Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/31

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did premix 6 on Legs (48:33).

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday in their own way. I'm cooking a ham with a honey and Marsala wine glaze, scalloped potatoes, grilled pineapple slices, and a salad. Just the two of us, so I expect we will have this meal at least one more time.

Lori, please let me know about that STS rotation. I have 7 more workouts in the undulating rotation to do (I seem to have repeated a week somewhere--duh!), but then I plan on doing an STS rotation.

How did your brunch go, Deb?

Good evening all!

Hi to all!

Had a very nice day today. Weather was beautiful. Was able to fit in Ride and take Chester for a 3.24 mile walk. We both enjoyed this. My legs are feeling it so pretty sure I will sleep in tomorrow and not get up and run. Will be good to rest the legs since I am starting with STS tomorrow.

Garance....I can email you the rotation if you would like. PM me your email address and I will send it over. It is a pretty aggressive rotation and I know I will love it. However, after taking a closer look at it some of the weeks substitute Xtrain weight workouts for the STS ones. I would rather not do this since this is the first time with STS. I love everything else though and will just add in the appropriate STS w/o and keep the recovery weeks in between meso cycles. I like a scheduled rotation and having the workout already planned for me. If left up to me than it will be to easy for me to skip a workout here and there. I feel obligated if I am in a rotation.

Again hope you all had a great day and will chat with you tomorrow!

Good morning,

I was so tired today, I didn't get up for a workout. Brunch went well...6 boys all hyped up on candy was pretty loud and crazy, but they are good kids. Even the dogs were beat and they didn't wake me up to go out. I actually got them up this moring!

..Keegan has been chewing one of his rear legs, all the hair is off in the back below his knee...not sure what that is...maybe he got bitten by something..I had to bandage it last night so he would leave it alone...it's always something around here!

Not much else going on...work, then class tonight..

Take care..

we had a wonderful weather weekend.. gorgeous, sunny, warm. both days. 70 degrees. this was one of dh's last call weekends before retirement in a few months.

we did the manure ( as promised) Sat morning. a whole truckload! it was a lot of shoveling. I got sore but its Ok today. It's composted and dry so it doesn't stink and is surprisingly unmessy. we have a (mostly organic) huge garden. I need to use a little slug bait so probably not 100%. DH had the truck backed down to as close as we can get and when I arrived with my shovel there was a big red bow on the back of the tailgate! my official B-day present!
Between sat and sunday tilled and planted the entire garden. ... except for treal warm weather things like beans and basil. washed the cars, truck, and camper. so sunny and warm it was lovely. my peas and spinach are up and lookin' good, and my lettuce ( on the deck) is almost ready to harvest. tomato plants are out too. even if not always sunny, temps are mild and plants ( and weeds) grow like crazy.

Deb, I'd rather run a marathon barefoot than deal with 6 kids. never had any tolerance for children and am so glad I didn't participate in that process. I think it's a family trait, my brother and father could not either. dogs ( and cats) will chew on anything that bothers them. Hope you don't need to resort to a Elizabethan collar but they do work if necessary.

I don't want to read back several weeks of threads... I am buying the upcoming spin bike disk from someone... is it you Lori? just want to make sure.

watching Mad Men right now. I try to like this series but it's not a favorite. I had totally forgotten most of the plot lines and I don't "like" anyone in it very much. I wonder if people really drank as much as it seems like? wow.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact Hiit premix 1 (49:22).

Deb, sounds wild at your house yesterday. I remember the zany birthday parties we had for our boys when they were little. Felt like a whirlwind and then it was over. DH made these wonderful piñatas and my work was making a cake and coming up with games. Maybe eczema for Keegan? I grilled pineapple with a little bit of cognac and it was really delicious with the ham. Doing that again tonight.

Lori, I will pm you with my email address. For some strange reason I am still completing the undulating rotation so I won't start STS until I finish 7 more workouts. I guess I'm even more absent-minded than the proverbial professor. Watched the beginning of Game of Thrones, third season, last night. Wow--it is so good!

Valerie, you are lucky to be able to start a garden this early. DH will probably start some lettuce, but nothing else until we know there will be no more frosts.

Hi to Josie!

Hi Ladies,

Had a nice relaxing 3 day weekend, I ran on Saturday and took the day off on Sunday and hung out with my DD. Today’s workout is plyo cardio circuit.

Valerie, Lori has a spin bike now, but I think that you are going to be buying the DVD from Garance. I will be buying it from Deb.

Deb, I understand how tired you must be. When my peanuts are visiting, they are non stop and it’s only 2 of them ;)

Garance, I can’t believe I missed Game of Thrones last night. I will have to watch it when I get home. I was also planning on watching the Bible and missed that too :( Talk about absent minded!

Hi Lori!1

Josie

good afternoon!

This morning I slept in and it felt great! disc 1 of STS tonight. very excited about this. My son will be doing STS too. Not at the same time but on the same days. It will be great to chat about the workouts with him. I think I mentioned we did P90X together and it was a lot of fun. We both actually got up at 5am and worked out together coaching eachother on. HOWEVER...my son is 21 and not an early riser and swore he would never do that again!

Sounds like your day was a lot of fun Deb. It is great to be with family. Very strange with Keegan cheewing. There must be something itching there that he can't get to.

Valerie...yes I will send you my Spin disk. I bought the downloads and prefer watching spin downloads on my Ipad so this will work out. I will send it to you immedialty after receiving it.

Josie...when doing my next rotation I am going to throw in some of the Insanity workouts. Will do them most likley on a Saturday. I will certainly let you know when I do.

Garance....I can not wait until I get to season three. Very few series really hook me and this is one of them. I am just about finished reading the first book and I have watched the first 8 episodes of Season 1. Then on to reading the second then watching a few episodes. I have all 5 books ready to go on my kindle. Will take a while to get thru them as they are SOOOOO long! Funny that you must have repeated a week. I thought you ended up with a few more workouts than me. I think when you had your surgery is when it happened and was trying to catch up.

Have a great afternoon!

thanks lori..... I wanted to clarify just so no one orders something extra that will not get used. knew you had a spin bike but didn't remember why you weren't going to need the disk, and I didn't want to sort back several weeks of threads to find out. and Lynda, I hope that is the way you understood the plan... I remember your DH doing the order for you but that's all I recall.

We took our kayak for the maiden voyage this morning. not everything worked perferctly mostly our fault. putting it together outside was both easier and harder. will need a few repeats before it's smooth. went to a lake in a park so no motorized things to contend with. saw an eagle try to grab some ducks but he missed. a big lake, lots of paddling. will take some time to feel confident though.
it also got cloudy and cool so no sunshine until later today, a common pattern here. I got quite wet from paddling which wasn't expected. I thought my pants would get wet so brought back up pants/socks but no, my arms got soaked and I didn't being another shirt. so we idled the car with the fan on to dry my shirt so we could do the mountain bike we'd planned after lunch. this will be easier when it's warm and sunny and getting wet isn't a drawback.

Animals are funny... if they get a spot that is itchy or irritated it seems they can't leave it alone, so whatever the original problem was is lost in translation. I'll bet she got the bandage off! I could not believe my cat getting his stitches and two sets of staples out and it didn't take him long either.

Good morning,

I ended up taking a half of a vaction day to take Keegan to the vet. He may have some sort of mites although the skin scraping came back negative. The vet said that if it is Scabies( sp?) they can rarely be seen on a skin scraping. They are highly contagious to both other dogs and people. Lovely. He is on an anti-biotic to keep the infection down. If it spreads I need to take him back for a series of shots. Had to cancel his treatment tonight since if this is contagious, I don't want to bring him where he could infect other dogs...it's always something!

Valerie, I would rather run a marathon barefoot than shovel a truck load of anything! I bet you get that kayak thing down quickly...I wouldn't think that you would get that wet either...yes, Keegan got the bandage off when he was running the fence in the yard to bark at a dog going by...otherwise it just slips down his leg...I haven't figured out a good way to keep it up where it is helpful.

Garance, I used to do a pinata when we had everyone over for Mexican food dinner. But the boys were too little to actually hit it with a bat or whattever, so they took turns and reached in to pick out stuff, toys etc. They would probably enjoy it now since they are older and could do it.

Josie, sounds like you had a nice weekend with your DD..

Lori, sleeping in? what's that? LOL...I have been horrible about getting up early to do a workout...last time I did anything was Friday..have to get back on track..

Take care,

Did everyone who uses IE get an automatic upgrade to windows 10 this morning? had to drag out the cheat sheet to get all the passwords entered right.

Deb, it's a big garden and way downhill from our garage.. anything that goes into the soil is either big bags or truckloads. we do it all at once in spring. we can back the truck down a rough road and shovel, wheelbarrow or cart from there. It's a lot of work for a few days every year and shoveling is a GREAT upper body workout. I get fatigued but usually not that sore.

It's way more than a big patch of grass, which I'm allergic to anyway. We grow broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, peas, beans, swiss chard, onions, garlic, carrots, lettuce, kale, basil, couple kinds of winter squash, zucchini, corn, tomatoes...well you get the idea. It tastes great, fun to do. tomatoes are the hardest here, not warm enough most years. after everything is planted there's some watering and weeding but it's so worth it. we can't eat it all... in an average year there's way too much to eat.

Good morning!

Had a great workout yesterday. Did Disc 1 and boy I am already feeling it. I all ready know this program will give me a run for the money.

Did manage to get up and run 2.25 miles this morning. So pleased about that. The rotation I am doing has RIDE scheduled today. Since I ran this morning I may cut ride a little short. Will see how I feel tonight.

So sorry to hear about Keegan. Ugh and you are right it is always something. I am sure you will get this under control before it gets out of hand.

Valerie, I'll have to say I love reading how active you and your husband are and love that you are active together. My husband is on his feet most of the day so the last thing he wants to do is workout consistently with me or even walk Chester with me. Good for you guys! Oh and if Garance's husband did order the Spin CD then by all means buy her's first as you seem to have done this in the past. If he did not then you can buy mine. I should come second!!

Chat with you later Ladies!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Supercuts, premix 2, which includes core 2 (58:25).

Deb, I wonder where Keegan managed to get scabies. I had a friend who was hospitalized for pneumonia and by the time she was released, she had scabies from the hospital stay. Hospitals are bad for one's health I've heard.

Valerie, DH did not order the bundle that includes the spin disk because we don't have a bike, so you should buy from Lori. Have fun with your kayak! No garden yet--we are now enduring a blast of Arctic air. So tired of this endless winter.

Lori, thanks so much for those rotations. I will start an STS rotation on Sunday. I'm sure I have done the undulating rotation by this Friday--just lost track somewhere. I think book 3 was my favorite of the books and this season is apparently based on the first half of book 3. The reason for doing 2 seasons based on book 3 is that there are so many different plots and they are far-flung in terms of location.

Good morning,

Not feeling like doing anything right now...not sure if this is winter doldrums or what, I hope it goes away soon. As for Keegan, it doesn't seem to be getting any worse, and he is leaving it alone so maybe the anti-biotics are working and he really didn't have scabies. ugh...just the thought gives me the creeps..

Valerie, I get automatic updates all the time...sometimes they don't even work...I get errors saying that the updates could not be done...I have never had to do anything with passwords though...that seems strange. I agree, at least with shovelling you are getting a good upper body workout.

Lori, what does your husband do, ( being on his feet all day )..if you don't mind me asking? I am starting to wonder if I shouldn't have spent the extra $20 and gotten the downloads too...just to start playing around with them with the iPad.

Garance, Yes, most people now that go into hospitals pick up something and sometimes it's worse than what they had when they went in.

There was a write up in our local paper yesterday about the book called "Below Stairs" which is the memoir of a woman that worked in an England household as a maid/servant, in the early 1900's and what it was like. I think it was the book that the series "Upstairs, Downstairs" was started from. I am going to see if they have it at the library..they said it is like Downton Abbey, only a true story from someone that was living it at the time.

Work, then class with Kylee...that's it for now..

there 's satisfaction in growing some of your food. If a crop fails, I can buy whatever I need so no pressure. I never seem to time the lettuce well enough so there's always some available. I can't say it ALWAYS tastes better than bought stuff, but mostly it does. some things are much better. we get a lot at once of whatever ripens so I give some away and some stays in the garden.

One thing that annoyed me this year was tomatoes. we always grow Early Girl tomatoes. tomatoes don't grow well here. this year no one had seeds for them. something about Monsanto controlling the market and shutting down production of seed for this variety. I have no idea why. I don't think they're grown commercially. something similar to their pressure on farmers to use their soybean seeds only, the GMO variety, so farmers can't harvest and use their own seed. Monsanto is a bully of a company.

yoga only yesterday. then a busy day plus a physical exam, new doc. all went well. nothing wrong so far.

decided to ride today, probably our usual trail ride of about 25 miles.

I'm forge tting what scabies is without looking it up. mites?

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact HiiT (38:56).

Deb, I think I heard an excerpt from that book on the NPR show where they read short stories. It was really funny. Let me know how you like it.

Valerie, I LOVE homegrown tomatoes, and they grow wonderfully here. DH does several varieties, some heritage (favorite heritage is called Brandywine, ugly but very sweet). He doesn't grow them from seed though, instead picking them up at a local nursery which is very good.

Hi to Josie and Lori!

Hi ladies!

Last night for my cardio I ended up not doing ride but did slide and glide. This is not a really tough workout but from running in the morning my legs were really tired this morning so I opted not to run today. Tonight instead of doing disc 2 went with disc 3 which is legs...go figure. My upper body is still feeling DOMS from all of Monday's pushups!!! I feel like my rhythm is all messed up. Legs are still feeling good after disc 3 so we will see how tomorrow goes.

Deb...my husband is a general manager of a steak restaurant known for bison. It does quite well and is an extremely busy restaurant. So needless to say he is moving around all day and last thing he wants to do is walk the dog with me! He broke his ankle at work last august and bought a recumbent bike to help with his PT. This plus some weights is pretty much all he does. Don't blame him.

I am really glad I bought the downloads. Maybe you still can add them on for the same $20. i would email and ask. you never know! The book sounds good too. I am going to look it up for my kindle.

My neighbor has a wonderful garden and usually shares his wonderful veggies with everyone. Tomatoes are always delicious and huge!!

Have a great night.

Good morning,

Still not happening with the workouts...I plan to start Sunday, not sure what workouts to do, nothing is calling out to me.

What I need to do is toss all the Easter candy that is around here...too tempting when you walk by the dish.

Valerie, I used to like when John had a vegetable garden, but it is a lot of work...mostly the weeding part. How do you keep the weeds down in a garden that large? Yes, scabies are mites...the worst kind. I don't think he actually has them, because it is not spreading, and Kylee would have them too...**crossing fingers***

Garance, I put that book on my e-book wish list for the library...I'll let you know when I get it...

Lori, if I added the downloads, I would need to get the cable set up to get them on my TV from the iPad...the iPad is ok for hotels or once in a while workouts, but no way I would do them from there all the time. I kind of still like DVD's, with the premixes all set up for you already etc. I can imagine how busy your DH is, restaurants are tough work...especially being a manager, with employee issues etc. not to mention the customers! He must have stories to tell. LOL...

Hi to Josie,

Off to get ready,

Hi Ladies,

I did my cardio power resistance DVD yesterday and today will be pure cardio when I get home. I did my workout in my garage last night because I wanted to use my puzzle mats.
I love them and my knees felt better. The scale finally moved for me again, I was stuck at a 12 pound loss and this morning I was down another 2 pounds ;) I just want to loose 8 more.

Deb, are you bored with the workouts that you have? Try the ones on youtube that I suggested.

Valerie, your garden sounds wonderful!

Lori, I can never run and do spinning on the same day. My legs feel like noodles ;)

Garance, did you finish the jacket?

Josie
