Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/15

Good evening ladies!

Did some SB barre this morning and walked with the ladies. No workout tonight. I was very busy at work today and I am just tired.

Valerie...lol on the dusty rose. Many years ago my mom loved that color and had it everywhere!

Lynda...good to know about Dancin' Abs. Will look this one up.That is amazing about the drummer. What commitment. Sounds like your meal was great also. I brought some home for my DH and he was so happy. I am practically all Irish. I think there is some french in there somewhere on my mom's side. My paternal grandparents were born in Ireland....well actually my grandmother was. My great grandmother from Ireland was traveling to England while she was expecting my grandfather...well she went into labor early and he was actually born in England rather than Ireland. He was always so bothered he was not born in Ireland! I have only been there once. In 1994 my mom was terminally ill and wished to see Ireland before she passed. So one of my brothers and I made it happen. Was a nice vacation but bittersweet.

Deb...something about core work on the floor I just do not like. I did like P90x ab ripper even thought it was on the mat. Maybe I should pull this out more often. I also like the RWH bonus abs 1 too. The Live workouts range from 42mins to an hour. Most can be easily split into shorter workouts. For example...kickbox with barre....you can do one or the other or both.To me the Live ones just fly by. She is more forgiving in these too...frequent water breaks! I love the ladies that workout Thursday morning doing these classes. Noce to see them week after week. Very inspirational!

Hi to Judy and Josie!

well the project goes on. this morning, just like I'd thought could happen, we got a duplicate header for the shower door via UPS , this time the right size! I guess we will just keep it as they likely don't want it back. they make nice shower doors but I have no idea how they will stay in business with this kind of c.service.

we did a 25 mile road ride and looked a huge field of daffodils, must have been a million of them.

it's 24 hours since we sealed things. going to test the shower for the first time.... get ready for this... DH gets in the shower, the doorbell rings.....UPS... so I go down to get it. I bring the boxes in and go to the kitchen to pour myself a glass of wine and there is ALOT of water pouring out of the light fixture in the kitchen. I threw a towel on the counter and I shot upstairs and yelled "turn it off, turn it off".
these are the plumbing connections we had the plumber do because we didn't want to do it ourselves. the shower pan, the drain, the shower connections because they're behind a wall or under the shower pan. we think he forgot to install a piece in the drain because....

we ran the shower head into a bucket and no water in the kitchen, so the connections behind that wall are likely OK. then we ran water directly down the center of shower drain pipe, and again no water in the kitchen.
we think there must be a piece that surrounds the drain pipe itself that wasn't put in. the water POURED down thru a ceiling light, not a little bitty drip. this is their responsibility and fault. so we have to have the idiot back here to fix what he didn't do right to begin with. if we have to pull out the pan, tile and the shower door I will kill this guy as soon as he finishes.
we purposely did not do this part of the project (and paid someone else) because we didn't feel confident we could do it. I had hoped I would not have to see this idiot again.

they will come and see what they did wrong tomorrow or Friday. Arrgh!!!

Good morning,

This week is flying by...getting close to Easter, which is really early this year. I need to get the brunch lists ready to shop. All I have boughten so far is a bunch of Peeps for decorating. Who eats those things? LOL.
I did do about an hour of paper sorting in the den, then went to Walmart to get a refill for my phone. I haven't set up the payments on line yet.

Lynda, wow, Buddy Rich, that's a blast from the past. I remember my father liking him and seeing him on the Johnny Carson show. I had a hard time with some of the dialog of The Hour as well. I didn't realize you could get closed captioning on Prime. I need to set that up. I like the whole 50's era part, but got somewhat confused by the story line. I wasn't quite sure what was going on in some parts. Lots of smoking going on though!

Valerie, OMG! I can't believe that the plumber was that incompetent! You SHOULD be furious. I would be scared to come to your house if I was him. Too funny on the dusty rose color. I had a dusty rose bathroom in our apartment, then when we bought this house, the bathroom was...you guessed it...dusty rose, including all the ceramic tile from floor to ceiling. We waited almost 30 years before we redid it. So I understand your feelings about it. LOL.

Lori, that was so great that you and your brother could do that for your Mom. Speaking of ab/core workouts, KCM just put out a compilation of her ab/core work from other DVD's 2- 30 minute ab/core workouts for about $12. There was some chat about it on MFP, I think Judy decided to get it.

Judy, you will have to let us know what this is like.....it won't be as hard as HSC...that's for sure. It will b doable. I never got past level 1 on that one. :(

Hi to Josie,

John is off today, not sure what we will be doing,

Take care,

Good Morning,

Yesterday was a rest day, just did my PT and stretching. DH is off today so we are going to run errands and do some shopping. I plan to do an upper body and core workout later today.

My physical therapist thinks I have an upper hamstring strain or tendonitis, not a piriformis issue like originally thought. She changed her focus to that area and thinks there is some scar tissue or adhesions there. She is doing ultrasound and some very deep tissue work. I might have to get an MRI if there isn't any improvement after PT, or I might have to continue PT for another month. Basically, I can do anything upper body/core. I can walk with no problems, use an elliptical, do some easy/light leg work, but anything like running, hard biking (like uphill or lots of tension/heavy gear) is a problem. I was so hoping to get this resolved quickly but I'm seeing that it might take quite a while and I'm going to have to be patient. This has been building up for a long time so it isn't going to get resolved overnight.

Deb-Yes, I will let you know about the KCM ab DVD. I'm still on level 1 of HC too. That one is really tough.

Valerie-Great bike ride!

Lori-That's nice that you got to take your mom to Ireland. I'm sure it was sad too.

Hi to Lynda & Josie!

Judy

Judy, yes, be patient. at least there are things you CAN do while this settles down. if it hurts, don't do it. find something else. they do u/s deep tissue massage, exercise, then icing on me. at home It's getting better but be assured I'm not getting the kayak out any time soon. I can do push up moves now without pain, against a wall or a bench so not quite full ones. I have done very little upper body "anything" in almost 4 months so will progress slowly. .

Lori what a wonderful present to your mother. I am part irish, not sure how much. my father's family was always secretive about who came from where, and their ancestry. maybe they were part of the contingent who got out of Ireland one step ahead of the sheriff..... my mother is supposedly german and Irish but, again, no one seemed to keep good track. I went to Ireland (also Scotland and England) on the only European vacation I ever took.

I am sure I saw a short thing on buddy rich the other day, one of those quick links that IE puts up every day. I knew he was a musician but did not know he was a drummer. we were not exposed to music growing up. my parents liked Lawrence Welk.

Both DH and I had plumbing nightmares last night. the reason plumbing is done first is because when it's completed it's buried behind concreteboard, plaster, tile. I am so hoping this is a simple add on part he forgot to install.

Yes dusty rose.... it was such a predominant color back in the late 80's thru early 90's. we 've gotten rid of most but not all. I guess even "builder beige" would have been a better choice.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did the Legs workout with the blasts (40.00). I tried to do the premix that included core 1, which would have been 53 min., but after the warmup and the first 24 squats and blast, it suddenly went to the abs segment. I would be curious to know if that happens on your dvds as well. If not, then I guess I should ask for a replacement.

Valerie, I would be apoplectic if that happened to me. Where did you find this plumber??? I think because the college has so many buildings to take care of, the workmen in this town are really good. Did you check Angie's list for reviews? I hope for your sake that this is an easy fix. My mom liked Lawrence Welk too, and Liberace. I couldn't stand either TV show.

Lori, that was wonderful what you did for your mom. I guess my younger son is growing up. He decided to skip St. Patty's Day in Boston this year and is down in Florida playing golf with his granddad. He used to tell us about how crazy it was in Boston with pub crawlers staggering around the whole day and night. I remember Chicago being equally crazy, but the worst was NYC because it always seemed to get a bit violent.

Judy, yes, I guess you will just have to be patient. It would be helpful to get an MRI to get the diagnosis right if it's not the piriformis.

Deb, I guess you have to be a sugar junkie to enjoy peeps. I will watch a couple more episodes of The Hour to see how the MI6 intrigue sorts itself out. I thought the reviews at Amazon were pretty positive and several talk about the narrative gradually building, characters growing over the arc of 6 episodes. It must have been decent because there is a second season.

Hi to Josie!

Hi Ladies,

I did a 30 minute workout with my DH on Monday, Tuesday I did body pump and was able to add a lot more weight thanks to Karina and yesterday I went spinning. Today I ran 3 miles this morning and I'm waiting for Kari now.

There is going to be a small service on Saturday for my MIL. She did not want anyone to make a big fuss.

Valerie, what a nightmare! My DH would get all the money back from the plumber :). When we bought our house, the master bedroom and bathroom was in dusty rose. Including the sinks and drapes. We had everything repainted.

Judy, I don't understand why they don't do an MRI first :(. It is so frustrating.

Lori, so nice that you had a chance to spend time with your mom in such a special way.

Deb, I will have the kids for Easter vacation and plan on taking them to San Diego to see their dad and siblings.

Garance, have you bought any new dresses for spring?

Have a great rest of your day!

Josie

all went well this morning. Plumber showed up at 10.... very apologetic. looked around and it turned out he didn't tighten something in the drain adequately. so we were correct in where the problem was. He tightened it... it was only finger tight and needed to be 'wrench" tight apparently. apologized profusely, which was good. DH kind of likes the guy and he was satisfied. I was not there as I was headed out the door at the time he arrived.
I think we caught it soon enough so there should not be water damage. Still, DH and I both had a crummy night's sleep last night because the imagination went wild with what might happen today. we pictured tearing all this finished stuff out ...

yes, they liked Liberace too. Ugh. no wonder I didn't like music as a kid. this plumber did some work for our neighbor and they were satisfied. so were we, until we turned on the shower. as long as its fixed, I'm OK with it. we do most minor plumbing things ourselves so have not needed anyone in a long time. I will ask around.

I don't like peeps or really any easter candy. it's all too sweet. I hate marshmallow and jellybeans, detest hard boiled eggs. I didn't like any of it as a kid either. not even tempting. somehow ???I make up for it elsewhere.

we still have some light rose colored carpeting. it is destined to go soon too, as soon as we decide what to replace it with. some hard surface I think, but I'm also wondering if all hard surfaces will it start to get loud, especially between upstairs and downstairs.

Josie I think that's best, to do something small and not showy, especially if that's what she would have wanted. the big production funerals are awful and expensive and IMO hard on everyone.

Good evening ladies!

At lunch we did Lower Body Bootcamp Barre and it was fun! Tonight was today's live class Metabolic Conditioning. Great class.

Deb...wow Easter will be here before you know it! My DS loves Peeps. I still him make up an Easter Basket every year and he loves it! :). We have no plans for Easter. Perhaps we will go to brunch somewhere.

Lynda..I have not done that premix. I will check my dvd and let you know. Oh St Patrick's Day in Boston!! Yes very crazy. I have never been but the stories I have heard! Nice that your son spent time with his grandfather.

Valerie....so glad things worked out. This has been the bath remodel from hell!

Judy...tendonitis can really hurt. When I had my bicep tears I also had tendonitis in my forearm. There were days that my forearm hurt more. Yes why are they not doing the MRI?

Josie...wow great workouts! Will be thinking of you on Saturday.

The Ireland vacation was really nice and yes having this time with my mom was beautiful. I mentioned to you about the dvd's my cousin gave me at christmas time with home videos and my parents wedding. Well I have really out did myself and have created tons of little clips capturing fun moments with my cousins, aunts, uncles, my grandparents and espcially my parents. I add music and fun titles and then post on facebook and youtube for my family to see. We are all having so much fun going down memory lane. I was recently voted Cousin of the Year!!! I am mentioning this because I just made clips for my brothers from our Ireland Trip that are amazing!

Have a great night all!

Good morning and Happy Friday!

Did not sleep well, I have to change my eating during the day, and no nap! Finally got my health care packet and was able to call in my choices yesterday. Glad that is on it's way to being done. It was getting a little worrisome.

Judy, you are doing great sticking to the PT exercises, and even getting a regular workout in. I think getting the MRI is a good thing. That is the only way you will know if it is anything structural, like a disk problem. Those HC workouts were so hard, that I dreaded them, and of course, didn't do them as regularly as I had planned.

Valerie, no water damage with it coming through the ceiling? That is pretty lucky! Here I was imagining that all that tile, doors etc would need to be taken out to find the problem...I bet that was what you were having nightmares over too.

Lynda, I will check out that Legs DVD, but that doesn't sound right. I think I am giving up on The Hour, for a bit...started to watch The Manor House. It is where people volunteer to go to an Edwardian mansion for 3 months and they are assuming the life of a family and servants there in 1906. It's really interesting and fascinating to see how the young people of today cannot take on the kind of work the servants did back then. Check it out, it's free on Prime. Lots of history about the time...kind of like seeing the making of Downton, only this is with real people, not actors.

Josie, will be thinking of you and your DH tomorrow. Your Easter plans sound great.

Lori, oh those video clips must be so great for your family! You definitely are Cousin of The Year! My cousin had her parent's home movies converted to DVD and it is a blast just watching and trying to identify all the people.

Going to get a workout in, maybe just a total body KCM....I need to switch my rotation a bit, I am getting bored with it now.

Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Deb, I didn't phrase that quite right... the water came thru a recessed "can" type light fixture in the kitchen, right below the upstairs shower. we have a kitchen sink there, and plumbing tends to be connected by the most direct route. water flowed down the outside of the drain and followed the pipe to connect with the sink drain. the light fixture is above the sink. If UPS had not rung the doorbell, and if I hadn't gone into the kitchen immediately after, it might have been worse....much more water. most of the shower water went down the drain as it should have. So it all ended well. I'm guessing only a couple cups of water because of very fortunate timing.... everything seemed dry around the light fixture when we reinstalled it yesterday. this plumbing place is highly thought of locally so we will be happy it all resolved OK. No more plumbing projects planned.

went to therapy yesterday after getting all weekly shopping done. that was it for exercise. I think next week will be my last week of formal therapy. Not even sure I will go both days I scheduled. I can do push up type moves, pull downs, etc but I can do that at home and ice afterward. will be cautious on weight amounts but it seems to be settling down slowly but surely.
The manor house sounds interesting... I'll see if it's on hulu plus.

we have no plans for this weekend.. Saturday sounds wet, sunday drier but we are typical spring, cool and pretty damp.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Dancin' Abs (58:00).

That's great news on the plumbing, Valerie. Always nice when something is easily fixed.

Lori, that sounds like a lot of work, but also a great way to preserve family memories for everyone. Also nice that you are so appreciated for all you do.

Deb, that sounds like a reality show to me and probably much better than the American ones. I have watched two more episodes of "The Hour," and I am hooked, so maybe after I finish watching the first season, I will try it. That's very reassuring to have your health plan worked out.

Josie, I bought a dress from Gudrun Sjoden and another from Boden--both online when they had a sale. Now, if the weather ever improves I might get to wear a spring frock instead of all these layers. Your workouts sound fantastic. Maybe we all need a personal trainer to get that kind of improvement.

We are going out to Mezze's on Sunday night. I probably won't get the comfort meal, but I know I will find something else on the menu to enjoy.

Hi to Judy!

I just received a 20% off code, plus free shipping and returns, to share with friends and family from Bodenusa.com. So here it is if any of you want to check them out: 5r7k. I bought the Julietta dress in size 8. Fits beautifully and not too low cut.

Good morning & Happy Weekend!

Yesterday I did KCM Slim Sculpting (this is her kettlebell workout). No workout today, agility class at 11:00 and a play this afternoon ( "Arrivals and Departures").

Valerie, I bet you are so done with this project and I am not surprised that you have no plumbing projects planned for a while. Glad your shoulder is feeling better.

Lynda, I think it is the equivalent of a reality show, but in England, it is WAY different than the crap we have on here. I like it for the history of the time, the "rules" they had to follow etc....and to see how the young people of today cope with what they would have had to do back then for a job. The first scullery maid only lasted 2 days! She was crying, and whining the whole time. I will try another episode of The Hour, if I can get the closed captioning on.

Hi to Josie, Judy & Lori,

Have a great weekend!

Lynda,

forgot to mention, my Legs DVD did something similar on that premix...she did the 24 squats, then the next exercise z9 forgot now what that is), then it went right to the bonus ab section!

I wonder if anyone had mentioned this? I haven't been checkong that forum board that frequently. Are you going to tell Customer Service?

Lori, can you check yours? it happens right away...if it is going to happen..
