Good morning,

Just finished STS Total Body, one set only pre-mix. I also skipped the ab section, went right to the stretch. Just couldn't handle the core work today, it's a tough one. Probably should have skipped some of the leg stuff and done the core work, which I need more. Why is it that you hate the exercises for the body part that needs it the most?

Lots of snow last night, and it's still coming down. Will spring ever get here?

Take care,

I liked the Ab section on both TB and HR. not that I could do it completely, but I liked the moves and felt like I eventually could get them all. we are doing yardmax this weekend. not too springlike but it's time on the calendar and if we wait until it's warm there's too much to do too quickly. will try to cycle tomorrow instead of work.

Hi Deb, Valerie and any later posters--

This morning I did Tracy Mallett's Pilates Sculpt (60 min.).

Deb, we are getting all rain here, and the temp is up to 50, so it definitely feels like spring. A big and welcome meltdown. Spring cannot be too far away, since next weekend is the beginning of Daylight Savings.

We had a big meal last night at Mezze's, with appetizers made from DH's meat and then everyone ordered their own entree. I had salmon, which was really yummy for my entree. Today, before the uncle, aunt and their three sons drove back to Hartford, we went out for lunch at a Thai place. I'm cooking tonight, but we are having one of our hams, so it should be fairly easy.

I'm trying to get some work done this afternoon. A Midsummer Night's Dream for Tuesday.

Hope everyone is having a great and restful weekend.

I typed a reply Saturday but must not have posted it. For about 5 minutes I was below 160 but I was back up today, 160.4lb. I have given up on low calorie diet. I wasn't hungry but got tired of the limited choices. I hope I don't gain all the weight back.

Joan

Good morning!

I did a treadmill interval workout that I downloaded for free from iTunes. I guess you get what you pay for. Anyway, we did get a good few inches of snow yesterday, enough for DH to gave to get the snow blower out.

Valerie, I do like the abs/core section of TB, can't do all of the exercises though, especially those leg thrusts. I know if I did it consistently I would work my way up to being able to do it. I don't like the warm up or cool down in this one for some reason. Way too many dead lifts and lat rows, then she does them again in the actual workout. I wish I could be in the garden doing anything!

Garance, it rained here all day Saturday, then overnight it turned to snow. I wonder if that is our weather you are getting? Moving east. Your dinner sounds delicious.

Joan, try South Beach. If you can get through the first 2 weeks, ( and if you could do what you were doing you should be able to), it is pretty good. Not sure if you would like the one I am on. Nothing white, no dairy, no flour except Spelt or any other sprouted grain. Nothing processed. It's not as hard as it sounds. I need to really get back on it faithfully. I let too many things like travelling get in the way. How are the taxes going? How is your DM doing?

Hi to Josie & Cathy,

take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's double Bootcamp intervals (55 min.).

Yikes--over night, the rain turned to ice and now it's snowing again! PLEASE STOP! At least we did not lose our power as some places around and in Albany did.

Fiancee's mother presented me all of these little gifts yesterday. Very Chinese tradition, I guess, in terms of meeting the groom's family. She's very sweet, but her English is very broken, so there is a lot of translation.

Deb, it sounds like you got off easy, because they keep reporting these gargantuan snowfalls north of here. I suppose we did too, but at the moment, I'm just watching more snow fall.

Countdown begins to spring break. Can. Not. Wait. Just hope it really is spring when we break.

Deb, I can't do all the leg thrusts either but I think (??) I got everything else, pretty much anyway. for some reason I have balance problems. I think my "platform" is big enough but i topple off for some reason. v-sits are the same way. but I think I will be able to do it all if I do it regularly.

Joan, regroup and try something less austere. I think when you eat so little that you can't exercise you slow your metabolism down to zip. at least that's what we keep hearing.
a lot of good things about weight watchers. another group I post with is a ww support group tho I'm not officially on any particular diet. I eat minimal meat so I can't comment on south beach.

we did more yardmax yesterday and went mt biking today. It really is a terrific leg workout but burst exertion rather than steady state.

it is getting quite springlike here though it froze last night. typical. our snow is gone and it was sunny and warm today. 50-ish & very nice.

Lynda, one of my restaurant favs is salmon. DH absolutely hates it so I don't ever have it at home. we get fantastic wild salmon here and it's a huge big deal when the copper river salmon come in from AK. I love, love Thai food. but again, DH is not thrilled with it. hates fish sauce which is in many traditional dishes. he'll find something on a menu but I gave up making it at home.

Good morning all!

I just finished STS TB Upper Body only pre-mix. Adding the warm up, this is around 31 minutes, just perfect. I am looking forward to the new K-C-M,'s 30 Minute workouts that she says we will have by April 1.

Still checking for the puppies to be born, one due date was yesterday, but nothing announced.

Garance, you got the same weather we did a couple of days ago. Now it's just cold. It's supposed to get to the upper 30's today, then 40 or so towards the end of the week.

Valerie, I also love Thai food, one of my favorites, I am glad that DH likes it a lot too. Salmon is not a favorite of mine, maybe because I have never had "good" salmon? or so people say. It's a little too fishy for me. I love meat, chicken, pork, are my favorites, and a good steak once in a while. If we lived near Garance, we would definitely buy beef from them!

Hi to Josie, Joan & Cathy,

Take care,

Wow, I think I'm making DH sound like a "fussy" food guy. Actually he's pretty agreeable and will try most things. since I pick what to cook I go to things I like. and I like MUCH spicier food than he does. sky is the limit! so I tone down the seasoning or up-charge my portion after his is out of the pan.
Deb, canned salmon is horrid. it was the only "salmon" I'd seen until I moved west. fresh salmon is good but must be prepared right... often overcooked. guess that's true about most things but especially for salmon. Not my favorite food but usually a reliable entree in restaurants where vegetarian offerings are usually pathetic.
I've totally missed out on the sushi craze too. very popular around here and the little bits I've sampled were yucky. my niece is a big sushi fan so I hope to go out for it sometime with someone who can help. must be something to it if all these people love it.

I'm very pleased with 3 of the 4 latest disks. still didn't do intensity, probably no time today. yoga, then shopping. grocery, costco, drug store, the whole lineup. I'll do either HR or STS total body. thinking about restarting STS again soon
.

Cr@p, the day is not going well. just after I posted earlier, I started making DH's lunch/breakfast, turned on the wash machine so I could do a load while at yoga. the water pressure was very low and sounded funny, then sputtered. so turned it off, thinking maybe DH , who was downstairs exercising, had for some reason turned off the pressurizer. no luck. something is wrong, no water. he left for work and I'm trying to figure out how to get the water to fill the lines. think we've got an air lock somewhere. we're on a community private well and they, for some reason, ran 'low" yesterday and I think we have air in our line. so much for my plans for the day............ get to be a unpaid plumber. Arrgh!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

Hope your day is improving, Valerie! We had our pump go out one time, and it took a long time to fix it, so I was showering and getting water from relatives. A real pain in the butt.

Deb, I think I read over at Videofitness.com that the KCM's might be a bit later than she originally believed. I need some new cardio, so I hope they are wrong. I tend to stay away from the farm-raised salmon, but I love the wild salmon. Beautiful day today because the sun is out, but it started out cold this morning.

Hi to Josie, Joan, and Cathy!

Arrgh! problem resolved. it was a community water system issue where the reservoir got low.... definitely not our fault... and we got air in the lines. I got everything drained out, got rid of the air in the lines, and refilled. only took 3 hours... our house is 3 floors so I've done my cardio for the day, up and down, up and down. our individual pressurizer is fine, we thought it had failed! it was expensive. glad it was a bigger problem, but at first it's hard to tell what the cause is.

yes, the farm raised salmon isn't as good as wild fish. they both are ruined by over-cooking. I have a piece of salmon frozen right now that my BIL caught in oregon. saving it for a night when DH isn't home for dinner so he can't complain about the cooking smell. he really hates most fish.

Good morning,

Got up and did Cardio Coach #4 for 40 minutes, a really tough workout. I skipped the last steady state part, just cooled down.

Valerie, I'm right there with your DH. Do not like most fish, especially the really fishy ones. LOL. Now give me a good old fashioned beer-battered, Buffalo Fish Fry, probably the most fatty caloric fish you can have, and I am happy, but I steer away from those. Glad the water situation is set. I don't know much about community sharing of water, or well water, so most of what you described was new to me. We have good old public water, with a water main that is under the street right to the house, and that's about all I know about where the water comes from. I do know that we get billed quarterly for it and its metered.

Garance, I am disappointed that they are saying the KCM new DVD's are going to be late. Kelley said on her site that she was going to get them out by April. She has not mentioned a late date.

It is supposed to warm up a little today, we may see 40!! Yippie.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did the Ultimate Cardio Barre (55 min.). There are two add-ons on this dvd that I should look into.

Deb, maybe I'm wrong about the KCMs. I think instead of early April it will be late April. Hope I am not imagining this. I should check back at the videofitness.com site and see if I can find the post. You don't like any fish? I bet you like shellfish--lobster, crab, shrimp. If you can get really fresh fish, it doesn't smell. I love sushi.

Glad everything worked out for you on your water, Valerie.

Long afternoon teaching Coppola, followed by a faculty meeting.

Deb, there are about 200 families on our own water system . we have a small purification plant, etc. a couple homeowners maintain it. we need to meet all the requirements of a city facility. occasionally there's a bump in the road! we may need to put an alarm on the system so if the reservoir gets 'low" we don't accidentally pull air into the water lines, which is what happened. anyway, all Ok today. DH was impressed that I got it done.... tee hee, not really an idiot, I do better if left to my own devices. he gets all lathered and starts running around doing things too quickly.

I'd like that battered fish ( and chips) too but I don't eat it. I have a couple simple recipes that we I both like, fast & easy. usually use tilapia. I'll post if anyone is interested. one is a WW recipe with a crumb topping, one is southwest baked tilapia, one is a citrus sauce. all very tasty. fast, use any kind of mild white fish. DH, the notorious fish-hater, likes these! I never thought I'd hear him say, "lets have fish tonight". not salmon though.

Did High Reps yesterday afternoon. Really like that one. I tried those dips again and the problem was 5 lb dumbbells. using 8's made it possible to lift off better. got almost the entire ab section this time. it's similar to STS TB. I've done Coremax so many times I'm tired of it. there was also an ab disk maybe with STS? bunch of different ab workouts but most were too difficult.

Good morning,

I decided to take a rest day today, as my knee was hurting a little after yesterday's CC workout. I had "legs" on the schedule for today and I did not want to aggrevate it.

Valerie, yes, please post those recipes for mild fish, they both sound good. I like tilapia, but it does need something to flavor it, because it is so mild. I haven't tried HR yet, will start with it this coming week.

Garance, I checked over at the KCM site, no new posts about when the worktouts will be finished. Do you get any cardio effect from the cardio barre workout? Those are like yoga to me....I know I should do them, and I know they are great for your body etc, but I just can't get into them for some reason.

It has been raining all night again, better than snow I guess.

Take care,

Lynda, I don't care for shellfish. DH Crab is very popular here, mainly Dungeness crab which I'm told is milder than alaska king. when I first moved here I tried to get "into seafood" especially local stuff. oysters, crab, clams, mussels. yuck. tried multiple ways to prepare them. lobster is so-so, prawns I'll eat. the sushi I've had is limited to california rolls and I think there was something fake in them. the fish part was sweet and weird tasting. I like halibut and most other mild white fish and of course salmon. even tuna does not get into this house. I HATE mayonnaise or anything mayonnaise based and so often it goes along with fish. I've thought sushi would be a lost cause.

Deb, i'll post those fish recipes later today. gotta go to yoga this morning to make up for the tuesday class I missed.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Just Dance (51 min.).

Deb, the Ultimate Cardio Barre does get your heartrate up because of the frenzy of the movements more than anything else. My favorite barre workout is Tracy Mallett's Booty Barre, which has a great upper body workout with weights and definitely gets my heartrate up at times, but I use it principally for legs. It also has a short explicitly cardio section. I also love the music on Rockin' Models and this one really fries my legs.

Valerie, I love all fish and shellfish, but increasingly, I stay away from the farm-raised stuff, because a lot of it comes from pretty nasty water. Before the oil spill, I bought only Gulf shrimp, because the other stuff comes from India and southeast Asia and is farm-raised. My favorite sushi is yellowfin tuna and flounder. Rolls are okay, but I like the fish on a bed of wasabi and rice and dip it in soy sauce and eat it with a sliver of pickled ginger. Lobster is probably my favorite thing of all. MMMMM! Steamed with lemon and melted butter for dipping. I've come a long way from my Minnesota upbringing, where the only fish we had were fresh water fish. My mother overcooked everything--fish, meat, poultry, you name it, it was dry.

Raining here. Ugh!

I was raised in Wisconsin, so I can relate. Milwaukee was famous for its friday night fish fry in restaurants. fried fish, potato pancakes and applesauce if I remember correctly. I don't know what kind of fish. don't know if that's still popular there.

Deb, these are some of our favorite easy fish recipes. I never use 450 degrees and always adjust down. way too hot for my oven. sets off the smoke alarm. I think you could use any kind of mild white fish.
I like baking fish on parchment paper. I hate cleaning baking sheets and parchment works much better than foil, though that works too. you can use less oil and nothing sticks to parchment.
========================================================

Baked Southwest Tilapia

1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp chili powder ( I use ancho chili)
1 tsp salt ( I use 1/2 tsp)
1/4 tsp cayenne ( I skip )
1/2 tsp black pepper

2 TB olive oil ( I use less)
1 lime cut in wedges
4 (6 oz) tilapia fillets

Preheat oven to 450 ( I do 425). Mix dry seasonings together. Brush both sides of fish with oil. sprinkle seasoning on both sides. brush baking sheet with oil. bake tilapia in a single layer 7-9 minutes until it flakes easily. (thickness of tilapia fillets varies a lot)

* my notes ...use cod or halibut too. I bake on a small sheet of parchment paper. never sticks, easy clean up, and I need less oil. 450 is too hot in my oven. I use 400-425.
I serve it with a large green salad and baked sweet potato fries.... not TOO many.

=====================================================

Flounder Oreganata WW 7 points

Preheat oven to 450 ( I use 400-425)

Lightly oil or nonstick spray a baking sheet or use parchment paper
Place fillets on baking sheet
Combine oil, crumbs thru oregano in a food processor and pulse to mix. press equal portions of crumb mixture on top of fish. Bake about 10 minutes until opaque in the center. .
==========================================================

Pan-Seared Tilapia with citrus Vinaigrette

4 (6 oz) tilapia fillets
Sprinkle with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper

1/2 cup white wine
2TB chopped shallots
2 TB lemon juice
2TB orange juice
4 tsp olive oil
2 tsp sherry vinegar or white wine vinegar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper

Heat large nonstick skillet over medium high heat. coat with cooking spray or lightly coat with oil. Cook fillets, 2 at a time, about 4 min per side. Remove from pan, keep warm.

Add white wine to pan. cook 30 seconds until almost evaporated. combine shallots and remaining ingredients, stirring well. stir in 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper.

I'm still alive but not by much. I'm worn out. My schedule is eat, sleep and work.

I should have put the elevator in last year. My mother now has pain in her leg and can't walk more than a few steps. I have to push her wheelchair to get her into the kitchen for meals. She used to get most of her meals by herself. Now I have to get everything for her, usually in between appointments.

I will quit complaining and go back to work.
