Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/8

I purchased Jessica Smith 4 mile Power Walk and did that this morning. This was 73 minutes, heart rate average 133, max 168, 415 calories, 3.52 miles is what my Fit Bit says, 7,562 steps. I really liked it. I love that she has the count down timers for each mile.

Diane Sue-Nice job with the Power Walk! I really like that one and I love the count down timers too.

we took the day off today and did grocery shopping. weather is less warm than it was but that might improve snow conditions. we plan to stay a while, not scoot off quickly like last time.

This morning I did Jessica Smith Walk Strong: Boost Metabolism Lower Body, 36 minutes, 102 calories, 105/136 heart rate, 442 steps. I used 10# dumbbells throughout. I then did Raw Upper Body Finisher, 14 minutes, 53 calories, 114/139 heart rate, 244 steps. I used 15, 10, and 8# which I used for shoulders. I finished with Step Boss extended lying stretch, 10 minutes, 11 calories, 11 steps, heart rate 79/94. Total time was 60 minutes, 166 calories, 697 steps. I liked the Boost Metabolism. It does have several segments that added in some upper body with the lower and it includes balance quite a lot.

Valerie, I need to see if I can do some online grocery shopping. Either to have my husband pick up when he wakes or maybe I will order from Whole Foods and have delivered. It will be a first for that. I like picking my own stuff. I thought I had purchased enough before the surgery , but I guess I didn't.

Carolyn, safe travels.

Ive never ordered food delivered. long time even for pizza. its a great option if you need it. of course Id rathe pick out my own stuff too especially produce.

we xc skied this morning for an hour and a half. it was nice not great. there was a little new snow but parts were still icy but supposedly new snow tonight. we had to ski past two bison. we go as far away as possible but I always worry about being the infamous person who got tossed by a bison. we went one at a time and one direction was fine but coming back she was really noticing and looking at him so detoured another dozen yards further out of her path. we later did an hour snowshoe to an overlook. didn't see anything all that interesting and it was a lot of work. uphill and windy and the snow is difficult, not soft and fluffy.

Valerie it sounds like you had a nice outing. Maybe new snow will make it better. Wildlife is not something to mess with. They can look peaceful, but even little critters can be aggressive and bite. They are awesome to watch though.
I ordered from Whole Foods through Amazon. I got 10 dollars off of my first order which was nice. They do put a 5.00 tip on it though with an option to edit. It will give me what I need, but I worry a bit about how they choose grapes and bananas. We will see. Salad was packaged. I prefer fresh that I clean and cut, but I am okay with it this time. I needed staples like milk (for husband) and eggs. A several items I just ordered from Amazon since I did not find what I wanted at Whole Foods.

Good morning,

Today I did PHA 2020, 26 minutes, 161 calories. I had to stop there as I lost the audio. I had figured out what had happened when I had no audio on any of the workouts, ( dumb me had accidently hit the audio button on the screen, then it was pulled down to where I could not view it. Found it by accident, and all was well). Now I find that I will have to restart my phone before each workout, or this will probably be the norm.

The culture came back positive, so getting the anti-biotics over the weekend was a good move.

Diane Sue, that JS 4 mile walk sounds interesting. I tried to find a clip of it at Collage, but they didn't seem to have the workout there. I wanted to see if it could be used on the treadmill, but from some of the comments I read, it has a different moves besides "walking". Are you not able to do the grocery shopping, or just testing it out? Is the tip for Whole Foods a percentage that they calculate? Do they give you what the delivery charge will be in advance?

Carolyn, I hope your trip is going well.

Valerie, great to see all that wildlife, but smart to be careful.

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

Parks are different from really "wild" animals. they are somewhat acclimated to the presence of people and cars, so tolerate us to some degree. its hard to tell exactly where that "degree" ends. parks have recommended distances to stay back from each animal, but those rules get ignored. people misunderstand and walk or drive right up on animals and get way too close. especially in winter, roads and trails are often plowed or packed down. makes walking easier for everyone, including bison and elk. they animals need their limited food and energy to survive. we are all well fed and need to give them a wide berth so they don't waste limited energy defending their space. there were two bison on the ski trail. we went off the trail to stay away. bison are notoriously ornery and every year a few people get tossed . I don't want to be in that group. if the animals approach you, its still best to back away. our parks are very good about preventing feeding or baiting animals. I saw some extremely bad behavior in Canada.

Today my family is feeling better with a more positive state of mind. Metastatic Breast Cancer was the devastating diagnosis that my 30 something daughter received on Friday. After spending yesterday with various medical specialists we have a better understanding of what this means for her going forward. She is doing very well and is extremely healthy from all appearances. This was discovered after a routine physical and follow up on some lab work. She has a wonderful medical team and an extensive support network.

I haven’t done any structured workout, but I’m trying to keep moving when possible.

I just finished Walk Strong 3 Cardio Step Jam, 32 minutes, heart rate 116/144, 149 calories, 3,342 steps. There was a break here because I started the Hiit workout and my grandson came on his lunch break. By the time he left I just decided to do short stuff so I did 1 Mile Motivation, 15 minutes, heart rate 109/139, 68 calories, 1,710 steps, and finished with the 15 minute Total Stretch, 15 calories. Total time was 62 minutes, 232 calories, 5,052 steps.

Taking the day off. we are having guests for dinner and it snowed last nght. ski conditions are probably terrific but its too much to cram into one day. skiing tomorrow will have to do.

Carolyn, I am so sorry to hear this. this is something for a breast cancer specialist. there are many new aggressive treatments options especially for younger women with this diagnosis, with much better outcomes. she should go to the best institution she can. not the time for a small local place unless is highly ranked. I think its good to have a back up person for decision making visits, since another set of ears is good. Hugs to you and your family. this is a tough one.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Her oncologist specializes in this area and has an amazing network of similar professionals. That was one of the reassuring aspects of our appointments yesterday. We are in DC.

Didn't take the day off yesterday , but did stacked upper body and abs 2. had a good dinner with our neighbors. tried to ski again this morning and it was awful. grooming stopped on march 1st. sooner than the information indicated. it said until mid march but the last time was march 1. maybe because there has been little fresh snow. we tried this morning but it was icy. went for a half an hour and I quit and went back for an hour total. not worth it.

Carolyn I'm sure you have some top level people to work with there for the best outcome. most metro areas have top level specialists but most small communities don't, so even if travel is inconvenient....it's worth going to see the best people.

we are going to head back tomorrow. tired of trying to find good ski conditions but its too snowy to bike or hike so will go back to WA where unfortunately the covid 19 virus is pretty much everywhere now. we don't do large group things ever so it wont be a big adjustment for us but we will be seriously careful about hand washing and sanitizing. neither myself or DH have any history of lung issues but we are both old enough to be in a riskier category. there are new cases now in the community where I do all my shopping, again centered in a nursing home. about 5 miles away. be careful and safe out there everyone!

Walk Strong 3 Upper weights each group is done twice ending with an overall group lighter twice. Suggested weights light 2-8, medium 8-15, heavy 10-25. I really can't imagine 25 for these moves even though some are done pretty slowly. There are really not any rests, just keeps moving. I will like that when I have the workout and weights figured out. It took me an additional 13 minutes to adjust weights and write things down.
