Good morning, or should I say "afternoon"

Today I did the second workout on the new KCM "Body Shop"...interesting compound moves and I like the selection of premixes on this DVD.

I am hoping to get a couple of beds weeded in the yard....and maybe the pots for the porch planted. If I do that, I will be happy, Then tomorrow we can concentrate on weeding and mulching the large perennial garden.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!

good morning Deb.

I did major weeding yesterday... why do weeds grow so robustly?? I pulled a million. I keep the beds full of plants, less space for weeds to take hold. we have so many ferns here that they almost become weed- like and are hard to dig out. I transplant them to wild areas of our property. lots of stinging nettle to contend with in some spots.

Rode my new bike yesterday for a serious ride. wow. rode our regular route 25 miles to compare.... could not believe the difference. I have definitely been riding a too-small-for-me bike for years. the mechanics /weight of this bike are amazing. sections of the trail where I could barely manage 9 mph (grunting) I went thru at 12 mph with only mild effort. other sections I rode at 18-22 mph. DH could not get ahead of me. his new bike is nice too, but his old one fit well so this feels like "double" benefit for me... posture is different and my breathing is better. my legs were way less fatigued. even the seat was quite good. I have the front tipped downward slightly and it really helps me. I am so pleased with this...we both said we should have upgraded years ago! It is starting to look a little dirty and less "new" already..... inevitable when you ride after rain. I know we will be able to ride longer and more often. we spent a lot of money on these and it's fabulous that it's worth it. I'd be out there again today except it's raining.

Good evening!

Having a nice weekend with our company. Not getting much workout time in. But that's ok. I will catch on when my friend leaves. Still behing on my STS. Did Ride on Friday and today. Also walked chester 2.5 miles so I am still moving at least!!!!

Valerie...sounds like you and your husband will be really enjoying those bikes. Great speed too. Good for you!

Deb...hope you were able to get all your weeding done.

Today the weather finally broke. Hoping we will have some sunshine tomorrow.

Have a great night! Hi to everyone!!!!!

Lori

Good morning,

I did an iTread this morning, 35 minutes. Then we went to the nurserie and got some mulch....time to weed and mulch the beds in the yard. At least I get 2 done yesterday, the large perrienal is the killer.

Valerie, I'm with you...pulling a million weeds, just so they can come back a week later..ugh....I want a concrete yard! (not really) but maybe more lawn, less beds..Glad your bike turned out so well...I will keep that seat adjustment in mind if mine starts to bother me. I have not ridden enough yet to get to that point most likely.

Lori, we have some sunshine, it's about 60 degrees. I like it cooler for yard work so that is ok. I think RIDE and walking Chester are considered workouts!

Garance, I bought eye concealer/serum yesterday, can't think of it now...one of the Covergirl/Olay combinations ( like the foundation we used to get?)...when I go upstairs I will get the actual name etc.

Hi to Judy, & Josie,

Have a great day!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

Yesterday I did STS disk 19 for ch, sh, tris (69 min.), and this morning I did Pure Spice (57 min.).

What an ugly weekend--rain, rain, and more rain, and then last night we had to cover up all of the annuals I had planted and take in the hanging baskets because of the threat of frost. Today is much, much nicer, but they are threatening frost again tonight. Yesterday afternoon was a great time to go see Paul Taylor's dance company in Great Barrington. The final work was very funny, but the whole programme was very impressive. A couple of us also think we need to go back to Great Barrington to browse through all of the interesting shops we saw. A lot of antiques and vintage clothing stores. Maybe some afternoon.

That's great Valerie that you now have the right size bike. It must feel good.

Hey, Lori, maybe I will catch up to you on STS. Disk 19 felt interminable. I'm glad disk 20 tomorrow is much shorter.

Good morning everyone... I did xtrain disk one yesterday, ch, sh, back. this morning we ran out and did a 15 mile ride before the rain moves in. wet day coming, I can relate to rain, and more rain.
DH got some adjustments and a new seat yesterday for his bike and wanted to check how it turned out. all good. it's nice having a bike trail so close. if traffic were less careless, we could ride to the trail, only a mile away, but too many drivers are too inattentive and the road has no shoulder.

we're getting a temp fix on the interstate bridge within 2 weeks and a "repair" of the span that's in the river by September. such great news! we drove the detour yesterday to get to the bike shop, and it was tedious. can't imagine what a "normal" commute will be like until the temp is in place. we will avoid it if possible.
very scary to realize how many bridges are in the same condition as this one, where one hard hit can make the whole structure collapse. somewhere around $15 million to repair the sunken part, but that's only about 20% of the bridge, which will still be 'structurally deficient". Infrastructure sure is expensive. there are thousands of bridges around the country in similar or worse shape. a trucker with an oversize load hit the upper cross beams. his cargo got dented while the bridge itself collapsed... we saw it in person yesterday, and yes, looks just like the pics. a local car dealer had a security camera running and got the entire incident on tape... not sure if that footage was shown other than locally.

Good evening ladies.

My friend left today so things will be back to normal. Ate tons of food this weekend. One thing about coming to my house...we are never lacking in the food department. Especially when entertaining. It is endless!

Garance...And speaking of endless, yes disc 19 was so long! And yes you have now caught up with me. Tomorrow I plan to start where I left off disc 20 legs.

Judy...I finally did cycle max and it is a great workout out. My legs were really tired at the end. I do like Ride better though. The music is more upbeat.

Deb! You are funny. I laughed when I read your comment and reread what I typed and realized I was not clear at all. I have been able to spin because it is quite to do so. I wear headphones and watch the video on my Ipad. I have not been able to get my STS workouts in.

Valerie...sounds like the temporary fix will be good in the meantime. I have not seen the video of the collapse. You are right that it may be on only local news. Scary that so many bridges are in need of major repairs. I hat driving over them.

Hi to Josie! Hope you are feeling well.

Lori

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I ran/walked 4.3 miles then did part of Xtrain legs and a core workout. This afternoon I did Xtrain Chest, back and shoulders with the core 2 workout.
We didn't really do anything for the holiday. My husband has bronchitis so we just stayed around home. He really needed to get some rest. It was raining today so I got caught up on cleaning and reading.

Deb-We've got to get our flowers planted soon. Last year we planted too early and lost the first set to frost. We're in a condo, so we just have a small area in the front yard were we can plant. We are taking care of my father in law's yard and have been doing quite a lot of weeding there.

Valerie-You are riding pretty fast! Sounds like you are getting quite a lot of mileage in too! When I read your posts I get really motivated to get a new bike and get back to riding outside more. We were going to go biking this weekend but DH is sick :( so he couldn't do much of anything. He's taking antibiotics and a steroid pack for the next week so hopefully he will be much better by next weekend.
I'm glad to hear that you will have the bridge repaired soon and a fix until then. We don't have to cross any bridges were we live now, but when I was in Iowa I lived on the Mississippi River and was crossing bridges every day. I used to love running across them too. It's really scary to think of how many are in bad shape and could just collapse at any time.

Garance-It rained here all day too. I hope we don't have any more frost here but I wouldn't be surprised. Those shops in Great Barrington sound like fun! I hope you get to go back there soon.

Lori-Way to go, doing Ride 2 days in a row! Now I'm going to have to try that!

Hi Josie, hope you had a great weekend!

Judy

Lori-we must have posted at the same time. I found Cyclemax on Amazon as a 7 day rental for $1.99. I'm going to try it out this week. I watched a little of it and I think I agree with your assessment.

Judy

Good morning,

Back to work today, ugh...it just started raining....fit for the mood I am in. All because I have to go to work....well I guess the good news is it's a short week.

Garance, the eye stuff I got is "Covergirl /Olay Eye Rehab. It's a serum, concealer, eye brightener, I think those are the "claims"...it is really light and creamy..

Valerie, that bridge situation is very scary...hopefully the temp fix will hold!

Judy, I sometimes wish we were in a condo type place, with little yard, etc..but I don;t think they would put up with my 2 dogs and we really need a fenced in yard for them. They would go crazy staying in an apartment or condo. At least I can open the door and let them run outside when they are pent up and crazy.. Will your FIL be going into assisted living at some point?

Lori, it sounds like you had a nice visit with your friend. Yes, back to eating normally for me too...I hope!

Josie, hope you are better now..

Not much going on here, work, and home...glad I got some weeding done this weekend...

Take care,

It rained all day yesterday.... early morning ride was a good call. I love street riding but we are where we ride. we have a lot of community trails around here where one can ride long mileage on trails for walkers, bikes and horses only. only need to watch for cars at occasional cross walk areas. Regular roads, regular drivers? distracted drivers on phones scare me. we do some street rides but selected rural routes only, at low traffic times. no way am I riding with people zooming by at 60 mph 2 feet away.

Later yesterday I did xtrain bi's and tri's. I like the alternating method a lot.

judy we have bridges all over the place here due to lots of water and rolling terrain. no way to avoid them. but it's scary to hear how old some of them are. and even after spending all this money to fix this one, we still have a "structure critical" bridge that was built in 1955. it will have a new section, but only about 20% of the bridge (by my eyeball estimate) I haven't read if the $$$ will do anything to reinforce other segments of the bridge so the same thing can't happen again.

It's also weird to see all this local terrain on national news. we bought 3 cars at the car dealer where the bridge collapse video was shot!

we also didn't do anything special. we have so much time off now that fighting holiday crowds makes no sense. we have another long weekend next week. when we are home I need to load the schedule with upper body workouts. our trips all involve cycling or hiking so lower body should take care of itself. off to yoga...

it seems so weird to me having to worry about frost this late in the season. I was raised in the Midwest but I've forgotten what it was like.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did STS disk 20 for legs (49 min.).

Finally a nice summery day! Thanks, Deb on that new eye serum. I will take a look at it. Sorry you have to get back to the daily grind. You sound so ready to retire.

Valerie, I have friends in St. Paul, MN, and I don't know if you remember that awful bridge collapse over the Mississippi a few years ago, but one friend was actually on the bridge when it collapsed and her car was half on, half off part of the bridge and she thought it was definitely THE END. She was rescued by firefighters, but her car was gone. The U. of Minnesota where I went to school has liberal arts on one side of the Mississippi and the social sciences on the other side. I was a double major in English and Pol. Sci., so I was going back and forth over a bridge on almost an hourly basis. It was treacherously cold in the winter.

Hah! I'm all caught up with you Lori. I have a girlfriend that goes all the way back to 2nd grade and I know how much fun it is to have a friend that goes back that far. I bet you had a great time.

Judy, we covered our annuals and brought in the hanging plants, so all of my work was not in vain. It's frustrating sometimes to live in northern temperate climates--too short of a growing season sometimes for my tomatoes.

Josie, I hope your shingles are no longer bothering you.

Yes, I remember MSP... I have an old friend who lives there..we go back to 1st grade.... she's the first one to contact me after the bridge collapsed because she was very sensitive to "falling bridge" issues from MSP. collapsing bridges have been a fact of life here in WA. I have been thru at least 4 bridges that collapsed or sank that caused much turmoil with places I needed or wanted to be.
Lynda, that must have been a life changing experience for your friend.... I can't imagine how awful that must have been.. we've had all kinds of recycled pics from other bridge disasters filling the papers and local news here. it turned out well for those directly involved.... they were very lucky.

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did a Spinerval indoor bike workout. I rode almost 2 hours.
Hoping for nice weather so I can get outside later this week.

Deb-it's been raining all day here too. Depressing weather :(
There are things I like about condo living, and things I don't like.
It is a little small and cramped for space, especially when we have
company. It seems more like living in an apartment than in your
own house. Not having to worry about lawn care and snow removal
is a plus.

FIL really should have sold his house and moved to assisted living
5 years ago, at least in my opinion. He fell last summer and was in the
hospital for 2 weeks and in a convalescent center for 6 weeks.
My DH and my SIL tried very hard then to get him to go to assisted living,
but he wouldn't do it.

Valerie-I do not like biking in traffic either. Especially with traffic here.
I prefer dedicated paths with no cars around.

Garance-I remember that bridge collapse very well, what a terrifying
experience that had to have been for your friend.

Hi to Lori and Josie!

Judy

Good evening ladies!

Did disc 20 legs tonight then took chester for a much needed walk. I used my weighted vest this time and wow what a difference. It is only 10lbs but i immediately noticed the extra weight. My legs were exhausted. Not sure how I was able to walk chester 2.5 miles after but I did.

Valerie I am with you about riding on busy streets. I have a tough time walking Chester with all the people driving and not paying attention to the road. I would never want to ride a bike under those conditions.

Garance...we are officially at the same workout with STS. I have not decided if I am going to try and make up my workouts or not. I am going on vacation week of july 4th so it was my plan to be done with STS right before I leave on July 2nd. if I do not make them up then i will be be off a week then will have to finish up the last week when I come back. Would rather not do that. I may do back and biceps tomorrow disc 21. Depends on how I feel tomorrow.

Watched Zero Dark 30 over the weekend. What an intense movie. I read the Navy Seal book No Easy Day and knew how intense it was going to be. Great movie.

Very nice here today and will ne in the high 80's by Saturday! Yeah!!!! Last week was terrible but this one will make up for it!!

Have a great night!!

Good morning,

I slept in until 5:00 ( woo hoo!) only waking up momentarily around 4:00 or so, but went right back to sleep. I think it's the rain...it rained all night, so calmly, it was mesmerizing. I guess the rain is moving around...we had a sunny weekend, and everyone else had rain, now it's raining here...I feel sorry for the people that took this week off for vacation.

Garance, hold off on purchasing that eye stuff...I like it, the texture is great, it has a lightening effect, but no real concealer that I can tell...it must be pretty new...I don't see it yet on makeup alley..

Valerie, you are lucky that you do not have to do any comute, from what I understand the traffic in your area is bad without a bridge collapse!

Judy, I feel for you and your DH, my cousin moved her Dad into an assisted living place, against his wishes...and he is miserable. He just will not try to even like it.

Lori, I LOL'd and had to read your post again...I thought..."did she take Chester on a 2.5 mile walk with her weighted vest on? that must have been some walk"...then I realized you said you had done the Leg workout....

Work, then agility class, followed by a stretching class....(yes, a stretching class for dogs...! )..

Take care..

Good Morning,

Deb-That is what I'm afraid will happen if FIL is forced out of his house. He is so determned to stay there, even though it is a 3 story house, and he can't safely go up and down stairs. We have modified it so that everything he needs is on the first floor, we put a bed in his living room. I bring his laundry home and do it here. We are trying do make it so he can stay at home, but I'm afraid if he falls again he may not be able to. Today DH has to take FIL into the cardiologist because he just told us he has been having more chest pain :(

Judy

Deb, congrats on getting in the extra hour of sleep. it rains here a lot, gentle steady rain and the sounds are pleasant and ..you are so right...makes for great sleep.

Yes, traffic here is pretty awful. lots of people crammed into narrow stretches of land. no room for more freeways. need to make do with what we have. Watching the news last night one channel had a segment with the owner of the bike shop (here we spend lots of money) talking about how the bridge collapse is affecting his business. his shop is on the detour route, but it's b/b traffic for miles, discourages potential buyers and even spontaneous buyers who don't want to get out of "line" to stop. weird to see very familiar place/ faces on the news. we did our part to boost his business!

I did supercuts last night. there is something wrong with the pacing on that one for me. I don't like the step thru/kick thru moves. don't like the windmill or deadlifts... seem out of place when they show up. it seems alternately too frantic and too slow and the music seems too obtrusive in some parts. I haven't done it in a while and had to stop the disk a bunch of times to re-familiarize myself with what I was doing next. seemed the pace slowed and then the sit up/push ups seem frantic. I need to repeat it ... maybe there's a premix that weeds out a few of those moves.

Lori we re-watched ZDT this weekend. I bought a copy, plan on watching a few more times. a movie I can enjoy several times. very intense. Jessica Chastain is fabulous. I don't remember if it got any awards, which I think it deserved.

maybe my attitude will change as I get older, but any alternative to avoid assisted living. totally depressing. a dog kennel for old people.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Jazzercise Burlesque (45 min.).

I wish it would stop raining for a few days. DH needs 3 days for haying, and is obsessing over the weather as he always does.

Lori, I took Max for a walk, too, last night and wondered if my legs were going to make it by the end. If I don't do an active recovery week between meso 2 and meso 3, I could just finish STS before vacation. Not sure what I will do, though, because I feel like I need a recovery week NOW. I liked ZDT too, but still think Argo was a better film and even more suspenseful. I'm looking forward to the new Star Trek film this weekend.

Judy, that's wonderful to be so supportive of your FIL. I think many people just feel uprooted if they are forced to move into assisted living. DH's parents are getting up there, and he had a number of things done to make their condo more user-friendly.

Deb, there's an article on insomnia in this month's MORE. I haven't read it yet, but I think it's something about splitting your sleep into 4 hour cycles and avoiding light after a certain time of day. Probably too eccentric and complicated. Who wants to avoid light? It was hard enough giving up caffeine after noon.

Valerie, if I remember correctly, ZDT won only one Oscar for sound mixing. I thought this was strange because a lot of the dialogue for me was hard to make out because of accents. I preferred the Arabic with subtitles.

Josie, where are you?

Hi Ladies,

I’m still alive ;) I was busy getting all my monthly report our yesterday. I started
Insanity again after the shingles, it still bothers me a little but it is manageable. I was
huffing and puffing with the workouts. It is amazing how fast your body gets out of
Shape!

It is official!! I gave notice yesterday. The witch came over to my office and congratulated me and said that I had been such a wonderful asset to the department and that I would be greatly missed. She was so phony that I wanted to slap her so bad, but I restrained myself ;)

I will be back later.

Josie
