle" That hooks in for incline work. That seems to be the only difference. I have never had problems with the original one for incline work, but I wouldn't rely on it for standing on that way like in the picture on Amazon. I am not sure why I would want to stand on it in an incline position. Generally after I have been shopping and getting things put away when I get back, I am not wanting to do m of anything else. I do not remember much risks in Arizona over the years I lived there. Maybe extreme temperatures. Enough at times for the asphalt to be hot when I walked barefoot.

Carolyn, my grandson's girlfriend was saying how scared she was when they said that hotel tornado was coming since she lives right around the corner from that area.
I don't think I have ever done just the combos on Step Blast. I used to do the challenge portion at the end as an add on. It seemed years ago I used to look for the toughest parts to do, where as now I am more into something a bit less intense..

I had purchased 2 of the slant risers that look like the regular risers except with an extra groove. might make them a little more stable. they stack right in with the plain risers, just a lighter color. I know I didn't pay a lot for them, but there were some other slanted risers that were very expensive. I have accumulated things over years. some gets used a lot, the slanted risers, not as much. I don't have a weight bench here, so I think I will finally get my moneys worth.

I remember baby sitting for my cousin and his neighbor in a 2 level flat, with 4 little kids, and going to the basement with a flashlight thinking I would have to take them all down there if a tornado touched down close by. it was a massively stressful night because I wasn't sure how close it was to where they lived. would never do that again.

Valerie, I use most of my stuff that I have right now. As far as slanted risers , it would probably be safer. But as low as the step is to the floor, I don't think I would get hurt if it slid. Just not standing on it slanted. I think I saw workouts at one time that used another bench that slanted for lunges and things like that. Something about it being more comfortable doing it that way. I don't think the idea really caught on all that much.
When we had shelters, I always vacuumed them and set off bug bombs and aired out before storm season hit. I did not want to crawl down into a hole with critters. I registered them so that they would know where to look for them. I suppose a basement would be nicer as far as a bit more open most of the time. I would sure hate being trapped underground. Just a little while in a shelter with a bunch of people, and two dogs was hot, sticky, and made me feel like I really needed air and wanted out. The one we had put in in the one yard had two air vents that turned. And cell phones do not work down there to call for help.

Good morning.

No workout yesterday. Good news is that my knee is almost back to normal now, and hip is not hurting at all! I don't know exactly what helped, but I did start some stretching for my knee and it seemed to make it feel better.

Carolyn, that's great that that yoga workout helps so much.

Valerie, that was a good deal on that step with 2 risers. I know what you mean about those slanted risers. I got suckered into buying the really expensive ones ( I think they were from Cathe's site when she was still selling workout stuff) and don't use them at all anymore. Easier to just remove one of the risers on one end. I see that Cathe does that in her own workouts, doesn;t use the special slanted ones anymore either.

Diane Sue, that must be so scary...glad that your family is ok. The step I have is really old...it is still in great shape. It's different than the one that Valerie posted, the top has ridges, not smooth like the one in the picture.

Judy, went to HD the other day, specifically the Garden center...Thought about you and the number of steps you get in working there. I was helped by a young woman who looked frazzled. I said that the stock was pretty picked over and she said yes, it has been crazy busy since Friday.

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Great news on the knee and hip! Bummer you don’t know what caused it or what fixed it but terrific it is getting better by itself and won’t need some kind of bigger fix.
I used the step as a bench yesterday and did stacked upper My old high Step has a ridged surface too. you’re right . New one is smoother material with a slight texture to it. Since I have the angled risers I will use them . I might have gotten them same time as I bought the older I step but I have a weight bench there, so maybe they were part of a package deal ? I don’t remember. My wrist is working fine, stacked upper went fine. I need a few more weights here. Heaviest I have is 10.

We are hiking somewhere today . spring is the best for wildlife watching

This morning I did Total Body Giant Sets. My time was 61 minutes and 305 calories burned. My average heart rate was 114 and maximum heart rate was 151.

Deb, that’s great news about your knee and hip. Regular stretching makes a big difference in how I feel. It would be helpful to know the cause of your problems, but that isn’t always possible.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

This morning I did Kellys new Raw Ripped and Ride June 2019, 49 minutes(45 actual) heart rate average 118, max 159, met 7, 279 calories, 1,755 steps. I then did Kelly's Sculpting RX workout #2 with the light weights. I used 8's she suggests 5-7# I don't have 7#. This was 32 minutes, 165 calories, met 6.2. I forgot to turn on my devices to get the step count. I believe it was around 1500, because I usually have about a thousand before I start and when ending total steps today was 3,646. 437 calories total and time was 81 minutes.

Deb, I am so glad that you are doing so well finally :) I never purchased those slanted risers. They were so much money and I felt I was doing fine without them. I am sure instructors get some help by using certain products. Beach Body was terrible about that. I remember when they kept using the high step and none were available. They kept posting ways to tear apart a full size and make it into one. I used a tool box/chest that was 14 inches tall for my high step for a very long time. Of course when they finally marketed them, Cathe came out with the dvds that used them and I think if I remember right that is when the high step training advanced and those dvds came out. My step is the old with the grooved lines and they are cracking. I am ready for a new one. The other says cushioned cover? I was wondering if it felt different. Hope it holds up for step workouts.

Valerie, didn't Cathe use and sell a different type of step when she did some workouts? Maybe it was Slow and Heavy?? Enjoy the wild life. My husband was mentioning yesterday when we were coming home that our neighborhood has the most deer in one place that he has seen around here.

Carolyn, nice work today with Stacked Sets.

we hiked today, 5.5 hours. we spent at least an hour sitting on top of the peak, around 8000 feet. it was a grunt. saw loads of bison with babies. tons of elk, no babies yet. pronghorns. mule deer. a herd of bighorn ewes. we saw a fox! we have had zero luck seeing foxes but saw a fluffy little guy with something in his mouth running near the road. he was more blond than red but a fox for sure. it was on other side of the road and in a spot we could not stop, but we saw him pretty well. also osprey, pelicans, northern harriers, some other hawks. flowers were lovely. OMG the crowds are here. we drove in, parked, and went up the trail and saw only 2 people coming down. during the off season you can drive thru and use turnouts to look at things, but once it gets busy, it is unpleasant. and its busy maybe left over from the weekend. I love this place, but during peak months you need to use carefully or be made crazy by tourists.

I remember seeing a weird slanted riser that looked awkward to use. mine look like a regular riser, but have bigger grooves to hold the edge of the step topper. I don't remember if it was a package deal with the big step or if I ordered them separately. I used them enough to see they worked, but with the adjustable weight bench there, I didn't use them often.

Valerie, your hike sounds so relaxing and enjoyable. I really prefer avoiding crowds of people. The other newer step that costs more has a pair of risers with larger grooves to fit onto the step to hold it in place. I think that is the one you purchased before and posted.

Hi Everyone,
This weekend was the busiest and craziest one I've had yet at HD. I had over 150,000 steps last week. Monday I was off and it was wonderful! Chris and I did some yard work and I did a Spinerval. Yesterday I did KCM Build & Burn, Lower Body Tabata and the Upper Body Burnouts. Total time was under 35 minutes. I was doing the LiTe only rotation, but I just needed a little more variety so I'm going to add in some ICE workouts and Build & Burn, since they are short. It's really hard for me to stick with only one series and especially with work as it is. I also got a gift for myself. It arrived yesterday:
https://www.tanita.com/en/rd901blackplus/
I'll set it up and start using it this week. I have the regular Tanita BF scale but it isn't bluetooth. This one will send data to my phone and it also has a lot of readings that my old one doesn't.

Deb-I'm so glad that your knee and hip are better! That is great news! Everyone was frazzled at HD this weekend. It was total insanity. Everyone employee on the floor had 3 or 4 customers coming at them at once asking for help or trying to find something. I've never experienced anything like this. I am so happy that I had Monday off.

Diane Sue-That is so scary! I'm glad you and your family are ok. Nice job with Raw Ripped & Ride and Sculpting RX!

Valerie- your hike sounds wonderful! I bet it does get crazy with tourists there. That would take the enjoyment out of it for me.

Carolyn-Great job with Total Body Giant Sets!

Hi to Lori!
