Traildoggie

Cathlete
good morning. wasn't sure if I would have time to start this so set it up sat night. still here though. we are going to the park this morning to try a mt bike route we've never done before. cycling is very limited in the park. some roads are open to cycling before they open to vehicles. we will see if its a decent route.

we plan to spend a lot of time here this year if possible especially early in the season. unfortunately california and other parts of the west have not had a wet winter and this is a harbinger of fires to come. I hope not, but recent history says otherwise.

I always had some trouble with metal on jewelry. it's not the gold or silver, but whatever the alloy is. I've been told its nickel. my skin used to turn gray/black under my rings, watch band, even my neckline if I wore a necklace. it didn't itch but looked odd. the second earring hole pushed it over the top. I tried coating the backs of earrings, posts, wires with a special coating painted on but it didn't help. the itching and redness and swelling would last for days after wearing earrings for an hour. i loved my earrings but that was it, I never could tolerate it anymore. even had trouble with the metal snap on jeans. once that sensitivity gets activated I'm very touchy. it settles down if I limit exposure. so stainless steel/velcro watch bands. rings off at night. no other jewelry.
I don't like piercings most especially nose rings, tongue studs and other butt-ugly weirdness. Im ok with tats mostly but a lot of people will regret choices when they go out of style, as they surely will. DH had a small home made tat, just initials on his forearm that he had removed. it was expensive and was done surgically. the really extensive tats look like something beyond easy removal.

Good afternoon. Today is my rest day but I’ve been very busy with other things. Tomorrow is my husband’s birthday so I just finished making him a cake. I don’t really want cake around, but it seemed selfish for me to skip it. He really looks forward to it! I can always put it in the freezer in small servings. Have a great afternoon everyone.

Today I did KCM CardioFit workout 1 and Muscle Meltdown Triceps.

Carolyn-Happy Birthday to your husband!

Diane Sue-Great job with your workouts! You are making such good progress after your surgery. Kelly's new workouts are really good. I think you will like the DVD.

Valerie-Great job with the x train biceps & triceps premix and ab workout.

Hi to Cathy

This morning I did Cathe's latest live Kick, Jump and Jab. It was okay. I do really want a tank like her shirt though. It says Stay Strong and Cathe On. A few weeks ago one of the class had one, so I wonder if they sell them at the gym.

Valerie I hope your ride went well today!

Carolyn happy birthday to your husband. I've reached a point with no sugar where I'm not even interested in it, but I used to make things for other people that I don't like. LOL

Judy great job with KCM Cardio Fit and MM Triceps! Looks like we're going to have a wet week here.

No workout today. I spent time outside in the planters. I had a couple of plants that needed trimmed down. One looks like grass but gets tall with fluffy fronds. I think next season I should cut it back before it starts coming back as I had a hard time cutting around the new portion. Not sure what it is called.
It is raining here right now, so glad I got outside while the sun was still out. It is supposed to rain tomorrow as well. I have PT again tomorrow.

Valerie, I am surprised I have not had issues with jewelry. My daughter and grandchildren cannot have just any earrings. I love earrings and jewelry. Odd though, I sure have sensitivities to some clothing. I don't know what it is. I wore a dress today by Betty Johnson and as soon as I put it on my back was all itchy. I wore it to church and it was off as soon as I got home. I have a two shirts, same but different colors, and one of them itches me all around the caller. I hand sewed a felt strip along the seam line and now I can wear it.

Carolyn, my husband would be so disappointed if I did not make his usual German Chocolate Cake. I am sure your husband really appreciates it.

Cathy, maybe the t-shirt was one from a Cathe Road Trip. I don't think they sell the shirts here. I have done the same thing with desserts. Make something I am not in love with. But, then again, last time I chose to make cheesecake for family. I knew my husband and I love it, and this way I got some while sharing with everyone else. It is safer than opening the refrigerator and having a cheesecake sitting there.

Judy, nice workout today. If I remember right the workout # 1 is kickboxing? Muscle Meltdowns are great for getting some more weight work in.

I was really ticked off when I found I could not wear any earrings!. I had some lovely pairs and I always loved the look. it was hard to walk away but the itching, swelling and redness gave me no choice. I can wear rings and watches but I stick to stainless, take rings off at night. that is a big enough break to allow me to keep wearing those. when I started getting itching from snaps on jeans I got really worried but that settled down. wool is an issue for me. merino wool has gotten popular in outdoor clothing with advantages over synthetics. I cant wear it. I bought a base layer shirt and peeled out of it in <5 minutes. returned it. synthetics only for me. intolerable itching.
fun ride yesterday. 2.5 hours. a few park roads allow bikes early in the season. mt bikes. it was too muddy( and icy) to do the whole thing. this one stays open to mt bikes all year and cars one way. the mud and gravel clumps onto the tires. they got so big I could barely get wheels to turn. we'd stop and knock it off but it would come right back. huge number of animal tracks in the mud. it was a steep road so going up was the hard "sticky mud" part. going down the mud flew off, but re-stuck instantly. not a big mileage day but tough. we checked out the other riding spot. way too popular with way more people than I want to ride with.

I just had a birthday but didn't make dessert. usually I do. I make DH whatever he wants too. freeze the leftovers so its not looking me in the face every day. I cut recipes in half or share with neighbors. Im fine with a special treat a few times a year but not every week. I was having food dreams last night. read a story about a new bakery with fresh almond croissants and could not get it out of my mind.

This morning I did P30 Low Impact HiiT and the Extended Stretch. That was 37 minutes and 246 calories burned. Average heart rate was 127 and maximum heart rate was 156.

Judy, nice job with Cardio Fit and Muscle Meltdown Triceps

Cathy, great job with Live Kick, Jump, and Jab. You should Cathe about purchasing the shirt. It might be available at her gym unless it was only for the Road Trip.

Diane Sue, my husband would be very sad if I had not made him a birthday cake. I’m making steak and potatoes for dinner, his other favorite thing. Not something that we have often.

Valerie, nice job with the ride yesterday. So far it’s only earrings that bother me. That’s funny about your food dreams.

Have a great day everyone.

we did a hike today after struggling to decide if the weather was too marginal. it was on a trail just a little higher than the mt bike trail we just did. we could look down and see the end of the trail we didnt get all the way to. we will do that one again for sure. the hike was ok, lots of good tracks on it, and 2.5 hours of cardio. still a little early in the season, got into some snow and icy patches. weather deteriorated so we made a wise choice in doing a short one we could turn around on when it got too windy and started to snow horizontally.

carolyn that is IMO 100% the right thing to do. pamper and indulge your DH for his birthday. can't do that every day but a special dinner is what makes it a celebration day. Ive been exercising a lot every day so I think food dreams come when I'm running a calorie deficit. I start thinking about the things I like but cant get right now. like croissants!

Today I did PT and when I came home I did Perfect 30 Flow Yoga Strength and Flexibility, 30 minutes, 53 calories, heart rate 81/96. The PT had me use a Body Blade putting my arm straight out and pulse/ bounce it for 3 sets of 30 seconds. That was tough. He says it works a lot of tiny ligaments and stuff. He has been working on some of those endurance points. I had to go look at the Body Blade on Amazon today. Interesting workout tool.

Valerie, I cannot tolerate even the tiniest bit of wool. I had a couple of Victoria Secret sweaters that were wool nylon mix and even with a shirt underneath, I was itching and red. Thinking of croissants, daughter brought over homemade soup and croissants when I was recovering. I ate one and shoved them in the freezer to try to forget them. One night when I was up late, I caught sight of them and put them in the oven and ate the last two. They were huge. I enjoyed every bite but felt yucky afterward.

Carolyn, we have steak around a lot, but I just purchase for my husband. I don't mind beef, but I just generally buy 1 good grass-fed steak and I splurge on good salmon for myself. I made a pot of stew today for my husband as he does not like carrots and veggies, just potatoes. He will take the rest as meals for work. I only get the lean from Whole Foods.

Today was M3 Week 2 legs. I upped a couple of the exercises a bit a did fine. We'll see how they feel tomorrow. Really wasn't sore last week which surprised me. I think the shirt must just be available at the gym because all the road trip shirts I've ever seen say road trip on them. We had the biggest snowflakes I've ever seen today. Truly appeared some of them were more than an inch. It was 37, and they were melting upon impact. I'm more than over the snow this year so I deemed it heavy albino rain!

Carolyn great job adding the yoga to your PT! I really sounds like you got an excellent PT to work with. I've never heard of a Body Blade.

Carolyn great job with Low Impact Hiit and Stretch!

Valerie sounds like you got good rides in the last couple days!

its back to winter here. got an inch or two of snow late yesterday and overnight. cathy that is a hoot... albino rain! perfect. very cold here so might be the end of riding this week. even a little snow melts and makes surfaces very sticky/ muddy. cold temps are manageable, snow and ice not. dries out quickly but that of dirt is critical. new snow makes a repeat ski possible, same place we skied. one door closes but another one opens.

even thinking about wool makes me itch. merino feels soft at first but even 5 minutes was too much. I could wear with a layer underneath. maybe. synthetics are more versatile. cheaper and easy wash/dry. the main benefit of wool is breathable, warm and temperature adaptable... if you can wear it. sweaters are beautiful in wonderful colors. I tried one a short time ago but I clearly could not be comfortable in it. DH cant wear it either.

I could find a place in Bozeman for croissants but long drive. there's a bakery on a bike ride (in WA) that reopened. its mid way on a 25 mile ride so a good timing for a croissant. I could get extras and freeze them. a close-by place with good croissants would be classed as a road hazard! diane sue I never ate two at once. they are deceptive but a lot of fat in one.

ETA we are watching the Hulu series called The Dropout. it is fascinating, more so since I looked it up and found out this story is real and quite current. I couldn't understand how all these names of real characters/ people could be used in the series if it was made up. turns out its quite accurate.

I always intend to do ypga one day a week but don't manage to do it. I am good about always stretching after workouts, but that's about it.

Today I did Strong and Sweaty PHA, a timesaver with 4 rounds. That was 37 minutes and 223 calories burned. Average heart rate was 127 and maximum heart rate was 157.

Valerie, nice job with the hike a getting in 2.5 hours of cardio.

Diane Sue, great job with Perfect Flow Yoga. I looked up the Body Blade to see what it’s like. It does look like it would work the muscles well.

Cathy, great job with STS M3 Legs.

Waving hello to Judy.

Yesterday I did a 35 minute Peloton ride before work. I had a 4 hour shift in paint and I got over 10,000 steps just in the 4 hours. Paint isn't quite as physical as garden so I was surprised to get that many in.
Today I did an XTrain combo-I started with the Bonus Barre from XTrain Legs, then did Burn Sets Triceps, Biceps & Shoulders. I added on the Bonus Rear Delts to finish.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Low Impact HiiT and the Extended Stretch and Strong & Sweaty PHA.

Cathy-Great job with live Kick, Jump and Jab and STS M3 Legs. I'd love one of those shirts that Cathe was wearing. That snow yesterday was crazy! I'm glad it didn't stick. It's sunny and almost 60 today and it feels so nice out.

Valerie-Awesome job with the long hike. I'm lucky that I don't have any problems with wool. I can wear smart wool or merino wool all the time. I have a couple of regular wool sweaters that don't bother me either.

Diane Sue-Great job with Perfect 30 Flow Yoga Strength and Flexibility. The body blade looks interesting.

Well on the plus side I got 8 hours of sleep last night, on the downside that meant I slept in and got behind. Derek had a 10:00 appointment to get a swollen tonsil (just one no other issues) and I wanted to be available for questions as this is the first time he's seen someone other than the doctor he's always gone to. Turns out he had a tonsil stone. I ordered him a water flosser that should arrive Thursday and in the meantime he can gargle and poke at it. Apparently do it yourself often works. They did say the alternative was an ENT but it's a nightmare dealing with insurance up there and its not painful, just annoying. So bottom line, I didn't work out. I did go out and pick up some of the sticks and bark laying around the yard from the tree. I swear every branch broke into a dozen pieces and every bit of bark fell off when it landed.

Valerie hopefully you can get some skiing in if the weather is determined to mess with riding. Winter doesn't seem to want to let go this year. Like you I'm good with stretching, just can't bring myself to actually do a yoga workout regularly.

Carolyn nice job with the PHA Timesaver!

Judy great job with Peloton ride and with the combo from Xtrain! Sounds like an good mix.

planned a day off, but did Body weight and bands, ab #2 workout anyway. we had guests for dinner so I was busy cooking and DH doing the cleaning. this house is uncomplicated. we did a good job when we planned it. easy, fast to clean.

I never heard of a tonsil stone. I had tonsil trouble until I got them whacked when I was about 25. constantly getting sick with tonsilitis. at that ripe old age, nobody wanted to do the surgery. I was so done with sore throats and infections and antibiotics. I'm not a fan of unneeded surgery but I made the right choice. surgery and after math was pretty rough but it was one and done. cathy hope your son gets over it soon.

we are going to give a ski a try today. there was a little new snow and then it is warmer the rest of the week so that is last chance for here.

This morning I did Rev’d Up Rumble for 41 minutes and 315 calories burned. My average heart rate was 136 and maximum heart rate was 171.

Judy, great job with the peloton ride, XTrain Bonus Barre, Burn Sets Triceps, Biceps and Shoulders, and Bonus Rear Delts. That sounds like a great combination of XTrain workouts.

Cathy, have you tried the Extended Stretch that is on the STS dvds? It’s a nice yoga style stretch that is not too long. It’s about 12 minutes and is one of my favorite stretches. I have never heard of tonsil stones.

Valerie, nice job with Body Weight and Bands and Abs 2. I want to watch the Dropout sometime soon. I have been reading about the Elizabeth Holmes/ Theranos story for several years.

Hello to Diane Sue.

Today I did 50 minutes of Peloton rides, very easy pace, so more of a recovery day. My arms are sore, in a good way, from yesterday's workout. I think I will stick with XTrain for a while.

Carolyn-Great job with Rev'd Up Rumble. I've been following the Elizabeth Holmes/Theranos story for years too.

Cathy-That's good that you got 8 hours sleep. Winter definitely does not want to let go. It looks like it will be in the 30's most of the weekend.

Valerie-Great job with Body weight and bands and the ab workout.

Hi to Diane Sue

We skied this morning, 3hrs and 45 minutes. I am whipped!. it was beautiful out but the snow was barely enough in a lot of places. it was windy and sections get blown clear, and then the sun is out and melts the little left. we had to zigzag back and forth across to stay on snow for too much time. still, absolutely gorgeous out. did get to solid snow but this is the last ski here this year.

Did Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps this morning. Every time I do STS there are a number of points where I think no way can I go higher in weight and yet there are very few things that I have to adjust. It came up in my FB memories that I was doing it 13 years ago. No idea how many times I've done it, but when I do I tend to start in January. Derek said he messed with the tonsil last night and now a couple stones are visible. I'd never heard of such a thing before. I've never had any problems with mine and neither have the boys, until now.

Valerie that is a long time to be skiing, I can see why you'd be whipped! Great that you got in one more ski for the season.

Carolyn great job with Rev'd Up Rumble! I have rarely ever done the stretch with STS and not at all this time through. Most of the workouts are long and I'm just ready to be done when they are over.

Judy nice job with the Peloton ride!

cathy we are at elevation here. I didnt check altimeter but over 6000 feet. the road climbs a little but not a steep route, just close by where we live with snow. a big ranch owns most of the land but a public road runs through their land. the ranch people cleared a snow berm from last week so we could drive further but some sections of road don't ever accumulate much snow. it develops drifts on the sides but then its a procedure to ski up the slanted sides of the road. oh... I'm not complaining!. it was lovely. when we go back to WA in a couple days we will back to more snow (in the mountains) where we can ski for another month at least. there is more snow fora long time after, but Im not a good enough skier to be able to ski on steeper terrain.
I have a minor dental appt monday. we drive back saturday. sunday to rest and regroup. when we are here in MT we do something almost every day. we rack up a huge number of hours of hiking skiing and riding. when we get back to WA we usually have a few days of recovery and adjustment.
