Good morning,

Yesterday was a rest day for me. Today I am dealing with another UTI, so probably no workout today, unless I feel better later. :(. I have contacted the answering service who will have the urologist on call contact me.

Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

I have tried out a couple of workout sites offering a free trial...one was Balanced Barre and the other The Ness. Both are barre and bounce. I loved them both but will not continue...monthly price for the Balanced Barre was $29.99 And the other 39.99. Yikes! Way to much. If the prices come down I may sign on periodically. Right now I am grandfathered in at LEKfit for 15.99 so this works for me!

Fortunately, have pretty much always colored my own hair. Been doing it for years. I also started cutting it a few years back. My hair has no layers and I have bangs - very easy, plus I wear it up most of the time. I am planning to order more product online this week.

I am able to find TP in the grocery stores, but limited to 1 pack only. I am still making my own sanitizer. I was able to buy aloe and alcohol before they went scarce. We hardly use it though, since we do not leave the house. I am sure you have heard the joke...”my car is getting 3 weeks to the gallon”!! Lol! That is us!

Years ago I decided I wanted to take up sewing so bought a machine and so much stuff. Did it for a while and enjoyed it. My machine was not an expensive one and stopped working after a couple years. I never looked into why and it is still sitting in it’s case. I still have my grandmothers Singer. She received in in 1915 for her 16th bday. It is built into a beautiful mahogany cabinet that opens to a small table. I love and treasure it.

Snowed all day yesterday! Ugh!! Good thing it is April, so it will melt fast...just having the stuff is a cruel joke!!

Have a great day all!!!!

Yesterday I did a 35 minute Peloton ride. We did an early morning grocery run, our first in 2 weeks and are now set for at least 3 weeks.

Deb-I'm sorry you are dealing with a UTI again :( I hope you feel better soon. I ordered the color that you mentioned in the hair color thread. The temporary ones that I have really aren't that good and I'm going to need to do something different since it will probably be another 2 months or more before I would even consider going to my salon. I will only be covering the grey so the 2 boxes I ordered will last a while.

Lori-That's great that you can cut your own hair. I'm going to let mine grow longer for now. It was pretty short and I didn't like it that much. I haven't had it cut since February and it's just now shoulder length. We cannot find any toilet paper in stores around here. I've been able to order some from Amazon and we had purchased some right before all this happened so we are ok. I tried to find aloe and alcohol at CVS in mid March and it was all sold out.

Who would have thought wed be doing all our own hair care? I've cut DH's hair for decades but he is pretty short in the hair department so its not too complicated. I have a decent hair cuttin scissors so I could have him trim mine if needed but its a blunt barely shoulder length so I could go for months and not need anything much. the bangs are easy. I use permanent color I mix up. my previous hair person showed me what she used when she retired. I moved to a new stylist but she is sometimes too busy so I've done it myself several times. ingredients at Amazon. mix the colors and peroxide together and brush it on. its not hard but I have DH do the back so I don't splash any on the floor or clothing. I need to weigh the colors to get proportions right. our bathroom is not set up for a mirror behind. hair turns out good, maybe not salon level but close.

Deb, that is a total bummer. another one! has anyone mentioned vaginal estrogen therapy for this? after menopause, women become more prone to UTIs..... because of anatomical changes to the general area after your body stops producing estrogen. it is something to ask about. I use it as a treatment for mild incontinence. its a cream you apply once or twice a week. your doc will be familiar with this and can advise you of the risks/benefits. it is not like going on oral estrogen. if you look up frequent UTIs on a medical site like Mayo or Cleveland clinic, it is mentioned in treatment options so this is not some off-the-wall idea. ETA maybe this has been discussed and ruled out for being helpful. I'm not fishing for more info about your health but maybe no one has suggested this? it might not be appropriate for your situation. so I wont bring this up again since its getting kind of personal.

the shortages rotate and shift around . for a month here, no TP to be found, and now not ( last I looked) a problem. I bought a "bale" at Costco last week so I am set for at least 6 months. I hear paper towels are now endangered because mills are producing TP and Kleenex. . I could not find dry beans or lentils a few weeks ago, and then last week my store had a decent stock of both. I bought 2 bags of lentils since I use them a lot but did not clean out the whole shelf. still have not seen sanitizer or wipes but we had a package of wipes from several years ago that we didn't use often, and so we are set for a while. they are Kirkland ones so each package has 72. just need to be cautious about re closing the package.

we had an old singer machine probably an antique. it still worked but don't know if its still in my mothers house or not. Lori it was mounted in a lovely wood cabinet, and I don't believe you could remove it. we had a variety of machines at school to learn on back when "home ec" for girls included sewing classes. some were treadle machines, if you remember them. I had sewing experience, I always disliked it. still do. I do what's necessary and no more. part if it was my mother could not sew even on her own machine so no place to go for help.

yes Lori my car has not needed gas in > month. and prices have dropped to about 1.89 a gallon.

Today is mostly a rest day. I did a 25 minute restorative yoga practice by Alanna Zabel, but other than that I’m taking it easy.

Deb, I’m so sorry that you are going through that again.

Lori, there are so many workouts available online right now. Being grandfathered in on price is a good reason to stay with Lekfit if you still enjoy the workouts.

Judy, I’ve found that early morning is the best time for the grocery store. I’m going to try for a curbside pick up time later this week.

Valerie, those home ec classes really paid off for me over the years. Schools need some version of those classes now, but there is no time to fit them in. Many school districts have started short extra classes that they call “adulting” to teach a few real life skills. They do everything from cooking a meal to changing a tire. So many kids are graduating from high school without knowing how to do the simplest of daily tasks.

Diane Sue, I hope that your family Zoom get together works out. We just finished ours for this week.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today was a rest day. I had a nice chat with my family on Zoom this afternoon. I made a big pot of Whole 30 Chicken, Lime, and avocado soup. You don't use the avocado till ready to eat it. It is pretty spicy and I used less jalapeno in it. But, it gave the choice of chili powder or chipotle powder and chose chipotle. I used the slow cooker setting on high with my Instant Pot and it worked great.
My older daughter that is a dermatologist texted me this evening and said she had a low grade temperature. I am hoping she is not getting sick. Her best friend has been running 102-104 temps for 8 days now. Tested negative though.
My daughter in law told me that the all night grocery store does have hand sanitizer, it is just not recognizable as hand sanitizer as it looks like a bottle of wine and is sitting at the end of one of the aisles. I will have to check it out next time.

Deb, I am so sorry that you have the uti again. I hope the urologist gets back to you quickly.

Lori, those are some steep prices for fitness streaming. Snow in April does not sound pleasant.

Valerie, my car has hardly been out of the garage. I had filled it up over a month ago and I think it has about 3/4 and that is because my husband chooses to drive it when we go to the grocery store which is close. He also took it out and got my oil changed and stuff this last week.

Carolyn, I have been staying up way to late to manage to get up early to go to the grocery store. The Zoon family get together went well. My daughter in law took us to her garage via camera to see her new Jeep Cherokee she got. She said you could still buy cars by appointment. Funny, their garage is so fancy in side, television, big screen for theater viewing chrome cabinets. Then her jeep is in there.

Judy, the toilet paper shelves were empty this time when we went to the store. I got paper towels though. It is weird how that fluctuates.

Today I did JS 15 Minute Calorie Burst which was 15 minutes and 109 calories burned. Average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 151. Then I did WS3 Cardio Hit, a boxing style workout. That was 31 minutes and 206 calories burned. Average heart rate was 127 and maximum heart rate was 151.

Yesterday was our 50th wedding anniversary. The family Zoom was our celebration .

Hello to All.

Congrats Carolyn. 50 years a long time!

We loaded and unloaded a cord or two or three of wood for a workout today.

That’s a great idea about “adulting” classes carolyn. Seems a generation of people have been maintained in walking comas. Can’t read a map. no clue where they are. Will not know which direction home isunless the phone tells them. Go off on a mountain trail with only a phone ...like they come from a world where weather doesn’t change or they’ll never need a band aid, where cell phone signals are everywhere. I had to walk everywhere as a kid so maybe I learned to look and pay attention to where I was? We’ve had guests who were very smart people, graduated medical school, and unable to get from our house to the freeway although they had just arrived that way an hour earlier. drawing them a picture with road names doesn’t help. yes, everyone should know how to change a tire.... even if they don't like doing it. everyone should be able to make a decent meal so they aren't dependent on the drive thru, even if they would rather not. I always wonder how many men marry just because they want someone to cook and do the laundry. call it Life Skills. how to do laundry. shop. cook at basic level. minor household fixes. how government works including how to vote. sex education in basic health classes. probably lots more simple things. I always wonder why people throw away vacuum cleaners when they stop picking up dirt because they dont realize they need to empty the bag or dirt cup. same with clothes dryers. organizea household budget, balance checking account, keep track of cc charges. really basic things that can be adjusted as technology changes.

Off to do a road ride.

Hello,

No workout today, as I was getting over a really bad migraine headache. I think it was from the stress of getting the UTI and dealing with that.

Lori, those sites are really expensive! I know how much you enjoy the LEKfit one, and that seems reasonable. Great that you have colored your own hair, I could kick myself for never trying to do the whole thing. I only do the roots. This may be work for very much longer, as I mentioned, I don't do any of it except for the part and temples etc. Nothing in the sides or back. That's great that you still have your grandmother's sewing machine. Was it a treadle one? I had a treadle sewing machine for my first one. This was when I was in grammar school. My grandmother always used one, and when my grandfather ( who was what they called a "junk man" by trade) picked up one, they cleaned it up and gave it to me. I was really good at sewing with those pedals! LOL

Judy, nice job on the Peloton ride. Do you shop at any of the big box stores like Costco or B.J.'s? We did get toilet paper at B.J's today, and paper towels. They did not have it last Tuesday at all, but today John just ran in and they were fully stocked. We should be good for a while.

Valerie, I may have to have John do what you have your DH do for the back of my hair. I thought when you color your whole head that you just put it on all over? No problem with asking! I am open to any information on options to stop this UTI nightmare! Yes, I have been using the estrogen cream for a while. It was explained to me exactly as you described. Funny you mentioned taking sewing class in school. We had a about a 50/50 mix of treadle and electric. All the girls wanted the electric machines, and we had to rotate and use them by turn.

Carolyn, Happy Anniversary! Good you were able to celebrate with your family, even it if was virtual! I agree on the schools needing some of those type classes, things like changing tires, cooking, and some basic sewing skills, like sewing on a button. John even took cooking in HS and is so glad he did. ( so am I...! :)) He loves cooking. I don't remember a single guy in any cooking or sewing class when I was in school.

Diane Sue, Family chats are great aren't they? that soup sound really good. I hope your daughter's fever gets better.

Stay safe,

Deb glad you are trying that therapy. it works great for me for minor urine leaks, I don't have infections you have. . I hope the docs can come up with something for you. I had the UTI a year or two ago and it was miserable.

I have some big claw shape hair clips that just pinch open and closed. I use about 10 of them to divide my hair into clumps. DH paints dye on the roots starting in the back. start at the bottom, paint on dye around one section, then unclip and moving uphill, section by section to the top. its not as good coverage as the salon does, but works fine and the price is right. also prevents splattering dye all over the clothes, bathroom. Im not clever as diane sue. no way to get a mirror behind me in our bathroom.
My hair picks up dye very very easily. if I do the whole length of hair, the middle- to- end sections get too dark. even at the salon I have her do roots only. had her do the whole thing once, and it was way too dark. washed my hair about 50 times in one week. with roots only, I get a little color variation like normal hair would have. I still have a lot of brown. Gray mostly where I can see it.

I remember from sewing classes the machines seldom worked right. we had treadle and electric but a bunch of 13 yo girls ...... we broke everything. the cooking teacher seemed about suicidal by the end of an hour.

we did a road ride this morning, 2.5 hours. way busier than a week ago on the same route. commercial planting season is getting going and the governor allowed Boeing to go back to work and that made everyone else think they can go back to normal too.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw Intervals #2, 39 minutes(actual 36) heart rate 107/171,1451 steps, 198 calories. I had to write this one out as I could not find it in my papers even though I know I have done it. I need to organize those workouts somehow so I am not looking through a book. I then did Build and Burn Upper Supersets, 27 minutes, 88 calories, heart rate 111/160, 798 steps. Total time 66 minutes, calories 286, 2,249 steps.

Carolyn, happy 50th anniversary. That is wonderful. Nice you got to do a family celebration via Zoom. I suppose there is no way to plan anything else any time soon.
That is true on the young people not knowing how to take care of common tasks. They don't teach much of that sort of thing in schools anymore and parents seem to just take care of everything for them rather than teach them. Too busy to bother I guess. They sure aren't going to learn that stuff from video games.

Valerie, hauling wood is a big workout. Yes, checkbook balancing, changing tires, how to do laundry taking care of appliances properly. Common sense things really, but a lot of ignorance. Even clearing the vacuum roller of stuff trapped, etc., change the belts. Oh, and how to change a water filter in a refrigerator. I could go on and on. My husband showed all of my children how to check oil, change tires, check fluids etc.. Maybe though, if they read directions that come with stuff they would be a bit more enlightened. I find there are a lot of males that like to do the cooking or are willing to split it which is nice since most women work. Better than living off of eating out. I have those big hair clips, but do not use them often. I have a metal etagere in my bathroom and the bath is not large so it is probably 6 foot from the vanity so when I have the stand make up mirror sitting on it I can tilt to see the back of my hair really well. Periodically I comb the color through to the ends the last 5 minutes to just refresh the color on the ends as I use an ash blonde and after awhile the ends get a bit more yellow tint. Probably every couple of months though, not often. I also do my eyebrows every other time so they are not grey. My youngest daughter texted me recently asking about that. I guess she read horror stories about people that did that. I can't imagine unless they were allergic or put tons of color on their brows and it dripped. Yes, a lot of the girls in Home Economics had the sewing machines jammed or something and the teacher would be finding them another machine.

Deb, I don't remember any guys in any of my sewing and cooking classes either. My husband took cooking in high school because it was where the girls were at. He can cook when he wants to, but I do most of the cooking. He made me chicken pot pie soup when I had surgery before. He is not the one to light the grill and cook outdoors, I am :) None of those scenarios with the guy having his own grilling apron hanging out outside. I hate migraines. I hope you get to feeling better.
Oh, and my daughter's fever left. She said she felt great and got up and worked out for an hour and went outside and weeded and planted a bunch of plants that they just bought for several hours of work. Today is her day off. Their clinic is open 4 days a week, but longer hours.

I feel bad for kids whose parents do everything for them and don't let them learn. my parents weren't very good at teaching us useful things. they would never drive me anywhere, but it turned out it helped me to read maps and understand where I was and where I wanted to go at a young age. no need to learn if someone takes you and picks you up from everywhere.

diane sue that soup sounded great. DH wont eat anything spicy so I would need to make one kind for him and one for me. he never learned to cook but his father taught him a lot about cars and encouraged him to try to fix things, by saying, what have you got to lose? he is very good at fixing. technology keeps changing the machines themselves, but if you have the can-do attitude and read the manual or look it up, its so much better than not even trying.

Good morning ladies!

Congratulations Carolyn!!!! 50 years!!!!! Very nice!!!! Glad you were able to connect with your family using zoom. I am seeinng more and more people connecting on a saturday night for a “night out with friends”. Seems like a fun time all things considering.

I started a free trial with The Glo this week. They do bounce, barre, sculpt and boxing. Right up my ally. I am enjoying it and the price point is 17.99. This can work for me. Although, I heard today it was mentioned they increased their price to 29.99. Mine still says 17.99 so will go with it for a month.

Deb...oh I hope you are feeling better soon! The sewing machine is a Singer and it is beautiful. When my Nana passed my mom received it. Thank goodness she kept the cabinet closed, because being a single mom with 5 kids we would have trashed it!

Valerie...funny how one week there is a shortage then next week there is not. I have been fortunate and been able to find the stuff I need.

Judy...I am doing the same...trying to go shopping once every 3 weeks. I hate going. It is so strange the new norm.

Diane Sue...glad to hear your daughter is better. I used to color my eyebrows with no problems. Was always very careful. I do not bother anymore. I do not even wax or tweeze them. Never needed too! Very fortunate here. I also pull color through to the ends the last few minutes. Finds this brightens and blends everything nicely.

Does anyone follow The Holderness Family on social media? Bob and I are finding their videos hilarious. Below is their most recent.

OMG Lori that is hilarious!!!!!! oh yes "we" went shopping, where is the milk??? I will need to see some more episodes.

I wish I could get it down q 3 weeks but I'm doing well to keep it once a week. I did a big Costco run last week but I'm running out of fruit so need to go probably tomorrow. no point in buying 3 weeks of bananas or berries or lettuce! I'm sticking to the WW plan. means I need fresh fruit. the produce runs are fast trips I can do early, in and out in under half an hour with very little contact.

Never thought of eyebrows needing color. mine are brown like most of my hair and I pencil in the end of one that I destroyed in an swimming pool accident as a tiny kid. so many people are getting into the heavy brow look.

ETA did Reved up rumble, 100 knee pushups and the ab workout.

Today I did Total Body Giant Sets, timesaver 5 with 4 rounds, for 41 minutes and 214 calories burned. My average heart rate was 119 and maximum heart rate was 157.

Lori, I love that video that you included. It’s funny but also something we can easily relate to. I haven’t managed to get my shopping limited to three weeks at a time. Like Valerie, I rely on a lot of fresh produce. I ordered from Kroger online and did a curbside pickup today, which worked very well. I loved not having to get out of my car and I didn’t really interact with anyone. I will probably do it again.

Hello to Valerie, Diane Sue, Deb, and Judy.

This morning I did Kelly Build and Burn Cardio Core, 27 minutes, heart rate 123/193, 137 calories,2088 steps. I noticed that the heart rate dropped down to around 88 when I was doing things that required my hands putting pressure on the step like the squat thrusts, it would then show nothing while trying to pick up when I was back doing upright moves. I think that is why the spike for a few seconds. I then did Kelly TMF Strong and Lean Kickbox, 33 minutes, heart rate 114/157, wore 1.5# gloves, 151 calories, 3,191 steps. I finished with Ice stretch 1, 12 minutes, 12 calories, 14 steps. Total time was 72 minutes, 300 calories, 5,293 steps.

I guess I started and somehow got side tracked and did not post. Tonight I made a yummy grilled quesadilla that I got the idea from on pinterest. I changed it a lot though. I used a brown rice tortilla, I took some canned artichokes drained and chopped them up, added some fresh garlic, a cup of baby spinach chopped, and crushed red pepper and stirred it around in the skillet in avocado oil till it was nice and warm and toasty, then put the tortilla in my non stick ceramic skillet with a bit of avocado oil, spread half with the artichoke mixture, and laid two slices of swiss cheese on top then folded it in half and sort of squashed it down. Browned on both side. It was really good. That was my dinner :) The recipe on pinterest used mayonnaise and cream cheese mixed into it. I did not want all of that in it. Tried to make it a healthier version.
We have been going together at night about every two weeks on my husbands days off, but I also make a trip to Sprouts for more fruits, veggies, salmon, Milkadamia milk, and cashew milk yogurt. I just cant get those things elsewhere.

Valerie, I look things up all of the time for new appliances and things. My Dad worked on fire trucks and planes in the military then had his own auto repair shop when he got out. Later he was a minister. He always did things himself, and if he couldn't find a part he managed to put something together that would work. My son is like that. There is so much info on line now so a lot can be done if someone tries to find out how to do it. I used less jalapeno in that soup, but it was pretty hot and spicy. I like it that way though. I just need to have water near by :)

Lori, Glo sounds like it has a lot of variety to keep it interesting and cross train. I use a blonde eye gel from 100% pure on my brows in between. I have some brush on root touch up that works too if I skip coloring my brows. But, they do have grey in them, so most of the time I color them. Thanks for sharing the youtube video, that is so funny.

Carolyn, Walmart pick up wasn't bad, it was just that I didn't get all of my stuff. They email a parking spot number, you pull in and text that you are there, it even pops up a response getting the groceries and your car color. They even have it now where you can just let them put the cars in the back without getting out if you want and you can request they sign for you if you don't want to sign. It may be better now, but at first it was not as the stores just did not have the stock. Sprouts has it, but I am not sure what their protocol is. I still prefer picking out my produce and stuff. Although I will say Whole Foods did an excellent job choosing the fruits and veggies, packing it up and delivering it.

I am getting ads for cooking Light magazine for $20 a year when I look at recipes that are showing up similar to the Eating Well emails. so I guess they are trying to resurrect it. I run into problems with both of their emails though so maybe someone has an idea?
One recipe, when printed, will run 5 to 6 PAGES because of all idiotic lists and spacing. not to mention the waste of ink and paper. I will not print anything sprawled out like this. I cant find a way to edit it down. even sending it to myself as an email brings up the same nonsense with shopping lists and nearby stores, total crap. so far.... I copy it and go to Wordpad allows me to edit it down to 1-2 pages but its a lot of fussing. I could not edit it in Open Office. it actually might be easier to hand write it on a sheet of paper, by the time I go thru all the editing of spaces and silly lists. so if you know an easier way to do this it would be wonderful. even if I was working from a tablet I would not want it spread out like this.

I think parents can establish the pattern of looking for information about new equipment rather than just getting someone else to do it. so its the look-up procedure.

Today I did Cardio Slam, no mat premix. That was 33 minutes and 224 calories burned. Average heart rate was was 129 and maximum heart rate was 151.

I did the Zoom WW meeting this morning, which I find to be a good motivator. It’s nice to see some familiar faces and communicate with them. I don’t turn on my video since it’s usually right after my workout. I don’t want anyone to see me then!

Valerie, I haven’t tried to print a recipe from the newsletter. Usually, I select the print icon in the upper right corner to get the printer friendly version. I look at the pages in print preview and only print those that I want. I hate wasting paper on pages of advertising and other unnecessary information. When I save it to my app it creates the recipe without that added information.

Hello to Everyone and have a safe and healthy day.
