Cathlete
Good morning,

Today I did Cathe HIIT Circuit Upper Body. This one is really tough, and I do the premix without the Blasts...She does so much leg stuff in here, like I said before, this could actually be a total body circuit.

Valerie, it is good that you can still do bike rides without affecting your shoulder at all. I will look into those KIND bars again, but I have a couple of recipes that I make on my own that are very good, and at least I know what is in them. They make 12 bars at a time, and are low calorie.

Lots of HouseMax today. We had to replace the kitchen faucet last night...came home from the memorial service and found water dripping from under the kitchen sink counter, and a flood inside. The fittings from the faucet were all corroded and leaking. Off to Home Depot and 2 hours later, we had a new faucet in. Now to put all the stuff back. Gives me a chance to sort though it and see if it really needs to be down there. Amazing how things just "gather" in places. :)

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. The weather actually warmed up yesterday, it was over 30!

Take care,

"out of sight, out of mind" really applies to under sink cabinets, doesn't it? we will go thru the bathroom supplies when we replace things as soon as we finish connecting faucets today.
my office is a terrible accumulation. DH and I clash about what needs to be saved...receipts warranties, etc, a lot of paper and my office is where it's stored. I would like to get rid of it but he doesn't agree so we have a lot of "paper" .

we finished the tile job yesterday. we had to put trim pieces on around the countertop and needed to rent a tile cutter. we will grout maybe today. need to see how long the tile has to dry before we do it.... might be 48 hours. waiting on another possible shower door part. the header had some minor scrapes abut they sounded wiling to replace it so we will see if it shows up. this sure has dragged on.

no formal exercise yesterday. the tile cutter was quite heavy and we had to carry it a long way. my shoulder doesn't hurt using it that way. very messy and should have done it outside in hindsight.

Deb, I looked at Kind bars and didn't see anything scary. there are a lot of different ones, more than I expected to see. I carry bars in my bike pack & hiking pack. I want individually wrapped in case they don't get eaten for a month or two.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did all of BarreAmped Bootcamp (72:00). Then DH wanted to go snowshoeing because it's fairly mild, so we did that for about 90 minutes, and my legs currently feel like rubber because the snow is so deep back in our woods, and it's quite a climb. The pigs are hilarious and Max bouncing like Tigger through the snow.

Went to see Focus yesterday with a friend who wanted to see it. Will Smith playing a con artist. It's pretty good--worth a solid B for entertainment. I may try to see the Marion Cotillard film tomorrow. It's a French film, and she was nominated for an Oscar. She plays a woman trying to convince her fellow workers to take a pay cut so she won't lose her job.

We are going out to dinner tonight to a Mexican restaurant. We haven't been there in a long time.

Deb, I know what you mean by things "gathering" beneath the sink.

Lori, it sounds like we are getting a warm-up this week--in the 40s no less. Yippee!

Valerie, hope your bathroom is done soon.

Enjoy the rest of our short weekend!

Good afternoon ladies!

Yesterday was Cathe Live Bootcamp with Step. Then the sun was shining and it was 39 degrees so chester and I went for a nice little walk. He loved it and he got some nice needed exercise. Today I did a premix of Athletic Training. Was the step portion followed by core work. I then did a SB workout so I could get in all the workouts this week. Today is her stretch which I never do.

Lynda...that was some workout yesterday! No wonder your legs felt the way they did. Funny how us New Englanders think 40's can be nice weather!! Lol! Thought I heard this morning you were getting some snow later today. We have had a couple sporadic snow showers but that is it.

Valerie...yes such a drawn out project. Seems like you are getting there! I have never had a Kind Bar. I know a few people that love them. Carrying all that tile and equipment makes a workout in my book!

Deb...ha ha ha I need to do the same thing and clean out under our sink. It is at the point I never can find what I am looking for. Way to many cleaners, sponges and who knows what else!!! I have done that premix and agree with you that it feels more like a total body than an upper one. I love the premixes on this series as I like to combine my workouts and this makes it very easy to do.

Judy...how is your hip? Have you been able to keep with the SB rotation without a flare up? So far I like this Spring rotation. My glute that was nagging me seems to be doing well. Fingers crossed.

DH and I are planning to watch a movie on Net Flix. Not sure what we will select. That is our plan for the afternoon/evening. Movie and steaks on the Foreman Grill since we will not be able to get to our outside grills for quite some time with all this snow.

Hi to Josie!

Happy Monday!

Ugh...terrible nights sleep, I think part of my brain still thinks I have to get up for work on Monday, so I tossed and turned all night with the Sunday Night Syndrome.

Valerie, I have the same paper nightmare in our den where we have a 5 drawer file cabinet. I think there is more paper out of the file than in it! Another one of my projects while it is still cold out. It must be nice knowing that you are at the end of the project! Aren't KIND bars individually wrapped?

Lynda, wow, 90 minutes of snow shoeing is a great leg workout and on top of a long barre workout! Do you have major DOMS today?

Lori, I bet you are not able to use your outside grill until some time in May! :) Just kidding!

Hi to Judy & Josie,

Taking a sample to the vet this morning for a recheck for Kylee, keep your fingers crossed that there is nothing unusual. It was hilarious with me chasing her around the yard at 5:15 am to get the sample. She does not like it and dummy me forgot to put her on a leash! She was going on top of snow banks, where she did not sink in, but I couldn't follow her, because I would have snow up to my hips! The little minx that she is.

Take care,

Deb, Kind bars would work... yes, individually wrapped. Home made bars are what I was referring to. I used to make more but in backpacks and bike packs they end up drying out and disintegrating. I still make some muffins and bars but only then when we will definitely eat them. the package of bars I carry might go for weeks untouched.

Ha...we have only a 4 drawer cabinet so I guess that means we're under better control than you ! It's handy when I need to look for info about an appliance or other product but it's messy and takes up a lot of space. I also have old bank statements, old medical records etc that I think should be shredded but it hasn't happened yet. it's startling to look at old medical and dental records and see how freely we all used SSN's and credit card #'s not that many years back. none of that old paper can just be tossed, all needs shredding. Good luck on the pee sample.

wow Lynda, heck of a workout day 72 min plus a snowshoe. your legs must be fried.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did the two new low impact workouts together (50:08). I really like this premix a lot. It flies by.

No, my legs feel okay today, but the snowshoeing really was like lifting one foot after another out of quicksand. Without snowshoes, I think I would have sunk up to my hips. The snow is so deep back there.

The meal I ordered last night at the Mexican restaurant was inedible. It was supposed to be salmon on a bed of spinach with a mole sauce--one of their "specials." The salmon was over cooked and the sauce tasted like canned chicken gravy, and if there was spinach anywhere, it was not visible. When the manager saw I wasn't eating it, I told him I just couldn't because it was truly awful. He said he would quickly make me another meal, and despite my "no" (Did I really want to end up with something even worse???), he came out with a shrimp fajita dish that was delicious--sizzling shrimp with lots of little sauces and freshly turned tortillas. Bad experience, though. I don't think we will return.

I think DH and I have a 3 year rule on bank statements, credit card statements, etc. After that, shred. That doesn't mean, though, that our files couldn't use a major overhaul. It's easier to stuff something in a file than to evaluate. I also have saved all of my Vogue Knitting magazines and I have started looking at and throwing out the old ones because I know I won't be making any of the patterns from the 80s with those super big shoulders and batwing sleeves.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was SB barre. I had a dentist appt so I needed to keep it short. Then when I came home tonight it was still so nice out so Chester and I went for a 2 mile walk. Was very nice.

Deb...pretty soon all those sleepless Sunday's will be behind you and you will be sleeping like a baby. Providing the doggies behave. :). lol! I am picturing you right now running around for that sample!!! Hope Kylee is ok.

Valerie...makes sense you would want wrapped bars for your hikes. Did the part for your door arrive today?

Lynda...that meal sounds terrible. At least they made up for it with the other meal. Don't blame you for not going back. Over this way we like Mezcals. They have two locations and we visit the one in Leominster. Great food and really great margaritas! The other is in Worcester if you are ever in that area looking for Mexican. I would agree to get rid of those 80's patterns!!!!

Judy...today's SB was outer and then inner thights. I have done these in the past and this time used 2lbs ankle weights and I liked them better this way. Inner thighs really felt the burn toward the end.

The girls at work loved how Barre made them feel and they want more so we will play by ear. Every Tuesday we'll do a Leslie walk then every Thursday it's Barre. This is the plan anyway. On the other days if they want more I am game! You all knew that of course!

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Muscle Endurance, going really light on the leg work, and then a segment of core max.

Lori-My hip is a little better. Still not 100% but I feel like I can do a little more. I really like the SB rotation. I'm going to do the inner and outer thigh workout tomorrow. Her leg work in particular seems to be helping me. I had signed up for 6 months of streaming and it was up for renewal so I went ahead with the 1 year plan this time. I definitely see the benefit of barre work and of doing something different for a change. I have missed my Cathe workouts though.

Deb-I hope Kylee's sample comes out good.

Valerie-DH and I have the same situation with paper. I want to get rid of it and he wants to keep it. It's frustrating but I think he is coming around a little.

Lynda-that's too bad about your restaurant experience. I wouldn't go back either.

Hi to Josie!

Judy

Happy Tuesday.

Another terrible nights sleep. Not sure what is happening, I will definitely watch the caffeine level today. I didn't think I had too much yesterday, but that is all I can think it would be.

Good news! Kylee's recheck was perfect, no sediment, crystals etc. She needs to stay on the hormone for bladder muscle etc, and unless there are any clinical signs of anything, no need for rechecks etc. She can stay on the homemade food as well. So glad that is over.

Valerie, yes shredding is one of the projects on my list. I can see that you would need something that could be packed easily, and keep fresh. A homemade bar would not work.

Lynda, that Mexican meal sounds awful. I'm glad they took it back, but it makes for an awkward dinner, you waiting for a second meal to come out while others are finishing theirs. Even if it is only you and DH.

Lori, nice that the girls at work are enjoying their workouts. You may have mentioned before...where do you do this?

Judy, glad your hip is getting a little better. Be careful! I know it's tempting to keep on doing more with the workouts, but you don't want a set back.

Hi to Josie,

Take care,

Deb-sorry about the sleep :( I recently had to decrease my caffeine intake yet again. I dropped it quite a bit over the past couple of years but it seems like I'm getting more and more sensitive to it. I'm actually thinking about doing a caffeine detox and getting it out of my system for awhile.
That's great news about Kylee!

Hi Ladies,

My visit with my DS went well on Sunday. The kids are growing so fast :(. I only ran on Saturday because my legs were tired from bootcamp on Friday. Today I ran and will be working out wit Karina.

Deb, you will get used to your new schedule and will be able to sleep better. It takes a little while to adjust. Glad that Kylee is better now.

Valerie, I like Kind bars and Bonk Breakers. These are the bars that are supplied during the ALC ride. My favorite Bonk Breaker bar is the peanut butter banana, I love it with a cup of coffee :).

Garance, I used to keep my running magazines for years until it got out of control. I now only keep a couple of months and I also throw away my DH's magazines without asking him ;).

Judy, glad that your hip is better.

Lori, glad that the weather is better. The ladies at work are going to be in great shape by the time summer comes along.

Have a great day everyone!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did a premix for ch, sh, tris that included core 1 (47:58).

Lori, it sounds like you are getting those women at work whipped into shape! I have read that Jessica Smith has some great walking videos in case you get tired of Leslie (aka cackle and shriek). Mezcal sounds a bit too far away for us. This place has decent reviews both here and in Connecticut, but I don't think we'll be back to Coyote Flaco. I miss the Mexican meals I had at Rancho La Puerta. The Mexican place we liked in Bennington VT closed, so there really is nothing around here unless Mezze's does a Mexican theme like the fish tacos.

Deb, too bad about the sleep. My problem is getting up now that it's so dark again in the morning. Good news about Kylee. Did you hear that awful story about the dogs that were poisoned at some big British dog show?

Judy, I hope your hip continues to improve. Any plans to see a doctor?

Josie, I like the name Bonk Breaker. I will have to check them out because DH loves both peanut butter and bananas, and he could use something like that when he is haying.

Hi to Valerie!

Lynda, I saw my regular doctor for my annual physical last Friday and I asked him about it. He gave me a prescription for physical therapy and said to do that for a month before doing anything else. I was hesitant to try it again but I had my first appointment today and it was a much better experience than the last time I went. I will be going 3 times a week for 4 weeks. If that doesn't fix the problem then I'll probably get an MRI and cortisone shot.

We did a ride with friends yesterday 26 miles. it was kind of an unexpected string of problems!
When DH loaded the bikes, his had a flat rear tire. we changed it quickly replacing the tube and dashed off to meet D&P. we started riding and P caught her shoelace in the gears and had to stop and untangle it. off again... for a couple miles and DH has another flat, same tire. We are starting to wonder now(???) what's going on, but have another tube so replace it. we have gotten quick at tire changes. a little further and I catch my shoelace in the gears in a bad place but coast thru the intersection OK. everyone checks their shoelaces! We get to the town for lunch, that goes well...we start off again. P gets cornered by a homeless guy who wants to talk to her. I stayed with her and said something clever that ended the conversation on a good note, and we head across the bridge. in the next couple miles DH has another flat!. P & I are too far ahead to hear there's a problem. we stop when we see they aren't behind us but there's a half mile at least. DH decides he's not wasting another tube on this problem but D&P don't know the route back to their car. D is with DH and he has the keys. so I rode back with P, and head back to pick up Dh, watching for D making sure sure he is getting back OK. we ended up taking his bike to the bike store and getting 2 new tires which they mounted for him and .....all ends OK. must have been a worn out tire.
Today we did a hike, 2 -3 hours, nothing hard. I'm feeling my shoulder has finally reached the stage where it's truly getting better. am not taking chances with a difficult hike where I use poles a lot.

Deb, great news about kylee. I had a bad night last night too for no real reason. just could not sleep restfully. hope to catch up tonight.
Judy, good news you are happier with PT this time around. each therapist is different and some problems work better with PT. I go to PT tomorrow and hopefully will get more sessions as I requested. I wasn't crazy about this place at first but found a lady I get along well with and who seems to focus on my problems well.
Josie...Bonk Breaker is hilarious!. I've never seen but will look for them. the big test is whether DH likes them. I hate to order a case of something untried.
Lynda I'm surprised... we are crazy salmon purists out here. I've never seen it offered in a Mexican place before. sounds like they tried to "make it right" by replacing your meal. . the only fish I've ever had Mexican is fish tacos. I know other things are offered in better restaurants but my usual pick for Mexican is for tostados, fajitas, that kind of thing. I love chicken fajitas and usually go with that to avoid the overly cheesey usual fare.
that is crazy awful about the dog poisoning! How could any kind of dog lover do something like that? I would pitch anything from the '80's. I would not go back to big shoulders/ sleeves no matter what Vogue says. they look so ridiculous and distorted.

Lori.... bicep tears/ how did you do that?

Good evening ladies!

Today we did LS Belly blasting 2 mile walk and tonight I did RWH bk,bis,sh and followed up with SB arms with ball routine. Hers was easy compared to the RWH!

Deb...good news about Kylee!!! Yeah!!! I have cut my caffeine a bit through the years and have learned none after 3:30pm otherwise I am done in. We have a large conference room where we workout. We hold different classes and larger meetings in this room so the tables and chairs are easy to move around. There is a projector and large screen that we project to. We have a shower downstairs but to tell you the truth I never work up enough sweat to feel I need one! I do change in the ladies room and freshen up a bit though.

I just hit reply before I was done so the rest is added in after the above. Hate when I do this!!!

Judy...glad you feel the PT will work this time. Is it a different place? Reason I ask is when I had my bicep tears I went all summer long and felt I was not getting anywhere. I then had a procedure done on my arm went back to PT and still did not feel I was improving. I switched places and they had a different approach and a few weeks later I was feeling great. I noticed improvement right away.

Lynda...we love Mexican food. Would be so sad if there was none available to us. Matter a fact my DS and I are going to Mezcals on Saturday! I heard about the poisoning of that poor dog. How terrible. Thank you for the tip with Jessica Smith. Not sure if I can take LS week after week!!!!!

Valerie....wow! That was some ride! One thing after another. Great news about your shoulder! Mine seems to have been better. Still flares up a bit and of course I have done nothing about it.

Josie...glad your visit with DS and your grand children went well. I like bootcamp style workouts as I feel it gets everything accomplished! I'll be going on Amazon after this to check out those Bonk Breakers!!!

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I just wasn't feeling it. I was so tired. Hopefully today will be different.

I did watch/listen to an hour free webinar from the Nourishing Gurus on hormones and the role they play after 40 on weight gain. It was really good, lots of information that I probably had heard in various places, but to have it all together was informative and made a lot of sense. They sent me a recording of it, if anyone wants it, I can e-mail it to you.

Judy, I should probably do a caffeine detox as well, but we recently bought all these lovely whole bean coffees, and I hate to let them go to waste....isn't that a dumb excuse? good that your new PT worked. Did they tell you to stop any weight work while you are doing the PT?

Josie, looked up those bars on Amazon...kind of pricey, but if you like them, it's worth it. don't mind making mine, they keep well in the refrigerator, but couldn't take them on any long outdoor event. LOL on you tossing your DH's magazines...I doubt if I could get away with that. He hoards, but also knows where everything is! :)

Lynda, yes, I read the story about the dog show poisoning.....so sad and outrageous! This is what it comes to when people go to the extreme on their "stands" on things. They don't believe in dog shows, "it's so humiliating for the poor dogs" so to prove their point, they let them out of their crates so they can run off and be killed or lost, and now they poison them. Yes, they care about animals. Unbelievable.

Valerie, Yikes! that ride was just not meant to be! I really hope to get our more on our bikes this year. I better get a spare tube....I don't even carry one, let alone 3! :) I need to be more prepared.

Lori, I agree with Josie, those women will be in tip top shape for summer! Maybe you should be a fitness instructor? This could be your calling! :).

Appointment with the bank this morning, then more to do around here. I saw this book on Amazon, and they have it at the library. I may pick it up!

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a Spinerval and Suzanne Bowen's Inner/Outer Thigh workout. I think I will do another Spinerval today, since we will be starting outdoor biking soon, hopefully within a couple of weeks. It's getting into the 50's this week but there is so much snow still on the ground. It will take a while for it all to melt.

Deb-the coffees sound good! I've been mixing regular and decaf coffee in the morning to cut back the caffeine a little. When I workout I use Clif Shots or GU (energy gels) and some of them have caffeine. When I use those, the caffeine doesn't seem to hit me like it does when I drink coffee.
What I would really like to do is get to where I don't use caffeine outside of working out.
The PT didn't tell me not to workout, so I'm going to keep it up but will try not to overdo it. She gave me 2 new stretches to do every day. One is the Cobra stretch. I have to do that 20 times slowly and hold for 20 seconds each. Then she showed me a variation on a seated piriformis stretch, and I have to do that 4 times for 20 seconds.

Josie-I've seen Bonk Breaker Bars at REI, maybe I'll pick one up and try it. DH and I have been eating Quest Bars and they are pretty good too.

Lori-yes, I'm going to a different place for PT. When I went in 2012, it was to a franchised PT office. They were way over booked and didn't do any kind of one on one work or any actual therapy. The PT I'm going to now is affiliated with a hospital and seems very professional. The therapist I am working with spent at least 30 minutes just talking to me and doing range of motion tests to see what was going on. She also did some deep tissue work, ultrasound and heat therapy.

Valerie-That sounds like a crazy bike ride! Nice that you got such a long hike in. I hope your PT goes well.

Hi to Lynda!

Judy

thanks for the bit of info Judy. I shop REI. my plan, buy a few different bars ( after reading the ingredient list) ad looking for something DH will eat. Bonk Breakers , Kind, and Quest will be on the shopping list. so funny...now that he is trying to eliminate soy every single recipe I look had contains it.
The individual focus is why PT (done right) can be so helpful..that, and having you practice doing routines you can do at home. my shoulder has been getting deep massage, u/s, ice, ROM and some very light weight work. they can sometimes spot what you might be doing wrong that caused the problem to begin with, like engaging the wrong muscles to accomplish a move, or funny posture changes. I've never tried shots or energy gels.

we had at one time gone completely decaf after a long taper down process. after a while we started adding back a little. we have not gone nuts though. I have a pretty strong skim milk latte early, and (maybe) a 50-50 decaf one later. DH is potentially more of a caffeine junkie and tends toward frappachinos, and double shots, and insists on making his own coffee, so I wonder about how much decaf/decaf goes in the cup. get a little caffeine in chocolate /hot chocolate but nothing regular. no obvious caffeine after mid morning. I missed caffeine and feel this is a good compromise. he will go a few weeks and then try a little. he changed out his BP pills too so with two big changes we won't be sure which made the difference.

Deb DH has had a lot of flats. funny because we ride the same route and I haven't, and I usually ride first. we each carry a spare tube. we have a patch kit but it's impossible to find a leak and then patch it on the road, especially without a tub of water to look for bubbles! You're dead in the water if the tire goes completely flat. this was the most interrupted ride we've ever done. we think he must have had a tiny split in the tire and then a small piece of the tube is exposed. replaced the tires....they had fair number of miles on them and we could go thru a whole lot of tubes tryng to fix it.
