Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/2

Lots of days to catch up on. Drives up and back from Marquette went very smoothly. I gave the boys a bit more than a half an hour start back and got home 7 minutes after them. A fair number of slow construction areas and I got stuck longer going over the Mackinac Bridge. Between them escorting high profile vehicles at 20 mph due to high winds and one lane for construction, meaning we all had to go slow it took much longer than usual. But wow! the color of the water on the southwest side of the bridge was amazing. Sadly, I couldn't get a pic of it.

Before I left on Wednesday I did P30 Yoga. Thursday morning I did the Live Travel Bands and Bodyweight workout. That one is very thorough, fast paced and quite a bit of cardio and core mixed in. No workout Friday morning (more on that in a minute). Saturday I did Total Body Bands and Glide. That one is also good. This morning I did Mobility and followed it with the abs from Leaner Legs and Abs.

Thursday after his exam, Derek and I grabbed smoothies and headed out west of Marquette to see a couple waterfalls. Original forecast was slight chance of rain and temps under 50, but we headed out and it was almost 60 and sunny. Got 90% of the way there and it starts raining. By the time we get to the falls, it’s a steady light rain. LOL It isn’t officially open yet, but we parked along the road and took the trail back. It’s a gorgeous falls and I want to go back on a nice day and do more hiking. Too many slippery rocks that day to get adventurous. Water running down a lot of uneven steps was enough. The second falls was also closed and that one was at a scenic spot on the main road and no place to park, so we skipped it. But we got to spend almost four hours in the car chatting.

So Thursday night I got ready for bed before 9, and was just planning to read for awhile, get up at 6 and workout. Then a bit after that I got a weird text with Nick saying he might have to come spend the night with me. Last I knew he was going to finish packing/cleaning and hang out with his girlfriend for awhile. I checked his location and could see that he was in the building where their laundry/mail was at. After that I just occasionally got cryptic messages, the gist of which was he had roommate issues and would let me know if he needed to come stay at the hotel. Finally near 11 he said he was on his way over. Turns out that his roommate who he was never friends with, but had had no trouble with all year, started sending him threatening texts and then in person. He didn’t feel safe and went to his RA who then also got the guy over him involved. They have copies of the texts. They made the kid go sit in his car while Nick got his stuff out and he came and spent the night with me. I don’t know all the details, but Nick seems to consider it all just weird and over and done with now. My room had a couch, so he slept there. Needless to say by the time we turned out the lights it was midnight, I didn’t fall asleep for more than another hour, and no workout happened Friday morning.

Yesterday was Nick's graduation. We sat in the basement and watched it. They went through and read off all 900+ names and degrees. So he's officially done and tomorrow they both start working at the zoo again. Mid-August Nick moves to Texas and he's already got a studio apartment leased that's close to campus.

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning Energy practice for 18 minutes. That‘s always a good way to start my day. My youngest daughter is on her way here and should arrive in about 2 hours. I’m so excited to see her. She will stay for three weeks again and work from here. She drove part way yesterday and spent the night with our middle daughter. That breaks the drive up so that it isn’t too bad.

Valerie, I only recently started using sumac. Last year I discovered a small company called Burlap and Barrel and they have wonderful spices. Sumac should have a citrus flavor and is good anywhere that you would use lemon. It is mostly a finishing spice and is good on vegetables, salads, hummus, even scrambled eggs. I like it.

Cathy, you managed to do some nice workouts while you were away. That’s a crazy situation with your son’s roommate. It’s a good thing that he doesn’t have to see him again.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Deb.

Back from our ride. somehow my watch timer got bumped and didn't record but it was our usual route, 25 miles about 2 hrs 15 min. nice and quiet this morning, tho it got kind of windy. as usual , in your face no matter what direction you go. lots of flowering trees and bushes, dogwoods are blooming along with rhodies and azaleas and a million other things.

cathy that is odd behavior not easily explained. drugs? off drugs? off regular meds? best to play it cautiously and not ignore. hopefully your son wont cross paths with him again and the guy will get whatever help he needs.

carolyn, I was expecting citrus flavor but I cant taste anything, I'll try adding more of the spice . the salad had garbanzos, feta and artichokes so all I skipped were the chokes. just no particular flavor.

I'm sorry I haven't been posting much. Work has been busy and I haven't been spending as much time online. Friday I did RWH Chest & Triceps and yesterday I did a 30 minute Peloton ride.

Valerie-Great job with the ride! I can't wait until Chris and I can get outside and get some biking in.

Cathy-I agree with Valerie, that is odd behavior. I hope your son won't ever have to deal with that person again.

Carolyn-That's great that your daughter is coming to visit.

Hi to Deb & Diane Sue

This morning I did LIS Athletic Training for 57 minutes with 297 calories burned. My average heart rate was 119 and maximum heart rate was 149.

Judy, great job with RWH Chest and Triceps and your 30 minute Peloton ride. I understand not getting online when you are working so much.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

I'm off work today and spent the morning getting caught up on some things at home. This afternoon I did Live #344, Upper Body Pump. I really liked this one and plan on doing it again. There are 4 rounds, Biceps & Back, Shoulders, Chest & Triceps, and Core. It’s a higher rep, low to moderate weight workout. I liked the core work and I didn’t have to modify any of the moves.

Carolyn-Great job with Athletic Training. That is a good one!

Hope everyone has a good week

I just saw on Facebook that Cathe suffered a medical emergency with her eye over the weekend and had to have emergency surgery! She will be out of commission for a while as she recovers. The information is also in the Cathe Live thread.

I just saw that too Carolyn. I'm so glad that Cathe was able to get this taken care of so quickly. I'm praying she has a quick and full recovery.

That is scary!! No matter how well you take care of yourself …. Things can go wrong. Hoping for a complete recovery ASAP.

ETA did x train chest back, biceps premix and x train abs.

That was a scary thing Cathe had happen and so smart of her to not waste time getting it checked out. Hopefully her recovery goes smoothly. It's going to be rough for her to have to limit her activity so much.

This morning I started the Rock Bottoms rotation I put together with My IMAX workout and 200 walking lunges. I was supposed to do 300 but between the fact that I couldn't do them outside because it was wet and what my lower body felt like after 200, I opted to pass on the last 100 and I'll see how sore I am tomorrow.

Nick's roommate has another year at NMU, and I would imagine he's going to have to toe the line to be able to do that. They don't live near each other and Nick's heading to Texas in August. He also hasn't heard any more from him. I have to think it was potentially a mental health issue driving it. Nick said the only drug the kid used was pot and it's legal here and he's old enough to buy, so doubtful he got a bad batch like you can if you buy off the street. Boys are both at their first day of work today.

Carolyn great job on the yoga and Athletic Training! I haven't done that one in ages. I'm sure you are thrilled to have your daughter their for a few weeks.

Valerie great that you got a long ride in yesterday! That kind of wind that seems to always be in your face definitely makes things more challenging.

Judy great job on the RWH, Peloton and Live Upper Body workouts! I haven't tried that Live one yet and it sounds like a good one.

Today I did Step Sync, combos 1 and 2, which was 33 minutes and 216 calories burned. My average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 142. Then I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Evening Practice for 29 minutes and 36 calories burned.

Have a great day everyone.

Back from a xc ski. a long drive and then 3hrs 30 min skiing up and then back down. a lovely north-westy type of day with clouds and blue ski and gorgeous scenery. the north cascades are stunning. bear tracks and bobcat tracks but not very fresh.
had dinner with friends last night, the first time in over a year we have eaten at someone else's house. A good evening. she has a lovely gorgeous garden and much is in bloom right now and fascinating foliage on so many plants. it looks like a magazine pic.

I remember Athletic training and it was a good one. haven't done it in ages. I have gone to doing most of my cardio work outdoors like today. I'm pooped!
I have slacked on doing yoga too, thought I could get DH to do some but he disappears whenever I try to set up a session. he is in great shape but not flexible.

This morning I did P30 Upper Body and for a short workout that one is tough. Once in awhile, I actually used the same weights. Then I did the Rock Bottoms Bonus Butt Work. And that was rough. Ends with the stability ball portion of PLB and when I got to the stretch and moved into the first one it was that was not comfortable at all. Hopefully, I can walk tomorrow as I’m shopping.

The latest roommate drama is with Derek’s. He got an email from the RD today written to both of them looking for the person who had the left side of the room, as there are burn marks. writing has always been one of his major strengths and I must say I was very impressed with the email he wrote. He has pics that should be proof of what side was his, so hopefully the roommate will step up.

Carolyn great job with Step Sync and yoga!

Valerie Wow! That was a long day skiing! Sounds like an amazing place to see. That’s wonderful that you got to go have dinner with your friends!

This morning I did Perfect Pump Lower Body for 32 minutes and 125 calories burned. Average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate was 163. This is such a good lower body workout. It always amazes me how well worked my lower body feels after doing it.

Valerie, great job with that long ski outing. Dinner with friends must have been wonderful. Things are slowly getting back to a more normal feeling.

Cathy, nice job with P30 Upper Body. That one is good too. I think that Perfect Pump has become one of my favorites—so much accomplished in a short period of time. I hope Derek’s email put an end to the most recent roommate drama.

Hello to Judy, Diane Sue, and Deb.

We did a road ride this morning, 15 miles, an hour and 15 min. not feeling like a 25 miler today, legs are feeling worn out. need to do some shopping today and get more ground cover plants before selection is all gone.

I live here because DH and I fell in love with the North Cascades. it has gotten a lot more crowded here since the '80s. used to be a quiet and lonely place but not anymore. we dont hike or backpack as much as we used to, much due to the number of people out there now. seems to have gotten that way everywhere., very hard to find seclusion

I feel that way about perfect pump upper. a lot done in a short time. I'm going back to focus on X train . I always liked those workouts but so far have done shorter pre mixes.

I did Stretch Max with the band before I went shopping yesterday. Legs are a bit sore overall, but inner thighs took the biggest hit. Ouch! Derek's roommate took responsibility and will be paying for the damage. I would think that next year they would keep a bit closer eye on his room situation.

Carolyn great job with the Perfect Pump Lower Body! That is also a really good one!

Valerie great that you got a nice ride in today! The UP has places like that, that are WAY more crowded than they used to be. Too many people discovered how beautiful it is up there.

Today I did Turbobarre and a 20 minute Peloton ride. I was doing Turbobarre regularly 4 or 5 years ago then I got out of the habit. It really sneaks up on you and is very effective. I will be feeling it tomorrow.

Carolyn-Great job with Perfect Pump Lower Body. I need to try that one again soon.

Cathy-Nice job with P30 Upper Body and the Rock Bottoms Bonus Butt Work. That is crazy about Derek's roommate.

Valerie-Great job with the skiing and bike ride! Xtrain is a good series to focus on, with so much variety and no dread factor.

It has been busy. Monday I did Raw Hi/Lo Step 42 minutes, heart rate 130/170, 218 calories, 3,798 steps. That is all I had time for. Yesterday I did CDorner Lower Body Workout (Butt and Thigh Tabata) 43 minutes, 137 calories, heart rate 103/129. Keeping up with the extra zoom classes and lessons has been a challenge. Plus my grandson did not have his math workbook here so I had to draw up his work sheets each day and watch the teacher's youtube so I could see the page. Then we did not have his reading book, so it was a struggle to get the answers for the turn in work of comprehension. I finally found the book in audio yesterday. He was in class today, but I needed to take his sister to the middle school for testing and pick her up so no time for a workout. Hopefully tomorrow I can get something in.

Cathy, I hate getting stuck traveling in construction. That is when I usually need a bathroom break :p. I was slowed down this morning taking my granddaughter to school because I did not know there was road construction on the way and I could not make a left or right turn. I had to drive to the end of it and come back. Needless to say I made sure I went another way when I went back to get her. Not like freeway construction though. Glad your son's roommate took responsibility. The falls sounds like something beautiful to look at even if there was a shower. I was thinking the new band workouts that will be coming out may be useful when I go on vacation in August. Funny, at this point we do not know where we are going. Maybe Florida to visit my younger brother. Wish he was still in Nebraska though. Maybe your son's roommate was having some kind of psychosis from drugs or something. A lot of college students go amphetamine drugs to help them with school. Just a thought. Good he got away from him.

Valerie, that is nice that you got to get out and have dinner with friends. Nice that you got in cx skiing yesterday and then a ride in today.

Judy, I understand being busy. Nice work with the Cathe Live weight work.

Carolyn, nice work on Perfect Pump today.
