Good morning,

Today I did HIIT Circuit Lower Body- no blasts premix.

We had a nice time out yesterday, we went to our local coffee house for a light dinner, and stayed for the live music, which was 3 people with fiddles, violins, mandolins...they played a lot of Irish tunes in honor of St Patrick's day. Good time.

Lori, good the heater situation worked out easily. Nice that we were not in that below zero weather when it happened. Although, you have other heat sources so it would have been ok.

Valerie, Yay for the sinks being done! One more step and you should be done, and proud of the job! :). Pics would be nice, but I understand if you can't get them here easily.

May be taking the dogs to the club to let them run/chase tennis balls. They are so pent up with this horrible winter, they need to get some of the energy out. That is probably why they have started to snap at each other...Just had enough of being pent up inside.

Hi to Josie, Judy, and Lynda,

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Deb, I hope I can figure out pics but it may not happen. I'll try but have not had luck with pics on this computer.

we are having a rainy weekend...thought we were going to mt bike today but forecast changed to much wetter, so will be spinning later.

The sinks look nice. Undermount is great! we ordered a towel rack and a couple towel hooks. Doing this yourself lets you order things as you decide you need them rather than having to order everything beforehand thru a contractor. Need to get towels, small rug for front of shower.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did BarreAmped Cardio Burn (67:00).

Deb, that sounds like a lovely evening. DH loves fiddle music and his younger brother is in a bluegrass band, plays the banjo.

Lori, I bet your Mexican food was great. I stay away from Margaritas after I read how many calories they have (600-800), but with all of your exercise, I'm sure you will be fine. Is everything beginning to melt where you are? Now it's turning into a colossal mud season.

Josie, 10 years is a long time to suffer from such a debilitating disease. My friend had early onset Alzheimer's and he went 'fast'--3 years. Terrible and so sad.

Valerie, I bet you are so pleased to see your project winding down at last.

Off to a dinner/fundraiser tonight. Should be good.

Good evening ladies!

Today was Cathe Live legs with stability ball. Another great workout. Was very similar in style with STS Meso 2 legs. Then ending with the stability ball really worked the hamstrings and outer thighs. Later in the afternoon the weather looked nice so Chester and I went for a walk. 20 minutes into it the weather changed from one extreme to another. Got really cold, windy and snow showers! We could not get home fast enough. Poor Chester looked miserable.

Valerie....yeah!!! You are almost done. I bet you can't wait to be done!

Deb...that sounds like a fun night. How is your finger? Better? I see you did a weight workout so hoping yes.

Lynda...dinner was great. The entire meal was loaded with calories and I felt terrible when I woke this morning. All bloated. Hate this feeling. Glad it does not last long. I am one of those people that really watches what goes in my mouth for a few days after a meal like that. Snow is melting but has a long way to go. There is still some on the roof and we still can not see out the back patio. It has gone down substantially though. The walkway is all muddy :(

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Good morning,

Everything is melting here, lots of dirty snow piles and wet streets, but we actually saw grass yesterday! :). Workout will be a little later, once John leaves for work, if he goes to work. He came down with some type of stomach flu, or something yesterday, and was sick all day.

Valerie, what were the colors again for the bathroom? If you can get the pic on the desktop of your computer, you should be able to post here. It's the size that is a challenge here...mine are always waay to big.

Lynda, how was the dinner/fund raiser? Yes, mud here too, we gave the dogs baths after taking them to the club yesterday to run them. The parking lot there is not really paved, it's all mud. ugh. The inside of the car is a mess too. They had fun though.

Lori, poor Chester, and poor you! The weather is so unpredictable, but at least it is double digits! Can you see your grill yet? LOL. My finger is still stiff and cannot bend all the way, but enough to hold a weight. It must be a bad bruise on the bone.

Hi to Josie & Judy,

Going to the outlets today with my cousin, we both have gift cards to use.

Take care,

Good Morning,

The snow has really melted a lot here too. It was in the 50's this weekend and supposed to get into the 60's this week. It felt really good to get outside. We should be getting the bikes out soon too. We went to Vitamin Shoppe yesterday and I saw Bonk Breaker bars there too. They had a huge selection of bars, many I've never seen before.

PT is going well, but I'm still not back to 100% as far as how certain moves feel. I can't really do squats or lunges with much weight. Walking is fine, I haven't tried running yet. Biking is ok, but if I increase the resistance very much it starts bothering me. My physical therapist gave me another stretch to do, and I'm spending at least 30 minutes a day stretching at home now. I'm also using ice/heat. Saturday I used the elliptical at the gym and that felt good.

Valerie-it's great that you got the sinks done!

Lori-Cathe live legs looks like a great workout. I can't wait to try it. Might do it with no weight just for fun.

Deb-I hope John feels better :( There has been a stomach flu going around here for the last couple of weeks. We've been lucky not to get it yet.

Hi to Lynda & Josie,

Judy

Hi Ladies,

Thank you all for your condolences. My DH has just been very quiet and I have not seen him cry. My DD asked me how he was doing because she did not see him getting emotional when she was here on Saturday. I have been trying to keep him busy by redecorating our DD room. We bought a new bed, TV and TV stand and he moved some of his plants into the room. Tomorrow he is going to see his DB to finalize the mortuary arrangements. I know that is going to be hard.

Deb, it looks like you are enjoying being retired :).

Valerie, glad that your project is almost over. The weather over the weekend was so hot. On Saturday I ran at 7:00AM and it was already in the high 60's.

Lori, I can't even imagine the amount of mud that you will have after the snow melts :(.

Judy, hope that your leg gets better.

Josie

Did the whole Pedal power spin yesterday, core 1, and my therapy. I get sore but it goes away by the next day so I must be finally getting better. therapy tonight . we are going to mt bike now. it rained a lot this weekend so we will have to adjust our ride off the trails where the mud will be serious.
Deb, isn't it funny how something small like a finger injury can totally upend your plans? I can't believe how long it's been since In did a workout holding weights. I'm just afraid of re-injuring by doing some minor move. more later.

ETA back from the ride. it was pretty nice but muddy. we need to hose everything off when we get back. so this is out of order as I already read Lynda's post that follows this one. It's very pleasant to see our aerobic capacity increasing by doing this regularly.
I read about the durst guy in the paper this morning. what a strange duck. your post had some better background than the newspaper. Often we get HBO things thru Netflix after they go to disk so I'll stick this on the queue.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did both of the low impact hiit workouts (50:08).

The meal was great. Baked trout with couscous and roasted vegetables. Spinach salad and a slice of pie with maple flavor--this is maple syrup season. I gave half of everything but the salad to DH and skipped the bread. Very good white wine from a local vintner.

Lori--the same thing here with the weather. Sunny one minute, than the wind picks up, flurries, driving sleet. Ugh! Snirt everywhere. Max's belly is filthy every time he comes in with all of those long feathers. Sounds like we are in for another Arctic blast later this week.

Judy, it must be frustrating for you to work so hard on your stretching and PT and not feel up to your former intensity. It's great that you will have some warmer weather for outside walking, though.

I guess no one here has HBO, but there has been a fascinating documentary called JINX about a wealthy NYC real estate guy--Robert Durst. The last episode was last night, and he walked out of the interview into the bathroom with his mic still on and basically confessed to three murders while talking to himself. A very strange dude. Apparently the documentary was shot a couple years ago, but only recently, while editing these extended interviews with him, they discovered the extended audio from the bathroom after the final interview was over. The police were notified and the hunt was on for him. Even more weird, they found him yesterday in New Orleans and he's being extradited to California for the last murder. The other big HBO event is GOT starting soon. EW has a big feature on the new season with no less than 4 covers. One of the is of Arya looking very feminine.

I went to see Whiplash finally on Saturday. I can understand why Simmons won his Oscar, but I found the film very worrisome. I just don't see how being a sadistic teacher/taskmaster will elicit the inner genius in a student. If that's what music school is like, it would scare me to death.

Good evening ladies!

Rest day today. I slept well for a sunday but needed to rest the legs today. Wow really feeling yesterday's workout. I went heavier than Cathe in most moves. She only has up to 15lb dumbbells in her gym and she always states go heavier or lighter so I did. I did some really great stretches afterwards but legs are still tired. Could be all the barre I have been doing too.

Judy...it was a really good workout. If you like STS Meso 2 legs you will like this. Definetly do not do this one anytime soon until you are completely healed. Or perhaps use really light weights. I love Cathe live. I still really do not use the on demand as often but haven't cancelled yet either. I am looking forward to the on line Workout Blender. Once this is up and running I can see myself using the demand more.

Deb...glad the finger is a little better. We can start to see our grills but no way can we get to them. It's not like they are far from the door. Only about 10 to 15 feet away. But the snow is easily still 3 feet high in the yard and some areas more. We will be looking at this crap thru April I bet.

Josie....keeping him busy is a good thing. Never easy planning a funeral. This will be difficult. The mud in the front walkway is ridiuclous. When the plow guy came he had a machine that did our walkway to the house. The only problem is he missed the walkway and created his own over the lawn. When all the snow came there was really nothing we could do and now we are paying for it. It is a mess. When I walk in the house I now walk with my legs split wide to avoid the mud and kind of hobble over the mud for about 20 feet because the snow is still deep on each side. Very comical.

Lynda...thanks of the review of Wiplash. I was on the fence about going but now I'll pass. We saw Boyhood recently and I liked seeing the changes over the years of the key players but not sure if I can say wow what a great movie. It told his story growing up but that is it. Not sure how Patricia Arquette won best supporting actress. She was good but don't feel it was oscar material. Just my thoughts here. I saw Durst recently in the news and did not know why. That explains it!

Valerie...great job on Pedal Power then core after then therapy! After a spin workout I am usually to wiped to do anything else. Do you still do yoga? I know your studio moved. Wasn't sure if you kept up with it at home at all.

Have a great night all!

Tee hee.... Lori..I did the core workout and shoulder therapy FIRST, then did the spin. otherwise I thought I'd feel like I'd done enough and would skip. I haven't been to yoga since November. I can't comfortably do a lot of moves... need a functioning shoulder, a lot of moves in the class I went to. I'm hoping I can resume soon. I had therapy today and they added a lot of material today, wall push ups, bench push ups, the arm wheel, pull downs much harder stuff than I'd been doing before. It didn't hurt and I'm feeling like I'm finally healing.

I would like to see Whiplash, not in a theater. it's on our Netflix queue. it sounded like a "see once, maybe" kind of movie to me. I took Boyhood on and off and can't decide. it sounds boring.

Has anyone watched "Boardwalk", the series? We are just finishing up in the next day or so and I am wondering how much of it is factual and how much is Hollywood? I know it's based on some real people and events but not sure how much is fiction.

Judy, be patient. I never had an obvious injury. I didn't fall or yank something out of place, my shoulder just got sore after pushups, and has taken it's own sweet time to improve. if it hurts, it is usually not good to ignore discomfort and crank through it. rest that body part or do a totally different exercise until it feels normal again. it will be 4 months for me, and I don't like it but sometimes patience and low level moves are what you need. or PT and cortisone! I'm also taking full dose NSAIDS and have been for quite a while. look forward to getting off the meds and unless something happens I don't think I'll need another cortisone shot.
I'm lucky I was able to switch over to riding and spinning. would never have done that if I hadn't been forced to. we rode up the whole 1300 feet elevation with 2 brief stops, way better than a few months ago.

Good morning,

Great day yesterday, lunch and then outlet shopping. I am not a shopper, I mostly follow my cousin around and she tries on clothes. She loves shopping. I only buy things that "jump out at me" as John always says. John ended up closing the office at noon and coming home. He was as pale as a ghost. He is better today. It must have been a 24 hour thing.

Judy, isn't it great to be able to go outside and have it be in the 50's? We didn't get that high yesterday, but definitely in the 40's. Glad your PT is working, and the person seems to be knowledgeable.

Josie, thinking about what you said about your DH, he is probably trying to get through the arrangments etc, and will show more emotion when all is done. yes, retirement is very enjoyable. I just wish I could get the health care packet, so I can finalize that piece of it. I am still waiting for it, and getting anxious.

Valerie, good job on the bike workout....and the ride outside! Have not heard of "Boardwalk"..was it an HBO or other TV series? how many seasons?

Lynda, your dinner sounds great, and you have great willpower to be able to give half away. That is part of my eating problem, if it's on the plate, I eat it! It must be my mother 's voice telling me that whole thing about "starving children in ("insert country of choice here")... lot about that Durst guy on Yahoo news on line. Very strange.

Lori, LOL imagining you straddling the mud on your walk. With all the barre and leg work you do, that should be an easy one! :). How long are the Cathe Live workouts?

Project for today is to get the papers cleared out of the den, either filed or shredded...woo hoo! :)

Take care,

Went back to Netflix and looked at "Boardwalk" and it says:
"Inspired by real events, HBO's robust drama chronicles the advent of Atlantic City and the Prohibition-era kingpins who made it a haven for drinking and gambling, including corrupt politician Nucky Thompson and mobsters Arnold Rothstein and Al Capone."

so I answered my own question. Plenty of other familiar names from history came up. it's certainly not a documentary but wonder how much is based on history and how much is created. some parts were very hard to follow. I never care about mobsters and their business dealings. when it focused more on the people and relationships it was quite good. part of the problem was dark haired white men in dark suits and hats all look the same! very easy to mix up or just not remember who someone was. it ran 5 seasons with some parts quite good and others confusing. a lot of jumping back and forth in time and place. and as usual, we saw the first season several years ago. many parts were complex and neither of us remembered them well. some very violent parts.

Deb, I'm not a shopper. I order most things online or Costco. I've always been hard to fit and I hate the process of going in and trying on things. I actually do better online than in person. things are marked more clearly, and being short, more petites are available online than in stores. Plus, I'm way less picky than I used to be. developed into a Costco/REI/ LLBean hybrid!

I know my problem is portion control but I still probably wouldn't give away half my plate. at home I serve myself 1/2. I give DH dessert and I get one small bite rather than a serving.

shoulder got a little achy from yesterday but this morning it feels quite good. I did WAY more yesterday than I've done so I feel pretty good about it.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did ba, sh, bis (52:08).

Deb, it sounds like you are enjoying yourself not working. I like outlet shopping with my sons up in Manchester. After awhile everything starts to look the same to me, but the Clarks and Eileen Fisher outlets often have some great things at a decent price for me. Manchester also has a terrific bookstore I could spend hours browsing in. Hope you don't get whatever John had.

Valerie, I think Godfather 2 has some mob history as well. I didn't watch Boardwalk Empire but Rothstein apparently became a drug kingpin in the east. He is supposed to be the Lee Strasberg character in Godfather 2 who tries to kill Michael Corleone. Love the Coppola films 1 and 2, but not 3. You should definitely put JINX in your queue. It was fascinating. As I have probably already said too many times, Boyhood was too long and utterly banal, sometimes laughably so when it was trying to 'say' something.

I don't know, Lori--if you like jazz and want to see some spectacular drumming, I would still recommend Whiplash. In some ways, I think the kid should have been nominated, because he actually learned how to play the drums for the film, and he was INCREDIBLE.

Josie, I hope everything is going well for your DH.

Hi to Judy!

I looked on Netflix for Jinx, but it's not in their index yet. will make a note to add it as it will likely show up soon unless the series gets held up due to this guy's prosecution... if he's confessing on screen, how can you get an impartial jury?

some familiar names came up in Boardwalk including elliot ness, j edgar hoover, Joe kennedy, meyer lansky, Rothstein, bugsey siegal, al capone plus the Thompson brothers, enoch and eli. I can't think of any others now ....but several more well known names. whole lot of shooting went on.... it was good but like most series, it's probably way better if you watch the whole series over a few days or weeks.

we finished the shower this morning. not easily. we havd the door frame plumb but the walls apparently are not so we had to make it a bit tweaked so the doors hand properly. wow. sealed up the edges, finished odds and ends and will take a little time off now. we have towel racks coming and I need to buy new towels and a small rug. maybe will use it tomorrow.

I haven't seen Godfather in so long I don't remember what "actual" names were involved.

Good evening ladies!

Today was our Saint Patrick's Day feast at the office so no workout at lunch. The company buys the cornbeef and sides and employees bring in desserts. Tons of food. Tonight was Cathe Live Bootcamp with Step and then I finished it up with her Live Cardio Core standing abs section. Did the abs twice which ended up being about 13 minutes. Now standing abs I enjoying doing!

Deb...the walkway is a mess and as the snow melts my legs are more and more straddled!!!! We are going to have to put some planks down until we can see/use the actual walk way. The lawn must be ruined at this point. I love outlet shopping! Hoping you do not get sick!!!!

Valerie!!!!!! Yeah you are just about done!!!! When did you actually start this project? Seems like so long ago. Your shoulder sounds like it is really mending. Good to hear.

Lynda...I think I now remember your review on Boyhood. I will rent Wiplash this coming weekend if we can. My DH really wants to see it. We feel the same way about the Godfather Movies. Love 1&2 but 3 not so much. I do enjoy Jazz so looking forward to it. Wow he learned the drums for the movie. Nice to know this going into it.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Good morning,

I spent about 3 hours in the den yesterday, and still have more to do...what a mess...after that it's the guest bedroom. The plan is to do all the inside stuff before the weather gets too nice. Then it's the yard work. Boy I'm glad I retired! LOL

Valerie, I did look at that series on Prime...I will put in in my Watch List for future. Seems like your shoulder is definitely on the mend.

Lynda, they just added 50 stores to our Outlet, and Clark's was one of them. They have every story now, (except the large department stores like Macy's) so that you don't have to go anywhere else to shop. They even added a Toys R Us, which I never have seen in an Outlet before.

Valerie, YAY for the Shower Being Finished! I bet you are so ready for this to be completed. Now me, I would have bought the towels first...LOL.

Lori, that standing abs/core sounds great. I wish Cathe would put out a Bonus Ab section on a DVD that is all standing ab/core work. It's my favorite as well. Like the bonus Abs one from the RWHIIT series, the one where she uses the weight.

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

Not much going on here....lots of snow melting, finally! We can actually see parts of our lawn.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:16).

Lori, there was an article some time ago about Whiplash and the actor playing the young drummer talked about how hard he practiced. He listened a lot to Buddy Rich and his hands would both callus and bleed from playing. He's really good. If you like standing core, you would probably like a lot of Dancin' Abs, which is also good fun. I made corned beef and cabbage yesterday with a creamy mustard/horseradish gravy and boiled potatoes. Of course it's DH's brisket. I don't think I have any Irish in me, but it still tastes good.

Deb, I watched the first episode of The Hour and it was pretty good. I had to put on the closed captioning because of the British accents and the quickness of some of the dialogue. It looks like there's mystery/intrigue in addition to it being about the launching of an hourly serious news program, or as the Brits would have it, programme.

I just started reading a massive novel, A Little Life, and am really enjoying it a lot. It had some stellar reviews, so I thought I would try it.

Congrats, Valerie, on completing your project. It has been awhile I know with a lot of snags along the way.

Hi to Josie and Judy!

too funny Deb... no,no towels come last! they will be a neutral color anyway. cream, gray, tan something like that. I am SOOO done with dusty rose. I loved it at first but it's been years and years since anything came in that color and even though I still like it, it is hard to blend in with home furnishings.
Boardwalk was a good series but it does a LOT of time jumping and has a lot of characters. watching it in a shorter time will help with both. having a year between seasons made if way more difficult to follow. near the ending of Boardwalk ... a scene very reminiscent of one of the early scenes in Godfather, where marlon brando is talking to all the heads of the families about how they will work together etc. Lucky Luciano is the character doing it. I keep thinking Bugsy Siegel is the guy who went on to start & develop las vegas in the desert... warren beatty & Annette Bening but can't remember ...was it called 'Bugsey" ? off to answer my own questions again. .

Lori I think we started in Dec. not constant work but with all the delays, misfires, and missing parts it has dragged on and on. a lot of on site modification too. who would guess ahead of time that if the frame of the shower is "plumb" it will screw up the way the doors hang?

Going to do a road ride today but waiting until afternoon when the temp comes up and the fog clears out.
