Happy Easter!

"Spa Day" with the girls was very nice yesterday. The gang will be here around 10:30.

Hope everyone has a great day and rest of the weekend.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did High Reps (65:00).

Deb, your spa day sounds very luxurious. Good luck with your Easter brunch!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Hi Ladies,

Happy Easter to all of you. I'm heading to San Diego so that my DS can see the kids and an the can see their brothers and half sister.

I will be back on Tuesday evening.

Josie

Good evening ladies!

Yesterday I ended up doing Cathe Live Push and Pull. I usually always substitute dumbbells for barbell but for this one I didn't substitute. Really enjoyed it and will certainly do it again. It was just about 42 minutes and I followed up with the heavy bag bonus from MMA workout. Today I did her live metabolic conditioning and then took chester for a nice 2 mile walk.

No matter how much I worked out yesterday and today it did not undo the amount of calories I consumed at brunch today. Omg I ate so much. Need to be really be good the next few days!

Hope everyone had a great Easter!

Good morning,

The brunch went well, very relaxing and the kids had fun.

Lynda, did you have dinner at your house yesterday? Are your in-laws still in Florida?

Josie, have fun with the Peanuts!

Lori, Push -Pull is a great workout, I forget that I have it. I wonder how Cathe remembers these old workouts in order to do them live? I hear you on over eating at brunch. It's the candy that is killing me.

Hi to Judy & Valerie,

I have a funeral to go to this morning, my friend's MIL passed away. Not much else going on here.

Take care,

Brunch must be popular..... I confess I have never gone out for brunch. I'm not fond of a heavy meal in the morning so maybe I've never sought it out.
I'm my usual cranky self about holiday food.. I hate marshmallow in every form, don't like hard boiled eggs or milk chocolate. so I slid by without a big calorie overload. I did drink an entire starbucks double shot to help get me up the mountain.

we went on a real hike yesterday and it about killed me. about 8 miles RT, 6.5 hours. it's one we usually do in june but without much snow it was accessible and we did it. OMG it was hard. it's a very steep primitive "trail" and it suffered water damage and blow downs since last year making it even harder. it's always rooty and muddy only this time there was a patchy layer of snow over the mud after we got up higher. sometimes I don't understand WHY we do the things we do. after we've done some hiking and toughened up this would not be as bad, but as a first hike it was a stupid choice. two huge trees had fallen creating big obstacles to get over. Actually most of the route is barely even a trail. I was exhausted by the time we got back to the car. we've been doing a lot of riding but there is not a big fitness connection between hiking and riding. I think my legs will be not as sore as if I'd been doing nothing though I'm not as sore this morning as I expected. I'm usually worst on the 2nd day so we'll see tomorrow.

sounds like everyone ( Judy you need to check in) had a good holiday.

I think I will take the day off today to recover.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did both low impact Hiit workouts together (50:08).

Deb, we had our Easter ham, but it was just the two of us. FIL and MIL are still in Florida and our sons don't come home for Easter.

I definitely need something to read or see to cheer me up. A Little Life is a really fine novel, but I found myself frequently sobbing because of so many sad events. Then I went to see Still Alice--the Julianne Moore film she won an Oscar for, playing a vibrant intellectual who descends slowly into Alzheimer's. It was a moving performance, but also very sad. So I need something to dispel my dark mood. I have a feeling the upcoming colonoscopy is also weighing down on me.

Lori, maybe you should have whipped out your little 21 day containers at brunch and filled each one and ate just that. (Just kidding!). My problem with brunches is that they offer a lot of variety and then I always want to try everything, so it's best to just avoid brunch altogether. I can't remember the last time I did brunch--maybe New Year's Day 3 or 4 years ago at a friend's.

Valerie, I don't understand WHY you do some of those hikes either, but then WHY do I read sad novels and go to sad films?? Too many hours roughing it does not appeal to me. I hope you saw some birds or wild life to make it worthwhile.

Josie, enjoy your DS and the peanuts!

Hi to Judy!

Good evening ladies!

No workout today. Needed a rest day from all the weights over the weekend. I did take Chester for about a 2 mile walk tonight.

Lynda...that was hysterical!!! Very funny! Sounds like your dinner was lovely just the two of you. Bob and I did that for Thanksgiving. Was just the two of us and we enjoyed it. We love going out for Brunch. Fortunately, we do not do it very often.

Valerie...when my DS and his GF hiked last summer we went about 3 hours at a time. I really enjoyed them and could see myself going longer. Although, I do not have the obstacles you encounter. You two are amazing!

Deb...I love the live versions of her dvd's. They are completely different and fresh. Just the concept is the same if this makes any sense. I find myself choosing a live workout more than her dvd's. In her Cathe Live forum I requested a possible Live Travel Fit. Would love one of these! Glad your brunch went well.

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Good morning,

A little like "spring like" yesterday, sunny and high 50's. Not sure if it's going to stay or back to winter again.

Valerie, that hike sounded scary, and almost dangerous! I like the double shot drink that you had though, Not a fan of marshmellow stuff either, but the Peeps are great for decorating! I use them in my door wreath, and on the table at each plate setting. No one in my family likes them. The only people that I know that eat them, wait until they are stale then eat them. Yuk. I also have not gone out for an actual brunch meal in probably 20+ years or more. At least the one I have is limited to a few dishes, it's mostly because of the time I have it, and that they are breakfast food, that makes me call it Brunch.

Lynda, I am trying to think of a good book, or Prime show for you...will keep thinking. I know you were not a fan of the Jon Katz series of his farm etc, but Rose in a Storm is not about him, it's a novel. I really thought it was a great book, especially for anyone that likes dogs.

Lori, I am tempted to try the Live workouts, but feel I have so many already, and also, would need to do some tech stuff to play them. I would want them on a bigger screen than the iPad, and my TV in the workout area would need to have new cables etc to hook it up to the iPad.

P. S Did anyone ever watch " Suits" ?

Hi to Judy & Josie,

Workout, then I better get back to the quilt.

Take care,

I'm happy to report that my legs are better today. I retract every word I said about riding not helping. it's focus is different but without it I ( we) would be miserably sore. we've done the close by hikes so many times they aren't exciting anymore. the scenery on this last one is stunning and often we see mountain goats there, but didn't this time. we love to hike in new areas when traveling. we've vowed to hike once a week regardless of how much we ride just to keep the hiking muscles in shape. my feet and ankles took a beating because they don't get much work when riding.
Last step in the bathroom project tomorrow. we found a service to refinish the tub surface from pinkish beige to off white. outsiders don't see the "pink" tones as much as we do so we will get it done.
we're watching season 5 of Downton. I'll miss this one! then I have a string of "awarded" movies. I have "Still Alice" on my queue. I love julianne Moore. the other movie I'm not familiar with. I always obsess before medical procedures like a colonoscopy. I hate the prep and drinking that awful solution. they knock me out for the procedure itself because I'm very hard to "scope" and it hurts. DH scoots right thru it . but he now has to do it yearly so I guess that's somehow fair.
we've been trying to encourage cousin and his wife to hike with us but they are so deconditioned I'm not sure it will happen. sometimes hiking is absolutely magical, other times just a lot of work. you keep trying for the "magic" times. we've tried to get them to ride but cousins wife seems unable to. she even took bike riding lessons and was the only class failure. I've ridden "something" since I was a tiny kid and can't understand why it's so difficult for her. she can't seem to balance??? and I've done it for so long I don't know how to help her. she/s in her early 40's so not a kid but not a senior citizen either.

Deb, brunch always sounds good but somehow we don't do it. It's probably a good way to entertain...

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did ch, sh, tris with core 1 premix (47:38).

Deb, I never read the Jon Katz books. I will take another look at Amazon. I'm reading The Nightingale at the moment and just don't find it as compelling as it was touted to be at Amazon. I really did love A Little Life--it will probably win the Pulitzer--but it was emotionally wrenching, probably a sign of its greatness. I was just hoping for a better ending. It sounds like your brunch went well--an occasion to get together with family.

Lori, I am so looking forward to some spring walks with Max. It's still too muddy around here to enjoy. My gardens have emerged from the snow cover and look like hell--something else to put on my list of clean-up and chuck chores.

Valerie, I guess I am obsessing a bit on the colonoscopy. I'm afraid I will throw up the prep stuff. This time it's some kind of cough syrup tasting stuff, diluted with 16 oz of water and I drink it with another 32 oz over the following hour. You do this twice--late afternoon and then at 4 A.M. I probably won't sleep. Glad you didn't suffer from such a rigorous hike. I'm sure you will admire Moore in the film. My problem is that earlier this year I read We Are Not Ourselves, another fiction about early onset Alzheimer's. Seems to be an ongoing theme these days--a modern version of tragedy. Instead of a hero's tragic mistake, an identity-robbing illness. Ironically, the title is a quote from King Lear, who does indeed make a tragic mistake and suffers madness as a result.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Good evening ladies!

At lunch we did Barre and tonight I did Cathe Live Cardio Core.

I have finally decided to have my shoulder checked out. Started bothering me after my weight workouts from this weekend. Has been fine for a while but this is the routine...fine, flare up, fine, flare up. Decided it will never just stay fine. My appt is tomorrow at 3pm.

Valerie...glad your legs are better! The first time I did P90X a few years back I did it with my son and a coworker. They both were always so sore but I was not. My muscle were tired but not like they were feeling. I swear it was because of all the walking I did with Chester. Felt this really helped with keeping the tightness out. So I understand what you mean about all the riding helping.

Lynda...when do you go for your colonoscopy? I know it is soon. I have only had one but I know it was not that syrup you mentioned. Can you get something else for prep? I am re-reading book four of Game of Thrones. Wanted to before this season starts up. Been so long since I read it. I have a coworker that has HBO Go on her Ipad so we are going to connect to the large TV one day a week after work to watch it. Some wine and snacks will be involved and we'll alternate who brings what each week. Will be fun.

Deb...as you know I love Cathe Live. I love my dvd's but there is something about the Live classes that draws me to them. I like seeing everyday people working out and some really inspire me. Cathe is so fresh and natural too. Yes I agree the Ipad is way too small! Although on vacation I do stream and watch from my Ipad. To hook to your TV you would need an HDMI cable - assuming your TV has one. The cables are not expensive at all. What is expensive is the adapter cable your need for your IPad. That is about 40 dollars I think.

Hi to Judy and Josie.

Hi Everyone,

We had a nice, quiet Easter at home. Yesterday I did a longer indoor ride, and it went pretty well. Today I did KCM Muscle Endurance and went to PT. One of the physical therapists suggested that I see a sports medicine doctor that they work with and I made an appointment for next week. She seemed to think he might be able to help me more than my regular doctor with the hip and sciatica issues that I have and I'm sure she's right. I probably should have done that along time ago.

Deb-I'm sorry about your friend's MIL :(

Lori-I watched the Cathe Live Push/Pull and it looks like a good one. I will try it soon. I'm sorry about your shoulder, good idea to get it checked out.

Valerie- nice hike! That sounds very challenging! I hope I can do a hike like that this summer. If we go back to Colorado Springs in June or July we are hoping to get some longer hiking or biking in.

Lynda-I think I know what you mean. I tend to be drawn to sad books and programs and usually end up in tears. I find myself looking for things to cheer myself up, but then I keep going back to the sad things..
About the colonoscopy, I only had one and I had been worried about the prep too. I used the Miralax prep with PowerAde and it didn't bother me at all. My doctor told me I could wait 10 years for the next, but after reading your post about what your doctor said and thinking about it, I'm going to ask for another one in 5 years. DH is due for another one this year too.

Josie-Hope you had a great time in San Diego!

Judy

I'm not familiar with the colonoscopy prep you are talking about Lynda. Like Judy, I had the Miralax/PowerAde prep for my first but it didn't work for me. it's what DH has used 3 x now and it's fine for him. my next one 5 yrs later was the Golytely prep ( the gallon of liquid) which did work but was fairly awful. a massive volume of liquid that smelled terrible. the doctors around here give you a low fiber diet beforehand too that I "semi followed" the first time but it caused big problems. the second time I followed my normal massive fiber diet until the clear liquid day, and it worked out better for everyone. I always imagine all kinds of horrific and completely ridiculously scenarios that get worse as the procedure gets closer.
I did 20 on the treadmill, an arm therapy session, and Core 1. running with my arm swinging feels a little uncomfortable, so I didn't go for the 30 min I'd planned but it seems fine now. we were planning on riding but DH got started on a yard project and wanted to finish it and so I changed back to garden clothes and we finished building our blueberry fortress to fence out birds/ squirrels so I can harvest more than 10-15 blueberries this year.

Lori I hope your arm issue is nothing. maybe it will reassure you to have someone look and maybe do some imaging, but it seems unlikely to be anything serious if it isn't consistently painful. I have been wrestling with this tendonitis for almost 5 months now. it doesn't bother me most of the day anymore but I'm still afraid to do any serious weight.

Judy, DH and I resolved to hike once a week... hiking regularly is the only thing that keeps me Ok with difficult hikes. most hikes we do are not as challenging as this one was, and this one would have been OK if we'd been hardened up with a few easier ones beforehand.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM Weights. She has a couple of new workouts, that are almost ready for shipping. She is amazing, when she films a workout, you get the DVD about 4 weeks later. I ordered only one, which has a pyramid style workout. I always liked Cathe's and wanted to see how someone else does it.

Valerie, all that riding should keep your legs in shape! I guess next season is the last one for Downton. :( I will miss it. I have never heard of anyone having a colonoscopy without being knocked out. There is a lesser procedure, (a sigmoidoscopy?) that John had once that they didn't put him out for, but that is not as complete an exam. LOL about your blueberry fortress!

Lynda, as everyone always says, regarding a colonoscopy, the prep is far worse than the procedure. When is yours? I think you would like Rose in a Storm. It's about the farmer's relationship with his farm dog, and how it grows.

Lori, good luck with the shoulder appointment. I hope they have some good recommendations, but it will probably be to not do any weight work for a while. That plan to watch the show with co-workers sounds like fun. Maybe when I don't have to pay a huge healthcare bill each month, I will look into signing up for the live workouts. John goes on Medicare in October.

Josie, hope your time with the Peanuts was fun.

Judy, I think that was a good recommendation, going to a sports PT person may give you more ways to relieve the pain. Any chance they will recommend an MRI after your PT?

Optician appointment today....somehow I thought it was yesterday, and got a reminder call for today. I'm glad they called or I would have shown up a day early. That is what retirement does, you have no idea what day it is.

Take care,

Too funny Deb... I seldom know what number date it is. For outdoor things, we go mon thru fri to avoid weekend crowds. funny how priorities change.
My colon is convoluted, the word is "tortuous". scoping is a harder process. they give me way more anesthetic or I feel serious discomfort, use a pediatric scope. it's harder for the doc and harder for me. Just born this way but I don't want to do this more often than needed for screening. Flexible sigmoidoscopy doesn't cover as much of the colon as a regular colonoscopy, so if you have to go thru the prep, might as well get the more complete screening.
DH is awake and functional very soon after the procedure is done. me, no. but they're not set up to have people sleep there for hours. Iget been wheelchaired out to the car and then sleep half the day. I think they're glad to see me go! I'm not someone who is up for for "breakfast out" after.

we finished season 5 of Downton last night. Loved it! too bad there's only one more season. Now on to movies. not sure what series we'll try next.
the guy is here to do the tub refinishing. sounds like it might take longer than we thought so might not get to ride today. we'll see how it goes.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did KCM's Cardio Quick Fix, both workouts (44:39).

Valerie, this is called Suprep Bowel Prep Kit. I couldn't do the Golytely--it made me nauseous and I just started throwing up and had to move to enemas. Last time was the best, with pills and then a lot of water, but my doctor says this is not recommended for over-65, so it might not be covered by my insurance and it's quite expensive. I sniffed the stuff last night and it does smell like cherry cough syrup--not so bad, so I will be okay (she said with determination). I take it this afternoon and again at 4 in the morning, 12 hours later. Tomorrow morning I go in--early.

Lori, if the pain keeps returning, it does seem like a good idea to check it out. If you had bought the big EW issue on GOT, you would not have to re-read the book. It did a whole reprise of the past seasons and a bit of a preview of this one, reminding me of what happens in the books. It also sounds like some of Martin's story lines are being dropped and there are also some changes in his work. I'm really looking forward to it, as well as the return of Veep with Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Deb, I sort of associate fiction about dogs with being a little girl. I read all of Albert Payson Terhune's books about collies, another series about Irish setters that I loved, and the great tearjerker, Call of the Wild. I think I might re-read The World According to Garp because I remember laughing a lot, even on the subway, with that one. Either that or the distraction of a good mystery.

Judy, that sounds like a great idea because if I remember correctly, it's only some activities that cause you trouble.

Ugly weather here, but it is supposed to be sunny and much warmer this weekend.

Lynda ... best of luck with the fun & exciting process! I got thru the Golytely by biting into a lime before drinking to get my nose "busy" with the lime scent, then holding my nose, drinking fast.

Good evening ladies.

No workout today. Went to the doctors and as I suspected tendonitis in both shoulders. Dr. did xrays and shoulder joints looked good so happy about this. Upper long head of each bicep has the tendonitis. Received a cortisone shot in each shoulder. Hoping this helps. My right one is the one that is most painful but the left did have some pain just not as intense so opted for a shot in each. Why not?!!!!

I need to lay off weights for a few days which of course I will do. She said I can still do lower body as long as it has no upper. So the next couple of days the plan is lower body barre at lunch and that is it.

Lynda. .. I have the digital entertainment magazine and completely forgot that I did! Silly me. Will read it tonight. Good luck tomorrow. Will be thinking of you.

Deb...I almost bought the new KCM workouts but decided at last minute against it. I agree she is amazing with how she ships so soon after preorder. Can't wait to hear your review. You girls crack me up with not knowing the date! Someday I will be where you are all at!!!!!

Valerie..you inspired me to finally get my shoulder looked at. Hoping things will improve. This morning it killed to put my jacket on so it was good I went today. Dr. did say that with this type of injury there could be an issue with my rotator cuff that may surface. Nothing she sees now but could be an underlying issue. Hoping there is no issue!!!!!

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Lori I am quite sure I did a long series of knee push ups when I overdid in Nov. I did not have a fall, or jerking motion, heavy weight or anything that could have caused a tear. I can do planks carefully now, as in the core 1 workout there is a plank and you step your feet forward 10 or 20 times but I am carefully not doing anything that resembles a pushup except for wall ones with my arms wide. even raising my rt arm vertically with my arm close to midline front bothers me...a clicky sensation. so I do T's and Y's but not I's. or press downs but not with my arm close to the midline. Be smart and back off because I am proof that working thru discomfort gets you nowhere. I got over confidant after the injection and went on the blasted kayak trip and irritated it, and I was back to square 1. putting jackets and bras on still is a bit uncomfortable, othertimes not. .

we got our tub refinished today. a horrible process, so glad we didn't try a do -it- yourself method. the pink is gone.YAY!!! he has to return to buff out a small flaw in 2 weeks. a bug flew in and landed and getting it out of the finish left a flaw.
